Not only did Hawley Lane Opticians screw my husband over many years ago when he finally needed glasses and the optician forgot to fill out one part of a form for the DMV (this caused him a lot of problems)...but they have been rude every time we have contacted them since. When we needed the lenses replaced a few years later, it turned into a whole dramatic ordeal and took weeks when it should have been a quick fix. I recently called them again to ask for my husband's PD because we found glasses online that he liked and we are updating his prescription. They refused to give it out because we aren't buying from them this time. Never use this place. They are a waste of space. read more

Just an update. RUN ‍ RUN away do not use this place. The owner is rude and quickly denied what I needed even before they looked at my file. Literally one year my super expensive glasses broke. Which is actually less than one year because when I received them the prescription was off and I had to have them fix it. So if I am going based off of that it was less than one year. I called to get prescription and they will not provide me with all the details needed to order a new pair online. They refused to assist even with all the money I spent. Run. They push you to spend on unnecessary items. I had to get the lens correct and the $200+ I spent is out the door. Glasses totaled $558 the $200 were to get bifocals I did not need ask them to correct which they are doing but they will not credit the 200 on unnecessary bifocals nit even a store credit. Manager Edward did not care. There site states they take quality in there work but they do not. All they care about is the money you shell out. The eye doctor is good but the that owner of this establishment is not at all professional. I will continue my complaint to BBB and every other social media possible. Economy is hard and people like this makes it harder. read more

Terribly organized and poor customer service. They can barely keep track of their info and can never answer a simple question because they still use paper appointment tracking and a rolodex. Also, they say they price match their competitors and they quoted me $250 for my contacts so I ordered them. When I showed up to pick them up, they tried to charge me $400 and would not honor the original price. Update: I went to buy contacts at a different store where the prices were competitive and accurate and I couldn't because Hawley Lane Opticians couldn't even manage to write my prescription properly and they gave me an attitude for asking for a new prescription. read more

Well it's official I wear glasses now. Jennifer was really helpful in helping me pick the frames. She literally watched me try on about 20 pairs and helped me narrow it down to 5. She gave useful opinions and helped me to accept this new change. The eye testing machine was a bit weird but you could tell it was a very new and up to date machine. I was able to pick up my glasses in less than a week. Great customer service. I just wish they gave me a hard case instead of a soft pouch, especially because I'm new at this and might break them. read more

Terrible experience, waste of money. Beware, look elsewhere! From the wasted of time it took these folks to even find my insurance plan when I first visited, to the unnecessary services performed and billed for, to the incorrect prescription written, this place is a black hole of wasted time and money. I went here for an eye exam that would have been covered under my insurance (I asked for the exam my insurance covers annually) and they went ahead with an extended medical exam that cost me an extra $70 out of my pocket (on top of the $69 exam). I did not ask for that service, but had to pay anyways. Next, I ordered glasses online with my given prescription, and they came in and were blurry. I went back to Hawley Lane to have them check the glasses, and they told me it was the glasses manufacturer's fault, that they needed to be "centered". So, I went back to the manufacturer, who told me the prescription was so low that there doesn't need to be "centering". Hawley Lane was visibly irritated that I used another company to buy glasses from besides them and wouldn't even give me the measurement so that they could be fixed, and told me I was out of luck. Ultimately, I went to another eye doctor in the area for a second opinion and found out the prescription that Hawley wrote was incorrect and would not serve my needs. I have to write this update because when a business does the right thing, I feel compelled to let everyone know. After I had written my review, and sent a similar letter directly to the email address on the Hawley Lane Opticians' site, I received a very, very nice letter of apology from the Manager of Hawley Lane Opticians. I must say, I am impressed. This gentleman may have refreshed my faith in humanity! He wrote an incredible letter of apology and concern for the integrity of his business. As a former business woman with several businesses of my own, I feel that customer service remains the number one responsibility of a good company. And good customer service is what keeps a business actually in-business. What this manager has accomplished is multi-fold. He has restored my faith in his business, and he has put a stopper on the wrath that I would have continued to spread on this business. I am sincerely grateful for the concern regarding the reputation of this business. In the manager's letter of apology he had also informed me that he is reiterating the need for good customer service to his staff. This is so important to me. Based on the responsiveness, and consideration that this manager has shown me, I am willing to give his business another chance. And I want to share this enlightenment with the rest of the Yelp world. read more

After a year of not having contact lenses due to my move to Connecticut, I was ecstatic to find a near by eye doctor. Upon arrival I was eager to meet the doctor, get my eye exam, & receive my contacts. After filling out paperwork & waiting for the doctor to be available, I was relieved when it was finally my turn. After the exam was over I was given 2 brands of contacts to test since it's been a while. Dr. Capasso wanted me to see which were more comfortable. Dr. Capasso also insisted that I purchase glasses along with my contacts. However I usually get contacts in lieu of glasses, due to my nursing profession. He was basically trying to not let me leave until I chose a pair of glasses. I called my mom so she could speak to him since she's the Insurance subscriber, he then became very agitated because of this. He began trying to reason why I NEEDED to get glasses. After making it clear that neither me nor my mother were interested In purchasing glasses, he started yelling at us, explaining why I needed glasses. Yelling loud enough for the entire office to turn and look toward the room. Then he hung up my phone and basically tossed it at me. Humiliated & intimidated, I begin backing away from his office where he then slams the door. Everyone in the office was shocked at the non-existent professionalism we all just witnessed. After that my mother called the office manager (Jim) who is quite honestly the only reason I will be coming back here. He was genuinely concerned by how shaken up we were. Especially since this is my first time working with this organization. An unfortunate occurrence, I just hope no one will have to deal with something like that in a professional setting; such as a doctors office. read more

I was hesitant to write a review but after much thought felt it necessary. I visited Hawley Lane Opticians and was promptly greeted by a woman by the name of Kim, she was pleasant and very helpful. However while there I was appalled at what I was hearing from what I believe was the office, I heard a man loudly cursing and what seemed to be slamming or throwing things, this continued for quite some time while Kim was working with me, though she tried to deflect the disruption by continuing to work with me it was obvious that she was also distracted by the cursing and noise. I politely made an excuse to leave. I would give 5 stars to Kim for her professionalism and knowledge as well as to the other employees that are subject to that other employees lack of proper conduct. I rushed home from work to get to the store and as I was walking towards the store the women saw be looked right at me, ran to the door, and began to slide the door closed! I get the fact that they were about to close but to just do that and not even acknowledge me was rude and tells he that this place does not care about their customers and the service that they provide. read more

Let start by saying ignore the people from previous years. I have been a patient since I was a kid and my parents and husband use Hawley Lane Opticians too. They do a great job! I never had to wait long. I get right in with my appointment. Dr Capasso is so personable and extremely professional. I will NEVER go anywhere else! They have extended hours and call immediately when your glasses or contacts come in. They take insurance coverage and do all the work for you! They have a variety of lenses and contact options, spend time with every customer, but allow people to look while juggling other customers. The office is clean, bright, and inviting! He and his staff treat you like family and as another business owner that speaks louder to me. I always feel confident in their work and the final product! They are better than your boring eye place that rips you off and doesn't tell you they aren't in network for your insurance. That happened to me once while away at school but NEVER again! I will only come to Hawley Lane Opticians and Dr Capasso!! Also, I recently suffered a TBI and Dr. Capasso referred me to another ophthalmologist for eye exercises and therapy. I received a light bifocal til my eyes settle. I have 20/20 vision, but I've never been pushed to get glasses nor contacts. When I have needed them for college after massive reading and now with my TBI it's need. Every time I have received anything it's been completely warranted. They are truly a class act and we love them! (The office has since been updated, and I'll get better pictures for you when I get this years prescription.) read more

Literally the worst place ever. Avoid this place!!! Not only did I have to get two eye exams and neither Dr agreed on my prescription, I got a stye on my eye (i can only assume from their equipment as I have never had one before). The second Dr's prescription wasn't correct either. I told him during the exam that it didn't seem right, and he encouraged me to try it out for a few days with a pair of contacts. I was getting massive headaches, and he finally consented to give me my old prescription. Then I tried to order glasses with them (not sure what I was thinking). After the prescription came back the second time incorrectly, I demanded my money back. What the heck? I have never experienced such incompetence from an Optician! While I was there returning my glasses the first time, I was talking to another customer who was also returning his incorrectly made glasses. I initially chose this place to support a local business instead of a chain business....what a mistake!! I am now taking my prescription for glasses elsewhere (if they send it to me correctly). read more

Horrible eye doctors. I ordered 2 pairs of distance glasses and 2 pairs of reading glasses. I had to have 2 eye exams with one doctor telling me that the other doctor "got it wrong". Every time I came back to try the glasses they were off. They kept telling me just wear them and you'll get used to them. Well the other night I wore them for 2 hours in the dark and my eyes were bloodshot and I had a splitting headache. They also screwed up the prescription by writing it down wrong. Now they say too bad - I'm stuck with 4 pairs of glasses that aren't correct. I'm filing a complaint with the licensing board and everyone will know about Hawley Lane Opticians. read more
