    Beef udon

An amazing place to go and support! I called Hayashi on Saturday around 8:30pm and asked if they can accommodate 10 people. I told them we'll get there around 9 and that would give us less than an hour to eat. My friends and I just finished a Six Flag trip and needed some food in our body. We decided to go to Hayashi because of how close it was and the late hours. When we walked in, we were instantly greeted and led to our seat. They had menus for us to look through and gave the entire table water to drink. We asked if we could split checks and they said it was possible. So my group split up into 4 different checks. We got an assortment of sushi, noodles, and rolls. Personally, I ordered three regular rolls and the beef udon. I told my server that I was allergic to shellfish and she informed me that one of my rolls included crab essence. I decided to order the roll anyways and I took it to go for my mom to eat. But for the other rolls, as someone who use to work in a sushi restaurant, they were fresh! They were delicious! I paired my sushi with the beef udon and I feel like the beef udon alone would have been perfect for me! The serving size and the content made me full! The beef udon had a savory taste and I just couldn't stop slurping the noddles. The server also informed me that the udon has a fish base which I appreciate for the transparency! I truly felt welcomed at Hayashi because they were full of knowledge. At the end of the dinner, we got to celebrate our friend's birthday with mochi ice cream! We appreciate all the kind service we received that night! It was something we kept mentioning in the group chat! I hope to come back with either the same group or other people!!

Our very first time eating at this Sushi restaurant in Gurnee, IL! Arrived at 1300 Hours on Thursday, 8/22/24, and got seated promptly for a Party of 4 - 3 Adults, 1 Baby. We received the menu to look at what food to order. But the server was busy with other tables so we didn't get to put in our order until 1:15 PM. Wrote everything down and checked off the rolls we wanted on the form we received at the table and gave it to him once he came by to our table... The food items we ordered were: 2 California Rolls, 1 Chicken Teriyaki, 1 Calamari, 1 Karaage, 1 Tamago, 1 Sunny Maki, 1 Tempura Crunch Roll, 1 Dragon Roll, 1 Teriyaki Chicken Roll; Drinks: 2 Sprites and 1 Diet Coke. After a few minutes, we got our drinks. Then got the Calamari as the appetizer and afterwards, received the Karaage and Sushi Rolls. Food tasted very good! Liked the Sushi, they were all delicious and flavorful!! Portions were abundant as well. Service could have been better for refills and whatnot.... But overall, we enjoyed eating here. Most definitely better than other Sushi joints we've tried before. We'll be back to try some other menu items next time we're around the area again.

Great sushi. Service was great and I wish I had his name because he was awesome. The restaurant is small but I liked that. We got a ton of food and some how they got it out super fast. When we got home all we talked about was how good this was.

LOVE this place! My dad comes here all the time. We are in town visiting and came in after our flight. I asked them to make a roll for me that wasn't on the menu and they were able to do it for me. My dad always orders yellowtail sashimi -- this place has excellent fish! It's fresh and absolutely delicious. The service is excellent too. We also ordered these scallop rolls that were delicious! My dad got two orders of fried soft crab and my boyfriend really loved it. The teriyaki chicken was ordered for my boyfriend and my daughter and they both enjoyed it. Hot sake was great for the cold night we came in. It's a very casual spot but you will definitely be taken cared of!

Food was not as good as usually. Didn't taste like yellow tail. Call and talk with girl. The ticket didn't say what it was supposed to say and all she said was the shop said it should be. I really don't know what that means should be or was question mark when she looked up my order. It did not say substitute yellowtail. Nor did it say it on the receipt. she could care less than go on her over 25 years. Probably. Not gonna come back as often.Service and quality of food seem to have dropped

Unhappy with yellow tail. Called to ask if it was correct. She could only say; chef says it should be...could care less. I'll go somewhere else. Been going here since it opened. Goodbye!!!

Racist treatment and price gouging at Ichiban Steakhouse, Gurnee, IL…read more I came to Ichiban Steakhouse in Gurnee, IL with my three children after our original restaurant choice was closed and it was raining. What should have been a nice night out with my kids turned into one of the most disrespectful experiences I've had at a restaurant. A woman who I later realized was a co-owner was working the front as if she were just a hostess, and never disclosed that she owned the business. Throughout the visit, she made a string of comments and actions that made clear this wasn't about hospitality: She commented that my son was "cute for a black child." While I was in the restroom, she approached my 17-year-old daughter and asked her why I was "so mad." While I was trying to clarify my kids' order with her, she cut in to tell me she'd "been doing this job for years," rather than actually listening to what we needed. She emphasized extremely long wait times for sushi in a way that felt designed to discourage us from staying. Her body language and tone throughout made it clear she didn't want us there. I watched her demeanor change completely, becoming all smiles with white patrons who came in during our visit. A Hispanic family seated near us witnessed the entire interaction, and their reactions made clear they understood exactly what was happening. We were charged $43 for a single glass of apple juice, 2 bottles of water, 4 side salads, and clear soup, all of which came with meals and service that was subpar at best. I paid it because my children were with me and I didn't want to make a scene in front of them, but I want to be clear: I paid so I could leave with my dignity intact, and so I'd have the standing to fully describe what happened here, not because the charge or the treatment was acceptable. I wanted to give my kids a nice night out. Instead, they watched their mother get condescended to, questioned, and charged an absurd amount by someone who couldn't even be honest about being the owner. As a Black woman and someone who genuinely loves going out to eat, I will not be back, and I want other families -- especially families of color -- to know what to expect here before they walk in.

We requested siracha and the waiter gave us a very rude face when she gave it to us, and she charged us $2.50! We got our sushi and the rice was SOUR. It was spoiled and all the appetizers were greasy. I pray we do not get sick from this food, we will share an update.

Unfortunately, there was an overwhelming stench of poo poo cachoo when we entered the lobby prior to getting seated. I don't know if it was the cleaning agents that were used but the stench was so gross and unpleasant, I'm surprised my hubs and I were agreeable to stay. Anyways, I digress. When we were seated, the smell dissipated, thankfully. We had a lovely waiter named Lauren. She took our order and my hubs ordered the chicken ramen and I ordered the ying yang bowl. I made mine a combo because it came with a Thai iced tea and pork bao bun. We also ordered the yakitori platter to share and my hubs ordered a strawberry banana smoothie. We didn't wait too long to receive the yakitori platter which was decent but the meat was lukewarm. It consisted of chicken thigh, beef skirt, pork belly, scallops and zucchini that were on skewers. The fact that they were lukewarm didn't work in their favor. The skewers were small and didn't really hold the weight of a heavy $16 process. I then received my thai iced tea which tasted fine and my hubs enjoyed his strawberry smoothie reporting that it was creamy and flavorful. The pork bao was small but pretty good. The pork was tender and flavorful but the bao bun was too thick. It was like the bao bun thickness to the pork ratio didn't match. Still tasty nonetheless. When we got our soups, they were absolutely delicious. My hubs enjoyed his chicken ramen and he ordered extra noodles which help to enhance the dish alongside the use of the chili paste and shichimi togarashi condiment. My hubs reports that the soup including the bits of chicken at first was bland but was enhanced massively when he seasoned with the shichimi togarashi seasoning. Like him, I agreed as well. My ying yang soup was also bland in the beginning but once I added my bowl of extra noodles, some chili paste, some cayenne pepper and the shichimi togarashi condiment....things started to look up. It was creamy, spicy and oh so delicious. Lastly, to end the night, we got the Japanese cherry blossom jelly and the matcha tiramisu. Both were delicious and light. The Cherry blossom was so yummy, it reminded me of lychee. Just light and very flavorful. Absolutely, visually stunning as welll....i believe the youngins would call it a "clean girl aesthetic". The Japanese matcha tiramisu was delectable. Creamy, spongy and topped with a wonderful matcha powder that isn't overwhelming. All in all, we enjoyed our dinner date here. The food was good, price is a little steep for what you get and the decor is cute, big and open....with the exception of the smell of a really fat dinosaur who had an accident in the lobby. Thankfully, when we were heading through the lobby to leave, the stench of the dinosaur dookie was almost completely gone. For those of you who want to try it, I'd say go for it but I would also say you wouldn't miss out on anything, if you didn't.
