Not worth the hype. My family and I decided to give this place a try and it was underwhelming. The drinks weren't good, food was bland, and service was slow. I wouldn't even waste my time trying this place. You will have a better meal at Cheesecake Factory or Yard house in La Cantera. Wednesday evening I called to see if restaurant was busy, the hostess who answered said it was not. I arrived 10 minutes later and was told to wait for 40 minutes. An hour and 15 has now gone by, frustrated and will not be coming back here unless I have a reservation. Hopefully the food is worth waiting for... Update: the staff worked very hard to rectify the situation which we greatly appreciated. Food was soooooo good, we ordered the Cowboy Feast and would absolutely recommend to everyone. Our waiter was attentive and kind. Overall I would come back just with a reservation in advance next time to avoid long waits. We went for lunch today. Had a great server, Galaxy. She was helpful answering questions on the menu .She checked on us often and was very friendly , efficient and pleasant. I had the tortilla soup and house salad, my husband had the Western Burger with beef tallow fries. We both enjoyed our selections. They have weekly specials. The only highlight of this establishment is the bartenders and their drinks. On opening day, I ordered the steak salad, mac & cheese, and fries. The salad was disappointingly small, and the steak was so overcooked and tough it felt like chewing on a hockey puck. To make matters worse, I found plastic in my mac & cheese. When I brought it to the manager's attention, they questioned my claim, implying I had placed it there myself. I decided to give the place another chance and tried the salmon on my second visit--only to be equally disappointed. It was plain, dry, and completely tasteless. For the price and the reputation of a location like La Cantera, I expected far better. The managers clearly need proper training in customer service and quality control. My family and I went to Haywire for the very first time and I need to let San Antonio know that this is one of the best restaurants in town!! Beautifully decorated! Country vibes! From the very entrance the service was great :) shout out to the hostess! The food was absolutely delicious! We had ribeye, low and slow chicken and garlic stuffed filet and it was all 10/10! We put together a last minute party of 13. I was a little weary because of the negative reviews I read, but I know many people are liars and impossible so we decided to take our chance. And Thank the Good Lord we did!! The staff was super attentive and the food was so delicious! Get this, the restaurant was full, one of our children dropped a spoon and within a minute a waiter came by with new silverware and asked to get the one that was dropped. What a complete disaster. My friend and I sat at the bar and it was an absolute mess. They didn't bring us the water that we asked for, they forgot about our salad, my burger was wrong, I asked for salt which took at least five minutes so my food was getting cold by the time that arrived...they were nice enough to bring things out again but it took forever of course... and the burger was gross and greasy anyway... and then to add insult to injury I had a full plate I of green beans in front of me that I asked my friend to make sure they boxed up when I went to the restroom... well she was talking to people so I guess she got distracted and the bartenders cleared and threw away a completely full, untouched serving of food that I was planning to take home as leftovers, and when I came back and asked them if my food has been boxed up he shrugged and said sorry it wasn't me who cleared the dishes. My first time at Haywire and it was delicious! I met my friends for brunch and everyone enjoyed their food and cocktails. It happened to be the first day Haywire was offering their brunch menu and they brought out two of the brunch dishes for us to share on the house! The restaurant is incredibly spacious and family friendly. Our server Zaine was incredibly attentive and didn't miss a beat despite there being 7 separate checks. Recently went here for my birthday dinner celebration and was highly impressed. We had an excellent waiter (Abby) and she took excellent care of us throughout the evening. Was very kind, informative and attentive. We had the Gulf Coast Ceviche which was very tasty as an appetizer, along with some delicious cocktails. The chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken were generous portions and the sides were wonderful. Had to sample some desserts at the end of the night and we all split the pecan pie and homestead cake both of which were phenomenal. Worst experience ever. My husband and I drove 2 1/2hrs away to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Had a reservation set for 9:45pm. It was nice and very welcoming at the beginning, ordered a sweet tea, didn't have any. Ordered the chicken, came back said they didn't have any. I then ordered a 6oz. filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus, my husband ordered the 18oz cowboy bone-in. As time went on, I'm assuming, a manager came and said he was going to give us a discount because "something happen" to their printer that prints out orders, and it was taking longer than expected. A couple minutes later, a server came to us stating they had no mash potatoes for my order. As we waited we notice everyone leaving and employees started to clean and sweep all around us. Then to top it all off, another person came to us and said they DROP MY HUSBAND STEAK on the FLOOR. And if he wanted to get the steak thats below the one he originally wanted. By the time we got our food it was 10:53, they close at 11. We told them to just box it up and we will eat at our hotel. Once we ate, the steaks were horrible and my asparagus tasted like oil. I understand our reservations were on the later end but don't offer that time if you won't have hardly anything on the menu for people to eat. And no discount was appointed for taking a long time, just only for his steak. I will not be recommending this place to anyone. read more

My first visit to Haywire on 3/11/25 was at the recommendation of a coworker. I was very impressed with the level of service we received. The waiter was attentive, friendly, and gave us great dining recommendations. The restaurant was busy but we never felt rushed. On the contrary our waiter James made us feel welcomed and invited us back at the end of the night. I am not a person who normally leaves reviews unless I receive excellent service. Had my husbands birthday dinner here and was disappointed. The service was slow. Party of 11 getting our bar drinks at least 10 minutes apart from each other was the first issue. As the last couple to be served was just getting their drinks the first couples were ordering another round. The appetizers (onion rings and cerviche) were good and the food was good but there were fruit flies in and around our drinks and food which grossed me out. It was a cold and windy night but the AC was on full blast and it was freezing in there. Lastly, everyone had their food and they forgot mine so I sat there as everyone wanted to wait u til I got my food which is awkward. I finally told everyone to start without me. My husband wouldn't do his food was cold by the time my food came. We also asked for cornbread and that was brought after we were all done with dinner. We have been to the haywire in Dallas before and service was great I was expecting the same from this location but it was the worse. But thought if we get a new server tonight it'd be different but turns out my server had made a racist comment in the rr hall that my wife over heard him saying "dark skin guests don't tip" in Spanish (we understand Spanish) she was very quiet after that and now I know why. Makes sense why he was hardly giving us attention that night would just drop off food and not check if we need anything else, we needed ranch and ketchup and refills but had to eat without it. Online reservation through Open Table was easy to use. We did have to wait about 20-30 minutes to be sat, even with a reservation. Our waitress was extremely nice, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband was not very happy with his entree. He ordered the wagyu chicken fried steak. He said it was very fatty, tasted weird, and he couldn't finish it for that reason. We ordered the Elk mini tacos as an appetizer and those were good but we question if it was elk. It really tasted like ground beef and looked that way. We have had elk before and the texture and taste really didn't match. I was very happy with my order. I chose the ceviche (app as an entree) and it was very tasty! The shrimp had great texture, there was spiciness to it, and it was refreshing. I would eat that again and again. To drink, I had a Marfa margarita. It was very sweet and not too strong. I like my drinks on the drier side so I won't be ordering that again. For dessert, we ordered the pecan pie. The waitress said it had a cinnamon roll-like crust. I had to try it! When we got it, that was not the case. The crust was so dry and crumbled into chunks upon trying to cut in to it. This was our first time visiting - we were seated right away and the location was very beautiful. We enjoyed the atmosphere although it was freezing. We even saw a table move to another area because it was so cold. Whatever food was placed on our table was immediately cold. Service started out fine our waiter recommended some apps and took our drink order. From there it went a little off the rails. Appetizer came out a while later and we still had our menus and hadn't ordered entrees which was awkward trying to arrange things on the table around large menus. Then our waiter came by and asked if we wanted to enjoy our appetizer for a bit before ordering- we said no we were ready to order. (This was weird) I'm glad we ordered when we did because the food took forever. We saw so many things sit under the lamps for a long time and get moved around. Finally our food came out minus my son's food. The guy who dropped off the food didn't say anything about the missing meal which we could see on the food line. The waiter came by and asked how everything looked and I told him we were good just missing one side and my son's meal. He brought the hamburger my son ordered but no fries and no missing side. Said they were working on it. We asked for steak sauce at this point as well. At least ten minutes later we see fries on the food line and no sign of our waiter: I'm pretty chill up until this point. If you know your table is missing food you should probably be keeping a close eye on it. Finally a member of our party just went up to the food line and asked for the fries. When the waiter came back by and asked how things were I mentioned things felt a little chaotic and we were missing items for so long he just apologized. We never got the other side we just gave up because we were pretty much done. He came by and casually set the steak sauce down even though it was clear we were done eating. Lol. At this point we were just laughing. The food was decent but for the prices and the vibes of the restaurant the service needs tightening up. I can see from other reviews that timing and expo is an issue. We will probably try again but maybe in 6 months or so when the kinks are worked out.
