First of all, let me start off by saying WOW! I the service and food were spectacular! We came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and we were treated so well. We walked in about 15 minutes before our actual reservation so we hung out at the bar and had a drink. Before we were done with our drinks, the hostess came over to us to let us know our table was ready. I did not know that this was an open kitchen concept but I was thrilled when I seen it. We were seated by the kitchen. I thought it was bd a bit noisy but the kitchen staff was quiet which allowed us to enjoy our meal and conversation. The waitress was very nice and observant. She did not interrupt our conversations, she waited until we sat plates aside as we were done to avoid reaching over us, and she even took pictures for us. She also offered us glasses of prosecco to celebrate with. We ordered the roasted carrots and pork belly for appetizers and the short beef ribs and steak for entrees. The food was so good! I mean, the steak melted in your mouth! I thought the steak at Bohanan's was great but I think Signature got the best of them. My friend and I had the best time here for Sunday brunch. I made a reservation in advance and upon arrival we were seated promptly. Our waiter visited our table and took our mimosa and appetizer order. The ambiance of the restaurant was superb and I loved the open concept of the kitchen staff prepping the food. The Texas pancakes and bacon was absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back in town and visit again. I will say I noticed the manager for that day catering to a particular table only. No tiger table dod he stop by and greet. I guess they were wealthy and when we left he didn't even tell us thank you for coming or acknowledged us as he was standing near the entry table by the door. Did the tasting menu and had a great experience overall. The service and pacing was good for me but not so great for others. One guest was served butter and a pho amuse bouche at the same time so she took a good spoonful of her butter, dipped it into her pho, and ate it because nobody told her what she had just been served. I can't imagine what she was thinking. Started with some fresh bread and a generous medallion of a butter and onion ash roll. Nice touch. The pho came to me cold but I found out it was intended to be hot. I guess if it's not served immediately it gets cold really fast because it's just a sip or two. It was very clean and OK flavor but I prefer the deep, umami richness of a fatty pho broth. Continuing with the amuse bouche, I was served a platter of three pieces--a scotch egg, cornbread truffle and fries, and something unmemorable. The scotch egg and cornbread were OK but at this point I was starting to wonder if I was wasting my time and money. Then I tried the tuna and that was a flavor bomb. Cubed tuna over a creamy coconut sauce with a hint of heat, balanced with fresh citrus and purple potato crisps for some added texture and a tasty salt finish. This was visually stunning and just singing in my mouth. I absolutely loved it! Scallop and caviar topped with smoked king salmon, and crispy leeks. This was rich and decadent and I appreciated the crispy leeks to balance the otherwise soft textures. Wished the lime was a little more pronounced to help brighten and lift some of the richness, but still a very good dish. Charred romanesco broccoli with a romesco sauce and green salsa was served with pickled raisins and a heaping serving of shredded manchego cheese. This was good but not something I'd want to reorder. Raspberry bergamot lemon sorbet was just the refreshing bite needed before the heavy hitters. The Texas Wagyu coulotte was cooked to perfection. It was simple, served with mushrooms, and didn't need a lot of fuss. For desert, I was served a persimmon chocolate mousse with orange, a rolled persimmon slice, and dollops of what tasted like yuzu. As full as I was I was able to finish this all. It was creamy, rich, and balanced with citrus notes. And finally, the service ended with a mixed plate of petit fours which held up well the next day and were all very good -- a brownie, dulce de leche, macaron, chocolate chip cookie, and some sort of citrus gel. In all, I think the tasting menu was worth the price. I think chef did a great job balancing flavors and textures, plating beautifully, and staying true to ingredients while having fun experimenting. If my pho wasn't served cold, I didn't see some poor service, and the extra amuse bouche trio wasn't served I probably would've given this 5 stars. Maybe next time. read more

Excellent fine dining experience at Signature. This was my first visit for dinner. I appreciated how well their team worked together to ensure every detail was covered. Our server was Aaron and he was attentive without being intrusive. He was able to share menu recommendations and didn't steer us wrong. Prior to the appetizer we enjoyed the amuse bouche, which was a new dining experience. It is a small taste to awaken the palate. A French term which roughly translates to "amuse the mouth". This highly seasoned savory broth truly cleared my senses and was a nice start to the meal. We enjoyed the quail appetizer, venison and short ribs for dinner. I did wish their selection of salad and light appetizers was more broad. However, the quail with greens and cornbread polenta was a delicious start. And the short ribs literally melted in our mouths. The atmosphere in Signature is elegant and cozy. There was a roaring fire in the fireplace this January evening. However I think it presents best in Spring for patio dining due to the gardens and lovely view. I greatly enjoyed it for my birthday dinner. and their complementary birthday desserts were a generous and lovely surprise. It is also great for business dining, however it would not be my first choice for a romantic date night due to the close proximity of the indoor tables. Signature has become one of my favorite spots in San Antonio. Although the prices are on the higher end, it's well worth it! The food, service, and ambiance was right on parking. A great spot for a romantic anniversary dinner or any other celebrations. We chose to have the Chef John Carpenter's Tasting Menu for dinner, which is the perfect 8 course meal to try a little bit of everything. Portions were spot on, where you feel full, but not overwhelmingly. The amuse bouche and thr Ora King Salmon were my favorites, where I think the flavor profile really stood out. The amuse bouche include foie gras and and tuna, which was perfectly paired with flavors to help the juices going for the meal. The quail and the scallops & pork belly were both good, but I felt like the food was lacking a little bit of flavor. My favorite part of the meal was the temperature of my food. Freshly cooked food was warm/hot and cold food came out as it was supposed to. A lot of restaurants with Michelin 1 stars miss this and I was deeply impressed! We ordered the octopus, beef tartare, and pork belly appetizers and enjoyed them all. The sauces were exceptional. For our entrees we ordered the halibut and the red fish. The halibut was wonderful in a really tasty beurre blanc sauce. The red fish was not enjoyed by either of us but when we mentioned it (when they cleared our table and saw it on the plate) they graciously took it off our bill. I had an outstanding experience here that fully exceeded my expectations for a San Antonio restaurant. I figured it would be nice, but the experience I had was wonderful. There is a somewhat small dining room that looks into the open kitchen and also over the golf course of La cantera resort so the scenery is gorgeous to begin with. The service is incredible with knowledgeable waitstaff who can assist with choices about wine or from the menu. The entire experience is very curated like a fine dining restaurant and very farm to table as well. The pork belly appetizer was melt in your mouth delicious. Loved this place! We were staying at La Cantera and decided to have dinner in their Signature restaurant. Our waiter, Jacob, was AMAZING! Super friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the wine, and he put up with a loud group of girls (us) all night and made our evening that much more fun! Now for the food... ridiculously good! The presentation of each plate was beautiful, but the taste of everything was out of this world! The short rib was like butter, and I was curious about the scallops, so he let me add one to my plate to try (it was perfection). The octopus appetizer and the venison were my next favorite things! We all got different plates and plates for sharing and everyone was happy with all of the orders! It's a little pricey, but definitely worth it! One of the finest meals I have had in many years. From the moment we walked in, with one of the staff holding the door open for us, to the hostess (Samantha) to our server (Mia or Meow), everything was above and beyond. The culinary team just just cook and prepare the food, but they take their time to make it an artistic presentation. So pretty you almost don't want to eat it. The experience at Chef Carpenter's Signature restaurant had a great start, but definitely lost steam towards the end. Driving up the road to the restaurant, there is a choice of parking spots around the front of the restaurant. I suppose they also have valet. You'll enter a vintage space. A nice floral display was present, and we checked in, letting them know we had a reservation for the tasting menu. A couple of couches and the bar area are not far from the entrance. The upstairs area is open and accessible, check it out if you get a chance. We were seated at a large circular table. Water was poured, and a team member came by to infuse based on choices from a platter: a choice of cucumber, lemon, mint, and orange. We opted for cucumber, lemon, and mint. We were presented with all the menus they had. We confirmed we were going for the tasting menu sans the wine pairing, but decided to grab non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails: Sunset in the Tropics, and Signature Smash. Sunset was very much passion fruit based. The Smash had more interesting and refreshing flavors. The peach essence was actually quite light; the other components melded together seamlessly. 1. The Amuse Bouche was some kind of acorn-squash-pumpkin chowder one-biter. Creamy and yummy, but not too memorable. It came with a piece of bread, and that bread came with onion ash butter shaped like the layers of an onion. The butter had a great oniony, almost black peppery flavor. 2. The Tuna: blood orange, sweet potato, charred corn, passion fruit. Refreshing, sour, and spicy. Sourness from the passion fruit was prominent. They told me the orange dollops were sweet potato, but I couldn't really tell. Flavor was pretty much like Sunset in the Tropics, but with some capsaicin. 3. Scallop & Ostera Caviar: celery root, garlic chips, yuzu beurre blanc. Scallop was a scallop, though one of the scallops was fishy. The sauce had a great flavor. Slightly tart, buttery, and savory. 4. Pork Belly: poblano creamed corn, picked peppers, black garlic molasses. Arguably the star of the night. Great textures, a crisp meat portion, with melt in your mouth fat that is slightly sweet; undertone of the poblano creamed corn. 5. Intermezzo: something passion fruit sorbet--they used quite a bit of passion fruit in the menu 6. Prime Tenderloin: potato fondant, onion soubise, maitake mushroom, truffle red wine jus. Sorry to say, this one was the letdown of the night. Unseasoned steak, and the potatoes just tasted like potatoes boiled in water. No, the sauce did not help overcome the blandness. These were very disappointing bites. 7. Banana Roulade: coffee chocolate cake, banana pastry cream, caramel, vanilla wafer ice cream. A decent dessert. The sugared banana chip was neat. 8. Petite Fours: interestingly, this came as a single serving, rather than in pairs. I mean, they were all pretty sweet. I didn't have a favorite among them. It was a lackluster ending. Conclusion: strong start, lackluster finish to the tasting menu (including service attitudes). Decor and interior design are great. Clean bathrooms. Open kitchen, with hanging pots and pans. Weird stuff going on with the lighting though: dimming and brightening throughout the night. The staff work pretty efficiently. Sorta neat upstairs area. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant starting with the atmosphere being so warm like you're in a cabin kitchen in the woods. You can tell the employees really care about the experience and the atmosphere as everyone was very welcoming. We had a reservation and were immediately welcomed with refreshing water with your choice of garnish. The cocktail menu is well crafted and the wine menu is excellent! Grace who was amazing and so knowledgeable about the menu was our server and made amazing suggestions based on my preferences. She was also very attentive and friendly which made our entire experience exceptional. Appetizers, the heirloom carrots and grilled Spanish Octopus were so tasty and flavorful. You can tell the Chef really took time to include various flavors but still with its uniqueness. The bread is dangerously good with their homemade butter. We also had the risotto which was comforting. The stars of the dinner were the Halibut & Venison. The Halibut was cooked to perfection, the flavors were so buttery and I loved the flavors with it. My favorite fish in San Antonio! The Venison had an amazing reduction sauce & the texture was not gamey, it was like eating a filet mignon and we ate both plates clean. Try the Banana dessert at the end which was the icing on top! The manager Layton came and checked in on us to make sure we were happy, the servers all helped each other making sure our waters were never empty and we always had clean plates and utensils. This is was one of my favorite restaurant experiences in San Antonio. We used to love signature and it being near our house was always a plus. Went for brunch recently and my wife made a reservation (called to confirm twice) that we wouldn't be sitting in that sun room off to the side. It was for a birthday and to be Frank, that room has no vibe and is so segmented off yetwhen we arrived, they tried sitting us in the room that we specifically asked to not have on our reservation. Super annoying as they scrambled to find us a table, but ignored it. Our waiter was terrible. Seemed occupied and frantic with other tables never came back to push down the French press as he said he would. Didn't put in one of our meals which we found out when the food was brought out. When we flagged him down to ask about it instead of just being honest, he said the kitchen was backed up. We knew this wasn't accurate because the kid who brought the food out said it was never ordered. I just don't appreciate being lied to when you mess up. He also never came back to check on our table. We never received ketchup, salt and pepper, hot sauce, or butter and jam although four of us ordered biscuits. Considering the price of the restaurant, and the fact that this was for a birthday, this was appalling. We ended up having to cancel the pancake that we had ordered for the table because our meals were already done and we still didn't receive it. If you forget an order that's made on the fly, not thrown to the back of the list with every other Tom, Dick, and Harry. Save your time and money. So many other places in SA to go read more

Pretty damned good overall. The sauce on the pork rib was awesome, and even though I'm not usually a fan of greens, they were excellent. The potatoes with the prime rib, however, were a bit too salty for my taste. The asparagus was just okay--not out of this world. The service was very awesome, and it was cool being able to see them work in the kitchen. The atmosphere is great, making it perfect for special occasions. Dessert was a mixed bag. The Tiramisu was not impressive at all, but they brought out some little desserts at the end, which was a nice touch. They also sent us home with an awesome piece of chocolate cake with raspberries inside and a fancy gold flake on top. That was much better than the Tiramisu. (we paid for the Tiramisu, but the extra little desserts at the end seemed to be part of the experience - the chocolate cake with raspberries seemed to be part of the birthday dessert with no additional charge). We left with many sweets, so I'm really not sure what we paid for. Overall, a great place with some standout dishes and excellent service. read more

We have been going to signature a couple of times a year, for special occasions, for many years. It always feels like a special indulgence. I had creamy risotto and my wife had a fried quail for appetizers. Both were incredibly well executed. We moved on to beef tenderloin for my wife and redfish with fried oysters for me. The waitress never flinched when my wife ordered her tenderloin med-well. It came out perfect and still moist. This place is perfect for a date night. We will be back. Last time I came was back in April so I was excited to see new things on the menu! I want to try it all! We kept it simple with some appetizers and a split entree... which was plenty for us! My friend's cocktail and my mocktail was just as beautiful as it was tasty! I will say... I thought the service was a little slow (compared to last time) but the restaurant was super busy and we had a lot to talk about and was in no rush so we didn't mind. If you aren't familiar with the variety of utensils to use during proper dining then please do yourself a favor and ask your waiter to advise you throughout the evening, requesting guidance on which utensils to use and when, rather than a crash course at the beginning. This personalized approach helped us enjoy the entire experience. We took our time with to truly enjoy the art behind every bite. The highlight, for this plantita lady, was the restaurant's stunning garden area, where the fresh vegetables were harvested for that evening's menu. We were told that their menu is seasonal. It was beautifully decorated in the front reception area, but where we were seated was a little dark and almost had to use our cellphone flashlights to see the menu. Service was ok, everyone was really cheery for working on Christmas Eve, but our entrees took a long time to come out. Food was 4.5 stars - my husband didn't like the figgy pudding, it was dense and kinda dry. All the other dishes were tasty and decently sized. I rarely give five stars, let me say that going in the door. I completely agree with another yelper who recently reviewed Signature, though - it's definitely a hidden gem. Signature had been on my wife's radar for a long time, and we finally had the perfect reason for going: our anniversary. We arrived and we seated promptly for our reservation time. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic evening. They knew it was our anniversary as I'd marked it making the reservation. However, neither my wife or I drink alcohol and the first thing they did - without even asking - was bring two glasses of champagne to the table. Very sweet gesture, and I told them so, but I also felt it presumptuous. When we sent it back, they brought us something else, which was very nice. So, in general, one of my biggest reservations (no pun intended) going to a high dollar restaurant like this - is portion size. It seems you pay for a high dollar meal only to get a dish the size of an appetizer - therefore leaving hungry. I'm glad to report that Signature is NOT LIKE THAT. My wife had the prime rib, and I opted for the wagyu. Both portions left us so full we barely had room for our anniversay dessert. We had good time here; I'd definitely be back, and I would definitely recommend it for a very nice date night location. Drawbacks: even though the portion size was larger than expected, I'm still not - just generally - sold on paying this much for a meal. We opted for the John Carpenter's tasting menu and added the wine pairing. The service was exceptional! Our server was very poised and professional throughout our entire experience. The introduction of each dish was seamless. About halfway through our experience the sommelier came to our table to introduce himself and ask what we thought of our pairings this far. We shared our thoughts and favorites. I can't imagine the experience without the wine pairings. Each option truly elevated the flavors of each dish. This was the first time trying foie gras, caviar and paid each dish with a wine pairing. I am glad I decided to venture into this realm at the Signature. When dinner was complete, the server offered to call a shuttle to our villa. The attention that was paid to us siding this experience was extraordinary. After our final appetizer, we waited nearly an hour and a half for our entrées. y husband and I went to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Signature went above and beyond for us. It started while we were waiting to be seated and continued through the entire meal. Everyone that we had contact with was knowledgeable and friendly and made the whole experience worth it. As parents of a 6 year old, we do not get to do this kind of thing often and I was not at all disappointed. The food was fantastic. My husband had the wagyu steak and I had the short rib. The appetizers were just as good. I wish I could remember my server's name because he really was excellent. His suggestions were on point and he could answer every question we had. So many details, like the amuse bouche and the palate cleanser, that make the experience feel special.
