Hazel Marie's Ice Cream is a solid spot if you're looking for rich, well-made ice cream with lots of unique flavors to choose from. The flavors are bold and creative, which makes it fun to try something different. It did get busy pretty quickly, so they were moving the line along and limiting tastings, which is understandable but felt a little rushed. Overall, it's a great after-dinner stop if you're in downtown Plainfield and want a sweet treat. read more

The ice cream at this place is really good. You can tell that it's made from scratch. There's a lot of choices for flavors toppings, and the people that work. There are nice and friendly will make recommendations. There's not a lot of indoor seating so you might want to take your order to go and if it's nice out, find a place in one of the parks or somewhere along Lockport Street to sit Today, we sat in the car for that reason. It's like an old fashion ice cream parlor which are a few and far between these days. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

When you arrive the staff greets you and you can try samples. The options are plentiful, there is ice cream for everyone, and the perfect sized for your appetite. There is ample seating available, and it is well lit and clean. If you are in downtown Plainfield stop in. read more

I'm so glad we got to go before they closed! While visiting, we decided to go get us a sweet treat, as they are a walking distance from us. They have a lot to choose from. I'm so glad my little one can't read, yet. She would of gone crazy picking all the flavors lol. So much ice cream and sweet treats to choose from. The owners are also very friendly and sweet, too! And the bright pink and green colors really make it stand out. The ice cream was delicious too. We all had such a fun time, I highly recommend everyone checks it out; at least once. This is definitely going to be a favorite ice cream place to go to, when visiting Plainfield. 10/10 read more

Last night my hubby and I stopped at Hazel Marie's for a sweet treat. We had a single scoop cone of That !@*! Just got serious and a chocolate malt. The ice cream was good with lots of exciting flavors salted Carmel ice cream with cashews, fudge. My chocolate malt had a good malty flavor, wish it was a little thicker. Otherwise overall a good solid milkshake. It is super cute inside with a nostalgic feel and over 20 ice cream options. Wow! This place never cease to amaze me! This is my third time here and every time I have gotten ice cream here, it has been amazing. My go to flavor is he espresso. This is my second time having it and it is just as good as I remember. The customer service is an excellent and even though there was a long line, they got through it relatively quickly and you can tell that ice cream is high-quality. This is our go to place. read more

Went on a Tuesday shortly after opening so we scored parking a little down the street. A small cup of espresso ice cream for me and a small cup of cotton candy ice cream for my son was just over $7 and a pretty good serving size. The espresso had a nice light flavor. The cotton candy was also well flavored. I expected it to be super sweet but it wasn't. Which explains why my son ate more than half of his serving. He's not a big ice cream eater so that was a good sign. Both flavors were very creamy. Very clean, well-lit. Also had some seating outside. It's location provides a nice walk as well. It's a short walk to the Village Green (there's a playground and splash pad). The location is while I'll also avoid going towards peak times (weekends and evenings) but that's a personal preference. read more

Me and my husband live in Joliet and even though there are nice ice cream places closer to us, when we're craving something sweet, we make the drive to Hazel Maries. The outside is a vibrant pink color, you can't miss it. The inside is similarly decorated and always very clean, even when they're crowded on busy days. The people working the counter are always friendly and willing to give you samples before you make your choice. My favorite flavor is the Zanzibar Chocolate and I get it every time on a homemade waffle cone. It's rich, dark and velvety. My husband is more adventurous with the flavors and most recently enjoyed the Fat Elvis(banana base with peanut butter and fudge I think?) Yummy place, highly recommend. read more

Ice cream was a 5 but COVID alert! I walked in and the person in front of me with her 3 kids wasn't wearing a mask. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the vintage ice cream parlor aesthetics along with the smell of sweet delights. The atmosphere screams the mid 1900s with the design and color scheme. There are 12 flavors to choose from, both traditional and unique, and you can also ask for a small taste of the any of the flavors. It was a match in heaven when the Fat Elvis ice cream caught my attention. Its made with banana cream with fudge and peanut butter- fit for the sweetest of kings. You don't get any better than this - Hazel Marie's is a genuine old fashioned ice cream parlor that has filled a big need in Plainfield for frosty treats! They have a super FUN nostalgic atmosphere with cute seating and lots of retro songs playing on the sound system. LOVE their huge selection of flavors - Fat Elvis is sooo decadent and the Coconut Almond Bliss cannot be missed (hubby loves their Pistachio). They even offer a low sugar and a dairy free option that not many places do. There is NOT a bad flavor in the bunch and the service is awesome - always friendly, always smiling, always quick to get you what you want. This cute little shop had some very interesting flavor combinations, but I'm glad I went. I tried their 'This $&@! Just Got Serious' flavor, and I think it is now my favorite ice cream type of all time! It is salted caramel ice cream with sea salt fudge and salted cashews. This marks one of the saddest days on the calendar. This divine shop closes for the season and begins the countdown to the April 1st re-open. The only place Princess Elizabeth will get the sweet tooth satisfied when an appearance is made. The best ice cream, the best staff, the sweetest owners. The espresso itself is mild, which works as a base but I personally wish it had a little more backbone. The iced lavender matcha is my personal standout and I will not be taking questions. They also let you build your own combinations, and a recent banana brown sugar iced latte I dreamed up was exactly as good as it sounds. The food punches above typical coffee shop fare. The Beyond sandwich with its sweet heat chipotle aioli is a genuine win, vegan or not. The brown sugar bacon gouda is a household favorite for my family. The baked treats are decent but honestly priced a touch above what they deliver. They are the only coffee shop in the area so the pricing reflects that reality more than the competition. The space is your standard coffee shop Joanna Gaines-esque rustic, warm and comfortable. They feature local art on the walls which I love, though I wish they rotated it more frequently. Easy way to keep things fresh and support the local creative community more actively. Staff is kind, genuinely engaging, and this is a queer safe space, which matters and is always worth naming out loud.

DOPPELBOCK 'N ROLL…read more This suburban brewery taps a solid, headbanging beer. I've always felt that a cold draft hits differently than a can or bottle. When the mood strikes me, I'll venture over to Garage Band Brewing on Des Plaines St in downtown Plainfield, next door to Station One Smokehouse (with whom they share a symbiotic relationship). Their brews have hard rock-inspired names, like 'Stout It Out Loud' (a play on the KISS song), 'Hop Shaped Box' (Alice in Chains), and 'Hybrid Th30ry' (a 30 IBU pale ale with a nod to Linkin Park). Last time here, I got 12oz of the 'Don't Harsh My Mellow' for $6. I dig the packaging wrap on their 16oz cans of Dizzy Up the Blonde; a Marilyn Monroe-esque lady sitting on a 55gal drum, suggestively tugging on her red high heel with one hand and holding a chalice of beer in the other. What's not to like there? They have a trio of pinball tables that get sporadically rotated out. Previously they had Foo Fighters and Star Wars, now they've got Stranger Things, JAWS, and a gorgeous Godzilla premium model at $1 per play. There's a digital jukebox too, if you wanna pick tunes for the venue. * TL;DR * I lack the time and expertise to brew my own beer, so I'm happy to leave it to the pros. Garage Band is a small operation with big dreams, and they already have a handful of solid brews in circulation. I check back every few months to see their new seasonal drafts, like a shandy in the summer and darker Oktoberfest-style beer in the fall. They're closed Mon-Tues. Beer and pinball are significant passions of mine, and since Garage Band has a nice selection of both, they get an easy 5*.

They have some rotating flavors depending on the day, listed on a big chalk board. The cake is moist, their flavors are fun. It's always a treat to step inside and pick up something sweet.
