That's not acceptable when mixing a band or playing in a band--we gotta hear how things really sound. Five years ago, a fellow sound mixer suggested I invest in custom fit filters that dim loud sounds without changing their character. Several members of our band and sound team also wanted custom filters so Shauna brought her portable kit to our rehearsal. The fitting took about 5-10 minutes per person for both ears. Shauna did a great job keeping us informed about how the procedure would feel and how to stay relaxed for the best fitment results. Two weeks later, I received perfectly fitting filters and they accompany me to every music/theater event. New materials and new in-ear monitors have recently hit the market so it's time to buy new stuff. Shauna was my first phone call to arrange a new fitting appointment.

These people are the exclusive specialists you should see if you have concerns with tinnitus of any kind. They will pull all of the important hearing tests and properly educate you about tinnitus so you won't believe stuff you see online. I now carry around ear plugs attached to my keys everywhere I go. I may not be able to control random loud sounds outside but I can control how I react. By putting on ear plugs the instant I know loud noises are coming, and living cautiously by not going to places where I know the noise/music is loud.

Wonderful experience from start to finish at this office!…read more I've always been protective of my hearing at concerts, parades, and other loud environments, but always been a little disappointed at how regular foam earplugs and even more expensive plugs distort the sound. I knew custom-fit, professionally engineered plugs were an option for far less distortion (and thus more enjoyment of shows), and I decided to bite the bullet and have some made. There was a little bit of a snafu with the appointment I'd made through a third-party provider, but the office managed to work me in despite the trouble (which was totally not their fault). This was all uncharted territory for me, but Dr. Giana Hatem put me at ease and was really wonderful to work with throughout the whole process. She answered all my questions, made some recommendations, and walked me through everything, from taking impressions of my ears (which feels super weird, but it doesn't hurt one bit) to making sure the fit was right and that I was happy when the final product came in. Which brings me to another thing to love about this office: they have a wonderful sense of humor! So refreshing! As Dr. Hatem was walking me through the office while I had bright pink goop in my ears, another doctor pointed at my ear and said "there's something in your ear!" On a return visit, they had a skeleton sitting on a bench in their waiting room reading a newspaper for Halloween too. These are not stuffy, super-serious-business people. I love that. After using my new earplugs for a while, I decided I wanted a second pair with far less attenuation for karaoke nights so I could hear myself off the house speakers better while singing, and Dr. Hatem made that process super easy. She asked me several questions to make sure she understood my needs and went out of her way to find me attenuators with about 80% less apparent attenuation (16dB less). I didn't even have to come back in for impressions- they still had my previous ones available to make a second set of plugs. If you're a serious musician or even just a serious concert-goer and you want to hear the full spectrum of sound, without distortion, and just quieter, I really recommend getting a custom set of earplugs. And this California Hearing Center office is a terrific place to get some made!

Would have been nice to know if and when new patients are accepted. I reached out to a specialty office for a speciality service - based on their website/Yelp/Google that's what they offer. If I wanted to utilize Insurance through my Primary Care Doc that's the route I would have taken. I love supporting local businesses over huge corporations, and would have been happy paying out of pocket for services as it relates to my ear health. This will not be a local business I suggest working with.

I have visited many hearing clinics since purchasing my first hearing aids thirty years ago, and…read morethis is absolutely the best clinic I have encountered. My recent experiences elsewhere in the Bay Area were frustrating; for instance, while the audiologists at the Stanford Hearing Institute are competent, they don't seem to listen to their patients. In contrast, the audiologists at Sound Speech & Hearing Clinic are both knowledgeable and dedicated to following up on any issues. Melissa Beer is highly competent and friendly; she worked with me extensively to fine-tune my hearing aids over several sessions. An additional benefit is the pricing, which is much more affordable than the Stanford Hearing Institute for exactly the same hearing aids from Oticon. Even though I live forty miles away from San Francisco, the travel is well worth the effort.

Do not go to this office if you are seeking basic care for an ear infection or similar. They will…read morerequire you to take audible tests for hearing, they do not disclose that requirement, force you to do it otherwise you can't see the doctor, and then charge you for it. I reached out to Ear Associates in May of 2026 to see a doctor for an ear infection. I booked my appointment for 5/29/26. Upon arriving to the doctor's office I was escorted into a room and a provider started running audible testing on me. I asked the provider to stop and expressed concern as i was coming in for an ear infection and thought I was to see a doctor. The provider said I was not allowed to see the doctor until they finished this audible tests. Upon booking of this appointment, no one disclosed anything in regards to a requirement for audible tests. Since i was in dire need to see a doctor, I begrudgingly proceeded. The audible testing lasted for 20-30 minutes. Then i finally got to see a doctor for my ear infection. Even the doctor expressed confusion as to why i was subjected to hearing tests just for an ear infection. The doctor's office agreed to waive the doctor's visit fees, however, I asked to be charged for the doctor's visit and to credit for the audible testing that was not disclosed and forced upon me. The office refused. Additionally, Jacqui Garcia whom was the last person i spoke to at this facility was extremely rude and unhelpful with any further path forward to resolving this issue. Extremely shady. They should be upfront about requiring these hearing tests ahead of seeing a doctor instead of forcing them upon you and refusing to credit it from the bill.
