Went last week with a dear friend. At first it seemed as though our reservation was lost but they ultimately found it and seated us without incident. So glad we didn't have a problem. The meal was wonderful and the service superb! We shared the pork belly and the octopus. Both were great but if you have to choose one, go with the octopus. For our mains, we both got the scallops. OMG; delicious. They were seared beautifully and the chowder broth poured over complemented the dish perfectly. Dessert was a blueberry panna cotta for him and a strawberry ice cream bar for me. I really don't understand all the hype about this place. With extremely high prices and nearly impossible reservations, there were some inexcusable mistakes. The appetizers were great - beef carpaccio and hamachi ceviche were very good except the carpaccio was overpowered by the jalapeños... we love spicy food but removed a lot of the jalapeño in order to really taste the beef. The pasta, tagliatelle with braised duck, was delicious. Our main courses were disappointing. The scallops were over salted - and we cook with a good deal of salt at home. The 1/2 chicken was completely charred. We asked if this is how it was intended to be served and were told yes, it is cooked in a 600 degree oven. The burnt skin was unpleasant and we sent it back. My fiance and I came here for a birthday dinner. The only time we could get was 5pm. We started with the rabbit pasta (I forget the fancy name) which my fiance thought was ok and I thought it was great. She thought the sauce hid the flavor of the rabbit. I loved it. For dinner, we had the special, Branzino fish, and we both agreed it was outstanding. It came in a great sauce with tomatoes and olives. Delish. Service was good. Second time here; tonight was for my birthday. To say that this restaurant is now my favorite after only two occasions is astonishing but it's true! Whom ever is in charge of training the waitstaff, hats off to you! My first experience was great and tonight was spectacular! From the timing of the presentation of food to the actual presentation itself, everything was as I expect it to be when I dine out. So many fall short in one way or another. NOT HERE. Daryl was the most attentive, vibrant, enthusiastic waiter that I have had in a while. I take nothing away from our first server because she too was great but Daryl had a certain quality that made you want to try each dish! I almost don't want to give away this secret so I can always get a table! This place came highly recommended and we couldn't have picked a better spot for our date night. Small and cozy and the food was amazing. As recommended we split the steak made for the table. Totally worth the price. I've been to a lot of nice steak houses in the city and this steak beat them all! We ended with the apple fritter dessert, not something I would normally order but again recommended... omg! As good as the steak. Hubby said this was his top experience eating out ever! I agree it was in my top three (I had an amazing experience at the Vetri flagship restaurant in Philadelphia and I had a burrata experience to die for in center city!) I love that this is byob as well. You can bring a wine That match the greatness of the steak and not have to pay double the price of the bottle. Blown away by how beautiful, well run and delicious Hearthside is on day 1! This is clearly the brainchild of well seasoned culinary masters. From the moment you step through the front door you're greeted with an elegant and well appointed dining room with views right into where the magic happens. The hostesses are extremely friendly and the seating is comfortable with plenty of room to stretch out. The food is world class. I'm trying really hard but failing to come up with a single aspect of the entire dining experience that needs improvement. Seems like whoever is running the show is very detail oriented- noise absorbers in the ceiling, nice comfy chair, good size tables; from the decor, to the music, to the food (of course), everything was really good. After much anticipation, I was excited to see a beautiful restaurant being built on Haddon Ave. Hearthside went up and I was ready for it. The restaurant opened and I was shocked it was nearly impossible to get a reservation. Naturally, I checked the Yelp reviews to see what people had to say. I read nothing but incredible things and I was not disappointed leaving after our meal last night. First, I have to start by complimenting the owners on the decor of the space. It's absolutely gorgeous, inside and out! The menu is set up for sharing which is, in my opinion, the most rewarding way to experience a restaurant. My boyfriend and I decided to order one small, two medium, and one large dish. We picked the tuna tartare (small), octopus (medium), a featured rabbit ragu rigatoni (medium), and the skate wing (large). All of the dishes were so delicious and portioned to perfection. We couldn't decide on dessert so we asked our waitress to surprise us with either the carrot cake or the apple fritter. When I saw her come out with a dish in each hand I was like "This place is definitely getting a 5-star review" so here I am. Feel the need to report an amazing dining experience at Hearthside after the four of us all agreed it was the best meal of the year (and it's October!). From the moment we walked in we were impressed. The decor is upscale and classy, yet you get a bit of a beachy vibe given all of the windows were open to let the fresh air in. You could hear people enjoying themselves before we even sat down, and it seemed like everyone in the place was smiling. Overall ambiance added to the positive experience, music included. I had high expectations of the food after hearing positive reviews, and Chef Dom did not disappoint. We literally ate almost everything on the menu (we all shared), and it was all amazing. Not only is the space incredible, but the service is even better! We ordered the kale salad and prawn appetizers, which were amazing, but we had a problem with my husband's entree. I ordered the scallops and they were amazing - perfectly cooked, but his pork was well done and overly charred. Not only did they replace it with a perfect chop but they brought us a complimentary desert - 2 actually! The food was amazing, ambience impeccable and service beyond reproach. I've only tried Hearthside twice, once last year and once recently but would review both visits the same. The ambiance and service are top notch. It's a gorgeous little space and I love watching what's happening in the open kitchen. The octopus dish was outstanding, as was the sea bass. But the pastas are absurdly salty and I'm not someone who is afraid of flavor! Generally I'd like to see them back off of the butter just a little in most of their dishes. Also, as others have noted, it's really off-putting to sit down to a pricey meal and have to pay an additional $5 for bread. read more

While service was excellent the food was extremely salty....to the point where it was nearly inedible. I had the pork, and my wife, the cod. Equally bad. I also had pasta with a pork ragu. We went to Hearthside to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and tried the following dishes: Small Dish - Scallop Special: This was one of the dishes that we would probably skip in the future. While the seafood was fresh and tasty, the dish had been seasoned with some crazy spicy salt which wasn't well distributed throughout the plate. Wish we had also known how spicy this was going to be! Small Dish - Red Snapper Ceviche: Delicious and a nice way to start the meal. Medium Dish - Crab Squid Ink Pasta: Our favorite dish from the meal and one we would go back for for sure! The sauce is a little bit on the spicy side, but everything tastes delicious. Portion size was perfect to share amongst 2-3 people so everyone has a taste. Large Dish - Steak for 2: Cooked to perfection! Loved the mushrooms on the side as well as the crispy potatoes. Wish it had come with some type of sauce on the side or reduction as it's a huge piece of meat. Could definitely be shared by 2-4 people. Dessert - Apple Fritters: Tasty, but probably would skip dessert. Enjoyed the fritters (3 to a portion), but found they were a little undercooked on the inside. Overall a delicious meal and we are looking forward to going back to try other menu items! Thought everything was very reasonably priced and the portions were generous. Probably one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at in NJ. Collingswood is a great town for restaurants but Hearthside is definitely a step above. Starting with the look, feel, and vibe. Feels like you are at a nice restaurant in Philly or NYC vs NJ. We started with the Beef Carpaccio and Kale salad. Both were fantastic. For dinner we had The Orecchiette and Radiatori. The Orecchiette was perfectly cooked with just enough heat from the long hot peppers. The Radiatori was also excellent and cooked perfectly. We finished the Blonde Brownie which was a perfect ending. I made this reservation in September for a party of 6 just to finally see what all the hype was about. I grew up in Collingwood, So needless to say there was a lot of build up, & excitement leading up to our experience. Not to mention looking forward to spending quality time with friends, drinking, laughing, & eating. The decor & ambiance is amazing, cozy, and warm. We were seated right away. It's a BYOB place so obviously we had several different things to drink. Beer, red & white wine. Right off the bat our server seemed annoyed because we were all drinking so many different things. We settle in and start to browse the menu while listening to our server explain the menu(I don't know his name because now that I think about he never introduced himself). The whole experience felt very strict, like there were all these rules to ordering. My GF asked about the small plates, was it enough to share with her hubby to start? Well things just went downhill from there. Mind you we were a party of 6 and since October they have implemented new rules that you are required to order the chefs tasting menu for parties of 6-13 starting at $75 per person. We were ordering A la Carte & we all decided that set the mood for the night. I ordered the octopus which was fantastic & agnolotti. However no better or worse than anything I've had before. The rest of our party also enjoyed the food, but felt like we were on pins & needles when having to interact with the server. The end of the meal got better because I finally said something to the server about his rudeness. Then he turned it around and he brought us the Fritters on him for desert which are to absolutely die for. Other than that HearthSide is meh & over priced, and needs a dose of humble pie. From the beautiful ambiance, to the impeccable service, Hearthside hits it out of the park! Both visits my dining partner and I have ordered a bunch of dishes from their small and medium plates. Ceviche and agnolotti were out of this world delicious BUT the only reason I'm not giving this restaurant 5 stars is the price. $5 for bread and butter seems unreasonable with some of the entree prices being as high as $56. Some of the nicest restaurants in Philly don't make you pay for bread! Otherwise service is exceptional, atmosphere makes you feel like you're in the city, and food is great. However, my friend and I found the desserts really disappointing. We ordered the almond cake and the chocolate babka. I thought the babka was a really unbalanced dessert, too overly sweet.
