Came here for a Thursday round with a noon tee time, and it was my very first time ever playing on a golf course. I was definitely nervous going in, but I ended up having such a great experience. It was surprisingly a bit crowded for a Thursday at noon, but it never felt overwhelming or too slow. As a beginner, I appreciated the overall atmosphere and felt comfortable learning as I went. Even though I didn't get as much practice in beforehand as I would've liked, it still turned out to be a really enjoyable first round. I rented a push cart for $5 and chose to walk instead of using a golf cart, which I actually loved. It was a great way to get some steps in, enjoy the weather, and really take in the course. Bought clubs for my 2 year old and drove down to be turned away because the minimum age is five. It doesn't say this anywhere on the website. My wife took him home and I stayed with our friends. This course is perfect for a beginner golfer. All of the holes were short par 3's, ranging from like 80-140 yards. Came here to work on the short game, but it rained the day before, so I had to tee up the shots on every hole, as it was hard to find grass on each tee box, which mostly consisted of mud or dirt. The starter was rude, and not professional at all. He was pushing us to go, probably because they were already 10+ min behind schedule. My buddy ran to the car to get his glasses, and he made him skip the first tee box, to keep pace of play, yet at the second hole, it was already backed up. Wasn't a fan of that at all. After the initial backup, it started to move better. Greens were nice, and the pace was decent overall. We Finished 18 holes in just about 3 hours. They had bathrooms along the course, which is a plus too! For food I tried the breakfast burrito, and it was delicious. Ordinary my experience at Heartwell has been fine. Since it is a beginners par 3 course, players need a little patience. I understand that. No problem. But I was there last Thursday, tee'd off at around 5:50 PM. And we found ourselves behind a jr league group of little kids, parents and instructors. Literally stopping the pace of play in the middle of the fairway to teach kids how to swing a club. We had been waiting almost half an hour per hole. So, we finally skipped a hole and got in front of them. One of the course employees drove out to us and said we couldn't do that. That this league is here every Thursday and we would have to accept that. So, I said you're right. You have every right to have these leagues come here and learn how to play. But if a regular golfer books a time, before you take their money and send them out onto a course under those conditions, you have to tell them first. I would never had gone out knowing a little kids league was there. They know that. They just wanted to make money. They even gave me a hard time when I got back to the pro shop after we were done. Very sloppy and unprofessional way to manage a golf course. They need some adults there. read more

Tee time was 1:30, finished the front 9 at 4:00. Ridiculous. Two group backups on every hole. Our foursome quit after 9 Didn't have 5 hours for this par 3 course. Two groups ahead of us was a foursome with a girlfriend (5) They only had 3 clubs they were sharing and a box of golf balls. They let them out to play. Definitely need to space out the teetimes and maybe get a Marshall. I know that sounds funny. Absolutely horrible. First time I quit after 9 in 35 years. It's a fun par-3 golf course, though a bit crowded at times. The price for a bucket of balls are reasonable. Always backed up because they try to oversell the tee times. Charge you anyways if your fourth can't make it to the tee time. Greedy management that puts no time or money back into the course care. Heartwell is a sweet short course my husband has always enjoyed playing when we visit Long Beach. The staff are friendly and the grounds are quite lovely. This time I went with him to be sure he was OK since he was recovering from a head cold. Sure enough, by the time we had walked to the 8th tee he was having a hard time maintaining his balance. He collapsed onto a bench while I went to the Pro shop to get a cart to bring him off the course. Isaiah, who is part of management was amazing. He drove the cart to get my husband, loaded him and the golf bag, carried him back to the clubhouse and called a cab for us. Isaiah made sure everything was OK with us right up to the point when we left, going the extra mile by carrying my husband in the cart to the cab out front. We were so impressed with the care he gave us. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Heartwell to anyone wanting a good experience golfing. Thank you Isaiah. read more

This is a great 3-par course. Not extremely challenging, but it has its holes that can be tough if you're a little off! Play the tenth short. Don't want to hit into traffic! I got to experience this course for the first time last week on a date with a woman who just started golfing this year. So, it was fun for the date, and it was a great way to show each other who we really are in challenging situations. I would recommend this 10 out of 10 times. Anyway, it also has a nice restaurant with many different choices of food, as well as nice chipping and putting greens. The only downfall to this course is the driving range. Really need to upgrade the distance markers so it is easier to gauge your distances, if that is what you are working on practicing. But other than that, a great place to spend a couple hours with friends family or even a date. A well manicured course!! read more

This has always been my favorite small Golf Course --friendly, well run,and comfortable for people who aren't that great or just love to practice shorter holes, but recently they're short staffed, ball machine for the driving range isn't working properly. They are planning too many activities in one day and having to squeeze everybody together on the tee times. Course bathrooms are messy and the one I used had pee on the floor. I'm sure it is a bureaucratic problem in Long Beach that makes it a low priority,but all of us who love the Golf Course miss the smooth easy fun of it. The greens are fine. The fairways are great so maintenance of that is good, but the tires are flat on the golf carts and it's just little stuff like that. It's just not up to PAR! It is unfortunate I feel compelled to do this but I hope in doing so I put the rest of the public on notice of unequal and discriminatory treatment by an employee here. I am unaware of her name but she is the elder Caucasian woman who checks players in. I've had several unpleasant interactions with her that I brushed off and attributed to her personality just being unpleasant. Today was more than just an unpleasant interaction. My group of 4 checked in at 1:09 for our 1:08 T time reservation. For context, I am a Black man and my other three mates were people of color. This employee told me because I checked in at 1:09 she would not let us T off. When I asked why, she responded because we did not check in 15 minutes before our T time and that the course was backed up. I went outside and asked players waiting how long they'd been waiting and they said about half an hour. Thus, I don't see why the course being backed up weighed in favor of refusing us on the course. Had we checked in 15 minutes prior to our T Time, we simply would have just been waiting in line with everyone else. Moreover, we were not walk ons. Our space was reserved as are most so the course is aware of how many people to expect. The next issue is more concerning. After discussing with the group the situation, I went back inside to see if there was anyway we could get in line with the players already waiting. At this time it's 1:14pm. While I'm waiting to speak to the employee, she is checking in a group without issue. After we were refused the opportunity to get in line for our reservation, I asked this group what time their T time was scheduled for. Their response - 1:16pm. What does this mean? This group also failed to check in 15 minutes before their T time but were allowed to join the wait while my group was refused the opportunity to join the wait despite checking in before this group. These four individuals were all Caucasian. I don't know why this employee refused me and my group the opportunity to play but let this group who checked in after us and also late for their T time play. If the employee felt justified in refusing us the opportunity to play, then the next group should have been denied their T time as well. I really HATE to make this about race. But what other reason did this employee have for treating two groups who both checked in outside the 15 minute window differently? It's disheartening to have to sit with thoughts of why this employee treated us this way. I am a lifelong resident of Long Beach. I graduated from LB State and own a home in the city. I also am a public servant. I've been a Players Club member for over two years. It is a pity that there are people like this employee who work for the public and treat people in a disparate manner. Maybe her attitude and the way she treated us would be more acceptable on a private course. This was definitely not anything I felt would happen at a public course like Heartwell in Long Beach read more

The course layout is nice and easy to flow through. Took our group of 3 around 2 and half hours to play through walking. Greens are well kept but there was some maintenance on the tee boxes causing a majority to be pushed closer to their respected holes. There was a rude asian worker with a stubble beard and a camo hoodie that works in the clubhouse. I had a simple question and he gave off the worst attitude ever. He made it a difficult time just for simple question. I had to ask some folks in the parking lot for answers to my question and they also added that the employees here can be a-holes at times. I haven't played the course since it's a par 3 and I generally just play full courses but I have been to the practice range many times. The range gets busy. It's a decent range though with clear markers and a high net, etc. The range balls are typical hard as rocks. The mats are fairly worn down. But they do have a grass range on certain days of the week. The putting green and chipping approach area are nice. The chipping area is a little small though. The pro shop is fine and the few times I go inside they have been friendly. read more

Great course and diving range. Near the 605 freeway I'm definitely not a avid golfer but went with my family for a party of 3. We had a 3pm tee time on a Sunday that we booked in advance with 2 golf carts. Came out to about $30 per person. Course was very easy for beginners. All par 3 holes and the course seemed very well kept. 18 holes took us about 3 hours. They also have rollers available as well. Staff and facility does abide by covid regulations. Masks required in common areas and only cart sharing if same household. Will definitely come back here to work on my game. read more

I play here often - great par 3 course - On weekends it can be backed up a bit because the majority of people are walking and there may be some new people out there working on their game. I have read some negative comments on "the older lady" in the pro shop - I don't understand them - She has always been pleasant when interacting with me - she even remembered my name even though I had not golfed there for several years and even remember my friend who used to golf with me. I have never had a negative experience with her. People have to remember she is just following rules - so if you arrive late for your tee time - or if you show up way early and want to check in - if she says NO to you - remember - she is an employee - she does not set the rules. And I have to say a great word about Richard - the starter on 1st tee - He gave me a tip today that helped me shave many strokes off my game - and he always has a smile on his face. read more

Really enjoyed playing here for the first time. It's always a good time on Par 3 courses. Less stressful compared to long courses. It was a little busy went on a Sunday morning. Should take 2.5 hrs average but this time course it ballon to 3.5 hrs. Thank god I brought beers with me lol. All the holes are fun. Definitely can get lots of pars here and hopefully a birdie or 2. First time here shot +14. Grass was nice. Greens were soft and didn't run fast(8am tee time) after the round bought my usual breakfast burrito and it was yummy. My son turn me on to this course, he has been playing golf a lot longer then me so I'm learning some thing from him. The staff was very helpful and as she assist us in getting a cart and balls, a bucket of balls will run you about $12.00,the shop inside is really clean plus neat, there also is a restaurant on the with a patio. This is a 18 hole par 3 course, we play a short course, there is a lots of trees and shaded areas,slopes here as well, a few water areas with pretty green grass. You pay full price but they know dam well there is no way you can even do 18 unless you start at 6 am there are 2-3 groups in front of you at each hole. If u start at noon you can MAYBE get 9 holes. We went there to practice and noticed the driving range was almost packed around 12. Wow!!! Lots of people are there.... The large bucket is $12. We didn't like the club house. But they have a great deal for the fees, a large bucket, and a cart. The monthly member fee is 41.99 to pay cheaper for tee fees and use 5 locations in Long Beach. Real Deal!!!
