I love taking the train into Heathrow. It's the most simple and sometimes quickest way to get from deep in London. It all depends on your flight time. Security is a breeze and there are plenty of charging stations and seats in terminal 3. Food options are adequate. Not as many options as I have found at other airports. In fact there seems to be more options to shop at high end stores then restaurants. read more

Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport has nothing on this massive airport. It is really amazing how nothing disastrous ever occurs here. Planes are constantly taking off or landing, and of all sizes. If you are a plane enthusiast, or just want something to pass the time, this is where you want to do it. JFK and LAX in the United States are the closest thing to Heathrow (LHR) and even then I do not think they compare. Heathrow is just a marvel. It is also easy to get to downtown London from Heathrow without having to use an Uber. The Tube offers service at the airport on the Elizabeth Line (the locals call it the Lizzie Line). There is also a high speed train that can take you to Paddington station in about 15 minutes. I give it three stars because it is quite a walk to get to the luggage claim, and customs does move slow and it is a little confusing. Thankfully I had nothing to declare so I just moved along right after I got my luggage. Phew! I feel exhausted just writing this review. This airport will do that to you. read more

Totally depends on your flight situation and time of flight but I she. Had excellent and not so excellent experiences at Heathrow over the years. However I wouldn't fly in or out of London through any other airport. But biggest tip for tourists. He's the tube is fast and cheap but you also aren't guaranteed a lift (elevator) or escalator. You could have stairs, narrow, winding staircases...which can get tricky quickly. You may get lucky with escalators but even that can be difficult if alone or with kids or lots of luggage. My husband loves learning how to use new subway systems and he learned this very hard lesson this past trip and in his words "never again" so do you self a favor and hire a car, taxi or Uber. Just plan to budget for it because it does make a huge difference read more

Pretty clean. Pretty good signage. Helpful employees. Air traffic seemed to be handled well, there was no circling or delay.

Quality/Quantity - We flew American Airlines - plenty of agents, so the line moved quickly. Security (TSA) also opened more gates/lines when we got there. Unfortunately the lines moved slowly, not because of lack of gates but due to picking the line with inexperienced travelers. This poor family of 4 with so many carry-on luggages took forever just trying to get all their stuff onto the X Ray belt. Oh, and the mom did NOT take out her liquids, and of course she had a few bottles in each bag... She ended up with like 4 zip lock bags, minus the one bottle over 3 oz that was confiscated. A decent amount of food & drink choices, I believe 33 options, see pictures. I feel that many of my pictures did NOT get uploaded, as I write this there seems to be some missing pictures, sorry. Atmosphere - Open 24 hours. Easy bus ride to the airport from our hotel. Signage and directions were also easy to follow. Overall the airport was not too crowded. Plenty of windows with natural light. Paid lounges at each terminal, see website. Free wifi, I did not use it. Service - The team member at the gate gave us more accurate info than the greeter. Probably more international experience. Runway delay - Pilot did a great job communicating delays and reasons. Price - Depends on where and who you are flying with. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 1946, being the busiest Britain airport, and more importantly, it did not feel that busy. read more

One of the great airports in the world. I had last been at EGLL since the late 70's so for me this was an entire new airport. Heathrow is the second busiest airport int he world for international travel. It was mind boggling to me the amount of traffic I saw both moving on the ground, parked, and in the air in the 5 hours I was there. As a bonus the bus system that takes you from terminal to terminal runs at the ramp level so for an AvGeek its heaven. As with any review of a major airport it is really dependent on the day you arrive and if there are delays or nightmare security issues. In my case there was none. read more

For the love of all that's holy, what has happened to the Heathrow airport?! I used to absolutely adore the Heathrow airport. I loved the hustle and the bustle, the restaurants were upscale, and there were so many services. It felt like you could live in the airport and not miss out on the thing. So much has changed and not for the better. The Queen's terminal is a hot mess. It's become this long, exaggerated connection between landing and going through customs, and inevitably getting to a connecting flight. Long gone are the restaurants and services, and now it's just a lengthy horrible walk. It was early enough in the day when we arrived at the airport, that it should've been clean instead of littered with garbage everywhere. Escalators and elevators were shut down, some of the moving walkways were shut down, all of which just added to the time it took to walk-through this horrible maze. The Heathrow airport is no longer my top list of comfortable airports. read more

This airport is aweful and crazy busy. We had a tight layover (1hr 45min) and had to transfer from terminal 3 to terminal 5. You have to take a bus to the other terminal. The buses arrive every 6-10 minutes and the ride is at least 10 minutes. We had Fast Track which I mistakenly thought was like PreCheck. It is nothing like PreCheck. The line is slightly shorter but you go through the same security. We were rushing so we missed the area for putting liquids into a separate bag. They had some bags at the security area so we did our best to separate as fast as we could. We missed a bunch of stuff since we were not planning to have to sort through all of our carryon luggage. I got pulled for the most thorough pat down I have ever had in my life. The lady security guard felt me up three times before letting me through. Then my bag got pulled because we forgot to take out my perfume and my husband's cologne. I tried to ask her to just throw them out so we could go and not miss our flight. She could not give us our bag until she ran it through again. Finally, we got our luggage and started sprinting through the airport. There are multiple escalators and long hallways between security and our gate. Luckily there were multiple other people on our flight from Charlotte so we made it in time. The flight ended up leaving about 20 minutes late. Our return flight was slightly better since I had separated our liquids in case we needed them separate in Bangalore. When we arrived in Heathrow, we were able to stay in terminal 3. I was not expecting to have to go through security. We had purchased multiple bottles of Indian whiskey in Bangalore. Heathrow security had to open all of the duty-free bags and run each bottle through a special machine, then repack them. Our layover was 2 hours and ended up being tight. Section C security was closed so we had to go to section B for security and then back to section C for our flight. Again, the flight was delayed so we made our flight in plenty of time. read more

literally so freaking stressful we missed our flight because of train maintenance and getting redirected. Then we get to airport. We check our bag wait in line and then go to scan our passport to get into security. They wouldn't let us in because it was 30 to 45 minutes before plane was leaving which yes maybe that is on us but it's our first time traveling out of country so we didn't know how the trains worked or that there was shut downs for maintenance for the Piccadilly line, but it's just the back of the asking for help and getting an answer to actually accomplish. Something is so difficult you ask one person for help and they send you to somebody else and then they send you to somebody else and then they give you a number to call but then nobody picks up. Overall a terrible experience here. My incoming flight was late and security decided to individualy check everything in my backpack after it cleared the scanner. That made me late for my next flight which the gate agent closed the gate early despite the flight crew offering to wait. Spent two hours trying to get rebooked and switched to another terminal. Shopping at Heathrow is always an incredible experience with WH Smith, Burberry, Prada, Church shoes and plenty of British and international brand options. Heathrow Airport is used by over 89 airlines flying to 214 destinations in 84 countries. It has four passenger terminals (numbered 2 to 5) and a cargo terminal. I will say...don't take the Heathrow train...just take the Tube. We bought tickets for the Heathrow train to take us to our destination...I scanned mine and went through and my friend hadn't yet but was right behind me and we were told our train got cancelled. when I tried getting a refund. Worst. Airport. EVER. If you can help it, DO NOT book flights with a stopover at this airport! I had a flight that arrived a bit early but we weren't allowed to debark because they didn't have a gate available until well after the arrival time, almost an hour later. Those passing through had to run to catch their flights while others complained they already missed their flight. Had my stopover not been for 5 hours, I might have missed my flight as well. The boarding pass only listed the terminal, not the gate. When I inquired about that, I was told the gate would not be assigned until an hour before the flight. I had to catch a train to get to that gate and by the time I arrived, the last group was already boarding. Super inefficient scheduling for a major airport. It's no wonder their satisfaction rating (shown on their screen at the waiting area) is less than 5/10. Finally, to add insult to injury, this airport didn't even carry the Cadbury Flake chocolate bar. :( So disappointing! Definitely avoid this airport unless England is your final destination or you're transferring to a cruise ship. read more

Security is insanely slow and strict, and they make it even slower by forcing everyone to re-pack their liquids in a ziplock bag (thankfully, we had checked our bags so did not have to deal with this but there was a huge crowd of people just repacking their things at security). I had some concerns about this airport-- both from people who were here and from a show I watch about this airport on YouTube. However, I would say this is one of the nicest and easiest airports I've encountered. Once you get in line, they scan your passport and you make your way to drop your bags. Once you drop your bags, they scan the passport again and give you the boarding pass. This is slightly different process than America, but it was smooth. At the next point you're provided with a clear bag to place ALL liquids in. They put. A huge amount emphasis on that. It doesn't matter the size, they want all liquids in that clear bag and once that is completed, you go through the security check. Many folks here are flagged which you then have to wait for the staff member to put the wand past your things. It was odd because my coat went in the flagged line, but the pockets were empty. The staff member quickly let me take my coat and go. The shops here accept Euros, which is a huge help. Because before I left Paris to London. I had some leftover money and the money exchange was basically going to rip me off. I decided to get a few bottles of liquor to take back to the US Overall, nice staff here and the process was very quick at this airport. Looking forward to my next trip! read more

I like Heathrow. I've been through Heathrow many times, and never had an issue. Not with luggage, security, customs, immigration, personnel courtesy, or even delayed flights that I can recall. Most times, Heathrow was the final destination, but I've also connected through Heathrow. Like everything else in London, it can feel crowded here, but that makes the whole trip consistent doesn't it. Parts of the airport can feel slightly dated but whatever. London's Tube also conveniently runs to Heathrow. I've stayed at the airport Hilton a couple of times and it's a mighty fine though expensive Hilton, especially breakfast! read more

It's a big, beautiful airport. There are some great shops you can look through while you're waiting. They're strict about liquids you're carrying, you must have prescriptions. It takes some time to go through security if you don't have your liquids in the bag they provide. There are some great people working there. I liked the Pret a Manger. There's huge windows so you can see outside and see the planes. It's not always like that in many airports. I've just been to Terminal 2, the Queen's Terminal. read more

We had an amazingly easy transit through Heathrow after arriving early am on a red eye flight. Customs process was seamless. Scan passport, face camera and voila, welcome to London. Very easy to access Central London via Underground or (the way more expensive) Heathrow Express. Restroom areas were plentiful and baggage claim was quick for us. Signage for taking the train to baggage claim could have been clearer-otherwise it's a bit of a walk albeit with some moving walkways along the way. Departing in the am it was much more crowded, but, again, getting through security was unproblematic and there are tons of places to do so last minute shopping or to grabs bite before a flight. Importantly, Bathrooms seemed to be frequently checked and cleaned. A lot better than many airports we've been to. read more

1.250 stars. Truly one of the worst airports in the world. I cannot believe how inefficient and terrible this place is for being one of the busiest places for international travel. My partner and I have flown in and out of Heathrow (always on connecting flights) 7-8 times in the last 3 months and every time it has sucked and sucked bad. All connecting passengers have to go through security again in their next terminal which is truly the worst security experience I have ever had. We tried both the fast track version (for first and business class passengers) and the regular security and both were terrible. Basically when you leave your flight with luggage that has already been screened by your departure airport, you have to do the whole thing again except worse. Liquids must go in a plastic bag now, and there is lots of conflicting information like signs say laptops come out when they want it actually in the bag. They have probably a billion scanners which would make you think things were fast, but no, it is the slowest bag scan security experience possible. Plan on spending minimum 30-45 minutes in the security line (our last time was an hour) as seemingly 80% of peoples belongings through the scanners were flagged and had to be hand examined by staff. If someone's left a hand sanitizer in their big purse, or someone has some face cream in their toiletry kit and forgot to put it in the plastic bag, it gets screened. If there is a powder medication in your bag you get hand screened. This clogs up the line for waiting passengers to an astronomical degree. Again this is for all carry on luggage that was previously cleared by a previous airport. Now I understand the desire for extra security but this is extremely onerous and very very not useful. The planes that were carrying this potential contraband are literally landing at your city/country/airport that you are trying to keep safe. So if it was OK to have on board at an arriving flight why are you so scared of security that you are hand screening 80% of luggage that is literally going to another plane in your airport. There is no access from outside the airport to these connection terminals so there is no contamination of security. Let's talk about another terrible thing at this airport--transfer between terminals. We've had to go from terminal 3 to terminal 5 and vice versa and you have to wait for a crappy bus to take you! This is a known defined route. Why are there no trains or trams or trolleys? A bus driver must get off the bus to open the secured doors with a door attendant and then has to get back on and off with every terminal change. More time suck for a time sensitive journey. And then after you get to the next terminal you have to go through the aforementioned security I explained earlier. Hhahaha it's comically bad. If your connection is less than 1h30m long there is a good chance you will miss your connecting flight at this airport. read more

This is a decent airport. It's not the best and could definitely improve though. There's no seating in the baggage claim, which is a bit of an issue with how long baggage can take to show up. The staff is fairly friendly. There's limited signage in some parts of ghetto airport when it comes to arrivals and the pickup area has a problem with crowding. The TSA experience can be really bad at times. Not as bad as other big city airports like LAX, but it could definitely use some work. read more

This is the strictest airport I've ever experienced when it comes to liquids. Every single drop of liquid must be in their designated plastic bag and you're only allowed one small plastic bag per person when going through security. They had me put a rogue daily contact that was in my purse in the bag, as there were a few drops of eye saline in there. They also confiscated an almost-empty toothpaste that was clearly under the amount. Be ready and know exactly what's in your bag before going through! Other airports have been much more relaxed with those things. There are some great restaurants here though, including a Gordon Ramsay spot. It's a busy airport, but once you're through security, you can take a deep breath and enjoy the options. read more

The line is sooo long that you'll be standing g for at least 30-45 minutes. Yes, you read that right. As with any airport, be sure you arrive early if you're not familiar with it. There are plenty of signs to locate your gates. The central area has tons of shopping from both high and into touristy souvenirs there are places to eat and several airlines have club lounges. Once you make your way towards your gate, there is nothing so be sure you eat and shop early and then make your way toward your gate about 30 to 45 minutes before boarding. read more

I don't recent trip to London, I found Heathrow airport to be quite easy to navigate through. The signage were plenty, guiding all the travelers to their connecting flights or baggage claim, customs, terminals , rideshare and metro. The airport was very crowded with influx of individuals in every single corner. There were plenty of shops and stores and eateries throughout the terminals. There were also many different booths for currency exchange and traveler assistance, tours etc. Overall, a relatively easy airport to get around, yet one of the most busiest in the world. read more

Heathrow Airport is gigantic and kind of a mess. Our latest experience in Terminal 3 wasn't terrible, but definitely would not put this on my favorite airports list. Pros: -Timeslot. Heathrow is testing out a new timeslot program that allows you to pre-reserve your spot in the security line. Note, this is currently just applicable for a few airlines. We utilized this and it saved us a significant amount of time! -Traveling to the airport via tube is so easy! We hoped on the Piccadilly line and had a straight shot to and from the airport and London's city center. Cons: - The airport structures the terminal like a giant bullpen. You wait in a large area with shops and restaurants and only find out what gate you are departing from when it's time to board. It feels like herding cattle. The area is so congested (as are the people) and it wasn't a great experience. On top of that, the restaurant options were fine, but not great. - We were notified of our gate 15 minutes before boarding and made the long journey over. It's really a strange arrangement and the waiting area at the gate was so much more peaceful. I wish we'd gotten assigned earlier to get to wait there in peace. - If you're a priority pass member, know that you will have to prebook to access the lounge. The lounges fill up quickly, but it would definitely be worth it given how horrible waiting in the pen is. - There's one main restroom area in the terminal. It gets super crowded! Overall, this airport is built for the masses. While in many airports, you have the ability to sneak away to find a quiet spot if you look hard enough, you won't find that here. read more
