I took my well-behaved pup into the customer area -- well away from any food -- to order. When the person working the counter said that dogs weren't allowed, I tied my dog up outside. The dog was barking a little, because she is just a puppy. The horrible waitstaff person still would not take my order. She said that the dog was too much of a nuisance. I asked for the owner, and she said that the owner wasn't available. I asked for the owner's number and she gave me the card that just has the store's number. I called it and the same woman answered the phone. She passed me to the other woman whom I had also been talking to, who claimed to be the owner. I could tell it wasn't, I recognized the voice. We were excited to try this bakery as it seemed like there were a lot of really delicious looking French pastries, which are honestly hard to come by in the Austin area. We came on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy. The pastries are priced fairly high, so I had high expectations. We got the egg and cheese croissant, a chocolate croissant and a passionata dessert. The croissants were crisp, laminated overall well, and I always appreciate when the chocolate in a pain au chocolat is not just an unmelted strip in the middle. This one had decadent, nice and melty dark chocolate that was lovely with the crisp croissant. The egg and cheese became fairly soggy, which is expected with the moisture you're adding, but just as a heads up. The passionata is quite sour, which my husband enjoyed, but I felt it could use another crunchy or crispy texture, as the base becomes quite soft depending on how long the pastry has been out. The actual place has a few tables available if you want to stay in and enjoy your pastries, off a busy street so no cute views or anything but I would come again and stay for a bit for sure. Not too busy on a Saturday around 10. Recommend trying at least once, but it's definitely still not my #1 of the few French patisseries in Austin, maybe makes the top 5! read more

I ordered a custom birthday cake from this place with the highest hopes. All sounded great, they were lovely on the phone, and very nice and helpful at pickup. Unfortunately that is all that was good. The cake was lopsided, which okay, whatever, pictures can be taken and that could be hidden -- but cake had clearly collapsed and they pieced it back together. Beyond that, the frosting had almost no taste. It was supposed to be buttercream was just a thick tasteless pastry. Worst of all, the cake was so incredibly dry it was not edible. The furniture is set up ideally for 2 person sit down though, so if you have a big group of friends or family it'll be hard to accommodate all of them. Here's what I ordered: Almond croissant Very good and crunchy with enough filling to satisfy your craving. Not as crumbly as I would like but still pretty good. Rose petal pistachio cake: This one was a bit of a disappointment for me. Tasted very sweet and also artificial. The sponge is also very wet and mushy. I ordered an Americano coffee. It's not bad but not memorable either. I'd say a decent cup of coffee. What knocked down another star is the fact that even if you sit down and dine in, they don't have dishes, plates, or reusable utensils. So it's all plastic utensils and packaging for everyone which is a bit wasteful and ruins the dining experience. read more

This bakery sits on the southside of Parmer Lane next to a couple of other businesses. After reading many reviews, I thought I would fill in a few gaps and add additional photos. It is a very clean modern establishment with about 12 parking spaces out front. I was surprised this bakery was not open earlier than 7:30 AM for breakfast. At least they are open seven days a week, but I think they could take advantage of all the early morning commuters if they opened an hour earlier. This business seems to employ several people most of whom are in the spacious kitchen behind the counter. One thing that you should also know is that this is a Halal business, which means no pork products whatsoever, so forget about the ham, egg and cheese croissant. They do have turkey as a meat option. I had the egg and cheese croissant, which was fantastic as far as the croissant went, but the eggs did indeed lack some seasoning. It would've been nice to have a salsa option. If you decide to dine in, they do have some indoor tables and chairs, however, they are designed for short term comfort. If the weather is nice, you should head out their back door where they have lots of outdoor seating that is semi-covered. They also have modern clean single person bathrooms. Once you make your purchase with a credit card, you will be presented with the tip screen which starts at 10% or you could drop some cash in the jar. I have to admit, the quality of their croissants and baked breakfast goods are of better quality than you'll find at Central Market or Whole Foods! Their prices are a little bit above average, but then at that level of quality you'd expect that. One other Yelper did point out that they do use a lot of Styrofoam and plastic containers which is true. And yes, they do have a coffee bar to complete your breakfast which I did not partake of on this visit. If Coffee is not your choice, they have two other cold drink coolers pictured below. Very confused by all the high ratings for Heaven's Bistro Bakery. First of all, the poor accessibility needs to be addressed. Who closes at 5pm every day? Most bakeries in the Austin area close at 8pm, so closing at 5pm basically shuts out an entire demographic of working people who would actually give you business. Second, not everything that looks pretty tastes good and their pastries, cakes, and breads are a prime example of this. Also, tiny portions for the price. I get they're going for the "not too sweet" preference, but I was disappointed with every bland bite of the 6 different items I sampled from here. Three examples: Kouign-Amann - Too soft and soggy, when it's supposed to be light, flaky, and crispy. This factor is wholly dependent on the kind of fat used and the temperature at which it is incorporated into the flour. Chocolate Croissant - Probably an unfair comparison, having just visited France the week prior and eating tons of these before coming to Heaven's Bistro for the first time, but the texture and taste was off. Blackberry Lavender Cheese Cake - Certainly "aesthetic" and "on-trend" but does not deliver good flavor payoff. Would not recommend nor return. read more

I didn't even know this place existed despite passing by so many times, but while I was nearby at the hospital and looking for early morning coffee, I stumbled across this bakery and wow was I amazed. It's a cute shop with a huge assortment of breads and pastries as well as great coffee. I just got an iced vanilla latte and it was honestly one of the best I've had in Austin. Plenty strong, just sweet enough, not too much ice either to dilute it. Everything you want in a latte with a great price tag to boot (especially given how expensive everything is nowadays...). First, their pastry displays are great. You can clearly see everything and items are clearly marked. The atmosphere is pleasant and a layout that you would find at any typical bistro. The establishment is very clean. The service was fast and friendly. The gentleman behind the counter had fantastic product knowledge. I asked him if the pastries I was interested in contained any nuts as I have an allergy to them. He knew right away I would be safe. The pastries we enjoyed were the Berry Roll, Chocolate Croissant, Cream Cheese Brownie, and Lemon Cookie. My wife really enjoyed the berry roll which isn't my thing. The cream cheese brownie was very sweet so be prepared. The lemon cookie had an acquired taste when you first put it in your mouth, but it finishes nicely with the lemon icing. Heaven's Bistro is probably my favorite North ATX bakery. It is small and cute. They specialize in baked goods--baguettes, pastries, croissants, cakes, kolaches, sandwiches, you name it! They are also halal, and their desserts definitely pass the Asian Aunties' 'not too sweet' test. I have a lot of faves from here, and from what i understand you can't really make a wrong choice here! My favorites include the tiramisu (strong espresso flavor!), pistachio rose cake (yummy!!!), berry roll cake (amazed at how much strawberry they can pack into a slice), passionfruit croissant (super passionfruity cream puff-like filling), and their brisket and chicken panini sandwiches. Note that their lunch panini sandwiches also come with a nice, refreshing side salad with balsamic vinaigrette! The croissants are probably the best you can find in all of Austin. The drinks were made to order. One downside is that I thought that the items were a little overpriced. We got two drinks and two baked goods and we paid over $20 with tip. We were searching for some cheesecake which they do have however, they did not have the plain one. It was Oreo and a berry one. I am more of a fan of a rich creamy cheesecake. This one has a more dense dry texture, I was not a fan but it had a good flavor. However, I did get their iced Affogato caramel cloud coffee ( honesty I can't remember the name I just know it was delicious) it was not to sweet, strong, creamy...:. and it was one of the best coffee drinks I ever had.
