This is my favorite neighborhood/family oriented restaurant, so it will be crowded. I always order the "Platón". Always delicious! I've noticed they always have several servers for such a small, which means the service is always good. Music on Thursdays and Saturdays. So plan ahead. With restaurants closing all the time in Austin "Hecho" seem to have survived and thrived . I think the reason for that is due to the great food, atmosphere and staff. Rock on Hecho!!! read more

This is my favorite place to go for great food and homemade Margarita, no mixes, fresh limes! The bacon rapped shrimp is the best and the slow cooked pork, just as good as Fonda San Miguel, but south and cheaper!! read more

My husband really loves their "Cochinita pibil". But I think that is all about it. The food is OK. The service needs to improve... the last time we went, the lady let us wait for about 15 to 20 minutes to get our order! Plus I think we are the customers and we deserve to feel welcomed! Great happy hour deals. Half priced appetizers? Get some ceviche! Once or twice it's been a bit skimpy on the seafood, but it's always fresh tasting. The menu resembles, somewhat, interior places like Polvo's and Curra's. Lots of seafood cooke din banana leaves, and traditional variations (you might say original versions) or standard Mexican fare like fajitas. My recommendation is to just order something you've never had before. You can spend a good chunk of change if you get a few drinks and whatnot. Still, prices are average. Service is always exceptional here. Very friendly and responsive. Top notch. It's a bit small and cramped, and it can get quite warm. Live music on occasion. It's a cool little place, off the beaten path location and menu-wise, and definitely worth your checking it out. read more

Recently we received a community book with advertisements and coupons for local businesses. We are always looking for new great Mexican food. We tried Hecho in Mexico. The restaurant is small but intimate and the staff is really friendly. I had the spinach and mushroom quesadilla and the tortilla soup. The quesadilla was delicious and the soup was okay, but it had a lot of chili powder that overwhelmed all of the other flavors. My boyfriend had the pork that was steamed in banana leaves and it was really good, but very small portion. We were glad to have the coupon because they are pricey. This and the fact that our waiter had band aids all over his hands (that kind of grossed me out) is the reason I am not giving four stars. read more

I heard about this place from my server at Cerranos!!! It's got amazing ceviche. The chips and salsa are ok...the salsa is kind of bland. I ordered the puerco pibil as homage to Once Upon A Time In Mexico. It was a beautiful presentation but needed more flavor. I give this place 4 stars because the nice hostess/waitress was good conversation and gave me a top shelf shot of tequila because my food was a little on the cold side. She was nice. read more

first time at this place. man, why haven't i found this sooner? their mole sauces (yes, they have different kinds) are delicious! I love this authentic food. It's one of my favorite places to go and get a great meal or drinks. It's small so fills up fast. They have some awesome drinks and wonderful deserts (quatro leche). Weekends get busy around 7 and you can expect a half hour wait. It's worth it though. read more

We went there on Saturday night and it wasn't packed. I know from previous visits that Sunday afternoon is crazy busy so I was glad to not have to wait. The service was great, and so was the margarita shaker! The food was good, they have a salsa that I could eat all day, but my entree was fantastic! Food was excellent! 5 stars in any book, but the service is the worst. I took my mother for mothers day and 3$ Corona's but when server, Diego, sat us took our drink order and disappeared. I asked 3 times for any server and no one showed up. Finally after 45 mins of waiting the bar tender served us drinks took our order and saved the meal, thank you. This place seems so understated, as its in a strip center. Don't be fooled by outward appearance. Hands down, they have one of the best ceviches in town. I love both versions. Anything that I've ever ordered has been amazing, but we always, always, always order one of each versions of the ceviche. They also have great margaritas that are fresh squeezed lime! I've been back a couple of times, but today I took my mom for Mother's Day 2018 And and I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED. The frozen margaritas, chips, and salsa were good. After that, it all went downhill. We ordered the sampler enchiladas: for each plate, 2 shrimp enchiladas with blanco mole and one chicken enchilada with poblano mole. After much, much, much waiting, our plates arrived with 2 chicken poblano enchildadas and only one shrimp blanco enchilada. Before they were even placed on the table I sent them back. After much more waiting, they sent out two plates with blanco enchiladas and one poblano. It was clear they did not completely remake the plates, as one of the two blanco enchiladas had poblano sauce on the side of it where it touched another blanco enchilada. Still, that would have been acceptable had both plates had shrimp in the blanco enchiladas, but one plate had chicken instead. So now, my mom has her complete meal and I have to wait for a plate. That's just ridiculous on Mother's Day. People come to enjoy a meal together rather than just watch one another eat. They should have taken both plates back and remade them both, but they didn't. The check arrived with the second plate, but by then I was so over it I just wanted to leave. I spoke to the manager and the waitress had not even mentioned the first mixup to her...grrrrrrr. I left a 10% tip (I'm usually a very generous tipper...I start at 20% including the tax and then go upward). The manager, instead of comping a meal, removed the tip! What kind of crap is that? Wait staff work for next to nothing, and even if the waitress made a mistake, the mistake was not all hers, yet she was the only person expected to pay for the mistake. I have to say, I was so disappointed, I just don't know whether I can ever return here. And I went to the bathroom twice while I was there. An overhead light fixture and an over the sink light fixture with 3-bulb capacity but only one bulb anywhere. I felt like I was in a bar at midnight it was so dark in there. Are they trying to hide filth? I dunno, but the bathroom experience was also not a good one. Happy Mother's Day :-( read more

This place is amazing. We have enjoyed several meals here and never had anything we did not love. The quality of the food is outstanding and everything taste fresh and full of flavor. After trying Hecho in Mexico twice for breakfast when they first opened, the jury was still out for me on this place. They were still using the really uncomfortable chairs and tables from Giss' s( the previous owners) and the service was really slow. The menu prices also seemed kind of high for a casual Mexican cafe with no liquor license. I thought I'd give them time. I went today for lunch and was really pleasantly surprised. They have re-done the interior with sleek new banquettes and tables that were very comfortable. There is a full bar with stools for bar seating. My waiter was prompt and courteous and the food came out without a wait. I had gone back primarily because on my first visits I saw they offered Chiles en Nogada-a wonderful dish I hadn't had in years and rarely see on menus. I have to say it lived up to my memories of the dish. The meat filling was both sweet and savory w/ dried fruit and nuts and the cream sauce with spices really pulled all the flavors together. They even had the pomegranate seeds on top. It traditionally has a sauce of walnuts but I couldn't tell in this version but it was delicious nonetheless. I rememberedthe salsa being kind of weird and not to my liking. Today it seemed improved. It is obviously made with some kind of chile but it maybe needs more tomato and less chile. Still a little sour tasting. But definitely better. My only bads were that the room was incredibly cold and the food was not very hot - suffering from the arctic breeze blowing from the air ducts. Can't comment on the drinks as it was lunch and I had stuff to do later. But if you tried this place early on, give'em another shot. It is a lovely little restaurant that focusses on the traditional Mexican cooking rather than Tex- Mex. And it's in Southwest Austin. read more

Visited this place yesterday on a whim--the salsa was awesome and the waitstaff was super friendly and attentive. This is definitely NOT Tex-Mex, but rather authentic Mexican food. Food is seasoned well, and the ingredients are very fresh and not as greasy as traditional Tex Mex restaurants. Its a bit more expensive than Flores down the road, but well worth the extra $ you will spend. I have found my favorite authentic Mexican restaurant in Oak Hill and will be back to visit frequently! read more

We have been here 3 times and our first visit was great (4 star review great) but This place has been lacking service and quality food our last two trips. Everything seems bland recently. The salsa is unique and different in an amazingly good way and the guacamole is terrific! But, The service is lacking due to management not having enough staff on hand. Half price appetizers during happy hour is a plus but when you have 2 waiters and the place is jammed packed you are going to have issues. They need better recipes or cooks. Not Tex-Mex. High qualify, reasonably priced, interior Mexican food. We have been here multiple times in the last few months. Friday nights, crowded and loud with music. Rest of the time (breakfast, lunch, other dinner times), not so crowded - that's a shame. Folks don't know what they are missing. If you want Tex-Mex, which is so prevalent in our fair city, stay away - this is not the place for you. If you want food that is pleasantly presented, with flavors that explode, hurry over. Service can be spotty (picked up on numerous reviews) -just know that before you get there and spend time enjoying great salsa. read more

4.5 stars. Really good food especially for the price. Tacos al pastor is great. Guac is fresh made but not done in front of you...just mentioning incase you were expecting that. Bartender said almost all tequila is 100% agave from Jalisco. Not a big place with about 15 tables with a couple of booths mixed in...the size is a plus in my opinion because even if they packed every table, it would still be possible to have a conversation. First time here. Driven by it many, many times. I now regret driving by it. It was fabulous. Very clean and cute. We were greeted immediately and taken care of like family. The queso was delicious with tortillas and the main meal was extremely good. If you expect TEX-Mex then you might be disappointed because this was very authentic with great flavor. Did I mention how great the staff was?!! The margarita martini was probably the best I've had. Looking forward to not driving by it again. read more

First, I used Dine on Demand recommended on their site for delivery and it took an hour and 40 minutes. I could have been there and back at least 3 times, but I am extremely sick and contagious so there was no going out to get it. Secondly, I ordered chicken tacos that were suppose to have pico de gallo and sauteed veggies on them and it can with lettuce and a slice of tomato. The Caldo Tlalpeno soup was so salty, I barely finished a quarter of the bowl. The only good thing that came of this order was the queso flameado, you really can't mess cheese up though. SUPER BUMMED OUT! The reason I am not giving a 1 star rating, which from the above should be, is because I was there once before and it was great. I will give it another chance but definitely will not be using the Dine On Demand service ever, and will only dine in the restaurant and never take out. read more
