I stopped in the restaurant to pick up dinner on my way home. I have gotten food here before, and it was good. Not so today. I ordered Barbecue Spare Ribs. There were slithers of bone on each one like they had been cut incorrectly. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. When I got home, I sat down to eat. The chicken had NO SAUCE. The chicken was very dry and tasteless. I also told the owner, I did not want rice. I don't like to waste food, and I wasn't going to eat it. It was in the bag. I called to let them know what happened. She told me it was impossible for there to be no sauce. I do NOT appreciate being called a LIAR. I will not eat there again!!! read more

Always a good experience with Heelok! I get delivery and the person delivering is so kind - always calls me on my phone to tell me my food is outside my door- nice contactless yet friendly service. My food is always fresh and delicious. I love their bourbon chicken, scallion cakes & crab Rangoon! Update.... I had the pepper steak today and that was really good. I just wish chinese places would get back to making really fried rice !! This yellow rice is so flavorless I can't even bother with it. If I had known I would have just had white rice ... but the pepper steak was great. Cheese wontons were pretty good too. ... It's one of the only seven meals you can get around the Hospital in Mt Holly. Except pizza and Italian. Not bad. But not great. I was so excited for the black peppered chicken and man this would have been really great if the chicken were fresh. It taste like pre cooked breaded chicken. Leftover chicken which was the downfall to the whole dish. It taste like leftover chicken smothered in pepper sauce. Too bad. I would have loved this otherwise. Wasn't bad though. Just not as great as I wanted it to be. Maybe I can ask for it to be un breaded chicken next time or something. The egg rolls were very salty but didn't have a lot of filling in them. You know we always can tell a great Chinese place based on how well they can make an egg roll.! As for the lo Mein not bad. I asked for extra ginger and garlic. I got the garlic but no ginger. The boneless ribs were okay also but again they had that flavor of being left over. But not as much as the salt and pepper chicken dish. Overall this is an okay place. I would order again if I'm near there just maybe some different items not breaded and no egg rolls. Delivery was faster than the website said too so kudos for that. read more

Decent Chinese food. I always get the Crab Rangoon. There would be times when I would just pickup crab Rangoon from them . Sounds strange but they were amazing. If you order for pickup please know exactly what you want on the phone. The lady talks really fast and wants to know what you want in the first 5 seconds of talking. There's honestly no use in ordering too far ahead of time. They usually don't start most of your order until you arrive there. It's nice to have warm food but sucks to wait longer after ordering 10 minutes ago. read more

Terrible. There really isn't a better word to describe it. The whole experience from ordering to eating. Just terrible. Ordering: I tried to order online for delivery. Minimum order for delivery was $15. My order was $16 and change. Wouldn't let me place the order. Fine, I called in an order for pick up. Phone rang 8 times before it was picked up. In hindsight I should have just hung up there. Woman finally picks up and I state what I want to order. Her- "What was that?" I say it slower and louder. Her- "I'm sorry, what do you want?" I repeated it a second time, even slower and louder. Again, should have just hung up at that point. Her- "Oooh, you mean xx item?" Me- "Yes, that is what I said." Her- "What size do you want?" Me- "Ma'am there are no sizes listed on your menu." Her- "Oh you want the dinner combo?" Me- "Yes." That was literally the only option for that item. Order placed, I go to pick it up. Pick up: Her (presumably the same lady)- "Hello, are you here to pick up?" Me- "Yes" Her- "What did you get?" I can see my order sitting on the counter, it is the only one there. There is no one else in the restaurant and nothing being cooked in the kitchen... I tell her what I ordered. Pay, leave. Eating: Menu item was listed as spicy, there is no discernable spice in any of the food or the sauce. It is completely bland, hardly any flavor at all. The sauce is all at the bottom of the container, not actually on the food. Rice was extremely dry and flavorless. Spring roll was also dry and flavorless. And didn't come with dipping sauce. In fact there was no extra sauces with the meal at all. I checked the menu and apparently I had to order the sauce separately ... and be charged 0.50 cents a piece. I can see not automatically putting sauce in there, but at least ask when the customer orders if they want any sauce, especially if they are ordering something like spring rolls, that usually come with a sauce. And charging for it is absurd. Nowhere else charges for sauce unless you are asking for extraordinary amounts of sauces. That just caps of the completely terrible experience at this place. Will not be eating here again. Ever. Not sure how they managed to get an average of 4 stars. Standards in Mount Holly/Lumberton must be pretty low. read more

Wow, what a disappointment. After reading the glowing reviews I expected a delicious lunch of cashew chicken at work today. I ordered in advance and when I arrived was told that it was almost done. The woman at the counter called into the back and the cook clearly started my order right then. There was no one else in the place. The counter girl then went in the back and I watched her cut up the broccoli and carrots for my dish. She tossed them into the wok the cook was using and 30 seconds later poured it into a container and handed it to me. Needless to say the veggies were raw. There was almost no sauce on the chicken so the whole dish was dry. The worst though was the chicken which had been diced into such small pieces that it was dry and chewy. The worst Chinese food I've had in a long time. When I got back to work, I had a few bites and threw the rest away. Never again. read more

This place is really good. I usually order from down the street. But on a whim, I got delivery from here. Wow I'm pretty happy. I got hot and sour soup. It had jalapeños in it,what a cool plus. We also got fried dumplings, BBQ ribs and the General Tso chicken combo. I asked to have it cooked spicy and it's awesome. The delivery person was very timely and so nice. I will so be keeping this menu they gave me. It was that good. And the nice thing was the delivery person called before she got here. I have little dogs so that was a great thing read more

I very rarely review on Yelp but seeing some of the negative reviews, I felt the need to clear things up. Heelok is the BEST Chinese food I've ever had!! When we need to modify our orders, they're nothing but accommodating. It seems like every time we order there's something extra (General Tso's, Soda, etc) because they happen to be running a special at the time. Well, I just found a new Chinese food place. The food is really good. Crispy when it's supposed to be, just a tiny bit of spice in the foods that are supposed to be a little spicy! Super happy with the food. The people are always super friendly! Pricing is average for a Chinese food place. But average is pretty low so still not a minus. The only odd thing (but not bad) is that even when you dine in, your food is still in Tupperware. I am actually kind of a fan of that though because if I don't finish my food it is already in a take out container. Truth be told I still take the containers home and use them as regular Tupperware. They left a menu on our door, so decided to try them. Menu states orders over $40 free general tso chicken. I even added a note on the order requesting this, however they gave us a 2 liter bottle of soda. When I called them, they said that they stopped doing that because Grubhub charges them 22% (but ordering outside of grubhub I would have received it) There was no fine print anywhere about this. What makes this upsetting is that I placed a $65 order to feed 3 people and the "free" item was to be someone else's meal. I will be sticking with my usual place Kah Wah because even through grubhub you get the free general's chicken with a $40 order. read more

My first order, and first time using yelp to order on-line. Ordered General Tso's Chicken and a Egg Roll. Egg Roll nicely cooked, and not dripping oil like you can find at other places. Very good. General Tso's was very good. The chicken and the sauce complimented each other nicely(( you can adjust the spiciness during your order) Young lady working the register was very nice, and the place looked clean. What a disappointment with this Chinese place, after reading all the reviews and hoping that whoever gave one star review made a mistake. Rude service (not just bad, rude!) They messed up the order and simple apology would solve it, but instead we got the rude treatment. We had a large take out order with variety of dishes and one single dish was a hit. The food is really good. Was made hot and fresh. What really impressed about this place is the above-average customer service. They served a cup of free hot tea. A nice courteous bonus on a cold night. I never had that offered in any other restaurant I've been too. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken with a pint of Wonton soup. And it was delicious. The location deserves a thumbs-up as well. Very easy to find. Right on Rt.38 in the plaza by Quest Diagnostics and Dunkin Donuts. There's more than enough space for parking. A convenient stop on the way home for that after-work meal.The interior is nicely spacious and clean for dinning inside and I like that they have TV. This is my new go-to place for Asian cuisine. Pretty disappointed after reading the reviews. Got the beef and broccoli with pork fries rice and a egg roll combo. Also added some crab rangoon. The beef was chewy and tasted like a very low grade meat. The crab Rangoon was ok. The rice was not cooked all the way. Egg roll was also ok. Delivery took about an hour and a half. I will try a different place next time I want some take out. read more

Very average. Orange beef just one big glop all stuck together, tasted okay. No option to order diet soda when ordering online. I mentioned this in the notes when placing the order, still I received regular Coke. It seems to be getting harder and harder to find a Chinese restaurant.that is trying to kick it up a notch. read more

Eating in or picking up, I have not been disappointed! I personally love the general tsao chicken and lo mein. Hee lok is a great value for the amount of food you get. Heelok doesn't add rice in the large entree containers, like other restaurants, instead they put it in a separate container. Meaning you get more chicken or whatever you ordered. Their staff is great! The food is made to order. The great food and awesome customer service have made this our go to restaurant. read more
