Restaurant tucked away in shopping plaza with Dollar Tree and Smart & Final. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, although with me being Japanese, it felt a little odd to have non-Japanese/non-Asian people greeting me with "irashai-mase!" Atmosphere is nice, they had a pretty tree up for the holidays too. When it comes to the food though, I'm sad to say it didn't live up to my expectations for a restaurant with such high Yelp ratings. I do have to give them credit that they have a lot of unique rolls and their prices are a bit lower than other sushi places. We tried the Katella Roll and overall it was good, but it had WAY too much fake crab in the middle. and not enough of the other ingredients we wanted. We found that to be true with the California Roll as well, and we were surprised there was no cucumber in the California Roll. We had the Teriyaki Chicken Box, which along with CA Roll, included miso soup, salad, mixed tempura, 1 gyoza, 1 egg roll (why at a Japanese restaurant?), rice, and teriyaki chicken. We thought the tempura and salad were good, but the chicken had too many mini bones and fat--we didn't even want to take the rest home. I'm glad they have good business here, but other restaurants have more of what I'm looking for when I go out for Japanese food. read more

Wow! Our new go to for fresh sushi with attention-to-detailing! Beautiful presentations with exceptional table service! Too many rolls to choose from, ask your server for their recommendations, we did and we were not disappointed. WONDERFUL SERVICE!! We we're looking for a place to celebrate one of our friends birthdays, we know she loves sushi and this cute spot is right in town, we called them earlier in the day to ask if we could store our cake while 5 of us had dinner there, they were so excited to help! The staff went above and beyond! They had our table set and ready, they stored our cake, set it up lit candles and helped us out with plates and utensils for the cake, they even set everything up for a perfect surprise! We ordered 6 different rolls and all kinds of small dishes, the food was so good and the constant service was so lovely that we had forgotten about our own surprise! Came in by myself since I was going to meet friends in Monrovia. I saw their ratings so I had to give it a try. The employees are very friendly, attentive and accommodating. I decided to try what I normally have at a sushi bar and enjoyed everything. The last roll was given on the house and it was a little different having sesame oil in it, but was still good. Was disappointed to find a hair inside of my sushi order. Spoke with one of the workers there and they stated that they check the order to make sure it's good to go, clearly not. I suppose this is a hit or miss, spoke with them to see if they could make it right and get me a refund on the roll or receive another roll replacement but instead they told me they would not refund or provide a replacement roll. They said they would look into it and I'm sure they will do nothing. No replacement, no refund, saddened by how they treat frequent customers like this. read more

You know a place uses good ingredients when you come out of a restaurant feeling good about what you ate. Service was lovely, timing was on point, and food was AMAZING!!! We didn't even order any specialty rolls we stuck with the basic spicy tuna and crunch roll, but let me tell you . These were no small little wimpy rolls these were massive can't even fit in your mouth type of rolls. I came here randomly because I was craving some salmon and spicy tuna roll. Boy did they deliver. Not only were the servers attentive and friendly, the food was priced extremely fairly. The fish itself was extremely fresh and delicious, with perfect presentation. Last time I was here, they asked my friend and I to take a photo for their wall, which I found almost endearing. This place cares about their community, and they should thrive in it as the number 1 sushi spot. I also tried their baked salmon belly which melted in my mouth as well as the jalapeno poppers. I really wanted to like this place a lot. I wanted to love it-it's pretty new and I live close by. The nigiri sushi was beautifully presented and good quality cuts. However, the rolls were not that good IMO: we got a CA roll and it was just off. How can a CA roll be bad? The wait staff didn't seem to be quite with it, really slow, but friendly. Lesson learned is that it's called Mikomi Sushi, so definitely stick with the sushi if you dine here. The atmosphere is nice with high ceilings and beautiful lighting and everyone working there is nice, I just found the experience disappointing and regretted that I didn't go to another Japanese restaurant.

On December 6th 2022 I went to heemo for lunch. When I pulled into the parking lot it was a little full, but I found a spot over by AT&T. When I walked into the restaurant it was clean. The waiter sat us down, and we told him our order right away, and he was attentive, and got us our food fast, and if we needed anything he made sure he got it for us. Their soup was full of flavor, the salad was fresh, and the dressing was light, and flavorful. The sushi was amazing. You can tell it's high quality fish, and it was fresh. Each one had a different seasoning. I will be recommending heemo to everyone I know in the Monrovia area. The location is located next to a smart and final, so it's easy to find. I really enjoyed this meal. The fuss was fresh, and I was happy with how generous the portions were. The nigiri were a nice size so it didn't feel like I was just eating a lot of rice with a tiny piece of fish on top. The sushi plate had a good variety with both nigiri and a roll, soup and salad on the side. We also had oysters, which were fresh and nicely presented over ice with lemon, and garnishes. Between the oysters and the sushi, there was plenty to enjoy, and the presentation made the meal even nicer. The service was great too, which always makes a difference. I also thought the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the freshness and the amount of fish we got. We finally got the chance to try Heemo Sushi, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The quality and presentation reminded us a lot of Ichima in Pasadena, which has been one of our longtime favorites. We ordered the bento box, and it was fantastic. The portion size was generous, and everything tasted fresh and well-balanced. What really stood out was the tempura -- the batter was incredibly light and crispy, even more so than Ichima's.
