Heirloom Bakery is the perfect breakfast place for me and my bf because it offers his choice of burritos and egg plates and my choice of granola and oatmeal. Plenty of parking and indoor/outdoor sitting options. Gets very busy so plan to either wait, take it to go or come early. We had the egg sandwich and the oatmeal with fruit/brown sugar/raisins and both were satisfying. This place has something for everyone as well as good quality coffee. I took one star off because their system to place your order is a mess and very slow. The guy even used a calculator to total our meal AND the waitress delivered the food to our table before we were done paying which means that the back of the house is working faster than the front of the house. read more

Heirloom is our go to neighborhood restaurant. It is an order at the counter, sit down with a number type of place. Very relaxed with great shaded space to eat outside. They have a wide selection of lunch fare - fresh salads and sandwiches. My wife is a huge fan of the cobb salad and I have tried and enjoyed many of their sandwiches including the Turkey with avocado and rare roast beef - which was actually a panini and quite tasty. The menu is truly the "California Cuisine" styling. Probably the best kept secret (if it is a secret) is the fact that they also do a sit down dinner during the summer months on the weekends. The food that they have at dinner is spectacular; lamb burgers, crab cakes, all devine! You can also bring your own bottle of wine and they do not charge a corking fee. (They may not have a corkscrew either, so make sure to bring that with you as well, just in case!) The dinners usually run from March through October. They also have a large selection of baked goods and based on my experiences with their desserts - including sticky toffee pudding - they are always extremely tempting. I've only been here for brunch on saturday or sunday after a great workout at the gym or a nice long run at the rose bowl. Occasionally, I've also biked here from north of Old Town Pasadena. Location is in the quaint part of South Pasadena and has an outdoor eating area where you can bring your dogs as well. Lots of bikers and locals stop here for a bite to eat. The granola is awesome. I usually get granola and yogurt along with another dish.. sometimes a breakfast sandwich, omelet, or quiche. The coffee is here can grow a small tuft of hair on your chest which for a girl isn't quite attractive but is definitely an eye opener. The pastries are amazing as well. It was a chilly April morning in Southern California and I was in dire need of a cupcake to celebrate a friend's birthday. Yelp came to the rescue and I could not have been happier with my experience at this place. Street parking, 2 hour parking and lot parking are some options for your car. The place is very nicely decorated and spacious. I can only account for their cupcake/service. They almost always have the hostess cupcake, red velvet, and one variety cupcake that changes every so often. I got the hostess cupcake which really mimics the hostess snack with marshmallow filling and chocolate goodness. The cupcakes are really big! The service was awesome. Once the woman behind the counter found out this was a small birthday surprise, she promptly packaged the cupcake nicely, gave me a lovely bag, and also birthday candles. I was absolutely shocked at how considerate she was. They have a breakfast, brunch, lunch and a variety of lovely sandwiches. The prices are a little bit on the $$ side. The oatmeal is great because it's a huge portion that comes with brown sugar, honey, raisins, and some fresh fruit. I live in South Pasadena and frequent this place often mostly because of the convenience and the super friendly staff (including the owner who is there pretty much everyday and runs the kitchen). They use Equator coffee for their drip and it is usually Equator Alligator French and an Equator proprietary blend (medium and dark roasts). I get the dark roast and it's GOOOD and strong! I mostly come here for breakfast and I think that is the best time to come since all of their baked goods on the counter are made fresh every morning (some of baked goods are the super-flaky plain croissant, the pastry with raspberry jam, sweet croissant, and the blueberry muffin). When I have more time, I like to get their chorizo egg scramble with flour tortilla or their breakfast salad which comes with an awesome dressing with BACON and 2 poached eggs on top. Awesome place for breakfast but also good for lunch (BLT). read more

By all accounts, Heirloom is a winner. For years I've been going out of my way to stop by this amazing bakery-cafe in South Pas and I have all always been satisfied and sometimes just flat-out floored. The food is fresh, the bakery goods delicious, and the staff fun, friendly and efficient. Honestly, what else could you want in a neighborhood cafe? Second time here and had to leave a review this time since 2x and the same great experience is not a coincidence. Got a half Cobb salad and caprese sandwich and split with my wife. Excellent on both. The salad was perfectly balanced between dressing, blue cheese and all the other fixins. The caprese was pressed like a panini and great pesto flavor as well. i just came back from there and it was fabulous! i had the pressed breakfast sandwich and I am stuffed. The serving sizes are very generous the presentation is wonderful. You wait in line to place your order , as you queue up, you are temped with quite a selection baked goods, salads and other items in the case. It is really quite a challenge to not order one of each of the selections from the case. I have tried the Spanish Tortilla, the breakfast sandwich the meatloaf, and an assortment of the baked goods, I have not been disappointed yet. The service is always very friendly, the wait staff is good and the owner often comes out and checks on us when we stop in. I have made it one of my must shows to anyone who comes in from out of town. I also like it for a summer evening walk, the walk is really to the Gold line then get off at the Mission Station and walk across the street and you are there. Best Breakfast in Town I walk past the Heirloom Bakery every morning on the way to the Mission Gold Line station, which is across the street. Today, I left home early so I would have time to grab some coffee and breakfast before catching the train. I had the basic breakfast = scrambled eggs, bacon, rosemary potatoes and toast. The toast is made from homemade bread and is wonderful, the potatoes are crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle small cut up red potatoes. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, just the way I like! And the coffee was really good. I give this place an A+ and will go back again, there was a large assortment of bakery items in the case which looked terrific, and I know I'll need to sample some in the future! read more

Was in the area and needed a dog friendly place to have breakfast. The atmosphere was very cute and open a great place for hanging out with friends and for our doggy. Ordered our food, Egg Sandwich for him and Egg breakfast with egg whites for me. The food took a while to come out and it was during this time I realized they did not have any water bowls out for dogs. For me if your going to advertise as a pet friendly place (sign on the door) you should at least have water bowls available. Once the food came it was very good. My egg whites were perfect, not runny, a great consistency. The bacon was really good. Cooked perfectly and so juicy. I absolutely adore Heirloom. The staff is so helpful, friendly and patient that it keeps me coming back whenever I am in the area. I recently had the key lime pie, hostess cupcake, and the carrot cupcake and I have to say that they were all delicious and not too overly sweet. I have yet to NOT enjoy a trip to this place. The coffee is strong( I likey), the strata was perfection, the oatmeal comes with so many extra add-ons that I just couldn't limit myself. I haven't tried it yet but I love to admire the "hostess" clone cupcake...lol...priceless. There is this one lady that comes to sit and people watch but she is such the vision delicious character that you can't help but smile and stare a little longer. Food: The portobello pizza had a truck-load of cheese on it. We love cheese but not when the cheese becomes the star in a mushroom pizza. Also, some herbs would have been a nice touch on a rather bland pizza. In contrast, the red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting was very delicious and just moist enough. Price: Considering it's situated in South Pasadena, some items are still priced a dollar or two higher than they should be (i.e. portobello pizza). 1 salad + 1 sandwich + 1 pizza + 1 coffee au lait = $32, another $3.50 for cupcake. Ambiance: On the day we visited, there was the world's most adorable schnauzer with her owner in the patio. As if the charm of South Pas isn't enough! But there's a bit of a gnats issue inside the eatery. They hovered around the area where the water cups are and also around the delicious-looking baked goods... no bueno. I frequent this cute spot on mornings when I want to treat my little girl to some mother daughter time outside the house. I usually get the eggs breakfast and its good. I love their rustic bread and the eggs are fluffy. My daughter loves the rosemary potatoes and the bacon is always crispy and never greasy. My hubby tried the granola one time and I stole a bite, yum! He said it was too sweet for his liking, but he's a simple guy. I found the pineapple chunks in there to be a pleasant surprise! I love their coffee too, always smooth and never bitter. We've also had some of their lunch entrees, the chicken sandwich was tasty as well as their pasta salad.On the downside, I ordered a blueberry muffin which was quite dry and bland.
