This is a great family owned pizza restaurant in Carmel Valley. I enjoyed the attentiveness and friendly atmosphere provided by Mary, who was clearly in charge. The restaurant has ample seating to dine in at the restaurant with a full bar shared with the Running Iron restaurant next door. Great photos and western gear decorating the restaurant. This feels like it's been a local staple restaurant for a generation. I really enjoyed this experience. We ordered a medium thin crust 1/2 Stirrup combo and 1/2 Meateater. We ordered their ranch sauce in lieu of tomato sauce, as well substituting jalapeños in lieu of green bell peppers. The crust was crunchy and held the abundant toppings. They are very generous with their toppings. The ham and sausage were large flavorful chunks of meat like they were made locally. This is no mass produced Pizza Hut or domino's experience. This is a great place for families with kids. They have 4 or 5 arcade type machines that kids love. A dad was there with 3 kids and gave his kids a handful of quarters. Clearly giving his wife a break from the kids I enjoyed our first experience at the Stirrup Cup. We will be back...and bring our grand children. read more

Please read before you read other reviews. I have no skin in the game here, I am from the east coast visiting family in town. All these negative reviews are really grasping for straws. This place is great, it's fun, it's tacky, it's got personality and best of all it doesn't care what you think. It is by far not the best pizza you will ever eat, and it is certainly not Chicago deep dish but it also doesn't claim to be either. It's run of the mill pie but it's a pizza place set in the middle of a beautiful town and it has a claw machine, and arcade games and beer, wine and soda. What more could you want? The staff was fantastic, and all you have to do is be kind and courteous to them and they will give it right back. We came in with 18 people and I will attest our kids are insane. They took everything in stride and handled all of us perfectly, and were patient with our 35837 changes to our orders and kids running all over the place. In all, the pizza is a 6/10 on a great night. The wings are unbelievable, in fact they were a late entry for my wing of the year and I'm a chicken wing snob. The beer was cold, and this place is great. The majority of the negative reviews I read seem to be from people who can't find joy with the sun coming up. Tried two Stirrup Cup pizzas. One thin crust and one deep dish. I preferred the thin crust version. I usually like a Chicago style deep dish. This pizza is not that type. It's more of a thick crust type and not too crispy. The pizza has plenty of toppings and cheese. I would recommend the thin crust type. read more

I am a resident of Carmel Valley, and have purchased take-out pizza from the "stirrup cup pizza" r 2-3 times during the COVID-19 outbreak. The first times I was very confident that they were taking appropriate precautions following public health department guidelines. However, yesterday when my husband went to pick up the pizza, he found things had changed. None of the employees were wearing masks. A group of 5, looking like cooks and wait-staff were sitting at a table together, none wearing masks. Several customers were there as well, all wearing masks. One asked the person at the cash register why she wasn't wearing a mask and she replied "because we don't believe it". The one customer left without buying the pizza. We will never return. I think this is outrageous that they would put the community because of their own (political beliefs?) read more

I forgot to take a picture before I ate the other pizza. My friend and I ordered two small pizzas, one deep dish and the other thin crust. The deep dish was basically extremely tiny (only fitting maybe 60% of the small box) and had thick crust rather than it being deep dish. The thin crust pizza fit the box normally. We ordered through phone, and picked up the pizza. The owner seemed to have attitude; she basically lightly threw our receipt to us and spoke with attitude when we inquired about the pizzas and pick up. Taste wise, both were quite mediocre, and I personally did not like the taste. The spinach was quite dry, and the cheese taste overpowered any other taste the pizza was supposed to have. Moreover each pizza was $8. For that price and quality, I would have rather gotten Pizza Hut. Overall, very disappointed. read more

I live nearby to the Stirrup Cup Pizza, and I am so pleased they are my local pizza parlor. Stirrup Cup is our go to for conventional Pizza, and by that I mean American style, not fancy California style. If you were seeking upgrade California style pizza, I recommend nearby corkscrew or Café rustica. But Stirrup Cup consistently comes through with a fine pie. My test for Pizza, is the bottom crust thoroughly cooked? Are the toppings generous and fresh? Stirrup Cup always satisfies; haven't had a failure yet. On top of that, when Kathy answers the phone, she remembers our regular order and asked if we want our usual. You can't beat that for service! She usually says pizza will be ready in 20 to 25 minutes, and it is always been hot and ready in that timeframe. We tip well for the great pizza and service, and recommend the Stirrup CupWhole heartedly. read more

We ordered an extra large ( over $30 ) veggie pizza with pepperoni added on and it was very disappointing. Barely any vegetables - maybe 10 slivers of green pepper, 30 olive slices and 10slivers of mushroom ( probably from a sole shroom ) as well as adequate pepperoni ( which was only requested in order to assuage the kids ). Beneath the scant vegetables was waaaay too much cheese and an undercooked deep dish crust. Where do they get off charging $35 for this? I know that the Village can be slow for business owners, but you shouldn't cheat your local customers out of their hard earned money. Never again. read more

Vacationing in Carmel for a car show and decided to stop in for some delicious pizza!.... That's how I hoped this review would go. Disappointingly this is NOT how the review goes. If you're looking for overpriced, microwave quality pizza then this is the spot for you. The terrible service and rudeness they provide is really the cherry on top. But if that's still not enough abuse for you, take a couple extra packets of chili flakes (that would cost the house an extra 2 cents at most) to really get the full Stirrup Cup experience! Save your money and your frustration and just get some Totinos Pizza rolls or Bagel Bites because when pizza's on a bagel, you can have pizza anytime...and they taste better than Stirrup Cup pizza. Alright, so wifey has been sick all day, and it was up to me to feed the family and I'm not much of a cook. If I cooked us dinner, my wife probably wouldn't have been the only one rushing to the toilet every half hour.So I decided to pick up a Stirrup Cup pizza for the first time since moving back to the Village. Last time I had their pizza I didn't care much for it, but that was about a decade ago, and several people have told me that it was very good. It wasn't that bad, the cheese, sauce, and toppings were all fine. The crust was OK, except that the outer crust tasted like eating a handful of flour. What turned me off the most was the price. After a two dollar tip, it cost me twenty-five bucks. I know,,,, it's Carmel Valley. I didn't expect Pizza Hut prices, but I did expect them to exceed Pizza Hut quality if they're going to charge those prices. They didn't even bring it to my house or anything. I had to get off the couch in the middle of a football game, put on some pants, and drive there to pick up a $23 pizza that was slightly better than DiGiorno's. I'm sure I'll order pizza from them again, but only because I'm lazy. Not because it's good. read more

i'm a 12 year resident of carmel valley. this place has definitely been hit or miss for me. i've ordered here about 10 times over the years. haven't been there for a few years so thought i would give it a try. phone ordered a medium thin crust pizza with 2 toppings and a personal thin crust pizza and a caesar salad. came out to ~$45. REVIEW: 1 of the toppings was missing on the medium pizza, not close to thin crust and there was so much sauce on it that the that the dough was absolutely gooey. yuck. the personal margaretta pizza was not thin crust at all and the report back was it was pretty good. the salad was not that fresh, definitely chucky cheese quality and the dressing so fishy we thought it was turned. didn't eat it. won't be going back anytime soon here for anything to eat. I CAN'T RECOMMEND TO ANYONE I KNOW. bummer... read more

Dee-licious!!! Order the Pepperoni with extra cheese pan pizza. It's all bubbly and crispy on the bottom (like a Pizza Hut pan pizza) and makes you not share the crusts with your dog. They have yummy house-made ranch dressing. The salads are excellent and huge. The wings are spicy with a crisp to them (not breaded). read more

Sure some might claim it is expensive for what you get and that commercial chain pizza is so much cheaper, but none of those commercial chain places are going to deliver a pizza to Carmel Valley Village and if you go get it yourself you are going to pay a lot more than what the Stirrup Cup charges by the time you pay for gas to get there and back etc plus your pizza will no longer be pipin' hot ooey gooey goodness like you get from this place. I've had better pizza elsewhere, but both the deep dish and the thin crust here is way better than any of the commercial chain pizzas. Their ingredients are good and the cheese is some of the best I have tasted. I will definitely recommend this place for anyone in the mood for pizza in the Village. Stopped in here for a quick lunch on Sunday the 14th of September 2014. Sat at the bar with my son....and was met by " Tawny " the barkeep. I ordered the patty melt, and my son some fried chicken tenders. Food came promptly, was clearly just made fresh for us, and tasted terrific. Tawny was very pleasant to converse with, the drinks were refilled without asking, and we were fed and on our way in a twinkling. Prices were very fair given the freshness and quality of the lunch provided. We stopped here by chance....but were very glad we did. Nice local hangout...wish I were a local. read more

I came across this while looking up the number for another pizza place down the road on 7-28-17. When I looked at the menu and reviews I decided to give it a try. On their menu it clearly says, "Chicago Style Pizza". The deep dish is advertised as, "2 inches deep" piled high. So that's what I ordered. I got the pizza home which was about 20-min away when I opened the box. What I got was a normal pizza, not a 2-inch deep dish Chicago style pizza. The toppings were minimal to say the least. I was too far away to take it back so I ate it then called the Stirrup Cup. I spoke with a woman and asked her about the pizza explaining the only reason I ordered it was because it was advertises as a Chicago style 2-inch thick pizza. She told me that the add on the menu was not accurate and she has been trying to get the owner to change it. She further said that it was kinda fake advertising, that it was more like a, "Carmel Valley Chicago Style pizza" whatever the hell that is. I explained the only reason I ordered it was because of the way it was advertised and what I got was a very average tasting normal pizza. Instead of offering me a refund or even a credit for a pizza at a later time all she basically said was, it wasn't her issue. (not her actual words but pretty much what she said) So, one of two things here. Either they made a normal pizza and the woman didn't want to admit that they screwed up or they are lying on their menu about the deep dish pizza which was her excuse. Either way It was a bad experience and I can assure you I would never return and further more I will make sure I pass the word on to others about the experience. DO NOT BELIEVE THE CHICAGO DEEP DISH 2-INCH PILE HIGH ADD, HUGE LIE!!! The only thing that was piled high was the BS on the add and by the employee. read more
