Food was outstanding, atmosphere was relaxing. Lamb, pork, roasted vegetable appetizer were all flavorful and delicious. Chairs were comfy, which was good since the off-kilter pacing meant we'd be sitting for nearly THREE HOURS. Server neglected to inform us of the specials, had to ask. During desert (the crème brûlée which was fantastic) we noticed other guests eating bread, which we were not offered during our meals. While the food was very good, it failed to make up for the disrespectful wait time, less-than-ideal service, and lack of attention to detail. read more

Allow me to preface this by saying that it was a very good meal, but if this restaurant were in Miami (where I live) I would likely be giving it 4 stars. It's more of a 4.25 than a 5 but for the area that it's in, it gets 5. This is one of the best if not the best restaurants I've been to in Hampton Roads. I lived in Chesapeake for 16 years, have been living elsewhere for 12 years, but visit ~6x per year. The decor is chic and modern yet inviting and warm. Our party of 3 sat on the side enclosed patio section. The main dining area was quite cold but the section we were in was perfect. I loved the navy blue chairs - the fabric was soft and they were very comfortable. Our waiter was perfect - a good sense of humor and checked in on us at appropriate times. My mom was the only one who ordered a speciality drink and it was nonalcoholic. They didn't have it but I don't recall what it was. I ordered the NY Strip which was market price ($42) for 14 oz, cooked medium. It came out unfortunately overcooked in most of the steak, with probably half of it well-done. I didn't send it back because it wasn't dry, so well-done was somehow tolerable. The sear on the steak was too hard so the exterior tasted burnt. The pomme puree under the steak was wonderful and when it ended up thinning out with the juices from the steak, I seriously considered taking the straw out of my coke and drinking the soupy potato/steak juice mixture with the straw. My mom got the crab cakes and they were good. The mashed potatoes with her crab cakes were on the verge of too salty but in my opinion, better that way than under seasoned. They were so smooth and delicious, I finished what she didn't eat. I may dream of those mashed potatoes. My dad got pork chops with sweet potatoes that he said were good (I didn't taste them). For dessert I got the s'mores tart and my mom got the creme Brulee. I wasn't blown away but they were both good. Overall, a very good experience. It's hard to say that it was perfect because it was not, but it was pretty dang good! I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an elevated dining experience, beyond what you would find basically anywhere else in the area. read more

Rockefeller Oysters - mediocre, average sized, solid taste She clam soup - not bad but not good. Entrees: NY Strip (medium rare) - $45, it was unflavorful, dry, bland tasting left a bad aftertaste. Tico Tacos - they weren't bad tasting but they weren't flavorful at all. Sides: Coconut rice- good Brussel sprouts- good Dessert: crème brûlée - tasted good. But I do have some thoughts. For this crème brûlée to be up there with the best of the best the pudding must be warm. Yeah ambious was great but all the meals were bland and subpar not what you would expect from a 5 star on yell restaurant..... maybe we just caught them on a bad day. Someone on the Nextdoor site suggested Heirloom, which I had never been too. We arrived right at 4 pm for Happy Hour pricing, and I'm glad we did because we didn't have reservations. The place was filled up by 4:15 and I can see why! The drink menu is extensive, and the Happy Hour drinks are about 1/2 price. Order the shrimp appetizer! Food was average .Tried my sisters she crap soup had a terrible after taste . I got oysters and 6 shrimp and glass of champagne and spent $100 and some change after tip . What a great experience at Heirloom last night! The menu presents the full spread of land and sea options with a special nod to the seafood. Their claim to leverage local products in their dishes is evident based on their accompaniments. We have a rule that everyone must order something different so our foursome managed to get a good sampling and all were exceptional. The duck was perfectly prepared and generous in portion, the rockfish and mahi were just plain tasty and offered brightly flavored plates everyone enjoyed. The highlight was the whole snapper, tho. Perfectly prepared and served on a coconut risotto which complimented the fish to a tee! We also sampled a few glasses of bubbles offered as part of "Fizzy Friday" with some guide service from the charming sommelier.. It's worth noting that the restaurant is really pleasantly decorated with an apparent eye to maintaining a soothing ambience thru thoughtful lighting and somewhat formal table presentation. We sat on the new deck which will be opened up to allow the evening breeze to flow once the weather gets a bit warmer. Great service, incredible food and wonderful ambience... this one is in my top 5. I'll certainly be heading back to see what they do with each season's harvest! read more

I really don't know what happened. Last time I was here the food was really amazing. I couldn't stop raving about this place and recommending it to people. I had my vow renewal dinner here last week. All the food was horrible and bland. Maybe they have a new chef? I was so embarrassed to bring my family here and then to pay $800 for awful food..that stung. I really don't know if I would come back after that experience. They went from the best restaurant in town to somewhere I wouldn't want to eat at. I only took 2 bites of my food, boxed it up, and took it home to the dogs. I tried everyone else's food at the table and it was all bad. Nobody liked their food. I'm so disappointed. read more

This place SERIOUSLY knows what they're doing. I've been here about 5 times over the last year and every single experience was even better than the last. To start, they use open table and typically have reservations open if you look a day or two ahead of time. Hostess' are always efficient when you walk in. Happy hour is a great deal but you have to be sitting at the bar or sunroom. We have gotten the heirloom shrimp a few times (delicious) and our absolute favorite is the Burger! Honestly the best burger in Virginia Beach. I don't know why this burger hasn't gotten more attention in the area. We recently got the filet because we were celebrating and it was expertly cooked, cherry tomato and potato sides were a fantastic balance of flavor. The perfect summer entree. To top it all off their service is top notch. Bartenders and waitresses are always the perfect amount of helpful but not overbearing. Super professional and knowledgeable. Decided to stop into Heirloom Restaurant last evening for Happy Hour. They did not disappoint!! We were very Happy when we left. We only had appetizers, but they were amazing. The Fried Shrimp were very fresh lightly breaded, with a gentle seasoning which melted in your mouth. The Steak Bites, perfectly grilled and seasoned and place Heirloom a bed of light Horseradish cream. Then the Oysters on the half shell, so fresh I thought I was on a Oyster boat eating them as they came out of the water. I also had their Crème Brûlée, very smooth and silky. Just sweet enough to enjoy with out the guilt of of over indulgence. What a delightful experience. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. The Manager, Bartenders made us feel right at home. Being that it's only 1/2 mile from our house it is our new local spot. read more

Our daughter and son in law held their wedding reception of 106 guests at Heirloom this past Saturday. The restaurant was closed to the public for the event. The food was delicious with great menu choices not your typical chicken, fish or pasta dinner that you get at hotels. They were very accommodating, allowing for decorating and setting up for music. The service was well paced and smooth despite the large number of guests. The head bartender created a signature drink in addition to the usual drink selections. Definitely a place worth considering for your private event as well as dinner out with your friends.
