A good home town dive bar. Food doesn't exceed bar type munchies, but the staff and clientele is the tops. Highly recommend.

So, I was understandably hesitant about a new bar moving into what was considered by many to be hallowed ground. Since I walk by it on my way home from work, I decided to stop in soon after it first opened to see what it was like. And now I am a regular and it's one of my favorite watering holes in the city. Super cool atmosphere, with tons of horror movie memorabilia on the walls. A couple of pinball machines ( including a brand new Evil Dead one which is really sweet), and neat liitle outback area for nicer days. They also occasionally have music and drag shows inside, and in the summer months cool shows outside in the parking lot next door. You can also grab a grilled cheese or a hot dog from Puggles Grilled Cheese most days of the week if you're feeling peckish. And my favorite thing... PICKLEBACKS.... !!!! All the drinks are cheap and they have a good selection of beers and ciders. Maybe most importantly, the owners Jeff and Courtney are absolutely lovely people who really understood keeping the locals vibe of the E & O era but also being it's own thing. Definitely support this great establishment.

The first thing you notice at Lucky's is the noise. Country and classic rock pour out of the…read morespeakers. Pool balls crack. Laughter runs into arguments about nothing that matters. The room is full of people whose hands do real work, now wrapped around pool cues and plastic cups while they forget about roofs, engines, kids, and bills. We stayed for about an hour. Long enough to see this is a regulars' bar, the kind where people walk in already laughing at a joke that started three nights ago. Alli clocked us as soon as we came through the door. "You're Tim, right?" She then began quoting the parts that she liked from last year's RI FOOD FIGHTS Lord of the Pies review back to me. Sometimes word for word. Out of the blue. Nodding as she went. She agreed with it. Lucky's knew they'd landed near the bottom of my list. No excuse making. Just a little hope, I think, that this year would read differently. I wanted that too. They know exactly what they are at Lucky's: a bar that feeds and waters the people who live nearby. The neighborhood's living room. The staff and the neighbors have always been the stars. The pizza finally caught up. They make their own dough on site every day. As far as I can tell, that's how they've always done it. What changed is how it all comes together on the pan. The pie that landed in front of us looked like exactly what it is. A really solid Greek pizza. Crust on the thicker side, with a soft chew and a clean crunch at the back end. Sauce with an herby backbone. A little sweet but with enough acid to keep it from feeling heavy. Cheese that melts into browned, salty pockets you hunt down at the edge of the crust. Greek pies don't try to innovate anything. They just have to be honest. This one is. Last year, Lucky's was dead last on Lord of the Pies rankings. This year it climbed to dead center. Twenty one out of forty. That doesn't sound heroic until you remember nothing else about the place changed. Same bar. Same crowd. Same noise. Same staff. The only difference was how good the pizza is now. I have no confusion that Lucky's is a bar that serves pizza, not a pizzeria that happens to have a bar. The difference now is that THIS pizza can stand right there with all of the other places that put "pizza" in big letters on the sign. But how many of those places are this fun or friendly? Alli told us maybe a hundred people had come through with coupons. She laughed and said you can usually spot the "pizza people" as soon as they walk in. She wasn't wrong. We were those people. What mattered was how her regulars handled it. Our friends ended up spending most of the time talking to the guys at the pool table. People at the bar asked where we were from, how many places we'd hit, how this pie stacked up. At no point did we feel like outsiders passing through to collect another stamp. If you live nearby, you already know what Lucky's is. If you're cutting across Foster on your way to a casino or just trying to get lost for a bit, you can walk in, grab a pie, and sit at a bar that doesn't treat you like you're intruding on an inside joke. The pizza moved from forgettable to solid. The time we spent there felt like a little redemption story. And everyone in the building had a hand in writing it. And who doesn't love a nice, hot pizza or a happy ending?

Also a win for my husband, the egg hunt is at a bar! Cost of admission: a canned good. Marked in the calendar! We pull up about 50 minutes prior to the egg hunt and only 5 cars in the parking lot, one hood up and being jumped. We questioned if an egg hunt was happening? We left the canned goods in the car and walked in. Wasn't expecting much but this place has small bar charm! A bar that seats around 15 people. Wood paneling, pool tables, from the looks of it a highly used fireplace and a little pizza place. Just enough. Still didn't look like an egg hunt was going to be happening but I noticed a table in the back corner that looked like raffle prizes. We sat, started with drinks. Ordered food. Small pepperoni pizza, fries and buffalo wings. Everything was ok. The wings could have been better (small) but the other food and kind service made up for it. The locals were energetic and animated. Other people started piling in for the egg hunt. Think some with real Easter baskets. Some with plastic bags (like me!) Some had chia seeds to donate and others had donettes. Just an FYI- if you plan on going next year make sure to support the bar as well. The backyard has a fenced in area but the egg hunt was inside that area and on both sides leading to the back woods. When we left at least an hour after the egg hunt had begun, there were still 7 eggs and prizes still hidden. What did we win? 1 six pack of Whalers seltzer, 1 six pack of Whalers beer, one pint glass, one 2nd annual Lucky's sticker (it was legit) and candy. Now what did we also leave with? Someone leaving passed us a gold token for a free beer from the bar and the bartender gave us a jumbo egg filled with nips. I declare I love Lucky's Adult Easter egg Hunt I had a lot of fun. This place has won me over.

We were seated in a cute little area. We ordered our drinks and we really wanted the fish chowder for our app, but they didn't have any (so disappointing). My husband decided on the chili and nothing caught my eye for an app, but I had some bites of the chili and it was very very good! For dinner my husband picked the Beef and Guinness Stew and I picked the Fish and Chips. My fish was very good, but it said it came with hand cut fries and there was no way they were hand cut, they tasted like everything other frozen fries I've had and they were really skimpy on the fries. My husband's Beef and Guinness Stew was awful, he said the meat was very grizzly and tough. We really enjoyed our experience dining in such a beautiful place, we might come back in the summer and give them another try.
