Tucked into the corner of a large intersection just strip off the interstate, the Hellenic Restaurant is easily accessible, welcoming, friendly and full of good food and fresh coffee. Our party of five arrived around 11 AM one weekday recently. Seating was open: tables and chairs, or booths. Everything was clean. No stickiness. Some of our party ordered breakfast; others lunched. Our server was kind, accommodating and efficient. He kept coffee mugs filled, and had our meals out in a flash. Everything was well-timed, brought to us fresh off the griddle or out of the oven. Impressive. The Reuben Sandwich I ordered was excellent: crisp, hot and full of corned beef. Sauerkraut was wonderfully sour. I even ordered an extra side! Price point is reasonable. Meh. There are such better coneys and diners in the area - this one is expensive and a bit skimpy on portions. The Greek salad with grilled chicken was pretty decent, but could have had more feta. It was fresh, at least. My hubby's club was pretty lame, though - one single slice of turkey per piece of bread. He also ordered cheese fries, and out bill was like $45. My husband decided to bring breakfast home from a different restaurant. His friend recommended Hellenic. The first thing I noticed was how runny the tzatziki sauce was. I don't know what the meat was but it didn't taste like gyro and one morsel was definitely a slice of a breakfast sausage link. The top of the omelette was dry but the inside was not done. I don't care for runny eggs at any time. With recent challenges with eggs the recommendation is that they be cooked thoroughly. I did not eat most of the omelette. read more

What a lovely Saturday morning breakfast a large group of us shared at the Hellenic! Free, ample parking is available in the large lot just outside the entrance. It was quiet enough that conversation flowed as the fresh coffee (in small cups that had been mistakenly ordered) was poured and refilled over and over. I had scrambled eggs and buttered, toasted rye bread. It was served just off the griddle hot. Our kind, knowing server had been working here for a long long time; recalling when the restaurant had been originally up the street. Great experience. Everyone left satisfied. read more

Absolutely rudest owner. A few years back he was condescending and downright unacceptable rude. Restaurant was closing and the waitresses said we could finish up while they cleaned up. He walked over to our table and told us "its time for you to leave now" all while leaning on the table and pushing his face at us aggressively!!! This was exactly 3 minutes after closing. We left and stood outside and literally watched the staff cleaning for another 30 minutes!!! I am a 30+ year patron Of hellenic. Very disappointing and just done with this big burly jerk. read more

The food; prices and service are 5 There is minimal wait time from the time being seated to when your order is presented. The waitstaff doesn't hover over your table asking "how's the food?" Re-fills are timely and the atmosphere is the occasional "OPA" The Hellenic is the go to restaurant with an extensive menu. read more

First time coming to this fine establishment. It is seat yourself. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. Saganaki had such great flavor one of the top I have ever head, downfall you don't get that much with it. The blt wrap was amazing, I usually get blt sandwich and cut my mouth with the toast this made a whole different experience for me and now I will never go back . My friend got the club sandwich was delicious. Honestly everything we ordered was so good we will definitely be back. There was only one lady helping the tables but she killed it! read more

Mine and my husbands favorite coney island in Southfield!! The place is Always clean, the service/staff are Always super friendly (they bring our drinks to the table before even ordering) and what can I say - we Love the food!! One of my favorites is the hot chicken pasta! Sooo good!! The portion for the small is so big, its enough for 2 meals! My husband is a coney snob! He loves the chili at this particular place. Normally coney islands are all pretty much the same. However, this one is in a league of its own. The food is over priced, very small portions and tasted awful! It's in the plaza with Michigan First Credit Union. Do yourself a huge favor, and go elsewhere. Lastly, the folks are NOT very friendly. Horrible Pancakes. Worse service from Management. The wait staff is pleasant enough. My family are regular patrons, often ordering 4 meals for the family. Even with explicitly saying, "golden pancakes please"....this is what has been repeatedly served as the standard of service. I have had to send pancakes back on atleast 4 occasions. Enough is enough! Save yourself some aggravation, go to Marco's Cozy Cafe or the Original Pancake House - both are in Southfield on 10 mile. Frankly, this is ridiculous!! No...it's a d**n shame that will spoil any family breakfast table. Oh, yes I tried to take this back and speak to the manager. He refused to speak to me. If I can get in my car and request a new order...I think the least any manager would do was to take the complaint, hear you out, and recover your service...they couldn't even do that. My advice, Don't waste your time. Try any of the same flavor of restaurants- that serve the same food, at the same cost , offering better service - all in the Southfield area. read more

Ridiculous! I just walked into Helenic Coney, Sat in a booth. It was 1:18p on a weekday, they were maybe 1/4 full. Waitress comes over, says I needed to get up and take a table in the middle because these are reserved for two or more. I said that's ridiculous there are seven open booths right now. She tells the owner, he comes over and says "you have to move." I said I'll move out the front door and I left. Seriously, that's some crazy control freak stuff. I've been a pretty loyal customer since mid nineties when they were at the old location. Although I think some things have changed as far as quality & service , I continue to patronize. Inside is ok, cramped and busy. My favorite is the chicken Greek salad, a lil pricey and the portions are small and lack in the toppings that accompany the salad. Even after asking for extra, still barely see that paying is worth it. After all these years the greek dressing is still to die for. I stumbled onto this place while looking for another restaurant and decided to pop in. It was bustling with activity, which is usually a good sign. I ended up waiting a long time at what I would have considered off-peak lunch time (after 1:00 p.m.). When I finally got the food, it was a real disappointment. The spinach pie was microwave city: two tough hockey pucks of spinach, pastry and a little feta cheese on the top. The Greek salad had an OK dressing but it wasn't good enough to hide ingredients decidedly not fresh. With a name like Hellenic Restaurant, you might think that there would be more than 5 - 7 dishes on a large menu that are Greek. Sometimes, though, expectations are not met. As a result, I expect that I won't be coming here again. read more

Hellenic Coney Island moved to this location from their spot on Evergreen and Twelve Mile and in doing so they dropped the "Coney Island" part of the name in lieu of the more broad "Restaurant." But don't let the name change fool you, their coney's are still where it's at. Two coneys and a plate of their legendary fries are the gut busting special here and they are quite delicious. The dogs are sturdy and meaty and they've got a hearty beef flavor. Top them with their quality chili, a load of mustard and a heaping helping of onions and you've got yourself a meal! But don't just stop with the dogs, you gotta add their secret weapon--their fries. I don't know if this is on the menu or not (honestly when you know what you want you don't need to order) but they've got two kinds of fries here--their standard fry, and their special "old" fries made like they cooked em up at their last location. Not sure what they do differently but please--do yourselves a favor and get the old fry. These are delicious. A little under-salted for me (I like it salty!) but a few passes of the old shaker make them pretty much perfect. Great, friendly service (they'll definitely encourage you to up your coney order) and a comfy space with plenty of seating and large booths if you come in for lunch with a big group. I'll admit that while they're not the best coney's I've ever had in my life (the downtown joints take the cake for me) these definitely rank up there with some of the better dogs I've had. Went in today and was not impressed at all! Came for the lemon rice soup which is pretty good but the service was simply terrible! The employees walk around looking unenthusiastic. The owner was very nonchalant and rude when speaking to me! For my first time here, I wasn't welcomed but was instead rushed to hurry and make a decision from a menu I was unfamiliar with! I'll keep this short and sweet. I've been ordering 1 thing from the menu for the past 15+ years... the chicken stir fry with Greek dressing and pita bread. I've had breakfast there twice and it was good but the stir fry is to die for! A little disappointed this last visit, my wife and I both got salads that really weren't up to par. My youngest wanted the wings dings and fries. The salads were wilted and the toppings we're few and far between. I expected more from a grilled chicken ceasars salad but I was sadly mistaken on this particular visit. The lady with the blonde hair and slight hunch back, is rude! She didn't greet me, she is argumentative, insensitive and unsanitary. I had to return because they forgot the bacon on my burger. The lady takes my food out of the bag without gloves, opens the lid to the food and then hands it to the cook! The cook in the back was kind and apologized that he forgot to put the bacon on, the lady goes "here you go, sorry about that, but I know I wrote bacon on the paper" NEVER going back. read more
