    Restaurant area

Great little Indian restaurant. The dining area was empty when we arrived (given in was 2:30 on a Monday) but others arrived after we had sat down. Food was the correct level of spice and flavor and portions (two dishes and a side of naan) was more than enough for two people. Our onion naan was sub par compared with others we have tried but our dishes were just great!

Chicken Korma and lamb Samosa, yum!

We only did take out. But it was extremely good. Watch your spice level. They are very generous the the "heat".

The Gobi 65 was extremely spicy, heavily topped with chilli powder. We ended up scratching off the top layer to remove the spices but it didn't help. The chole in chole bhature was also much spicier to the point where it overpowered all the other flavors. The bhature was very doughy inside and tasted like it had been fried in oil that had been reused many times. We also ordered aloo paratha which had very little filling approximately only about 10% with most bites being just plain dough. This was one of the worst Indian dining experiences we've had. We kept hoping at least one of the dishes would be nice, but unfortunately every item we ordered was disappointing. I hope the restaurant can improve the quality of these dishes.

The restaurant is really spacious with booths in one side and tables on the otherside. The table side had a section that looks like a bar, could turn into a dj booth for music. We placed our order and waited in the sitting area. Lamb samosa was really flavorful with lots of spices, I had to eat with hot sauce. Butter chicken was delicious, I had with Naan and my daughter had it over rice. Her favorite drink is mango Lassi.

For the Indians craving traditional Indian flavors, in my opinion, this may not live up to expectations. We tried the samosas. The casing was exceptional. Crispy and held itself. The filling; hmmmm, didn't care for it much. The gobi manchuran we ordered as an appetizer too, not what we expected. It lacked the 'crispy' feel as it had a lot of the sauce. Traditionally, even when saucy, the gobi has an awesome crisp to the extent it's crunchy. Fun to eat. The other thing we didn't enjoy in the flavor profile of this was the ketchup. It felt like there was a good amount of ketchup that was used in the sauce. The tomato soup was EXCELLENT. It was a cool evening and the warm, rich, slightly sour soup hit the spot. I ordered the chole bhature. I think that was the most disappointing. The chole was not bad but the bhature; come on guys. You know what real bhature is. What was served was closer to something like a version of pita bread (little different) but not a bhature. If there was a 'sin' committed, I would say it was not serving a traditional bhature for a dish called chole bhature. We also ordered a dal makhani which was alright. The paneer makhani was really good. The paneer was super fresh and the flavor while not original (to me) was still really good. The service was fantastic. Our server was friendly, attentive, made sure our waters were always filled and checked in on us from time to time without being overwhelming while yet not disappearing. Would I come here again? Yes, to try the meats I will. I do feel the flavors may have been created to cater to the American taste buds so the authencity of the stuff we tried was just not there.

It was a really good choice. The services were good, the atmosphere was calming and quiet. The food came out quick after ordering. Everything was good, the garlic naan was delicious and so was the other dish. It did not disappoint us at all, everything was yummy and tasty. Everything had good flavor, you can taste the different flavors and they all balance out so well. Recommend to friend and family!

We started with cheese curds. Loved that they were batter fried and not breaded. Very tasty and a huge app portion. My entree was the pulled pork sandwich with bbq beans. Everything was very good. He told me back then that someday we needed to check out J&J's. We love small business, local, non-chain restaurants. I decided to surprise my husband and take him to J&J's for Father's Day. We are empty nesters, so it was just the two of us for lunch. We arrived just after 12 p.m. There was a line out the door, which we expected since it was Father's Day and Sunday lunchtime. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table, which we had no issue with. We ended up waiting less than 10 minutes because there was a table available on the patio. The weather was beautiful, and with summer being so short in Minnesota, we like to take advantage of it whenever we can. Our server came to our table shortly after we were seated, but it was long enough that we both had time to decide what we wanted before she arrived. I ordered the Texas Philly, and my husband had the brisket sandwich. We had to wait a while for our food, which we understood given how busy the restaurant was. Others around us were complaining about the wait, and those tables had a different server who was very apologetic about the kitchen being backed up. The hand-cut fries were piping hot and seasoned perfectly. It's so rare to go out to eat and get hot fries, let alone fries that are piping hot. That alone was worth the wait! My husband loved the brisket sandwich, and the Texas Philly was SO good--piled full of meat. We live in the south metro, but it was well worth the 30+ minute drive to get there. We'll definitely be back and will absolutely recommend J&J's to others!
