Absolutely terrible experience and a complete waste of money. The technician barely understood the job I had hired HelloTech to perform and had to be reminded multiple times what the task was. He repeatedly disconnected our Wi-Fi and cable while attempting to install the new receiver, clearly not knowing what he was doing or how the components worked together. After several hours with little progress, I had to leave. Later, the tech texted that everything was "done" and working fine -- but when I returned home, nothing was functioning properly. He had simply plugged the cable box directly into the TV and called it a surround-sound installation, even though none of the speakers were connected to the new receiver. To make matters worse, he claimed he couldn't install the new infrared system because a cable from the old setup had fallen behind the TV -- even though I had purchased an entirely new system specifically to avoid that issue. When I offered the new components, he said they'd be "too hard to figure out." I paid for professional installation, but what I got was confusion, wasted time, and a mess I now have to fix myself. read more

We paid it over $100 to have a smart deadbolt lock installed, and as the tech was unpacking the box, he noted, "Here's the keys." But at the end of the job, when the tech packed up his tools and left, the keys went with him! He did not leave the keys for us. I spoke with Customer Service and noted that their "guarantee" assures 100% satisfaction - "If you are not 100% happy, we'll do whatever it takes to make it right." I told them that their tech did not leave the keys for the lock. They said they would look into it and get back to me. I called them again after two days, then after another two days. I then received a text, simply stating that the tech said he did not have the keys. I called Customer Service and noted that the tech had told me the keys were on the island in the kitchen, where he had spread out his tools -- but when he packed up and left, there were no keys. Their response was to tell me that the "burden of proof" was on me to prove that the tech had the keys. I explained that I wasn't accusing him of "stealing" our keys - it seemed he accidentally packed them away when he left. Again, Customer Service told me that I had to PROVE that the tech "accidentally took the keys." I asked how I was supposed to go about doing this -- the man installed a lock, said "here are the keys," but when he left, there were no keys! Their response was to tell me that the tech is "innocent until proven guilty" and they are not going to do anything to resolve the situation. I asked to speak to a manager, and the Customer Service representative said, "I am the manager." I replied, "Let me speak with whomever you report to." She said, "There is no one above me." In disbelief, I asked her if she expected me to believe that my phone call immediately went to the highest person in the company. She said that she was on a "team" of managers, all at equal levels -- so I said, "Then let me speak with the person you all report to." She hesitated, and said, "He's not here." I asked for his voicemail, and, after hesitating again, she said, "He doesn't have a direct line." I asked her to please not lie to me -- and she then threatened to end the call. I asked her if she was seriously claiming that her supervisor didn't have a phone. She had no response, and the call ended. I've called back four times -- every time, someone answers... and then hangs up. We paid $100 for a lock, plus $108 for installation -- and they did not leave us a key, but they will do nothing to resolve the situation. Their claim that the "burden of proof" is on me to "prove" that the technician accidentally took the keys with him is nonsense -- I told them I can show them that I have no key for this lock, but they told me that unless I can prove that the technician took it, they have no responsibility. read more

I would not want this tech to return to my home in the future. His attitude was very condescending and disrespectful and it made me uncomfortable in my own home. Every time I asked him a question, he responded in a way that meant to demean me. I am also upset I had to pay 80.00 for a door bell installation that was not able to be hardwired and was also placed crooked as the tech did not use a level for any of the products installed. I could have done a better job and the reason I paid for the installation was to have a professional and this person just seemed to not care. Not only that, he acted like I was wasting his time when I asked him to wait on the door bell installation because I wanted to call Hello Tech to confirm the price. I thought the price for a hard wire installation was different but it was not. He installed the door bell too high and did not have me look at the camera view to make sure it was in the right spot before he drilled through my door columns. I did ask him to drill it higher but he should have had me look at the camera view before hand to make it was on the right place.i also had a problem with one of the pieces of equipment as it kept erroring as a low battery, and he told me it was the touch screen and I said I that I thought it was the hub. He told me he could not help me with this and that I had to call the company. It turns out that it was the hub and not the touchscreen like he thought it was and had insisted it was as he did not listen to me about it. At one point during the installation he could not get something to work as the network was down and I had to look at the touchscreen myself and figure it out. He did not seem knowledgeable about the product. Not only that but he did not offer to mount my hub or touchscreen and actually told me there was no mount for the touchscreen. I ended up finding it in the box and showed it to him. He was really unpleasant and the service I received was disappointing. read more

He also drilled a hole below in my stucco where the camera was supposed to go. He didnt have a masonry bit and the guy seemed to be all over the place I want someone to come out and fix it correctly. The main reason for this review is to criticize Hellotech's policy of requiring signup for $19.99/month for a year in order to get a service of any kind. The service is good, in my case just getting a tv mounted on the wall: well done, on time, all good. The price for the service is also good in and of itself and is why I chose Hellotech. (I live in Carlsbad, don't know that that matters.) Had I been smarter, I would have cancelled my Hellotech "subscription" quickly and avoided, I think, the monthly charge.
