If I could give this place zero stars I would. I understand restaurants are struggling with staffing shortages recently but that is absolutely no excuse for how we were treated at this restaurant/bar. My friend and I had placed a food and drink order at the bar and when we received our food it was incorrect. We politely brought it to the bartenders attention so it would reflect properly in our bill what we actually received. Upon finishing our meal we asked for the check and the bartender exploded on us for simply asking for the check. It was an absolute embarrassment and poor representation of this establishment with how he was treating customers. I'm still unsure exactly why he started yelling at us when we asked for the check. We paid the bill and while walking out of the restaurant, other staff members teamed up and unprovoked, started yelling at us as well as we were leaving. It's a shame as I have been to this restaurant previously and had positive experiences, but after last night, I will never return. read more

Went there for dinner last week with my boyfriend. Upon coming in we were told there were no menus available, did we want to sit down anyway? We said sure, and opted for a bar/high top table and ordered drinks to start. Shortly after they found us two menus. Struck me as sort of odd for 6:30 on a Thursday evening. We ordered the crab dip as an appetizer (my guy has a soft spot for sourdough bread). It was very good and not overly crabby or fishy. Very flavorful. Served in a sourdough breadbowl with chips on the side, I was wishing there was more dip in the slightly shallow bowl. I've always had the sushi when I've went- they really do a nice job and its very fresh and tasty. No complaints. My guy had the ribs, which he allowed me to taste and wow. They're really, really good. We wound up taking some home, and even the next day the meat was still fall-off-the-bone good with the sauce having a nice balance of sweet and tang. My only complaint- and what's keeping this from a 4 star review- is we each ordered a drink, and they were ridiculously watered down. I would swear there was no alcohol at all in my "malibu" baybreeze. I tasted no alcohol, and my guy complained his crown and coke was all coke, and barely any crown. Very disappointing. We've been to Hemingway's a number of times in the past, and will likely be there 1-2 more times before the summer's over. I just won't be ordering any alcohol the next time around. read more

I had a couple cuc/avo rolls and seaweed salad. overpriced and mediocre, i couldve gotten the same thing from a grocery store. small portions, too. everyone else had a similar impression, a few people at the table wanted to leave and get food elsewhere, after dinner! others at the table had sliders, other sushi, the gnocchi special.... sentiment across the board was, overpriced, undersized, blah. This place has gone downhill. My family used to love dining at Hemingway's but now it's disgusting. The seared tuna app was frozen and lobster in the lobster roll tasted fishy, the Chicken Florentine was a flavorless mess. We all agreed we were done with this restaurant. Hemingway's is the "Go To" place in Seaside for ambiance, great service and excellent food. Happy Hour every day except Monday with a nice selection of appetizers and house drinks. Live entertainment Friday-Monday. Parking is metered but, if you have the season or handicap placard it's free. read more

This place was a nice surprise after walking from the seaside Heights Boardwalk in hopes of finding a nice place to sit and eat. They had a huge sushi menu which my family loves. Aug 2 had dinner with my girlfriend last night very disappointed as her chicken parmigian was burnt I told waiter he said ok brought the check and said he was sorry about the burnt chicken I asked for a manager from another waiter asked again for a manager he never came when I left I told hostess how disappointed we were and left. I am a travel agent for many years know good restaurants when thing like this happens and are handled properly. Where to begin. Let's start w a positive. $3 Coronas. Contest = joke. It was clearly rigged if u know the emcee or the dj (both sucked). We were told by pretty much the whole place including employees that we should've won the individual contest (Jimi Hendrix costume), but they gave it to a GROUP..... grease. the place cleared out immediately and no one wanted to stick around this place: it was dead all night. Food is good but either CLARIFY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING BEFORE YOU ORDER or DON'T ORDER SUSHI!!! Could have easily been five stars, but down to two due to service and implementation. The night was snake bit by really dumb mistakes on behalf of the staff. Had dinner here in late June 2017 with my wife and child, along with some friends and their kids. Orders for the adults were two racks of ribs ($27 each), a burger ($13), and my "assorted sushi" platter ($25). Kids got chicken fingers & fries. When ordering, I had specifically asked about portion sizes on the sushi considering how it was priced against the other entrees. I was assured it was a big platter, and could easily feed two. Sounded good--that's what I ordered. My wife had asked about sides on the ribs and was told, as is also written on the menu, that it came with potatoes and seasonal vegetables. Kids meals came out with the apps. Little strange, but OK. Portion sizes were huge and the kids were happy. They were finished eating by the time the adult food came out and had started to get stir crazy, but whatever. This was mostly a win. Ribs & burger came out. Big-ass burger, looked delicious (and reportedly was). Ribs were something out of the Flintstones--huge. They were well prepared and tender, with a nice smoky flavor profile. Little thick on the sauce, but... it's ribs! Still missing were 1) the seasonal vegetables for the ribs and 2) my sushi. Our waiter went to find my sushi (probably should have done that before bringing the other plates out but I digress...) and a waitress came out to bring ketchup and inform the owners of the rib plates, after being asked, that the menu said "OR seasonal vegetable" (it doesn't). She offered to take the dish back, SWAP potatoes out for the seasonal veg if necessary, and left. My sushi still wasn't there. After a few minutes, a second waitress came out and asked if we were missing anything. I said my sushi. She left to go find it and, presumably, our original waiter. Finally, my $25 assorted sushi platter appeared. Remember, this was a "large platter" that could "easily feed two". It was about $12 worth of supermarket sushi well spaced on a comically large platter. Seven pieces of nigiri (crab, shrimp, tuna, salmon, snapper, yellow tail) and a single California roll cut into six pieces. Given the wait and the insultingly small amount of food on the plate considering the price, I asked for a manager. To their credit, a manager came over quickly and apologized for the miscommunication. But other than offering to pull the platter off the bill, he didn't resolve the issue. I had a very small amount of food to serve as my dinner that night. On taste alone, this could have been five stars. So, in summary, what mistakes were made? 1) Kids food should have come with the adults 2) All entrees should have been brought out at the same time 3) Sides listed on menu and ordered should have been the sides delivered. 4) Promised portions should be delivered portions. That, or a) lower the price of the sushi platter, b) include piece count on the menu or c) give the wait staff some more accurate descriptions. All the other dishes were reportedly very good and the manager did pull the sushi platter off the bill (I added it back, because it wasn't about scoring a free dinner). Everyone left generally happy, except for me, who left hungry. What's the ultimate takeaway? Either go in ready to repeatedly question your meal in-depth, because the waitstaff disagrees with the menu and each other, or go somewhere else. If I could do it over again, I'd choose the latter. read more

Fun place to go with a group for casual dinner and drinks. Service was very friendly and quick which we like. Vodka and club with lime was very refreshing, proportions seemed to be just right. The calamari came out but not the mussels ... After 10 min we asked the bartender again if she could check on the calamari and then it was brought out.. We had ordered sushi and a pie for meals the sushi came out but the pie didn't ... There was a lady next to me waiting for 15 min to order a drink so I stop the bartender to point it out and she said she was backed up and couldn't wait to get out of there. Food was TERRIBLE, not only tasteless but the meat was ready to walk off the plate, raw pink chicken francaise; not even hot, not even room temperature next to cold tasteless string beans and cold tasteless potatoes. I could not even eat it at all and just returned it to server not wanting to make a scene as we were with another party. We didn't have a good experience here tonight. It started out well, but the service was spotty and the food just wasn't good. We put in an appetizer order before we even put in the drink order hoping it would come out soon after the drinks. the other apps we ordered actually came out first and our server just seemed clueless all night. No water refills at all. Bizarre. People say the sushi is amazing - I'm not even sure what they are talking about. I came here on a Sunday night with a group of 6 friends. The wait was pretty short- only a couple of minutes and the cover was $10 per person. The place is big but it was very crowded and I was stepped on and shoved a few times. The floor is very slippery and dirty from people spilling their drinks and leaving their cups and bottles on the floor. I watched two women in heels completely wipe-out. There is a good variety of people from many backgrounds and ages and they play a mix of pop, hip-hop and dance music. The security also seems to be pretty on top of things. It's also open until 4am, if you like places that are open later than the average. read more

(1 star is too much) You have to ask if they are currently or plan on serving a large party when you sit because the kitchen CANNOT handle both. This has happened multiple times, but most recently the orders of a party of only 12-15 adults monopolized both the waitstaff and the kitchen. I was waiting on food with my party of 6 people, my food came out before everyone else so I waited (a half hour!) and by the time the rest of the food started coming out (still in pieces) my food was cold and we continued to wait. Absolutely one of my personal worst experiences. It is so bad, that I am putting down the fork to write this instead. On my vacation. On the last day. On the last evening here. First, the ice tea tastes like crab. I love ice tea. I love crab. The two together, however, is an inappropriate mélange of schizophrenic flavors. The Orchard Salad, is utterly shocking. What Orchard were they referring to? The dressing smelled like pure vinegar. Even after a few nose hairs were burnt off, I have it a shot... unfortunately. It tastes like an acid wash. The spider roll, made by "Chino" is a culinary disaster marked by shameless shortcuts. It was evident that the deep fryer had old oil that could have been Enough of the appetizers. Let's get to the main entrées. After a wait of 1 hour and a half(!!!) The seafood linguini I shared with my wife was aromatically indicative of a seafood compost. I left with an empty stomach, a revolted palate, and a newfound mistrust for humanity's audacity to use the phrase "Fine Dining and Entertainment." read more

Been going here for years and last time my experience was a little rough but I decided to give them anther shot. We walked in and stood at the door for a good five minutes before anyone addressed us. Eventually a young man walked over and said "what's up?" I told him we needed a table for five and he looked at me so confused and said "oh I'm not the hostess. I don't know how to seat people. Let me go find her". He walked away and she came back five minutes later. She didn't say hello or welcome us at all. She stared at us until I said "table for five". Rough start if you ask me. First we ordered drinks. My mojito was very average. Tasted like a pre made beverage- not worth $9. Then we ordered an appetizer and we ordered our food. I ordered the special and the server said they were out of it. My boyfriend tries to order Gruyere cheese on his burger and they were out of that too. I asked for a few minutes to look over the menu considering we had to pick again. He literally stood there and stared at us. Finally, we picked out entrees and our server told my sister and I that our food would "be a while because the kitchen is a mess and there is nothing I can do about it". Surprised- I just said okay. The other people we were dining with got their food and appetizers all at the same time so our table was stuffed with plates and by the time they ate their entrees, they we're cold. Our table received our food and my sister and I waited another ten minutes- I guess because the kitchen was "a mess". Once I got my filet mignon, it was extremely over cooked and my sisters was a perfect medium rare. So hard to cut. Barely even chewable. I sent mine back and got a new one. The server gave me such an attitude about it. Typically, this kind of mistake is not the servers fault at all. But the way he handled the overcooked steak as so terrible- it made my table think he sent back the wrong temperature on purpose. My sisters steak was perfect and mine was so over cooked. How can you possibly cook two filet mignons at the same time and have them come out so opposite? No one even apologized for the mistake. Someone should have said sorry at least once. I paid $35 for a steak I couldn't even chew even after I got it at the correct temperature. I was extremely surprised at the way the situation was handled. We all sat with empty drinks the whole time. He never came over and asked if we were okay or if we needed anything. My other sister asked for a side of mayo three times before she actually got it. I understand that it was probably the end of his shift, but the horrible service was so deliberate that I will never return and neither will my friends or family. There was a band playing and it was so loud that our table couldn't even speak to each other. Mind you- this was at 9pm. Keep the band away from diners, this is common knowledge. No one wants to to go out and have a terrible band blasting in their ear the whole meal. Do not waste your money here. You will be treated like crap and have a terrible meal and experience. Everything that went on made me cringe as a restaurant owner myself. They really let this place go, such a shame. This was a Monday so I can't even imagine how terrible the service is on a weekend day with more then one table at a time. read more

The atmosphere was pretty pleasant with live music, nice street view etc., but the food service was unacceptably slow. My family and I were waiting on an order for an hour and twenty minutes, and it still never made it out of the kitchen. Eventually, we had to leave without it. The waiter was professional about it and offered us free drinks while we waited, and requested a meeting with the manager for us. I had the chicken club sliders which I absolutely loved even though my stomach was bothering me. What a nice establishment. It was nice to frequent the shore and support the local economy, again. The menus is all over the board, but that was fine by us. Pizza, burgers, high-end sushi to standard fare entrees (steaks, pasta, etc.). The options were good for all. We sat for dinner with a group of six. The service in the kitchen was beyond slow, however the pleasantness of our waiter made up for the shortcomings. We waited an HOUR for our pizza appetizer. Yowzers. The size of the restaurant is HUGE. It is great for groups and a quick, nice dinner. My suggestion would be to iron out the kitchen kinks before the season starts. Would visit again. read more

I am impressed by the place to a point. The service was terrible. I personally had the sushi and it tasted very weird. The other people that ordered from the other side of the menu were satisfied. When we asked for soy sauce and chop sticks he gave our table a lot of sauce but clearly you put these things with sushi. He gave us a look like he was overwhelmed and it shouldn't be that hard. I waited for my food for over 45 minutes and it was just crab and cucumbers soaking in vinegar. To say I am not that impressed is an understatement. The service staff was really good except our server totally forgot about our appetizer i dont think he ever even realized. Food took a little long to come out and it was pretty slow but the food was good. I had the chicken and shrimp scampi which was good but a little heavy on the sauce making it slightly soupy. My bf had the special Northside burger, which was outrageous. It was definitely a better experience than expected. I was expecting a a few tables in a bar, which it wasn't definitely a nice dining experience.. I'll come again to try the sushi and hopefully get my appetizer :) read more
