As a foodie, I'm always excited to try new restaurants, so we decided to give this place a shot. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Service: The service was just okay at best. Out of three orders, two were incorrect (both with wrong pasta that we ordered), and I had to remind the server about my cocktails when the entrées were already served. We were also celebrating a little girl's birthday, which made the experience even more disappointing. After two desserts were already brought out, I had to ask the host to bring a candle as I didn't see my server. Eventually a plate with "Happy Birthday" written on it came out, and we were told the server was "working on it," but it felt like an afterthought. The server didn't come out herself or even acknowledge the birthday, which was a letdown for a special moment. Ambience: This place is just too loud to even have a normal conversation. It's not the music that's the issue -- it's the space. The restaurant feels very small and overcrowded, with tables packed too closely together. With that many people in such a tight space, the noise level becomes overwhelming. Because of that, I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for date nights or any occasion where you actually want to talk and enjoy the moment. The hubs and I went here this past Friday, 2-13, to celebrate his mama's bday along with his family members. It was a total of 8 of us. Our reservations were at 9pm, however they close at 10 (I didn't make the reservations. I would've never made reservations an hr. before close). When I tell y'all we still got great service at this late time, I was in disbelief! Our waitress, Andrea, was EXCELLENT!! She was so patient and she never let on that she was irritated by us being there so late! Also, the owner, Federico, came over and gave us a rundown on the specials and a little backstory on the restaurant, which was a nice added touch, considering the time. The food was absolutely great! I had the Pear Burrata salad. It was so tasty, but needed a little bit more dressing..but still great! I also tasted hubs shrimp scampi! DELISH!! Unlike any shrimp scampi I've ever had! He also ordered the oxtail flat bread..wait what?!! Y'all it was soo GOOD!! I had never heard of anything like this before! Please try it out if you like oxtails! Sugo is an amazing place for great food. Upon first step inside, the lighting is dimmed, making it the perfect ambience for a date night with your partner. The tables are decorated simply, but just enough to give the overall setting a good vibe. My server was very helpful, giving his opinions on all food items as soon as he was informed that it was our first time in. We were given bread for the table and ordered an appetizer to share, which was beyond flavorful. We each ordered an entrée, and our server was nice enough to allow us to make modifications to each of our meals to ensure it was the "perfect" presentation. The lighting is a bit dim even during the day, as blackout curtains are used to create a specific atmosphere. The decor and ambiance are lovely. It's not too loud or noisy inside, which makes dining feel more relaxed. However, the tables are placed quite close together, so conversations from neighboring tables can be easily overheard at normal speaking volume. Our server, Katie, was absolutely charming and radiated positive energy. She was knowledgeable about the menu, offered great recommendations, and was attentive throughout our meal. We had: - Classico Salad: The dressing was tasty and well-balanced, and the vegetables were fresh. I especially enjoyed the touch of crispy shallots. - Burrata and Prosciutto: The marinated tomatoes on the grilled bread were delicious, and the prosciutto was excellent. The burrata was good as well, though we're just not big fans of burrata in general. - Shrimp Scampi: Since I'm not great with spicy food, they kindly substituted the noodles to make it non-spicy. It turned out to be a very satisfying dish. - Chocolate Mousse (Dessert): An excellent choice, not too sweet and flavorful. Katie also offered me a melon sorbet sample when I was looking for ice cream, but none of the available flavors quite suited my taste. It was a thoughtful of her to do so. Parking was easy with free spots available on-site. The staff were warm and welcoming, setting a great tone for the evening. I understand that sort of a chef's choice type of situation. So no marks off for that. I was surprised at how slow it was at the time that we ate, but it was only about five 530 on a Wednesday. Our waiter was great. They kept the waters filled and checked on us several times during the meal. I really appreciate that. It is a little bit expensive for the two of us. I visited Italy earlier last year and this was very comparable. I got the shrimp pasta which was delightful and a large portion (I brought some home). However, it was a little spicy so beware. The service was wonderful, however we had to wait over an hour for our table of 8 when we had a reservation which was inconvenient. I started with the meatball al sugo, which was a generous sausage meatball with very flavorful sauce, rich tomatoes, and a perfect blend of Italian seasonings topped with parmesan cheese. For my entree, I chose the hanger steak, medium rare. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, mild smokey flavor with a great sear. The garnish was the perfect compliment.
