After being hit in a rear-end collision and our car being totaled, we had done a good internet search and decided that a Certified used Subaru Forester is what we wanted. We initially, went to Hendrick to look & test drive, which we did, but the car we wished to see was already sold. We did have a second choice picked just in case. With Gaelan Fraboni's help were able to test drive it and decided that it was the one. After going over options and financing, with Will Priest, we were able to drive home in our "new to us" Forester with a payment that is very comfortable and relatively short term. Of the few dealership experiences that I've had over my lifetime, I can not remember a more smooth, hassle free experience. The sales and finance team, were fast, efficient and professional. We bought our first Subaru in Virginia in February - a brand new 2018 Crosstrek. It was the Cool Grey Khaki color and we were in love with Trekky since it was our first car ever. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago - we had just moved to Chapel Hill and an SUV hit us from behind, totaling our Subaru. Thankfully all I had as a result was a concussion but the car was a total loss. This led us to the Hendrick Subaru on a Friday afternoon. Unfortunately, the 2018 Cool Grey Khaki Crosstrek turns out to be the most popular ever model/color at Subaru. No dealerships within 50 miles had what we wanted - at least not for 3 weeks at the earliest! Apparently people waited in LINE for this car when it came out. Since we were car-less, this had to be worked out that day. Carl Diederich worked really hard to help us get something that we liked and worked with our budget. I really liked his style - he was calm, presented the facts, answered our questions, gave us time to talk together. There wasn't any classic car salesman gimmicks or pressure, which as a carefully-research-before-you-buy person, I abhor. When we weren't happy with any of the options, he worked with his manager to find a car for us. The manager had a little bit of the sales-y tactics but that's to be expected. We ended up with a silver Crosstrek with additional features like Eyesight for the just slightly higher price than we were hoping to pay (based on our APR being higher than in February). I only wish they had more deals going on like the 0% APR, but that's a Subaru corporate thing, not Hendrick. When it came time to finance, Will Priest was so helpful. He walked us carefully through every single line and patiently answered all of our questions. He gave us advice when he was allowed and didn't rush us at all - which I'm sure could be tempting when it's 6 PM on a Friday and we've already decided to buy the car. He offered us the extra plans like dent repair, tires, service, etc. they always tack on at the end but didn't hassle us when we declined some of them. Not sure how I feel about this dealership. 2.5 stars for the service. Ive tried on so many occasions to keep dealing with the same person who makes claims/deals over the phone only to show up on the lot the next day and that person is not there anymore. I bought my car in 2019. I was sold the packages that comes with oil changes and warranties and such. Every time I took it in to take advantage of the offers made to me over the phone when scheduling, there would be a different story when I actually came in. I'm sure its all part of the system of selling cars, but at least have some consistency. This last time I brought it in for inspection because I was heading on a cross country trip. I was actually gonna trade it in for a bigger and newer outback but between not have a consistent salesperson to deal with and the lack of options because of COVID setbacks, I decided to just drive my car but have it looked at thoroughly by the maintenance team. After signing off that everything was OK, I came to find out about 100 miles into my trip that my oil was near empty. I have made several attempts to call Hendrick Subaru Durham and ask for help on what to do now that I'm on the road but all I have been told is pretty much fill it up and get things checked on my own dime. I'm not saying this dealership has poor service... Im just saying I wouldn't buy the extra packages that they sell you because in the end you will be on your own anytime you need to get things done outside of Durham. I also strongly urge them to work on keeping the sales people consistent because it sucks to get close to working on a deal only to start all over again. It's happened to me everytime I needed anything done. Thank god I'm moving far away to a city that has more options and hopefully better service. read more

No accountability for problems around here. A previous problem that they supposedly "fixed" happened again less than a year later. Of course this time they wanted me to pay to fix it. Got that issue resolved and finally picked up vehicle and had to wait for 20 minutes for them to bring my car around. During my lovely wait I got to listen to the annoying commentary of the staff. " Hey be sure to clean their car extra well and wash the windows they are spending a lot of money with us today". Like WHAT? That is the only time we take care of customers now? The staff here is very friendly. Jessica McCaffrey was the one helping me when I visited the first time for an oil change and tire rotation. She asked if I'd been to their dealership for service before, and I told her no because I had just moved to Durham from California. She welcomed me to the city, and we continued with some small talk about how I'm liking it here so far before I handed her my keys. After waiting for about an hour and a half (which is standard), Jessica let me know that my Impreza was ready. As she was ringing me up for the service, she handed me a sheet of paper with a list that she had made of good restaurants around town, and some fun things to do in the Raleigh/Durham area, as well as greater NC. I was very impressed by this. The fact that she took the time to make this list for me was very thoughtful and welcoming. It really made me feel like I chose a great place to move to. (This Southern Hospitality thing is still a foreign concept to me I suppose.) Shoutout to Jessica and the rest of Hendrick Subaru at Southpoint for providing friendly and personable service. I originally wrote a review on google about my not so pleasant buying experience. Higher up contacted me and tried to make it right ($$) so I took the review down. Now, 2 more weeks later I still don't have a license plate for my car and as with my previous issue, they tell you they will take care of something but never do. It took over two weeks for them to get in touch with the title people to find out what happened with mine. Had I not followed up every week, nothing would have got done. This company is the absolute worst and the headaches and inconvenience I have gotten from their incompetence to do their job, I wouldn't take a free brand new vehicle if they paid me. Do not buy from here, it will be the biggest headache and regret you will ever have dealing with a dealership. They are your stereotypical "salesman". read more

Performance Subaru is incompetent at best or intentionally misleading at worst. For the following reasons: [1] Their mechanic provided a $1400 estimate to replace a "broken" power seat track. Chapel Hill Tire chuckled at this and fixed it at no charge; apparently there a large flashlight rolling around under the seat caused a single wire to disconnect and they just plugged it back in. I'm not sure how Performance could have performed a visual inspection to diagnose a broken track because A) it's obviously 100% not broken and B) in order to see the track they would have had to move the 10" flashlight and disconnected wire out of the way. [2] Purchased a BMW there and within a few months had a high-pitched, consistent whine at hwy speed. Performance misdiagnosed and repaired the car so many times that not only did the problem continue, but the additional problems caused by their work ultimately required a complete engine rebuild with manifold replacement by an independent mechanic (see below for name). To be fair, the Acura purchased from them had no problems, though we didn't take it there for any repairs. [3] Cost estimates between Chapel Hill Tire and Performance Subaru as of mid-2017: -- Brake resurfacing: Performance ($600) vs. Chapel Hill Tire ($400) -- Fix Mirror assembly: Performance ($400) vs. Chapel Hill Tire ($160) -- Seat repair: Performance ($1200) vs. Chapel Hill Tire (Free) Recommendations: -- If you want your car repaired by an official dealer I suggest going to a different one. -- If you're looking for another mainstream shop look at Chapel Hill Tire. -- If you're looking for an independent mechanic/BMW/Mini specialist look into Ray Truett at Shade Tree Garage. read more

Took our Subaru Forester in because of noises in the rear tires. Paid for a bunch of service work. Still had the noise in the back. Googled Forester issues and turns out there's a bunch of issues with the 2016 Forester. Went back again and insisted on a road test to hear the issue. Turns out rear wheel bearing needs replacement after 60,000 miles. Never had wheel bearing issues with our Honda's. Took it to N Tune to replace the bearings as I completely lost faith with this service department and dealership. Always get a second opinion with this dealer. read more

I purchased a car from this dealership in Feb of 2023. When I purchased the car, we were told that we were the first owners (the car had been a fleet vehicle) and that there were no accidents. The carfax attached to the car at the dealership also said there were no accidents. I went to sell the car today because I no longer need it and the new dealership showed me the carfax that lists an accident on the car from the first owner on 12/23/22. This dealership also showed us that the paint job was different and that there was clear evidence of a repair. When I spoke to Hendrick they told me that there was no accident and that even if there was an accident it wouldn't impact the value of the car either when we bought it or when we tried to sell it. Rather than try to remedy the issue, the person I spoke just dismissed me, told me that I was just trying to get more money than it's worth (the car is worth what I asked for), and that I didn't understand how value and cost are different. I am so disappointed in this shady experience and Hendrick's complete lack of accountability and interest in helping fix the problem. Buyer beware. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. My fiancé and I bought a Subaru 2 years ago with a service package. At my last visit to get an oil change, I told them we were moving out of state for work and asked what can be done about the remainder of the service package. I was told by the service counter employee to just give the finance department a call and they will reimburse us the differences. It seemed simple enough but i have called 5 times, left 3 voicemails, and still haven't heard back from a single person. I rarely leave bad reviews but this place has been so unprofessional I can't let it go unnoticed. I also have multiple family members in the market for a new car and when I was confronted about my experience at the Subaru Hendricks dealership at Southpoint, I made it very clear to find a different place to purchase their new cars. read more

I used to drive to Johnson Subaru in Cary, but with Southpoint being so much closer and it having good reviews, I decided to try it. This might be a great place to purchase a car but I've yet to have a great experience with their service department. I'm either left standing in a room of associates with no one asking to help me, told I'm I'm in the red on some service items when I wasn't even in yellow on my previous visit not 3,000 miles ago, or stuck sitting in a waiting room that smells like exhaust for over an hour and a half for an oil change that I had an appointment for. I've given them more than enough chances to prove themselves better, but I'll be taking the drive to Johnson from here on out. read more

For some years we've had our '06 Outback serviced elsewhere, and after I experienced a power steering problem they diagnosed a slow leak in the system and said a replacement would run $300+. I've been adding a little fluid along and it was working fine. It would growl and you could feel it wasn't right but I'd add some fluid and it was ok. (Yes, I was planning to have it done but at my convenience.) That was the situation when I dropped it off at Performance yesterday morning. A few days ago I suddenly had the Check Engine light on and the Cruise light flashing and I thought Performance might know their way around the electrical system better which is why I took it there yesterday. At check-in the manager asked if I wanted some other things done and I told him No, just the lights and whatever was causing them. When I picked it up he gave me a list of $5,000+ of things they said it needs, including the power steering. When I started to drive away the power steering growled loudly. I topped off the fluid but it never went away. This morning the power steering failed completely, fortunately still in my neighborhood. I added fluid and drove home. After my visit to Performance, my perfectly usable car is now unusable. And I wonder what other surprises will turn up. Obtw Performance's quote for fixing the power steering is $700+. I will not be going back there. read more

I've taken my Subaby here a few times now, and I'm very pleased with the service so far. The only complaints I have are: it takes a little longer than I would like to get an oil change done (you should budget at least an hour) and their online appointment maker service thing doesn't seem to work, you should definitely just call directly. Ups: Super friendly staff that care about you and your car. Free wi-fi in the waiting lounge and a TV to watch if you're bored. Good hours and a free car wash with every service. Definitely check their website for coupons, otherwise students and UNC or Duke employees get 10% off, and sometimes they have 15% off Saturdays. read more

In most of my experiences, I have worked with a dealer who seems like he/she is out to get me and to make a quick buck at my expense. When my wife and I went to Performance Suburu on Saturday, we came prepared for battle. HOWEVER, we were shocked by how amazing we were treated during our time working with Suburu, especially our incredible salesman, Tristan Rios. Tristan was genuine, understanding, and dedicated to helping us find the right car for us. He did not push unnecessary add-ons or more expensive versions, but instead listened to our needs and helped us find the car of our dreams. Even more than helping us find the right car for us, Tristan clearly cared about us and wanted to do anything within his power to help us through the process. He explained things when we had questions, he took extra time to walk us through the basics of the car, and simply made us feel welcomed and wanted at Suburu. In addition to Tristan, we also had multiple managers come to find us to make sure that we were happy, and to congratulate us on our new car. They again did not seem at all about making money, but instead about making us happy. If you go to Suburu, you MUST request Tristan. Yesterday, 7/1/22, me and my fiancé (both active duty Navy) were traveling from Virginia Beach, VA to Nebo, NC. While passing through Durham, NC suddenly our 2015 Outback broke down leaving us stranded on the side of the road. We tried hard to find a mechanic near us but everything was either closed or almost closed so we had our car towed to the closest Subaru dealership (Hendricks Southpoint). We arrived just after 7pm and they were already closed. We had our car dropped off and then sat in the parking lot coordinating a local hotel and Lyft to take us there. While we were coordinating to get a room and ride, two employees approached us and asked us if we were ok and if we needed help. We explained to them what was going on and to our surprise, we were lucky enough to be talking to Ralph, the service manager and Ethan, one of the sales associates. Ralph took a few minutes to explain to us what to expect from Service and that he would be back in the morning and would personally assist us. Then Ethan seeing that we were stranded personally volunteered to drive us to our hotel. This was a huge help as we had our dog with us and were having a hard time finding a dog friendly Lyft. He assisted us in grabbing our bags and dog and drove us to the hotel. What an amazing young man! We had an excellent conversation with him, and had our entire experience we were having turned around by his kindness. Today, 7/2/22, we went back over to Subaru to get our car checked in to Service. Ralph met us, and as he said, personally took care of us and checked us in. They got us a loaner car so we could continue on our way and enjoy our 4th of July weekend while they figure out the issue! These two gentleman need to be publicly recognized for their amazing service! Literally, if I need to buy a vehicle, I would drive the 3 hours from our home to come to this dealership! I've been coming here to get my car serviced for a few years now and have never been disappointed. The service is always fast, and they have a nice waiting area with coffee and such. They also have a nice sectioned desk area that you can use to work on your laptop or for writing, which is a great idea! The staff is super friendly and I feel they have my best interest at heart. They're not looking to repair things just to make money (I've had these experiences at non-dealerships before, after getting second opinions). First-time Subaru buyers here! After 1 month, hubby and I are still happy with the purchase of a used 2019 Outback with 30,000 miles from Shadi Jabon at Henrick Southpoint. He delivered the car to our house for a test drive as we requested and we moved forward with the purchase. I did have to remind him several times to add the trunk privacy cover and the full set of floor mats as he agreed to do during the test drive. And finally, I had to vehemently insist when he handed us the keys and casually suggested we come back another day for these items. Not to mention they never removed obvious dings that he promised they would during the test drive. And when I pointed this out his response was to shrug and say "What do you want? It's a 2-year-old car!" I removed two stars for this misogynistic treatment of my concerns. Not only was it stressful to have to repeat myself over the four days, as he seemed to expect I would forget these things as easily as he continued to do, but what's the point in paying extra for a Certified used car from the dealer when it doesn't even have basic parts like the trunk cover and all 4-floor mats? Later, at financing/check out, I was disappointed to learn that they did not offer any 1-week return policy or anything, as Carmmax and others do, something I wish I had known earlier as this might have swayed my choices. Instead, I found out at the very last minute, just like I was shown my car with no dings removed at the very last minute (we never saw it the whole time we were there and were told they were working on that.) I removed another star for the Certified pricing with lack of basic even if limited return policy. I mean, if their offerings are legit, then why wouldn't they offer that? It would have made this major purchase that much more pleasant with the additional security that they stood behind their product enough to take it back if anything was wrong. I am hopeful the in-house maintenance services will make up for this initial insecurity and extra cost down the line, as this is the reason I decided to purchase from the dealership. read more

Customer since 2010. My 2013 Subaru Impreza was having transmission issues covered under warranty. Yesterday, Performance Subaru service (Brant) told me two different things (trans overfilled, then no trans fluid). They refused to honor the warranty, telling me I have to replace my transmission and talk to the shop that changed my transmission fluid in February (10 mo. and 30K miles ago). For some reason, since Mr. Transmission changed my fluid, they refuse to honor the warranty. They are blaming others to avoid warranty repair. AND to add to the negligence, Performance Subaru did NOT refill my trans fluid and did NOT tell me. Just handed me my keys and said call the Service Manager. Don't go here. I have lost all trust and I am filing a formal complaint. read more

Tried to schedule routine oil change and was quoted a four week interval to wait for appointment. Also they prefer for customer to drop off the car and ride shuttle bus home so they can keep your car for FIVE hours. They have a good car but the service department is not customer focused. read more
