Tonight was our first visit to Hendricks. Walking in, the restaurant is on the top floor and there is a blues bar downstairs with live music on the weekends ($5 cover, even if you eat at the restaurant). The restaurant is decorated with mason jar lights and old blues paintings. We both ordered the fried chicken. It comes with half a chicken, 2 sides, and a biscuit for $15. BF ordered sweet potato casserole and corn casserole. I ordered the baked beans and sweet potato fries. We were a little upset there was a $1 up charge each if you ordered mash potatoes, green beans, or other "premium" sides. The fried chicken was delicious! Crispy and well spiced breeding and nice juicy chicken! The sides were small (deff not worth the $5 if paying ala carte). The beans were ok, they had a lot of port fat but not much other flavor. The fries were good, but not crispy. BF liked the sweet potato casserole, said it was a little sweet and corn casserole was just ok. It's hard to find good home style chicken, but this was definitely good! The service was lacking. It took about 10-15 min to get noticed by our waitress and put a drink order in. It also took awhile when we asked for refills and the check. We also noticed about 6 tables that were bussed and ready for new customers but sat empty for at least half our meal... Meanwhile a line was waiting out the door to be seated. Overall, it was a good meal and would definitely return for more chicken, but hope that the service has some major improvements. read more

I have to admit, this place competes with anything in the STL area in terms of BBQ. The service was excellent and it had great food/experience to match. Everybody I spoke to was polite and thankful for us coming in. In my opinion this was the best overall food and service of any STL BBQ spot I have been in. My only "complaint" would be parking, but having to walk for a minute was WELL worth it. read more

I am a huge bbq fan so wanted to try this place out, kinda wish I didn't! The best thing about my meal were the fries, from a bbq place that says a lot. I got the two meat with ribs and brisket. The ribs were cold, pink in the middle, and tasted like they had been under a heat lamp for many hours. The brisket was good but still like warm. The meat did not pull off the bone and for good bbq that is what you want. We picked this spot because we had family in town but will not be going back! I am not one to give reviews. Matter of fact this is my first review given but if I could give a zero I would. We were seated and 20 minutes passed and were never acknowledged. Three waiters walked by our table and looked at us and kept walking. There were only 4 other tables occupied. The food is most certainly not good enough to be ignored for 20 minutes. The food was average at best in our previous experiences. I certainly understand restaurants being short staffed these days. However, it didn't appear to be the case in this instance. Picture it. Lunch with co-workers... So a co-worker suggested this place for lunch and said, "they have great BBQ." That alone had me thinking this place would deliver on flavor...sadly, it did not. Now, I'm no BBQ snob...but I've had my share of BBQ in the St. Louis area. For starters, my pulled pork sandwich arrived a bit on the cold side (the actual BBQ itself was cold, not hot like BBQ should be) ...and adding cole slaw for $1 was NOT a "game changer" as the waitress touted. In fact, the cole slaw was rather bland and I scraped it away from the BBQ after realizing such. The variety of sauces were okay until I actually tried them. None of them had good flavor. The sides I chose were potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was also bland and oddly, the potatoes were diced in small squares...and...they lacked that starchy flavor and texture of, you know, a potato. The baked beans are frankly (no pun intended), an embarrassment. Too sweet and totally taste like they are canned (and I've had some tasty canned baked beans). The co-worker who suggested this place ordered a Philly Brisket sandwich and I'll admit it looked good but alas my lunch was below mediocre and I doubt I'll revisit anytime soon. Service was alright. We did have to remind the waitress a few times for items and when the other co-workers asked for a to-go box, she returned with the smallest boxes ever...resulting in another request that she bring bigger boxes. The BBQ here is very good. A fun funky atmosphere with good service, mostly. I ordered what I thought was a selection of 3 different meats and 2 sides for $15. Turns out the server thought I wanted the 3 meat that cost $21. The menu is confusing and this was too much food and more than I wanted to pay. This brought a bad end to what otherwise would have been a very nice evening. FIX your menu so your staff and guests are not put in an auqward position. read more

When the meal came it was excellent. Getting there was a little tough. When we first arrived we were told we had a 20 minute wait. No big deal, we'll get a drink. After sitting at the bar for 10 minutes and no service we were called to our table. At the table, my wife tried to order 4 different beers off the menu and each was out of stock. This place is 10 mins from where I work and from where I live but it's really in the cut. I spent a lot on food and I'm full with enough left overs to feed two. Let me start by saying I'm a regular Hendricks supporter, often suggesting to friends they dine here. But my experience last night (June 30) was disappointing. The service was very slow (1 hour and 45 minutes start to finish). The brisket had a wide fat cap that couldn't be chewed. The corn casserole was dry and tasteless and the sweet potato fries were tough. In addition, the restaurant was super hot. This is honestly the best BBQ I've ever had in STL, maybe even ever in my life. I got the Meat Plus 3, brisket, Mac and cheese, coleslaw, and cheddar grits. The grits were AMAZING. I was worried i made the wrong choice by getting the grits and the Mac, but i didn't regret the grits at all. The Mac and cheese was very good, but I'd probably pass on it in favor of a veggie to accompany my grits next time. The brisket was also very good, no sauce needed. The coleslaw is an interesting consistency, but i liked it. Good flavor! I also had a glass of the smoked sangria as a starter, delicious and effective. I had reservations for 10 on Father's Day 6/19/22 @2pm. We all arrived and were seated promptly. Our server Jessie was very attentive with drinks and our appetizer order. Our party was ready to order entrees when Jessie approached our table and informed us there would be no ribs for order. My concern is that this information should have been presented to us prior to us being seated. Who doesn't want ribs at a place that prides themselves on BBQ ??? This place used to be pretty good. I liked it, I want to still like it. But, I just can't. I understand that bbq restaurants can be hit and miss. It's understandable to have an off night when the restaurant has a slow night or two. Food can't be cooked to order because it takes time to prepare. Holding cases are used to keep meat "fresh" and when the restaurant has leftovers, they get repurposed in sides (leftover meat in beans, greens,, etc.). But, you can't use those leftovers as a main course and expect customers to be happy. I had a two meat combo tonight, brisket and sausage. Neither was fresh, neither was good. The brisket was tough and the sausage was just bad... really bad. I'd guess it was several days old. Both were slathered in a spicy and flavorful sauce, but it wasn't good enough to cover how bad the meat really was. Portion sizes have gotten smaller. It was only 3 strips of the brisket, which was dry, with collard greens, baked beans, and sweet potato fries. The collard greens were disgusting, but maybe because that's my first time trying them. The baked beans were mediocre - I've had better beans out of a can. The sweet potato fries came 10 minutes after my food, which took longer than I had expected to come out. However, the fries were delicious. There are 3 sauce offerings: house, STL (spicy and good), and sweet. They are a little pricey for the quantities given and it took a long time to receive my food and check - I almost missed my movie. read more

We had a party of eight and as soon as we walked in the bar tender took care of us, nice selection of beers. Haven't been here since the new management. The food is really bad. The brisket came out with some kind of red sauce slopped on it. The meat was fatty, watery and paper thin. When the food arrived, both ribs and Mac and cheese were tepid; not cold, but far from a reasonable dining temperature. I don't dine out in St. Charles often, but I'd definitely eat here again. The decor and location are great. The menu is good, too. Some standouts include the bacon braised greens and deviled eggs, although I thought the meat and house made sauces were average. This will sound odd, but I liked that the portions weren't gigantic. I feel better about indulging on a small amount of very good food than gorging myself on something mediocre. Anyway, this was a great place to meet friends for lunch. read more
