We were very excited to try this place but did not have a great experience. We ordered a basket of cornbread. There were four very small mini muffins plus two that were a little bigger. Think the size of mini muffin bites for $6. The butter and honey butter were rock hard, the jam was pretty tasty. The three of us ordered different meats. The meats were served cold. I ordered chicken, the flavor and sauce were good. The beans were homestyle so just beans. My husband liked them, I prefer a chunkier bean. My sweet potato was the biggest I have seen. Not much cinnamon but was pretty good. My son ordered the rib tips and pulled pork. He thought his meal was just average. The Mac and cheese was okay and the onion rings were tempura battered with no flavor. I would not recommend. Solid Ribs, good portion size, great service. I was a little worried when I sat down and read the disclaimer basically saying because of our process we reserve the right to be out of anything. Came with barely any to no sauce which is a good thing true Q doesn't need sauce I am ashamed to say I couldn't finish them took 4 bones home Only negative was there was some silver skin left on ribs (rookie error there boys). But the cook was great and the flavor was on. Buddy ordered smoked sausage I pilfered a little and it was incredible. Slaw was take it or leave it average at best but the cornbread was seriously delish. All in all will be back next time I. Not nearly enough food for $15+ dollars. I got the smoked turkey and it was 4 oz plus two sides-- but they were in tiny ramikens (the size you would normally use for dipping sauce). The drinks are CRAZY expensive, a BOTTLE of bud light or blue moon is $7! Drafts are $8. The turkey was okay, but kind of dry. The Mac n cheese was super salty, but the greens were good. They only have three sauces here, and they all kind of taste the same. The place is full of indifferent, teenage servers who are more interested in socializing with each other than serving you. Riding a bike on the Katy Trail, me and my buddy stopped here for lunch. What a waste of $50. The ribs we had were greasy with too much fat. The sausage was rubery and the brisket was tasteless. The sides were okay. The ambiance was okay but it was barely cool on a hot day. The service was bad. The place was not busy but it took us 15 minutes to get our soda after we ordered and a half hour to get our food. I attended the second annual Smoke and Whiskey Dinner with a few close friends. Chef Marc and his team put on the perfect evening for us. The featured distillery was Sazerac, which I'd only known as a drink, but it's actually a co-op of distillers with offerings of whiskey, vodka and other fine liquors. The first course was a smoked red pepper hummus with crispy wontons paired with a spring berry smash vodka cocktail. Second course was a smoked turkey confit and wild rice soup paired with an orange rip cocktail featuring Southern Comfort 101. Third course was a radish and mixed greens salad with a smoked white balsamic vinaigrette paired with a Caribou Crossings lime and green chartreuse cocktail. The fourth course was a hand cut strip steak with a potato croquette and squash paired with a 1 oz pour of Col. Taylor whiskey served neat. Our final course was a vanilla bean cheesecake with smoked chocolate and balsamic glaze paired with adult coffee featuring Feeney's Irish Cream. From the Decour inside, to the beautiful deck overlooking frontier park, this is the perfect atmosphere for a date. This to me would be your higher end barbecue joint. I like the extensive bourbon list. I had the brisket, turkey combo with two sides. They have great macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and potato salad. All of it was delicious. I used the Yelp app to check in at Hendricks and we received a free appetizer. I saw an order of pork nachos go by and it looked amazing, but I went with the pork turnovers. There were 5 good sized turnovers in the order. The pork filling in a crisp crust was very good and the sauce, served on the side, was the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. The pork sandwich was topped with slaw, and my brother gave it a thumbs up. My sister-in-law had the Cobb salad. It was an very good salad, with lots of toppings. The ribs were dry rubbed and were average. We had to pay extra for sides and we were very disappointed. The sides were so small for $6.00. I wouldn't mind the size of the sides if they were priced correctly. For dessert I chose the blueberry cobbler. The pluses were that it arrived piping hot and it was loaded with blueberries. The cons were that it took a long time to arrive ( but maybe it was made to order, so then it would be understandable), the crust was kind of bland, and the blueberries stained our teeth. So, if you are on a date or going somewhere after dinner, pass on the blueberry cobbler. A band was warming up while we were finishing our dinner, and I was glad we were leaving before it got too loud. Hendricks is a large restaurant with family friendly seating. I liked the furnishings and decor, and it looked like they had a nice outside area. I recommend Hendricks for families and times when you are up for an energetic atmosphere. read more

Hendricks provides quality Q in a comfortable setting. I've been here several times and the experience has always been very good with service, food, and music. (There's live music and the website has a schedule.) Chicken was the Thursday special so I took it. Hendricks provided a flavorful, nearly half chicken--breast, wing, drumstick and thigh. Well seasoned, smoky and lightly sauced the breast was about as moist as you can make it. The other pieces were a delight. Table sauces include Hot, Sweet, House and STL. The last was presumably St. Louis style but with cayenne was the hottest of the four. It lacked the sweet, smoky taste I associate with St.Louis sauce. The Hot sauce included pepper sauce. I liked the House the best for its light, sweet heat. The Sweet was mild and without smoke or heat. I took greens and creamy coleslaw for my two sides. Chunks of bacon and onions complemented the lightly cooked greens. Hendricks added pepper sauce or vinegar--something I would have preferred to add myself because it was a little heavy. Coleslaw was simple chopped cabbage with a bit of cream dressing. A littlesalt improved it. Service, as stated, was very good. Hendricks is just about a block south of the historic district on Main Street. read more

The family had just arrived to St Louis and we were hungry after 2 hours in the air. I've heard a lot about St Louis BBQ so as a good Texan, I said to myself, self...BBQ let's see if they got game. I noticed most places closed at 8/9 pm. I don't know if its The Rona or normal so heads up. Due to time, we selected this establishment. It's located next to a huge casino on the river. You'll notice that parking is hard to find in front of the place. It's a historical looking place next to regular homes. We walked in and you can smell smoke flavor. The establishment's aesthetics are a mixture of Soul and Animal Body part. The customer service was A+ since we entered. The building has different tiers in their seating area and the bathrooms are located at the entrance next to the bar (Note: no baby changing station in the men's room). Our server continued the positive hospitality. We ordered our traditional pork ribs, brisket and the sides (sweet potato casserole and green beans). The service was quick as the food arrived in the blink of an eye. The flavor was original coming from eating tons of Texas BBQ. The smoked taste was found in each bite in the brisket. They had 3 table sauces and they all were good I suggest the ST. The casserole was sweet and full of pecans. The green beans had a great combination of meat, bacon and smoke taste in them. The ribs a bit lacking in meat yet real good. Finally, we were offered peKAN pie and a fat guy can't reject that. It was homemade style and warmed up. When you leave a young person in charge that you deem a "manager" who doesn't understand customer service, that doesn't apologize, but only makes excuses and places blame on her server for not "being able to handle a few big tables," you lose customers. Like us. Like the table of five that had a $145 bill. Also us. I won't go again. One star for ultra poor, immature management. We didn't complain to get our bill reduced, which it wasn't. We complained because more than one table came in after we did and got their food first. Because we waited 45 MINUTES to get our food on a Sunday evening, having arrived before 6 pm. I mean, isn't it all basically cooked already? They're not making the pulled pork or ribs to order, in the moment. So...??? Did the server not put in the order? Did the kitchen mess up? We don't know. We only got excuses. We were frustrated. Sugarfire sets the bar for me in St. Charles. However, this is a very close second. Got The Whole Shebang (brisket, pulled pork, sausage, turkey, babyback ribs, and pork spare ribs) along with 4 sides: mashed taters & gravy, sweet potato casserole, fried potatoes, and beans. First, the meats... Pulled pork was cooked properly, a decent infusion of smoke, tender, a smidge dry, but overall a B+. Brisket was overcooked, lacked flavor, and the fat was awfully chewy, making this the only failing grade among the meats F-. The turkey had a great smoke hint to it and was still pretty moist: A-. Both types of ribs were seasoned, slathered, and slow smoked to near fall off the bone perfection and both get a solid A. The real winner, which is usually something I bypass, was the sausage. It's probably the best sausage I've ever eaten, perfect texture, flavor (hello smoke), size, and gets an A+. Sides: Only ate the sweet potato casserole & mashed taters and gravy, which by the way were real and still a little chunk of potato here and there and they were hands down the best part of the meal. Holy smokes, these could be the best mashed taters and gravy I've ever had. A+++ The sweet potato casserole was more savory than expected. Normally they're prepared to be a precursor for dessert or a pseudo dessert, but not these. If you prefer more savory and substance to sweetness, these will be right up your alley. Solid A. Also, if you're a fan of slightly boozy drinks and blueberries, the Jameson black & blue was superb. I thought it would be too sweet with the sugar, apple juice, and pineapple juice, but the cherry bitters calmed it down into a semi-sweet blueberry heaven. A+ drink. Great BBQ restaurants slowly smoke meats until delectibly tender. Unfortunately, at Hendrick's it may feel like it takes longer to get service than the time it takes to smoke a brisket. I used to enjoy Hendricks, but experienced the worst service and manager I've ever encountered. Hendricks is the first place I've walked out and left in disgust. Why? Horrible waitress and totally non responsive manager after being made aware of the situation. After waiting 15+ minutes to order after being seated by hostess we left 18 minutes later with still no drinks (not even water). Over half an hour, other tables had their drinks, dinner and were as almost done our waitress still had not brought us water and drinks. Our waitress was standing doing nothing behind the bar when we left. While even good restaurants have isolated server issues, any decent manager works to rectify it. Here, even the manager failed to bringing us drinks, get us a new server, etc. Too many good places to eat than to patronize bad service. . read more

I know everywhere seems to be short-staffed lately, but they had several people working and seemingly ignoring the growing line of people at the door (thankfully we had already been seated). However, it still took 10-15 minutes before a server came over to us. When we got our food 30 minutes later, it was lukewarm. The grandkids got kids meals for $7...a hotdog with a small musslemans cup of applesauce. Our sandwiches didn't have any if the extras listed in the menu (lettuce, tomatoes onion). I had the beef brisket and the baby back ribs with 3 sides. The portion was good and I think it was enough for two people if you also get an appetizer. Brisket was tender and so was the baby back ribs. They had several bbq sauces. We mixed them up. I like the st. Louis style and I added the spicy one. I got the crackling pork as an appetizer. First the server took forever to even get to our table(the restaurant was very empty), then when we finally got our order taken she was not in a good mood. She was very short and was not a help when trying to order. Seemed like she did not want to be there. I asked about the Moonshine shakes they used to have and she was short with an answer. We did not feel welcomed at this point. After we got our food the BBQ was very disappointing and the order was wrong. I upgraded to the premium sides and never even got what I ordered. We enjoyed another delicious lunch at Hendricks BBQ. To say that it is the best BBQ in St. Charles is an understatement - it is by far the best BBQ I have enjoyed - anywhere. Their meats are smoked and so tender. I have tried them all - the brisket and ribs are my two favorites, but the pulled pork and chicken are close seconds. They are all good, you cannot go wrong with any selection. Excellent burgers and fries. They have the biggest, crispiest, tender onion rings you will find at any restaurant. I cannot go in there without ordering them and taking half of them home. (They reheat great in an air fryer). The platters include choosing from 12 sides! Something for every age and tastebud. After eating 'most' of the food, we still had dessert - a warm chocolate chip cookie, the size of a dinner plate, with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. There are cookies and then there are the homemade cookies you remember your mother making - this taste totally homemade. Our server was wonderful - she was so attentive and genuine. After our loved one passed away, we reached out to Hendricks to host a lunch for 50+ people. This team pulled together a fabulous lunch, excellent brisket/pulled pork and amazing sides. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this was the worst food experience I've ever had. We live out of state and on May 1st we were visiting for my sons college graduation. On other visits we had eaten here and loved the food. We were excited to have iconic ST. Louis BBQ. Although the name and structure are the same the food is not. The waitress told us they had new owners. She also told us the owner was there but didn't want to come talk to us. It was a Sunday at 5pm. Well before closing. She said they had been super busy all day. These are no excuse for terrible food. If all you have left is dried out meat and burnt rock hard breads just tell us your out. My son got the chicken sandwich on a biscuit with gravy on top. His biscuit was rock hard on the bottom. No amount of gravy would make that edible. The corn bread tasted like dirt it was so dry. The butter they gave us was frozen. So it was impossible to spread The fried pickles looked like they dumped all the crumbs from the bottom of the fryer on top of the unbattered pickles. The brisket was beef Jerky dry. I still can't believe the owner refused to talk to us. I had already paid my bill and left a tip so I wasn't being a crazy customer. Not a big fan of most BBQ places, especially the 'big name' guys, and Hendricks didn't change that at all. $14 brisket sandwich, not enough meat to cover the bun. How can you justify that? Meat was tough, meaning they probably rushed it. Just not good. Side of baked beans was ok, and deviled eggs were good, but it's hard to mess up canned beans and deviled eggs.
