I brought my Ford Escape to Carman Ford because I had a nail in my tire. After looking at it, they…read moretold me the tire was irreparable and needed to be replaced. They also recommended all 4 new tires. cool! I explained to Jevon at the front desk that I have a tire-specific extended warranty through Assurant that covers repair or replacement when a tire cannot be repaired. Instead of contacting Assurant to verify my coverage, Jevon told me they only cover "things with fluids in them, like engines." I told him that was incorrect because I specifically purchased tire coverage. When I asked if anyone had actually called Assurant, I was initially told his admin had called. After I questioned that, the explanation changed and I was told that the mechanic just "knows what they cover and don't cover." At that point, I was frustrated and asked for my vehicle back. While waiting for my car, I CALLED ASSURANT MYSELF. They confirmed that YES, my warranty covers tire replacement when the tire is determined to be irreparable, exactly what Carman Ford had just told me about my tire. When Jevon came outside, I told him I had just spoken with Assurant and confirmed the replacement was covered. His response was, "Oh, well do you want me to go back and tell the mechanic?" Why should the CUSTOMER have to call the warranty company, verify the coverage, and then educate the dealership about it? What made the experience even more concerning was that while speaking with Jevon, I noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from him. I asked him if he had been drinking that morning. He said no, that he drank the night before, and then asked me, "Why, do I smell?" I told him yes, he smelled like alcohol. He responded that he would go get a mint and apologized. I'm only stating exactly what I personally observed and what was said to me. The entire experience was frustrating, unprofessional, and completely avoidable. Had I trusted the information I was given and paid for the tire myself, I could have paid out of pocket for something my warranty covers. I brought my Ford Escape to a Ford dealership because I expected professional service and for my warranty coverage to at least be VERIFIED before I was told it wasn't covered. Extremely disappointing experience.
