Definitely go here for the views! Great over water seating with views of the bay and Coronado bridge. It's also more towards the end of Seaport village where it's a little quieter. There's also a nice outdoor seating area at the front, indoor and upstairs area. I would say the menu is mediocre considering all the other great seafood restaurants in SD. Came for here brunch on a random Monday with some friends right before we left for the airport. Hostess was super friendly and sat us up stairs where the views were beautiful and the breeze was refreshing. The food was out quickly and everything was delicious. I had the chicken and waffles. Nice spot at the Marina in the water. Pricey but not too bad. The menu is pretty good too. You overlook the water and the service is good. Seafood, salads, appetizers and alcohol. Food - 5 Stars We started with the Tempura Rock Shrimp, which was really good! The Yuzu honey aioli dipping sauce was amazing. Loved this dish! My wife had the Chilean Seabass (which - side note - I always think is funny because FYI Chilean Seabass is not actually seabass. Look it up! It's actually a Patagonian toothfish!). Anyhow, it was amazing! I stole a few bites. I didn't get a photo of it, but it was a good portion and the fish was cooked perfectly. The risotto paired so well with the fish and had a ton of flavor. Highly recommend this dish! I had the Swordfish Sandwich. Everything about this sandwich was really really good. The fish was exactly how I expected it to be, meaty! Loved the brioche bun and the sauce. However, I would have preferred more sauce. If I were to order this again, I would see if they could give me some extra sauce. The sandwich came with French fries. I wasn't a big fan of the seasoning. The French fries tasted like bbq chips, and I don't like bbq chips lol. I somehow didn't notice that on the menu it actually says "BBQ spiced", and had I saw that I would have just asked for the fries without the seasoning. But, they were still cooked well and so if you like bbq flavor chips then you will love these fries. For dessert we got the chocolate brownie. It was AMAZING. The brownie was soft, moist, and very rich in flavor. I would totally get this again - and next time I would ask for extra ice cream. Especially if you're planning on sharing this with someone, an extra scoop of ice cream would be good. View - 5 Stars Epic view truly. Obviously a big reason why many people including ourselves come here. We wanted the view for our date night, and it really did not disappoint. We had dinner around 7pm so we got to see the sunset which made it even more romantic. TIPS: There was a pretty big parking lot, but we still took an uber here instead. It was our first time and didn't know what to expect. Also, Seaport Village closes up at 9pm, so if you're planning on walking around the village after your dinner, make sure you plan your dinner time accordingly. Definitely make reservations ahead of time. When we arrived, they were turning people away that didn't have reservations. Fortunately for us, we did! :) If you plan on going later in the evening and sit on the balcony, it's semi-indoors. Basically it's outdoors, but covered, and it got pretty cold for me. Served 3 appetizers, TEMPURA ROCK SHRIMP, HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS, and CRAB CAKES. All three delicious, and I adored the latter two. My husband and I shared a LOADED WEDGE SALAD and the FISH N CHIPS, while our kids enjoyed CHICKEN STRIPS WITH A SIDE OF FRIES and GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH WITH A SIDE OF FRUIT. Seems half of the adults ordered the Fish N Chips, some of our party also enjoyed BUFFALO ONION RINGS, JAY BIRD'S™ CHICKEN SANDWICH, and JAY BIRD'S™ CHICKEN & WAFFLES. Such a cool spot to have lunch. This was my first time but it won't be my last. The upstairs dining is awesome and gives you a great view of ocean. Absolutely beautiful. Lets get into it. Food: We had a few options like always. I mean why not right! We started with * Tempura Rock Shrimp - this was crazy good. I did not expect the flavors to punch me in the mouth like it did. Crispy, light batter, the glaze and toppings really made it a phenomenal appetizer. I would highly recommend this dish. It is small in quantity but if feeds 2 people easily. * Crab Cakes - the crab cakes are good they do have a nice crispy texture on the outside but the inside is tender and packed with your normal Crab Cakes flavors. Not a bad choice. It was fresh and the portions are above average. * Balboa Rolll - somehow this roll with so many different flavors and textures went so well together. Cuddos to the chef for this one. The scallions on top changed the entire roll. I really loved this one. Would definitely order it again. Portion size was larger than the average roll. * Overstuffed Bacon & Eggs - this one was crazy!! It's literally a tower of deviled egg yoke with bacon, bits of celery and paprika on top. This was my least favorite only because the amount of yoke compared to the actual egg you get didn't add up. Once the egg is gone you're left with a mountain of egg yoke. It's way to much for my taste. The yoke also seemed a little dry and pasty. For deviled egg lovers this is a dream come true. * Skirt Steak & Eggs - wife said it was really good and the red chimichiri complimented the steak just right. The portions were large, the steak was juicy and cooked perfecrly to her request. With skillet fried smahed potatoes and toasted buttered bread. Very good option for steak lovers. Service: The staff was great from the check-in booth to the waiter everyone did such a great job and was so polite. I couldn't help notice that everyone was smiling and super helpful. This is a great team working at that restaurant. Bar tenders were on top of drinks which was nice to get your drink shortly after ordering. Atmosphere: It's an ocean side restaurant or should I say on the ocean restaurant with wall to wall windows showing the ocean and the beautiful San Diego landscape. Really enjoyed the area and activities. Price: The appitizers were above average prices but hey!! Totally worth it. It ranged from $16-$30 per dish, its really not too bad for the quality of food and service. Location: It's located in Seaport Village which has so many different places to try and plenty of businesses to walk and find some really cool things. We were really excited to try Shorebird because of the location and the reviews, but unfortunately it ended up being one of the most disappointing restaurants. We ordered a dozen oysters, and they were by far the biggest disappointment. Many of them looked rough before we even touched them--damaged, shriveled, and sitting with little to no natural oyster liquor in the shells. They didn't look fresh or properly presented. The texture was unpleasant, and several had a strong chemical, almost kerosene-like taste. We couldn't even finish them because we were genuinely worried something wasn't right, and I didn't feel great afterward (I can't say for certain it was the oysters, but it definitely didn't leave me feeling confident). What surprised me even more was that our server never asked why we left multiple oysters untouched. Most restaurants serving quality seafood would at least check if something was wrong. Beautiful location, but unfortunately the view seems to be carrying the restaurant. For the prices they charge, both the food quality and the service should be much better. We had a show at the Shell and have been wanting to try this restaurant since they revamped the location. We had an amazing time here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Our server was WONDERFUL! She was attentive, sweet and chatty. The food was really good too. Here's what we ordered: Overstuffed deviled eggs- holy cow. A bit too much yellow for me but once I scraped some off, they were so yummy. Caesar salad- we shared this and it was a perfect size. The fresh anchovies were delicious. Burger- my husband said this was super yummy. Chilean sea bass- love sea bass and this one did not disappoint. The risotto was rich and creamy and the fish was flaky and very tasty. Shorebird opened on the seaport this past August. Ambiance: the restaurant is located over the bay and has great waterfront views. The evening views are limited at this time of year, so I'd more recommend going for brunch or lunch for bayfront views. The hostess recommended we sit upstairs, which I thought was a poor recommendation. Upstairs is warmer, but views aren't as great since the downstairs has floor to ceiling windows. I wished we sat downstairs. There is also a small bar upstairs. I didn't get a great view of the downstairs. Service: Service was ok. The roll had no taste that we left more than half, and the oysters were shockingly small, about the size of a nail bed. It just didn't live up to the quality I was expecting at all. Service didn't help either. Our servers had little to no knowledge of the menu, which made the experience even more frustrating. We eventually moved to the bar hoping things would improve, and while the service was slightly better there (thanks to who I believe was the bar manager), it still didn't make up for everything else. Mother daughter day means we need lunch on the water and I had been wanting to check out this spot since it opened and it did not disappoint. It was a Sunday and then I remembered it is graduation season so it was busy and for it looking like a large space on the outside I would say it is not huge on the inside and there were less tables that I would be thought but there is a small upstairs area that had bar seating and we were able to snag a seat up there. It is a small bar only about 6 seats or so but I liked that it wasn't super packed upstairs. I saw they had a small sushi menu and that they had salmon belly so I had to get it because it is my favorite and it was soo good I honestly could have ordered multiple plates of that as my meal. We also got the avocado fries which the sauce that came with I really enjoyed and it is definitely a sharing item we took half of it home. For our meal I ended up getting the fish and chips it just sounded good and I did bbq seasoning on the fries. Everything was really food and they also have a great wine selection which is a plus.
