We had a midday reservation for 15, 11 adults and 4 kids, were seated at three tables. Love this simplistic on the water, view of the water, and dine on the water restaurant. Served 3 appetizers, TEMPURA ROCK SHRIMP, HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS, and CRAB CAKES. All three delicious, and I adored the latter two. My husband and I shared a LOADED WEDGE SALAD and the FISH N CHIPS, while our kids enjoyed CHICKEN STRIPS WITH A SIDE OF FRIES and GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH WITH A SIDE OF FRUIT. Seems half of the adults ordered the Fish N Chips, some of our party also enjoyed BUFFALO ONION RINGS, JAY BIRD'S™ CHICKEN SANDWICH, and JAY BIRD'S™ CHICKEN & WAFFLES. We ended our lunch with desserts: VALRHONA CHOCOLATE BROWNIE and, now one of my favorites, PINEAPPLE CARROT CAKE. I would love to return again when revisiting San Diego. We finally managed to get out for a family walk and decided to stop by this place for lunch. It was on May 17th (Sunday), so there was a line and we had to wait about 40 minutes, but we definitely weren't disappointed :) The food was excellent and very delicious. The menu selection isn't huge, but I think everyone can find something they'll enjoy. There are also options for kids, even though you won't find them on the menu -- we ordered chicken strips for the children, and they disappeared instantly :) Either they were incredibly tasty or the kids were just very hungry! Such a cool spot to have lunch. This was my first time but it won't be my last. The upstairs dining is awesome and gives you a great view of ocean. Absolutely beautiful. Lets get into it. Food: We had a few options like always. I mean why not right! We started with * Tempura Rock Shrimp - this was crazy good. I did not expect the flavors to punch me in the mouth like it did. Crispy, light batter, the glaze and toppings really made it a phenomenal appetizer. I would highly recommend this dish. It is small in quantity but if feeds 2 people easily. * Crab Cakes - the crab cakes are good they do have a nice crispy texture on the outside but the inside is tender and packed with your normal Crab Cakes flavors. Not a bad choice. It was fresh and the portions are above average. * Balboa Rolll - somehow this roll with so many different flavors and textures went so well together. Cuddos to the chef for this one. The scallions on top changed the entire roll. I really loved this one. Would definitely order it again. Portion size was larger than the average roll. * Overstuffed Bacon & Eggs - this one was crazy!! It's literally a tower of deviled egg yoke with bacon, bits of celery and paprika on top. This was my least favorite only because the amount of yoke compared to the actual egg you get didn't add up. Once the egg is gone you're left with a mountain of egg yoke. It's way to much for my taste. The yoke also seemed a little dry and pasty. For deviled egg lovers this is a dream come true. * Skirt Steak & Eggs - wife said it was really good and the red chimichiri complimented the steak just right. The portions were large, the steak was juicy and cooked perfecrly to her request. With skillet fried smahed potatoes and toasted buttered bread. Very good option for steak lovers. Service: The staff was great from the check-in booth to the waiter everyone did such a great job and was so polite. I couldn't help notice that everyone was smiling and super helpful. This is a great team working at that restaurant. Bar tenders were on top of drinks which was nice to get your drink shortly after ordering. Atmosphere: It's an ocean side restaurant or should I say on the ocean restaurant with wall to wall windows showing the ocean and the beautiful San Diego landscape. Really enjoyed the area and activities. Price: The appitizers were above average prices but hey!! Totally worth it. It ranged from $16-$30 per dish, its really not too bad for the quality of food and service. Location: It's located in Seaport Village which has so many different places to try and plenty of businesses to walk and find some really cool things. Parking: It's a pay to park lot but we found parking fairly easy but it is pricey to park there. I think we paid $24 for a couple of hours. read more

Beautiful setting for a beautiful view. We went for Happy Hour based on times posted online, but the bartender stated it was over, definitely recommend checking on official status. I hope the business updates online info, and considers extending the hours, we were there before 6PM. We ordered a couple drinks as we were trying out different spots. I still got the Passion Fruit Martini and it was good, my friend ordered the Scratch Margarita and was not impressed. Perfect dinner spot for sunset on the water! We split the 2 crab cakes between 2 people which was the perfect size. The seafood was amazingly fresh. Both the sushi rolls and the nigiri were delicious. The lemon asparagus risotto and wedge salad were the perfect fresh addition to our meal. Mother daughter day means we need lunch on the water and I had been wanting to check out this spot since it opened and it did not disappoint. It was a Sunday and then I remembered it is graduation season so it was busy and for it looking like a large space on the outside I would say it is not huge on the inside and there were less tables that I would be thought but there is a small upstairs area that had bar seating and we were able to snag a seat up there. It is a small bar only about 6 seats or so but I liked that it wasn't super packed upstairs. I saw they had a small sushi menu and that they had salmon belly so I had to get it because it is my favorite and it was soo good I honestly could have ordered multiple plates of that as my meal. We also got the avocado fries which the sauce that came with I really enjoyed and it is definitely a sharing item we took half of it home. For our meal I ended up getting the fish and chips it just sounded good and I did bbq seasoning on the fries. Everything was really food and they also have a great wine selection which is a plus. We were genuinely excited to hear that Shorebird was coming to San Diego since we've always loved their Newport location but this experience was a huge letdown. The food was honestly disappointing. The roll had no taste that we left more than half, and the oysters were shockingly small, about the size of a nail bed. It just didn't live up to the quality I was expecting at all. Service didn't help either. Our servers had little to no knowledge of the menu, which made the experience even more frustrating. We eventually moved to the bar hoping things would improve, and while the service was slightly better there (thanks to who I believe was the bar manager), it still didn't make up for everything else. We had a show at the Shell and have been wanting to try this restaurant since they revamped the location. We had an amazing time here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Our server was WONDERFUL! She was attentive, sweet and chatty. The food was really good too. Here's what we ordered: Overstuffed deviled eggs- holy cow. A bit too much yellow for me but once I scraped some off, they were so yummy. Caesar salad- we shared this and it was a perfect size. The fresh anchovies were delicious. Burger- my husband said this was super yummy. Chilean sea bass- love sea bass and this one did not disappoint. The risotto was rich and creamy and the fish was flaky and very tasty. Came here for lunch w the hubby. We didn't wanna wait so we opted for the bar seating upstairs. The ambiance was ok but the bartender was super nice, hence the 2 stars (it would've been 1 otherwise). The food was disappointing. The shrimp appetizer was more batter than actual shrimp, and i dont know who came up w the deviled eggs concept but the executive is ATROCIOUS. It looks like a 6 year old made it!!! The slivers of celery inserted into a ridiculously shaped mound of dry and bland yolk should be absolutely criminal. Dining at Shorebird was a positive experience. Love that the restaurant is right on the water and had huge windows as to not block the gorgeous view. It could get really bright (and hot) at around 12-3pm but that's the price you pay for living in Sunny San Diego! Our waiter was nice & attentive as well as the other employees we came in contact with. The menu had a lot of different choices, but not too much where you can hardly decide. Nice mix of everything. We opted for the crab cakes as a starter which came w/2 medium sized cakes & veggies. Really good choice! Got the avocado mushroom omelette (vegetarian option) which was delicious and oh so fresh. Definitely enough to share as it did come with potatoes & 2 pcs of sourdough toast. We also got the souffle pancakes which came w/3 stacks. This was kind of disappointing cause we've had souffle pancakes before and this was not it. Not to say the pancakes weren't good, it was just not souffle. Another reason to knock down the review a few points is cause they charged $53.00 a bottle for a $17.00 champagne bottle... Yes we still ordered it, but man that's highway robbery. Shorebird Restaurant is actually really special to us. My husband and I came here for our second date back in 2017 when it was still called the Pier Café, so it holds a lot of memories. Back then, the food was fresh, clean, and delicious and honestly, we were a little nervous to come back after the change in ownership. But it did not disappoint at all. If anything, we felt like it was even better than before. The food was so good that we've already started recommending it to all our friends. Our waiter was funny and really helpful, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere was romantic and elegant, even during lunch. Shorebird opened on the seaport this past August. Ambiance: the restaurant is located over the bay and has great waterfront views. The evening views are limited at this time of year, so I'd more recommend going for brunch or lunch for bayfront views. The hostess recommended we sit upstairs, which I thought was a poor recommendation. Upstairs is warmer, but views aren't as great since the downstairs has floor to ceiling windows. I wished we sat downstairs. There is also a small bar upstairs. I didn't get a great view of the downstairs. Service: Service was ok. Server didn't check on us often and left quickly when we would try to order additional things. Drinks: They don't have any beer on tap, only bottles. I ordered the passion fruit drop cocktail and it was really delicious. Food: Food was ok and overpriced. We ordered the spicy tuna eggroll to start and was displeased to see it was one eggroll cut in half. For my entree, I ordered the Chilean Seabass. The fish itself was good. The risotto it came with was super cheesy, which I went expecting at all. The arugula and tomato salad was an odd combination with it. I would've preferred cooked vegetables with it. My husband got the fish and chips and they looked small and disappointing. He said it was average. Shorebird is a cute spot on the water in Seaport Village. Was in San Diego for a week and ended up here twice for dinner. Their appetizers are the stars of the show in my opinion. We ordered a variety and split them both times we went. I think the tempura rock shrimp were my favorite but fat. The flavors were so good but honestly everything we tried on the appetizer menu was. The sauces that came with the egg rolls were also a crowd favorite and we used them for just about everything. The Caesar salad is a lemon Caesar salad and the lemon is a strong flavor. Located at the end of Seaport Village offering great views of the harbor! We went on a Tuesday afternoon. Although we they were busy, we were seated rather quickly and didn't have reservations. The crab cakes and tempura rock shrimp were okay. The Lemon Caesar was a disappointment but, the Wedge was delicious. The Tin's Dressed oysters were fresh and delicious and the price was more reasonable then their other raw bar items. I've seen other people order the rolls and they were smaller than most places and almost double the price of most places. The location was amazing. Shorebird sits right above the water, across from Hess Brewing. I walked by and the hostess was inviting me in and very persuasive. I looked over the posted menu, then asked for the drink menu. It was hot amd humid, and the choice was between Louisiana Charlie's and this place, since I'd never been to either. I wanted something light and Charlie's was a bit heavier. I was pleased to sit upstairs at the bar. The windows were open and the light breeze was refreshing. A nice older couple sat next to me and we had pleasant conversation with our bartender about the food, our families, San Francisco, San Diego, and Guatemala. I thoroughly enjoyed my Espresso Martini, Avocado Fries, and San Marzano Tomato soup. Stumbled upon Shorebird while we took the kids out for a quick Labor Day Weekend outing, we were soo glad we made it in. the restaurant SITS ON THE WATER, and has a really awesome view, outstanding service and delicious food. It is never easy to sit w/ our twins given our stroller, but the staff was super attentive to catering to our 2 adults 2 infants party, as well as giving us a space for our stroller. A vacant two-story structure on the western side of Seaport Village is now the new home of the fourth location of Shorebird. They are currently in a soft opening phase with a limited menu, however the grand opening will occur by the end of this week. I'm unsure why it took so long for a new business to take over the space as it has a terrific perch over the water with south and west facing views of the bay. The upstairs deck featured a bar and several tables for seating. The lower-level dining area wrapped around the outside of the structure. The main dinner menu was posted outside the entranceway. Some of the specialty dishes were only available after 4:30 pm. Just one almond wood-fired specialty was listed on the soft opening dinner menu which became my selection for the evening, the Prime Skirt Steak. Several slices of premium angus beef (cooked medium rare) were served with red chimichurri. The accompanying side was crispy herb yukon potatoes that had a cup of lemon aioli for dipping. A few pieces of beef were undercooked and chewy. The smashed potatoes had crispy edges to them which provided a nice texture. A raw bar menu was offered with several choices of sashimi, maki rolls, and two-piece nigiri. I skipped that and saved room for dessert. Although there was no printed menu, my waitress told me there were two choices, a Valrhona Chocolate Brownie and a Pineapple Carrot Cake. I picked the latter which was served as a large wedge with cream cheese icing and rum-soaked raisins on the side. A small cup of pineapple juice was provided to pour on top of the cake. There's a reason why I don't order dessert often, and that's because the items are so rich in calories like this version of carrot cake. The place was quite empty while I was there because I don't think many people knew about the soft opening. After the restaurant becomes fully operational, then I think there will be a waitlist for lunch and dinner because of the prime waterfront location. I gave a 4.5 star rating for my dining experience at Shorebird. read more

If like me you typically dislike birds found at the shore (ie seagulls) you will be happily surprised this restaurant has nothing in common with said winged savages. The service I received was above and beyond the average dining experience. I enjoyed playful banter and conversation with our lovely server Shelby. She recommended a couple mocktails to try and if I had socks on, they'd be knocked off. So I trusted her judgement fully on what continued to fill my tummy. I was pleasantly surprised with every bite I took this evening, from the deviled eggs to the to the fresh sushi. I cherished every moment and every flavor. The service was splendid, the atmosphere unforgettable, and the food delectable. Hmmm not that busy when we show up. Kinda weird when the hostess said " the next customer occupying your table will be here at 11:45am. Plenty of time for you" that's a little odd. Anyway! Location is nice. Just a little loud due to flying jets. The food is ok. I ordered the swordfish and I would say 3 out of 5. The Napa cabbage and sauce don't go well with the fish. I needed to add salt to taste. I'm not sure but the ketchup tastes different my guess it's a house made ketchup. The price is a little high for the amount of onion rings and size of the sandwich. The Wagyu burger is 4 out of 5. They cut it into half, the first half is just perfect and the other half still looks pinkish. Our server didn't really check in on us.
