Hats is a fun take on Creole food. The food is normally fresh and delicious while I wish they had some more traditional Creole dishes. Service is normally friendly and quick. Out running some errands and decided to hit up Yats Grandview. I THOUGHT it was Abby working BUT it was actually Kat working today, she has been working there 6-7 years. I ordered a half Chicken Maque Choux and half Spinach and Mushroom Etouffee. OMG!!! The Chicken Maque Choux has some nice tender chicken and corn with a smooth creamy sauce. It's to die for. The other half was a creamy vegetarian roux based sauce with mushrooms and spinach blended with green curry and a blend of other spices. And of course I had to have a double order of the buttered bread. Yummy!!! Another plus this time was meeting another one of their team Kat, she been with them for 6-7 years. I told the guy at the counter that it was my first time there, so he told me to do the half and half to try two different things. I went with his two suggestions: drunken chicken and the chili cheese etouffe with crawfish. My food came out so fast! It was hot, so I waited to eat until my friend got her food. She ordered the vegan white chili and the mushroom and spinach etouffe. You can add Cajun seasoning and any hot sauces to it. They have them sitting out on a table to use. The sauces and the seasoning helped to flavor the dishes as they weren't that flavorful themselves. The portions were large as well! I was pretty full by the end. Overall, it's not authentic. But they are New Orleans-inspired, so it's their own take on the food you can get down there. It's not bad for what you're getting. But just know it won't taste like what you've eaten down in NOLA. Yats will always be one of my favorite comfort meals in Columbus! My three favorite entrees to order are drunken chicken, spinach and mushroom etouffee, and chicken maque choux. They all have amazing flavor and if you like heat get some of the hot sauces to add to spice it up even more. The bread that comes with the entrees is absolutely UNREAL. Perfectly crispy on the outside, and buttery and soft on the inside. The bread is best fresh, so when I order Yats to go I always pop the bread in the oven or air fryer for a little to crisp it up again. The service is always really fast and friendly. This is a great place to pop in when you need a quick meal on lunch break or dinner time. Parking can be hectic in the Grandview area but there is typically street parking and if none available there are a few parking lots nearby. read more

Came here for a pickup order for lunch on Monday. I forgot how good this place is. We ordered drunken chicken, 1/2 chili cheese etouffee and 1/2 chicken maque choux. Everything was absolutely delicious, including the bread which comes covered in a delicious Cajun butter. Reminiscent of a Cajun boil sauce. On a frigid winter night, I was looking for something warm to fill me up and this definitely did its job. However, the lack of parking around the area really just negated the warming effects of the food. I got the maque choux and the drunken chicken on my plate. While both were pretty good and had a decent texture, I felt that they lacked a depth of flavor I was hoping to taste. I couldn't taste much spice in either dish as well. Maybe this is what it's supposed to taste like, but personally I was not a fan. Additionally, I thought I could have used more rice. The amount of rice I got was not nearly enough to go with all the sauce I got. My ideal rice/sauce ratio is pretty high though, so that may be my own preference. Because when you walk into a NOLA spot you don't here red hot chilli peppers. You here zydeco . With that said and taking into account it's not true NOLA it's a Midwest version they get 4 stars instead of 5. Let's get to the food. I ordered everything on the menu. Yes everything. The highlight was drunken chicken and marque Choux chicken you heard. These Midwest one pot dishes are full of Flav. The other dishes were good also. Now the portions are Midwest style small but it has very good Flav. They also need to give more rice but again it's the Midwest version. I actually took another star off because I hate eating off of paper plates and plastic ware but I gave the star back because the one pot dishes melted great. I love Yats, so this review may be a bit biased. It's truly food for the soul that just warms your whole body. Their Gumbo is fantastic and the different kinds of garlic hot sauces they add just tack on a whole new set of flavors to the already existing palate you have when eating. All have a great amount of space and complex flavor like smokey sausage in the gumbo or creamy cheesy/peppers in the etouffe. It didn't ask to spice any of them up, but it seems like they can accommodate. Also lots of vegetarian and vegan options. All come on a bed of rice with a side of bread. It's hard to try out new restaurants during the pandemic but i really wanted to give Yats a try! I got the spinach and mushroom etoufee and the vegan white bean chili! My partner ordered drunken chicken and red beans and rice with smoke sausage. The dishes were seasoned nicely and really hit the spot. I had to add a little hot sauce because I really enjoy spicy food, but it was kind of already spicy at the baseline level. I got to taste some of my partner's orders and I really liked how soft and tender the chicken was. The flavors came out really well. As for the bread, it was nice and crispy.
