WOW! Absolutely Amazing! I had been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile and today was the perfect snow day to catch up on some much needed "Me Time" so after a solo trip to the movies, I ended up at Heritage. Upon my arrival to Heritage, I was greeted promptly and seated immediately in a comfortable booth. Immediately I was drawn to the ambiance of the restaurant - very chill, low playing music- gave me date night vibes!! My waiter was very friendly. He greeted me with a warm smile and a water carafe. He asked if I'd like anything other of than water. I told him I like bourbon and he returned with their cocktail list and extensive bourbon list. I ordered the Shadowplay with Knobb Creek. The drink was strong, yet smooth. My waiter, then shared the evenings specials. I ordered the rockfish, a popular choice and recommended. In about 10- 12 minutes, my entree was brought out! Impressive! The meal was beautiful. The rockfish was pan seared and served with fried rice. The fish was seasoned very well -savory complimented the rice well -kind of sweet! The entree was amazing! I wanted to order another plate! After my meal my waiter, brought me the dessert menu and offered a coffee. I opted for the Chocolate Candy Bar and added the nutella ice cream ! For anyone that is a chocolate lover like me, this dessert was EVERYTHING! It satisfied my craving for chocolate! Very sweet, very rich. Loved the "crunch". This was by far the best meal I had in my recent work related visit to Richmond last month. Our client/friend decided this was where we were going to have dinner the first night in and I instantly loved the look of the place. Very dim lighting along with exposed brick is always a winner for me. Our server was very nice and took very good care of us and even participated in a decent portion of our crazy banter. The menu was full of goodies and it was only right to start out with some appetizers/goodies. The Chicken Liver Pate was the star of the show and very tasty. We also went with the Hickory Smoked Pork Belly (very good)and the regional cheese plate. For my entree, I went with the Hudson Valley Duck Breast that came with mustard bbq...very good! Was definitely a hard choice considering all of the other good stuff, but was a good choice. I hear the Rockfish is amazing so I look forward to getting a hold of that next time around. One of my dearest friends and I met up in Richmond for a girlfriend getaway. We cross-tabbed Yelp's top pic for restaurants with Yelp's top picks for cocktails. Heritage was #1 for meals and #3 for drinks. We were all in! (We were totally led astray!) We called last minute, so we couldn't get a table until 8:45. We're former NY'ers - so that didn't feel late at all! We got there over an hour earlier to enjoy apps and drinks at the bar. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty -- but no one offered to seat us. Just minutes before our reservation, tables were filled. We were told it would be a ten minute wait. It turned out to be over 45... The restaurant sent out a complimentary app. Which was appreciated. But things quickly went downhill. I'll keep this short: PROS: Cocktails lived up to the hype. Inventive drinks. Refreshing. A+ CONS: Seated VERY late. Ignored once seated. It took almost an hour AFTER we were seated to get our dinner. The amazing sauce that was on our first app also re-appeared on our second app. By the time it showed up on our dinner plate we had sauce fatigue. The meal was overcooked. The owner was in front of us the entire time we sat at the bar and never acknowledged what a mix up our dining experience was. read more

This place was really lovely for a Sunday brunch. I wish I'd felt up for a cocktail because they looked absolutely amazing- creative and delicious! The menu had a great mix of sweet and savory items. My husband enjoyed the breakfast sandwich with the most mouth-watering chicken fried pork and a fried egg. I had the big hot vegan mess, not because I'm vegan, but because I loved how it came with so many vegetables on it- I will always pick a vegetable-full brunch option! What a waste of an anniversar/Valentines Day dinner. Over $200 for inedible food. My husband said Starkist tuna was better than the tuna starter course. Everything was under salted. The potatoes with my meal were disgusting. I'd rather eat cardboard. The sorbet was great for dessert but my husband's lemon tart crust was harder than concrete. We enjoyed a great laugh watching other diners try to break into the crust unsuccessfully. Wait staff was attentive but seemed to not notice/care customers literally couldn't eat the dessert. The mahi was different, the fish was cooked perfect but I think the chick peas were just too dry, but the sauce around the pan was great. We got fear of the dark and cosmic dancer for drinks. Both were great, the fear was more traditional where the cosmic was a sour sweet which I loved but probably not for everyone. We had made a reservation but we ended up arriving early. The hostess was very accommodating. We had great service at the bar as we waited for a booth to open up. The appetizers were excellent. We had fired oysters and a green garden salad. A great way to start our meal. We were seated at a perfect table right by the window. We had the steak and a vegetarian burger for our main courses. The burger was absolutely delicious. It was juicy and tasted like a regular hamburger! For dessert we ordered the Cheesecake. Light and fruity not at all like what we expected. I've always loved the service at Heritage. The staff remembers who we are, and the know the menu like the back of their hands. They're amazing. From describing the not just how the food is prepared and the careful selection of ingredients, but the same goes for the cocktails. Our server was super helpful even in helping me pick out a bourbon neat . As for the food, I always, always get the burger - no shame, it's just my #1 go-to. It has some sort of jam spread that tastes really well when you add bacon. On the side is sort of what I would call a Mac sauce. I think it was suppose to go into the burger, but it was so good, I used it on both the burger and the fries. I requested my burger to be cooked medium, and that was on point. The shoe-string fries were hot and crispy, light and not super salty. They were perfect. I recommend scarfing these down first to avoid eating them any cooler. This is my favorite spot, not just for the burger or the bourbon- but again, for the service. You'll spend a little more, but you'll get you're return for sure read more

To all of the lovely people at Heritage, thank you so much for another wonderful dinner. I had the pleasure of dining there on a Friday night with my partner, our first time back since the pandemic started, and it was like seeing a dear old friend that I hadn't seen in years(very accurate as it had been a few years).I always wonder how they manage to raise the bar with every meal, and this time was no different. The tuna tartare was absolutely delicious, light and refreshing, and the serving was a pretty nice size for an appetizer. The Prime Ribeye Steak was, in the words of Paris Hilton, "SLIVING!!". Perfectly cooked(medium rare), tender, and just flipping divine! I'm not even a huge steak person , so this dish in particular is definitely one of my favorite steaks I've had anywhere. My friend and I visited Richmond overnight as a weekend getaway. We talked to the front desk and consulted Yelp before deciding to dine here. We were pleasantly pleased with most of the brunch experience. We enjoyed the low-key vibe along with the hipster atmosphere. No doubt, this place is EXTREMELY hipster with lumberjack beards and plaid plus pixie cut hairstyles and tats galore. We loved it. They were attentive for the most part, but did have some times where we had to track down someone for a refill or ask about the food timing. It was busy, but not too busy to be overlooked. I think one of my favorite parts of this atmosphere was the art on the walls. They were eclectic, but added mood to the atmosphere. Both my dining partner and I ordered the meal BIG HOT MESS for $12. It has pulled pork, potatoes, smoked cream cheese, tomato aioli, cheddar. I added a poached egg to my tab for a couple of dollars more. It was perfection on a plate. If you want carb overload after a night of drinking; this is prime hangover food or simply a hearty meal when it's cold outside. We got it for the latter reason. It was not a measly portion size either. Another suggestion might e to get this and split it with your dining partner while getting another lighter entree if this is something too heavy for one person. We did check out the cocktail list and opted to stick to water and their hand squeezed orange juice which was good. The cocktails looked divine and I would recommend getting a drink with the meal if you're looking for something to add to the dining experience. Looking back, I wish I would have. I was in the area and Heritage and has been on my list of places to try for a little while. Although I didn't have a reservation, I was able to sidle up to the bar for brunch on a weekend morning. The host and bartender were nice and attentive even as the restaurant started to fill up quickly. I decided to try the Crispy Fish and Grits to go along with a black coffee. The grits were very creamy and with the two eggs on top - there was a smooth richness once the yolks were broken. The fish was crispy, as advertised, but still nicely done with the right amount of saltiness. I would've liked just one more piece of fish to go along with the amount of grits served, but that's a compliment and not a complaint. I look forward to going again. read more

My friend really wanted to celebrate her birthday with a nice brunch somewhere that also had pancakes, and Heritage was a great time! From the comfortable, artistic atmosphere with the exposed brick wall to the artwork hanging, this place was a really great place to see happy families while still feeling like you could hold a conversation without having to scream over each other since it wasn't too crowded. We reserved a table for 3 at 10:45 A.M on a Sunday and probably got in a bit before the church crowd. I could see that the servers were enthusiastic, really friendly, and very attentive. Genuinely very warm energy, which just enhanced our time there. Parking was not difficult that morning and we parked a block down street side. I ordered the Omelet o' the day which included a generous portion of crispy, seasoned potatoes. Y'ALL. LET ME TELL YOU. THE POTATOES WERE SO CRISPY! It was very filling and I needed to take a box out. The omelette wasn't exactly my most favorite, but I did think it was interesting that it had diced zucchini and yellow squash along with ham. The idea of the squash is great for the summer season, but I felt that it wasn't cheesy enough or seasoned enough for my tasting. I would have preferred a seasoning within the omelet shell or a stronger cheese. However, I felt like the crispiness and salt of the potatoes complemented the soft and subtler flavors of the omelet; I love hot sauce and the server kindly got the bottle for us. Sunday Brunch. Cocktails: -/5 Excellent. I had a bloody mary, which I personally wasn't a huge fan of. However, my fiance and my friend both got cocktails which they said they enjoyed. I have no doubt their cocktails are well done. So I won't comment on their cocktails until I give them a 2nd try. Food: 5/5 - Fantastic Fantastic. Pancakes. Don't get me wrong, the ham hash was good as well. But... I have been looking for a quality pancake for over a year. I tried looking for pancakes at local restaurants, chain restaurants, and even making them at home (both from scratch and from a mix). I couldn't find a pancake to satisfy my craving until I came to Heritage. Their pancakes are wonderful, fluffy pillows of heaven served on a plate with a sweet and creamy honey butter and maple syrup. For me, the pancake is the foundation of a pancake breakfast. No amount of butter or maple syrup make up for a poorly made pancake foundation, and Heritage pancakes did not disappoint. It is worth getting a side order, regardless of whatever else you order. The hash: Potatoes were perfectly crispy and salty, but soft on the inside. I'm of the opinion that a perfectly crisp and salted potato is hard to come by, and Heritage does a perfect job. To add to that, the hollandaise sauce was wonderfully creamy and the eggs were perfectly poached. Just some moderate pressure with the blunt edge of my fork rewarded me with the golden waterfall of egg yolk onto my mixture of crisp potatoes and ham. Every bite tasted perfectly seasoned with the hollandaise sauce, the saltiness of the ham and potatoes. Meat and potatoes is incredibly filling. I could only eat maybe 25% of my hash. You won't be leaving this restaurant dissatisfied. Bring a hungry stomach. Service: 5/5 - Polite and Attentive I used to poo-poo the need for good service since I tend be very tolerant of good/bad/mediocre service. ("Bad service means good food!" I used to say). However, I've changed my viewpoint on this. Heritage had wonderful service. Our waiter was kind, patient, and available. He did a good job of ensuring we were cared for without being overburdening. Our waters were filled at appropriate intervals, our wait times were low, and our waiter was very knowledgeable about the offerings. He had the entire beer selection memorized. I was very impressed. We had a lovely experience and our waiter was a critical part of our pleasant meal. Atmosphere 5/5 - Clean, Modern, Elegant Clean, earthy, well-lit. It is a very family-friendly atmosphere. There are beautiful, modern paintings on the walls. The bar and other furnishings are made of a dark wood. It is an elegant and modern establishment. Price: 5/5 - Worth the money Considering the fare and quality of service, brunch is fairly affordable. They had a limited menu when we visited the restaurant, which ranged between $12-$18. Cocktails are in the $10 range. Their dinner menu, which I have yet to try, is more expensive. Overall: 5/5 - Absolutely worth trying. First of all, their cocktail menu is the bomb. I would highly recommend pretty much any one of them. It's a great place to start. They have a great wine selection too, if that's what you're into. Their menu changes frequently, but they are very open to catering to specific needs. The chef went out of his way to make a completely plant-based meal for me even though there wasn't one on the menu. I know he didn't have to do that, so I really appreciated it. It was my last day in Richmond so my mom and I decided to stop by Heritage since it had such high ratings on Yelp! We were definitely not disappointed. We got the Monkfish and the VA Hanger Steak and they were both very interesting fusion dishes! The lightly seasoned monkfish was super fresh because it had the seafood "seawater" taste. The sauce felt like it had an Thai twist because of its vingear-y flavors. The accompanying veggies (beans, fennel, bok choy, onions, and cashes) were delicious with this sauce. The Hanger Steak was also yummy because it was very tender and flavorful. The terayaki rice with mushrooms and other veggies was another Asian/Japanese twist to the dish. We felt that, while it was good overall, the sauce was a little too salty when mixed with the seasoned steak. There were lots of people for dinner on a week night. Lots of street parking was available and service was good. Since the dishes are seasonal, I would probably come back! One of my friends that lives out West called me on my birthday to tell me they made a reservation for Heritage. Having never been, but always hearing about it, I was thrilled to finally go. I walked in about 10 minutes before my reservation and was seated right away. Our waitress was delightful and full of energy. We ordered the dessert first, which was their cheesecake with candied orange peel and red velvet cheesecake chunks - yum. I wish it was a bigger serving because, why not? We got their pimento cheese croquettes - I could have just ordered 4 more plates of just those and died happy. We also got crispy pork belly fries which came with a sweet thick BBQ sauce. I ordered the special of the night, which was a scallop risotto with a poached, perfectly cooked over-easy egg on top. I had enough to take home for leftovers, which I devoured later that night. We had a variety of cocktails throughout the night, all of which impressed us. The music was excellent, playing chiller vibes from The Shins to the lovely voice of Frank Ocean. I'm honestly fairly disappointed in Heritage. I got pancakes, which were pretty fluffy and came with a nice whipped butter, but it's difficult to really mess up pancakes. But I got scrambled eggs on the side that were too creamy to the point where it was not cooked enough. My boyfriend got the pulled pork eggs benedict, when we were hoping for a classic eggs benedict with ham after looking at the menu online. Upon arriving, they had a menu change, which was fine, but the eggs were not fully poached. The eggs were watery and turned to mush. The pulled pork was too salty and the potatoes on the side were way too salty as well. The restaurant had a fairly nice atmosphere but the food did not live up to expectations. I finally was able to make it to brunch here. And I loved it! I had a friend visiting from out of town and made a reservation with the trusty Yelp app and was able to be seated pretty easily during peak brunch dining time. Great setting, great vibe (they were playing 70s funk the morning I was there!), great service and lovely craft cocktails (more than your standard Bloody Mary, too) and menu selections for my out-of-town BFF and me. For my meal, I ordered the duck confit hash. It was out of this world. Along with the duck, my meal included poached eggs, country potatoes, onion and a lovely dose of hollandaise sauce. The Heritage.... nested in the fan on main St. One of the Hidden gems in the fan. The menu changes seasonally and there's always a pleasant surprise waiting for you discovered on the menu. If given the opportunity, please do order drinks from the bar, they take their mixologist very seriously and the cocktails are top notch. Right there on the same level as the Roosevelt, Laura Lee's ..it's fine dining at its best. The service is always excellent, the bartenders know you by name. It's a bucket list place to go. Softshell was in season and was on the menu and was delicious. I like this place so much! One of my best friends lives in Williamburg, and we often head over to Richmond for dinner and a night out. On a very (very) rainy January night we decided on Heritage after reading glowing reviews on the Yelp app. We didn't make a reservation since we weren't sure when we would make it there, but it was no problem getting a table since the weather was so bad and people were staying cozy at home. It was absolutely freezing so I asked if the bartender made a hot toddy - our server said yes, but it was honestly the worst drink I've had in a long time. Perhaps I should have stuck to the cocktail list they had on the table, but I learned my lesson! That was the only bad part of the meal. We started with the smoked fish dip and it was so, so great. The malt vinegar pita chips it was served with were incredible and I could have eaten a lot more of it! Afterwards, I settled on the burger, and I'm so glad I did. It's served with bibb lettuce, onion jam, cheddar, Hanover tomato, and smoked tomato aioli, and it's all layered on a brioche bun. It was one of those "okay I'm just going to take ONE more bite" situations. This is a beautiful restaurant where you can enjoy some well-prepared local dishes. Heritage is a family-owned and -operated restaurant that has been around since '12. They serve up new American fare for brunch, dinner, and desserts, as well as housemade cocktails in a very hip space. I loved the little booth we were seated in by the window, as we can watch the passerbyers as well as get a great view of the restaurant. I had the Big Hot Mess (this was a nice massive hot plate with crispy diced potatoes topped with pulled pork, cheddar cheese, and a very slightly poached egg; there were some drizzling of smoked cream cheese and tomato aioli; I requested this dish to be done a bit more crispy and, boy, did they deliver! The potatoes were super crispy and the sweeter BBQ pulled pork had nice crispy edges; the cheese was melty and pretty tasty. I didn't care for the drizzles, but I did request their house hot sauce - 'Texas Mike's' - this was a fantastic complement to the dish - yum! The dish was not as super salty as others have stated, but then again, I don't mind salt as that's better than being bland and underseasoned!); the hubs had the Ramen Bowl (came with braised pork belly, nori, kimchi, and poached eggs with housemade noodles; this was super disappointing, as the broth tasted extremely watered down; the noodles tasted okay, but were slightly overcooked; the kimchi were forgettable and not fermented long enough). I loved how each table was given a little glass bottle of water, in addition to getting our glasses filled with another filled bottle (so that we were left with a full one!). The. Best. Brunch. Ever. I said it. EVER. So, I have still yet to make an appearance for dinner here but myself, my dining partner in life, and another couple planned on brunch this past Sunday. It was 10:30AM and I called to see if I could make a reservation for 11:30, and I was so excited when they said yes and also excited that we didn't have to wait for a table! Our waiters name was Patrick, and he was awesome. I will go back and specifically request his section because he was just my idea of the perfect person to be waited on by. Patrick took our drink orders, mimosa, bloody mary, English Breakfast (morning cocktail), and another cocktail, and then our food order. The libations all arrived and were delicious. By the time we were about half-way done with our drinks, our food came. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs benny which was just amazing. I make a mean eggs benedict and confidently believe it's better than most restaurants but Heritage has me beat! It came with a side of hash browns which were amazingly delicious and I'm not sure what brand of crack they use to make them so delicious, but I'll continue ordering them. My other half ordered the "big mess" which was hash browns, pulled pork, cheddar cheese, smoked creme cheese and a few others ingredients i'm sure I'm missing but literally, it was so freaking delicious, that you couldn't put your fork down. At one point, someone asked me if I was finished and I looked down at my plate and had only eaten half of my meal....I responded instantly, that I knew what his intentions were and I was unwilling to share....and then I caved and shared. My boyfriend and I dropped by Heritage for late-night small plates and drinks. We ordered their smoked fish dip, a cheese board, and pimento cheese croquettes. Everything was delicious and very filling. The drinks were superb as well. We will definitely have to come back for dinner in the future! read more

I HIGHLY recommend this place for Brunch. My husband actually took me out to Heritage on our first date for dinner and we did not enjoy it as well as we do now for Brunch. My husband and I went here to brunch this past weekend with a couple of his friends. I easily made reservation through this Yelp App (which i should admit, is pretty easy and WONDERFUL to use!). Anyways, back to food. We ordered mimosa and a bloody Mary to start our meal. I ended up getting the Duck Hash and my husband got the Big Hot Mess. The Duck Hash was a little bit salty but the flavors were still there and nicely seasoned - it had duck confit, caramelized onion, potatoes, & an over easy egg. I also ordered a side of pancakes because it's just so fluffy and hit the spot for me- haha - but the whipped butter and honey was the perfect amount of sweetness to the Duck Hash. As for the big hot mess, it has BBQ pork belly, potatoes, smoked cream cheese, tomato aioli, cheddar, and added the poached egg. The pictures alone will tell you how amazing this place is - haha. The dishes were amazing, the staffs were super friendly and helpful, the place is clean, and do I need to remind you how delish the food is?! Please just try this place at least once for Brunch. As soon as you walk in, you must go thru heavy velvet curtains to really enter the dining room. There's a closet for your coats. No visible host stand; just tons of people, I mean already dining. We were seated almost immediately though. And a server came in a flash. The bartender wears a vest, so you know he means business. Oftentimes, he fancily mixed two cocktails at a time; I had a great view of the bar and all of its action. And the drink list was innovative so that's probably the place to be. (There are hooks to hang your handbags just under the counter, btw.) The menu isn't overwhelming but almost everything sounded appetizing, which works since it is sectioned as: Small plates, medium, and large. We ordered two things from the small section: The pork fries which is fried pulled pork and AMAZING, and the pimento cheese croquettes -- also amazing. From the medium, I chose the pork belly, but as my entree. Very flavorful and tender. The hangar steak was just okay; I loved the bed of spinach underneath the most. Lots more I want to try at Heritage, so I will definitely return. read more

After long anticipation, and years of having Heritage book-marked on Yelp, a girlfriend of mine and I came here for Sunday brunch. We had both looked at the menus online before arriving, so we knew exactly what we entrees we wanted. It was the quickest meal in a restaurant I've ever had. But judging from my star-rating, this wasn't a bad thing at all! The food came out quickly, and was piping hot. My friend had the "Big Hot mess" and I ordered "chicken and waffles". We shared some food, and I found that her dish was DELICIOUS! Super savory, and packed with great textures and flavor. They don't hold back on the pulled pork, nor the portions. The potatoes were crispy. Everything melded together perfectly in her dish. My dish, "chicken and waffles", was a pleasant surprise. I was worried that such a simple-looking dish wouldn't "wow" me, but it absolutely did! The flavor of the waffle was delicious and unique. It's fluffy exterior went excellent with the crisp chicken tenders. Overall, I'm so happy I got to try Heritage for brunch. I won't be back in Richmond for a really long time, so I was thankful they were able to accommodate, and get us in (we unfortunately ran into issues and arrived late for our reservation). Even though I love their happy hour and dinner menu, I must say that I wasn't very impressed with their brunch. I went there on a Sunday morning with family and we ordered 4 different items on the menu thinking to try a little bit of everything. At the end they were all basically looking and tasting the same with very little difference. They have some egg entrees for instance and they come with house potatoes. You can choose your protein as an option. I ordered biscuit gravy with eggs and potatoes. I must say it wasn't bad but it wasn't somehow "Heritage" like. It was like you could get in any other diner. The omelette was almost a bit too bland, my husband used lots of hot sauce and salt to make it interesting. On the other hand, the cocktails were really good and the service was quick even though they were slammed. read more
