**Disappointing Experience at Hermann Marshall** I attended a private event at Hermann Marshall on August 16th, held in their private party room. This was my third time attending a private event at Hermann Marshall, and unfortunately, it was the first time I experienced what I felt was inconsistent and disappointing service. As part of the event, the host offered complimentary mixed drinks served by Hermann Marshall staff. My server was Mary Ann, who I understand is married to the manager/owner. Mary Ann initially served me one complimentary Old Fashioned, which, as usual, was very good. About an hour later, I returned to the bar for another. At that point, Mary Ann placed her hand over the Old Fashioned dispenser and told me they were no longer serving complimentary drinks because the prepaid limit had been reached. She then told me I could purchase one if I wanted another drink. I had no issue with purchasing a drink, so I got my debit card and purchased a smoked Old Fashioned. What I found confusing, however, was that there appeared to be a significant amount of the premixed Old Fashioned remaining in the dispenser. Approximately an hour later, while getting food near the bar, I saw Mary Ann serve another attendee an Old Fashioned from the same container she had previously told me was no longer available for complimentary drinks. I asked Mary Ann why I had been charged for my drink while another attendee was still receiving complimentary Old Fashioneds. Her response was unclear, but she ultimately told me that if I wanted another drink, I would need to pay for it. From what I observed, however, other attendees were continuing to receive complimentary Old Fashioneds within the limit established by the party host. What made the situation particularly disappointing was not having to pay for a drink--I was perfectly willing to do that--but rather the inconsistent treatment and lack of transparency regarding how the complimentary drinks were being distributed. I have been a consistent patron of Hermann Marshall, attending Tuesday Bingo nights, happy hours, and other events, and I have also brought friends with me. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling uncomfortable and disappointed, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the event. I believe all guests should receive consistent and transparent service, regardless of who they are. Based on this experience, I will no longer be supporting Hermann Marshall or recommending HM to friends. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as this was a very different experience from the positive experiences I've had at Hermann Marshall in the past. read more

Love, love, love this bar. The atmosphere is awesome and always such a great place to hang out. They have my absolute favorite espresso martini -- I seriously compare every other one I try to this place, and nothing ever measures up. One of the best parts is the music level. It's fun and sets the mood, but it's not so loud that you can't actually have a conversation. Being able to bring in your own food is also a huge bonus and makes the experience even better. I attended my 10 yr high-school reunion that was at Herman Marshall last night... to say the owner & his staff were amazing would be a HUGE understatement! They truly went ABOVE and beyond making our event wonderful. The servers were so helpful, friendly, & knowledgeable about their drink selection. The owner was amazing, very involved, welcoming, & hospitable - you could feel the passion he has for his company & team behind him, to say the least I don't visit Wylie often, but I would come back just for this stunning place & ppl! Lately, the service has been getting worse. I usually go on a Saturday evening when I see a good musician playing, so it is a busy night. However, several of the staff are constantly getting on their phones or conversing near the drink making area. They rarely tend the bar area where I will sit thinking I can get better service, but tonight especially they avoided that area. I had to walk over to the other side of the room to put in my order from the end of the bar. I even seen one server holding a baby instead of working and 2 other servers looking confused for at least 5 minutes about some table's order (from what I could tell watching them). There was 2 other groups at the bar attempting to waive down a server when they were ready to check out. The other issue tonight is the musical artist initially posted on their instagram to perform tonight was not there. Instead there was another person who they had posted just a couple hours beforehand. I just left without closing my tab because the music sucked and at one point all but one server that was making drinks disappeared. The drinks are great and I really enjoy visiting but they need better staff. Otherwise, I suggest they force people to go to the bar to order, so some of the servers are not running to each table to take orders. read more

They don't sell food , but on the back of the drink menu they have local restaurants QR codes to menus for food, when I went last night they had a food truck in the back of the business. The service was great, I was impressed by the decorations, Friday night is Jazz nights so the ambiance was perfect to unwind to good music and great drinks. read more

We went into Hermann Marshall one night and came out a little excited for the next time. The service was great and the drinks were incredible. We will order food next time from one of the nearby restaurants. I love the inside and even toured the upstairs for an upcoming event. We recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the upstairs venue at Herman Marshall Distillery in downtown Wylie on November 8, 2025, and it could not have been a better experience. Our sons hosted the party for us, and from the very first conversation through the end of the night, Angela was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was organized, responsive, and genuinely invested in making sure everything went smoothly. We reserved the upstairs space, which was perfect for our group and created a warm, fun atmosphere. Angela helped us plan the bar setup and provided an excellent drink menu featuring their whiskey/bourbon, tequila, gin, and vodka. Even though Herman Marshall doesn't serve beer or wine, they allowed us to bring in our own with a corking fee, and we were also able to bring in our own catering service, which worked out great. We were assigned two servers for the evening, and both did an outstanding job keeping up with drink orders and checking on our guests without ever feeling intrusive. One of the best compliments I can give is that many of our usual beer and wine drinkers ended up ordering mixed drinks instead--and really enjoyed them. That says a lot about how good their cocktails are, especially for people who don't normally choose mixed drinks. We don't typically leave reviews, but the venue, the service, and the overall experience at Herman Marshall Distillery were truly exceptional. Angela and the whole team helped make our 40th anniversary a night we'll never forget. We highly recommend this place for any special event. read more

I hosted my husband's 50th birthday party at Herman Marshall and I will definitely have other events here. Angela was great in getting everything pulled together and as a lifelong Wylie girl, I love that we were able to use local catering options in Bold BBQ Pit and Landon. Everyone we encountered was fantastic and I can't say enough about how they helped me pull off a perfect surprise for my husband. Honestly one of the worst whiskeys my husband and I have ever tasted. I got the pecan pie old fashioned and my husband got the regular old fashioned. Mine was so syrupy and did not taste like pecan pie and my husband said his was one of the worst old fashioneds he's ever had. Really wanted to like this place because downtown Wiley needs good restaurants/bars but this isn't it. read more

Awesome place in downtown Wylie. They really did a great job with decor and keeping a small town service feel. The music was nice volume and selection. I had the flight and got to try single malt, blended whiskey and bourbon. I enjoyed 2/3. Also tried the blackberry smash which was great and the old fashioned. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and whiskey tasting experience. Booking was easy thru Eventbrite. All you need is the email confirmation on your phone when you arrive. You are given a glass for the tasting that you get to carry with you. The tasting experience is well organized. Herman led the tasting and the tour. Marshall joined the group later. Got to taste different whiskey, bourbon and rye. The history, process and tour was very informative and interesting. Herman has a good sense of humor as he narrates which makes the tour even more interesting. The grand finale of the tour is when you have the opportunity to bottle your own Bourbon. Once bottled, you also get to seal it and get the bottle autographed by Herman and Marshall. The store sells coasters, bottle openers, accessories, branded t shirts and hats. The decor of the brewery is interesting with historical photos and pictures from tours. Barrels are table tops during the tasting session and they serve light snacks and bottled water. Plenty of parking available right outside the brewery. Overall, a great experience and I highly recommend this tour. read more

Last night was my first time going drove all the way from Frisco, an truly did not enjoy my experience. It's nice you can bring in outside food, however the drinks extremely sweet the service was trash. Two employees refused to check on us yet made rounds to every other table. We actually started a clock to see how long it would take for the only waitress who would help us come back and that took 17 mins, but I can honestly say I won't be back. read more

Supporting local is one thing but supporting a great local brand is a big thing. HM Distillery Tour & Tasting is everything but fancy, in fact it's down your throat (smoothly) nice like their whiskeys. I had the pleasure of visiting the place one Saturday afternoon with a friend who told me about me it. It's located at an industrial part of garland and you would even know that they are here making a concoction of deliciousness. I believe Herman and Marshall are always present during tour and tasting events. The tour consist of all the information about them, how they started, how they made it up to today and some science ( yes, science) :) The tour and tasting and is free with a glass to take home and if the event is "bottle your own" you have a chance to bottle your own whiskey for purchase. My boyfriend and I went to the Herman Marshall tasting room in Downtown Wylie last night (Saturday) to check it out for the first time. The room was well decorated, lively with patrons, and had a good singer/guitarist to add to the vibe. Slightly off-putting was how bright it was in there! My BF and I commented to each other as to how we would have preferred the lights to be dimmed for a more intimate feel. It seemed as though they hadn't received their glassware yet as all of the drinks we ordered were served in plastic cups. The Old Fashioned and Whiskey Sour were tasty. I didn't care for my Pink Poma. Overall I would enjoy Herman Marshall again with a few minor tweaks to the operations. Glad to have this type of establishment in Downtown Wylie! read more

Had an amazing time today at the distillery. Got to meet both Herman and Marshall today. We were able to try all of their products as well. Earlier this year I traveled to Kentucky and toured many of the distillers up there. They were massive with a lot of history and amazing sights to see. I believe I learned more today then I did my entire time in Kentucky. Herman is a wonderful tour guide. Had a great time and left there with two autographed bottles to add to my collection. The best whiskey distillery tour I have ever been on. Herman of Herman and Marshall led the tour and gave us all an intro into whiskey tasting, history, and the process. It was an extremely informative tour that no matter your knowledge, you could learn something new. You can see how much Herman loves what he does just by sitting in on one of his free tours. I was there for about 2 hours and i could've stayed much longer, it was that good. All I can say is, it's a must do. Id just like to take a minute to recognize Herman Marshall, but more specifically all of the staff. Statistically speaking, it's usually only bad reviews that are given and that's not an accurate representation of a business or its staff. I was there yesterday, and like it can be sometimes, it was BUSY! Despite it being busier than I've seen it in a while, the servers and bartenders were fantastic! Everyone was moving with a purpose the entire time. I never saw any of the servers or bartenders standing around, doing nothing. The drink orders were prompt, accurate and always amazing.
