Stunning resort right on the beach. Our rooms were lovely and clean. The view from our room directly to the beach was picture perfect. I especially loved being able to hear the crashing waves. The pool and hot tub area was well maintained. The walk from our rooms to the beach was less than 5 minutes. The staff working the beach were super helpful and set us up with chairs and umbrellas. Made for a perfect visit. They also provided beach towels. The location was very close to town and easily accessible by car. read more

We stayed in unit C 12. This was our 40th wedding anniversary . It was a disaster. The Tv was broken and could not be fixed . The outlets in the bathroom did not work either. We had to go to the store to buy coffee because the cheap coffee maker only perked grinds . This unit advertised it slept 6 but there were only 5 beds so my son had to sleep on a worn out outdated cheap couch . We paid a lot of money for this disaster of a stay. People that own these units need to update and make sure things work. It's very u fair for a family to have to pay so much money and have to deal with all of this. I hope the next person gets a better stay . read more

Location is perfect. On the beach with chairs and umbrella is fabulous. The units are a horse of another color. For the money, it's a bit of a rip unless you get an updated unit. We stayed in a unit that was stuck in the 1970's. Water pressure is non-existent, bathrooms are tiny and the second bedroom has no tv and the bed is for midget. They say all units are clean etc etc but buyer beware. Ask about your unit before Beach is magnificent. That can make up for a lot. read more

My 12yo son and I booked a three-night stay in April - during Easter - at The Hermitage Resort. We knew it was off-season, and that the weather would be potentially problematic, so we were hoping the room would make up for it. Picture a single mom and 12yo son saying a little prayer outside their door before going in their rooms for the first time. Because when you're watching every dime, and you put all your dough into a place that looks good online, you hope it holds up in reality as well. When you have one chance at making a memory for your child, you want it to work out the first time. "Can I go in first?" my son asked. "Yes," I said, deep-down still praying that the place was worth it. But when his "OH MY GOD THIS PLACE IS HUGE!!" came out, I was thoroughly relieved and beaming with happiness. The entire suite had high ceilings - beautifully high ceilings. There were two bedrooms and two bathrooms. One bathroom was connected to the master bedroom and one was in the hallway. The hall bathroom was a bit cramped, but still positioned in a great spot. There was a ton of closet space with new organizers in each. The master bedroom had a huge TV and the living room had a huge TV. Everything worked really well. There was a kitchen with a full refrigerator, stove, microwave and a toaster oven that were all very clean. There was even a dishwasher - which I've never seen in a hotel before. Every utensil that I needed was there - the only thing I had to buy was plastic bags for extra food. The fridge was large and extremely clean (I didn't realize it wasn't fully running when I came in, but easily turned it up once we bought food - it worked perfectly). The grounds were clean and despite the rainy weather, we were thrilled to be there. Without question will be booking again next year, same time. Because despite Montauk's usual attractions not being open due to the off-season, I loved this place. The wifi worked great - thank GOD - and there was an HDMI cord waiting for us at the large TV in the living room - I was shocked to see that but grateful. We were able to sign-in to our movie subscription accounts (and signed out when leaving). I noticed construction going on in another building, so I'm guessing the older units are being updated (*Just read someone else's review, poor things. I would suggest they try again, even for one night and maybe let the folks know they'd like a newer space?) I attempted twice to leave a review on Hotels.com, but their site errored-out twice. You are paying over a thousand a night for the location and staying in a room that rivals an aging Motel 6. In the many years that we have gone, we have never been without a maintenance issue- this year, the air conditioning didn't work in 95-degree weather. And for some reason the rooms are always crazy damp. We had two dehumidifiers working full time, and they had to be emptied every few hours. read more

This place which is right n the beach in the easternmost tip of Amagansett is a 3 star at best resort. This is a converted motel that was turned into Condo units many years ago. Some of the owners put their units up into a rental pool which is run by a management office of Dune Resorts. Some of the units are nicer than others. They are functional but definitely not luxurious. At the moment because of Covid there are zero cleaning or maid services, you are on your own. The keys to the units are old fashioned physical keys. If you lock yourself out of the unit after 5pm you are pretty screwed because the office closed promptly at 5pm. Ask for extra keys. The beach is really the only truly great thing about the Hermitage. Excellent beach location, ice umbrella and chaise lounge service. So if you want a great beach spot and don't care about services at all this is a good choice. read more

The office staff rates a 5! They are helpful, sweet and know their property well. I stayed in c10 pool view first floor. The unit owner invested zero dollars in this rental property. The whole unit was painted basic white with a few dated cheaply framed posters , the small bathrooms were old and original, The kitchen was somewhat updated and the tile floor was so poorly installed the tiles were popping up all over the place. The unit had a pool view with an outside patio. The patio furniture was plastic and the arm of the chair was broken. The small pool was heated with plenty of chairs around the pool deck. Pool attendant Sam was friendly and nice. Beach was a short walk from pool. Nature beach was beautiful and quiet. Beach attendants were pleasant and set up chairs and towels quickly. I'm not sure if I would return to this property. Unit so close to beach was definitely a perk but it was so basic with NO luxuries. read more

Stayed for two nights and this place was ok at best, when you factor in the ridiculous price it's definitely not worth it. I've stayed in many places in montauk and this place is very low on the value scale. For example, you can stay at Gurnerys for not much more yet get so much more. A MUCH higher aesthetic, a spa, restaurants, a full staff at your service at all hours, patios, bars, etc etc. Here you get an old condo, cheesey 1980s beach decor, a meh pool, old rubber beach chairs, a tiny "gym" and the best part, absolutely no one available to you after hours, which presented a big problem for us when we got locked out of our room at 5:30 pm Saturday. They only issue actual keys for the room and they only gave us one at that. When I realized I locked myself out I went to the office and saw that it was closed. No worries though, certainly there is an after hours contact. Well, there was a number to call but it went straight to voicemail. No outgoing message either so I had no idea if I was even calling a relevant phone number. Regardless, I left a message after calling numerous times. I also called the front desk and left a message there. I emailed Ken, a manager or something, at his work email and his private email which I googled. I tried finding his phone number via google, tried about three numbers, no answer. So now what? I called the police. They said they'd see if they could find them. In the meanwhile, my husband suggested we climb onto the second floor balcony. I told him he was insane. After an hour of no response and realizing we had nothing but our phones with us, I grew more desperate. I didn't have my car keys or wallet. If we didn't get in we were spending the night in the car, which luckily was unlocked. So after looking at what the climb onto the balcony would entail I decided I would do it since I'm much more flexible than my husband. With him spotting me I went ahead and climbed onto the balcony and we got in. I didn't end up hearing from anyone from the hotel until 11:30 the next day!!! The response was that he hopes I was able to successfully find the after hours contact information. Yes Ken, I was successful in finding the after hours contact information, that part was quite easy. It was getting a response from your after hours contact that wasn't so easy. I responded to his email and explained what happened and the worst part? I have yet to get any sort of apology. He simple hasn't responded. Shaking my head. I've read other reviews for this place and seems I'm not the only person to have had this type of issue. If your looking for a good place to stay in montauk I highly recommend The Beachcomber. Less expensive and better all around. read more

Stayed in C8 lower pool view room. We can still see the ocean and dunes from our deck so it still has a great view just not at close. You enter the unit from the outside, not a hotel layout but the area is very safe so that doesn't make it feel like a motel. The property seems very well maintained. Even though almost every amenity was closed for the season during our stay (we still had one more night to go) that's fine. Coming from a NYC studio, this feels like a house. The owners have decorated it beautifully with nice gray linen couches and high quality hardware in kitchen and bath. Only one bath has a tub but it was just the 2 of us. It feels brand new, no weird smells. The AC worked great. The only thing I would suggest to the owner is a better quality mattress in the main bedroom, or at least a pillow topper. It's way too hard, last nights sleep was a little rough but there was lots of pillows to work with at least. I almost gave a 4 for this reason. But paying $160 taxes in per night, even off season is a great deal for what you get here. Also, someone posted they don't have coffee makers so I emailed the resort to confirm and they assured me all the units do FYI, and ours did. I suggest asking for an upgrade in your booking however you do it. When I asked at check in he couldn't but suggested giving more notice next time so they can try, so who knows it can't hurt. He still said he might be able to move us for our last night so we'll see. Also I triple confirmed before we came, the hot tub is not open if pool is closed like some hotels do. read more

We checked in our room and were disappointed with how tired it looked, surprised since we had been here before. There should be a minimum standard of interior finishes and furniture for a place like this. The kitchen was missing a few things, pot holders, some pans, etc, minor problems. Also they were doing outside work which left the deck covered with paint chips, parking lot had debris from the dumpster and I found utility knife blades by the back of our car. Now to be fair this is no reflection on the people cleaning the room itself, they did the best job you could expect. But most important thing is when we went to the office to address the issue,the staff could not be more accommodating. They changed our room to a beautiful space next door, and we are great full. So thank you again staff for understanding , it goes a long way. read more

This is my first year at the Hermitage. In my opinion it's a great place to stay. The service is great,the rooms are big,and it has a private beach. A man gets beach chairs and an umbrella for you. There is really nothing to complain about except for the fact that since I'm 9 years old i got sent out of the hot tub even though i had an adult with me. Celebrated our father's 75th birthday in the Hamptons. Our whole family was very pleased with this choice of hotel. The location was perfect situated right in the middle between Amagansett and Montauk. The hotel is on a very beautiful stretch of beach. The grounds of the facility were impeccable. They have a couple of nice tennis courts and small, but well maintained gym. They do have new propane grills should you want to BBQ one night. The pool facility was also very well maintained and pleasant. The staff was very friendly and laid back, in a good way. Milton the manager was extra helpful if you needed anything. They were also very accommodating during the reservation process as they held rooms for us without a deposit. I really appreciated that as we made complicated family arrangements. The only two things I would comment on would be the lack of sound proofing between the upper and lower level rooms. This wasn't much of a problem except one night it sounded like the people above us were dropping bowling balls. Also, our room did smell of stale cigarette smoke. The rooms were clean and immaculate but we could definitely smell a smoker once resided here. All in all a great stay and I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody, family or otherwise. Dune Resorts manages a number of co-op or condo properties that are owned by individuals. Some owners renovate and maintain their units better than others. Hermitage is the best property we've stayed at. The units are all 2 bedrooms, are large and laid out properly and very well furnished. They have a decent sized gym, big pool, tennis courts and have gas BBQs for guests. it's a little pricey but during the summer all of the Dune Resort properties are expensive on weekends. If you stay at any of the other Dune managed properties you must ask if it was refurbished any time recently and whether you have wi fi and how the unit is laid out. In one unit the only bathroom was actually accessed from the kitchen and some haven't been fixed up in a very long time. Sadly the price difference between a newly renovated unit and one badly in need of renovation is often imperceptible. I only know that at Hermitage I've always had a good experience. Not always at SeaCrest, Ocean Colony or WaveCrest. Then again you are here for the beach which is always great. read more
