The 4 stars are about the service mostly and less about the food or coffee. Staff worked with me to try to find anything they could for me with all my allergens. Ended up with some lunch meat and some avocado. They didn't charge me much for it, which bonus points honestly. The coffee i had was decidedly not good though. One of the fall drinks. Was so bad I only sipped it twice and then tossed it. Family ate their meals but didn't seem enthused. Half of one meal got tossed from someone who usually eats the whole plate. Right on Main St in beautiful Durango, Colorado, this little cafe is awesome! The menu posted is full of delicious treats made on site. Thick, fluffy quiches, fat shiney cinnamon rolls, great sandwiches and a variety of toasts - all of which call you back for more. Super nice staff... Mason answered all my questions and was super nice and helpful. The food was delicious all around, but I was particularly fond of the scones. I also had an espresso that was excellent. The beans were perhaps a medium/dark roast and i prefer medium on most occasions... but that is personal preference. It's tough to give a 2-star review because this place seems to have such a great local presence. Unfortunately for us, our visit was no bueno. The shop is cute and right on main street, and it was one of the only places open early so we stopped in for some coffee and pastries. We stood in line near the pastry case and I noticed that there were some quiches sitting in pie pans, uncovered on the counter. As we got closer to the register, there were a few more pies and a few cinnamon rolls also sitting, uncovered in dishes on the counter. Their sign says their goodies are baked fresh daily but I recognized a few things in the case from a big box bulk store and the desserts we ordered tasted a bit stale. The cinnamon roll we got was hard as a rock - maybe it was because it was old or maybe because it had been sitting out in the open air? Who knows. We also got specialty coffees and neither had any flavor, despite both being flavored. We were able to doctor them up with some cream and sugar on the counter and went on our merry way. Hermosa does have great potential to be "hermosa", hopefully it was just an off day. read more

I think this is a friendly little spot. The coffee is pretty good, though I tend to stick to drip and the occasional latte. The food offerings are probably the best among the city's coffee shops. I particularly like the quiche offerings - bacon, green chile and cheddar is a pretty solid combo. Prices are a bit high, but portions are generous and the food is good. The best thing about this cafe is the ambiance. The front is noisy and brisk, as you would expect from a Main Avenue coffee shop, while the back is quiet and comfy. There is plenty of upholstered seating and a very comfortable couch. This is among the most pleasant places to read or get some work done. Unfortunately, there is one problem with Hermosa Cafe that has persisted over my dozens of visits to this cheerful spot. The service is very, very slow. The staff is quite friendly, but I suspect there are organizational issues that prevent brisk coffee service. I don't even bother coming in if there are more than three people in line. Just now, for example, I waited almost fifteen minutes for an iced coffee. This is not great. On the whole, I like this place - if you're not in a hurry, and why should you be in our chill town, you will too. I can recommend it. Happy travels! Seatbelts! read more

Had to stop and grab coffee so we took a walk to this little joint on the strip. My boyfriend was excited to learn he could get a beer for breakfast. They had a couple different quiches for breakfast and fresh pastries. We didn't try any food but I ordered a latter and he had a lager. Large dude at the counter seemingly has zero customer service expertise. Could hardly take our order and seemed annoyed that I asked for an item to be left off of my sandwich. Later I asked him for a lemon and he said they didnt have any, I saw one on the counter literally right in front of him, then he told me to go into the kitchen and ask the cooks. We really love this coffee shop and come here every time we're in town. The pastries and hot toasts from the kitchen are unique and delicious. There is an ample selection of coffee and tea drinks. The bar with beer, wine, and mimosas is a nice touch. The atmosphere is also eclectic and Bohemian. It is true the service can be a little slow but all the food and drinks come out looking and tasting great! There is a system to how the small team of baristas manages to crank out orders. I can usually drink mine w/o sugar, but I had to use a packet to make it drinkable. Extremely disappointing. The BLT was delish, as was the Morning Glory muffin. Coffee Cake muffin was a little dry.
