Porchlight Coffee makes some yummy coffee drinks! I've been here a couple times and have had a good experience with friendly staff. Today I tried the Lola Nana which has a touch Filipino touch with Turon flavors, the right amount of sweetness with espresso. They have ample seating and a nice aesthetic inside with the photos and decor around. I also came by to their anniversary party a few months ago and they had a fun birthday drink special that had confetti sprinkles. Saw an instagram reel about this place and was like "ooooo I wanna go there" 1. Parking-- hope you drive a small car & know how to parallel park! 2. Service-- mid. Wasn't super welcoming/friendly, but also wasn't rude. Just very.. i'm-gonna-do-me-until-you're-ready aka I'm-finna-be-on-my-phone. 3. Bagels. I wanted one, but they were sold out. Kinda wish they pulled the ones on display so I wasn't being taunted by what could not be. I arrived at 10:30am ish so I'm not sure how many bagels they stock per day, but I guess get there earlier if you want bagels? Or just go to the source. 4. Kouign Amann (2/5). Great buttery flavor between each layer, but a burnt underside and no sweetness on the top. 5. Matcha Latte with Ube cold foam (0/5) this tasted like someone poured water and ice into a cup of milk. DONT DO IT. 6. Interior: it's cute! I loved the overall feel of the place. Felt like a nice place to catch up with a friend. Kind odd that the music kept shutting off so the place was an awkward quiet at times. Overall, would I recommend this place? No. Would I come back and give it another try? Initially walking up to the cashier in a green hat was unpleasant and unfriendly. She moved a menu that I have touched as if I was a child then proceeded to have conversation with staff instead of interacting with us. We ordered and sat down, she didn't call when our order was ready but did bring out the food to other clients that were there and had a conversation with them. The coffee is not great, the shmear wasn't good, the only thing that was good was their bagel itself. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

I was super excited to try this place and it did not disappoint. The inside is super cute with plenty of seating and a little private back area. The barista's were extremely friendly and personable. The lattes all sound really amazing but I went there specifically for the Lola Nona and it was everything I hoped for. I appreciated that the barista asked if I wanted it regular sweet or half sweet. I went with half sweet and was very happy with the balance of the coffee. I will definitely be back to try some of their other lattes. read more

This cafe is pretty good, but just okay for me. They were out of oat milk, so I opted for a hot latte with almond milk and a everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. The latte was just alright and the bagel was a bit sour and hard to chew for me - definitely a personal preference but I don't like the sourdough/ yeasty bagels as much as regular bagels. The cream cheese was really good though. Overall this is a solid place to sit down with a friend and take a few pics - the interior is really cool and colorful. But I would probably hit other spots if i'm looking for a great latte or bagel. read more

Cool coffee shop in Pacific Beach. I picked up an iced ceremonial matcha latte with a touch of honey for $8 plus tax. The iced matcha was delicious. It was well made and the touch of honey balanced the beverage very well. The quality of the matcha was very good. The plastic cups they use are very cool. They are sturdy and offer a multipurpose lid. They offer Desperado Bagels from a local baker in Ocean Beach. I did not try one, but other patrons commented that they were great. The service was easy going and friendly. There's a very good amount of inside seating and some on the outside. The only draw back of this place is that they do not accept cash. read more

Amazing place! Coffee was good, baked treats were yummy, not overly sweet, staff was awesome!!! Such a great first experience! Ok. Unbeknownst to us we walked in 5min before closing on a Sunday and took a little time to review the menu and order. The staff: Kennedy and Mae were awesome, gave good recommendations and took care of us. So we are sitting there literally past closing and they never said a thing or made us feel rushed. When we realized we apologized and they were so nice about it and ensured us it was ok because they still had to clean up for closing. I got the cortado and my friend got the iced birthday coffee drink and then I got this honey butter croissant thing (kouign-amann: heated) that was delicious. Not too sweet and so yum! Then opened the company's instagram to see that their hours for New Years Day quite literally say 8 am- 1 pm... Kindly made 2 out of 3 drinks in my mobile order but were "out of chai". I've been wanting to try PorchLight Coffee since I saw they opened (post on Instagram). The outside was super cute and vibrant, modern. It was crazy busy today and luckily the ramp on the outside allowed for a nice queue. The window seating was a nice spot for people watching and a cool breeze. The interior of the shop was light sage pastel color with white and natural wood tones. The way the interior is set up, doesn't allow for optimal seatings though. For the space that they have I think the circular tables eliminate possible availability for sitting. They have a table in the back, but today (Sunday) there was an event back there...further limiting the spaces for seating. Although, it is not just a coffee shop-- it's a place to connect with community and by having this event they were definitely doing so! The workers were really sweet. The menu at the front of the line is different than the one they have at the front counter. If the menu by the door was updated that would be nice. I think the pricing for adding flavor to your coffee is too expensive especially because they use a powder (for caramel, vanilla, ube, and mocha). These aren't house made syrups therefore they shouldn't be that expensive. In my opinion, the ranges of prices are more on the expensive side compared to other coffee shops in the area. I ordered an $7: 16 oz, Iced Caramel Latte with Whole Milk. The ice they use is small and I wish they'd use bigger ice cubes. To keep the drink colder longer and so that in the sunny San Diego heat it doesn't melt so quickly. The caramel powder wasn't throughly mixed when I got the drink. The flavor was really light, not tasting like caramel at all-- for $1 I think that was quite disappointing. It was ok-- overall as a latte; but I wouldn't come back again for coffee. My mom got a Cappuccino -- she said it was not as hot as you'd expect it to be (lukewarm). And no coffee taste. My brother ordered a cold brew although they called him out while we were waiting and informed him that they ran out (it was 10:40ish am). They offered to give him an Iced Americano instead. He said it was okay. They have Desperado Bagels. When looking at the menu by the door, they didn't have many schmears options, but when we got to the counter there were 4 other new ones listed [spicy pickle, chai + blood orange jam, famous zesty herb (all $3), and smoked salmon ($5)]. If we come back next time, it will be to try their bagels which I heard are very delicious! read more

PorchLight Coffee is a quaint coffee shop that has popped up in the middle of a block on Cass St in PB. The space formerly housed a landscaping business so it was completely transformed in order to be able to function as an eatery. There's no on-site parking so you have to locate a curbside space on one of the side streets if nothing is available on Cass. It was quite packed when I arrived in the afternoon to pick up a snack. The inside was compact to say the least with up to ten small round tops for seating. I didn't notice any outdoor tables, but maybe there was a back patio?The wall behind the kitchen preparation area listed the available beverages while a laminated menu sheet was displayed at the service counter. Coffee, tea, matcha, and fresh orange juice were the drink choices while Desperado Bagels from OB and some baked goods were the food offerings. What I didn't like was the lack of pricing as mentioned by another reviewer. The business has been open for a few weeks now. Transparency on how much items cost should be a priority as it slows down the ordering process if customers have to ask for prices. Perhaps a QR code can be created and scanned for pricing. I didn't need a beverage as I had one in my vehicle so I chose a couple of the baked goods on display at the counter. My picks were two different pieces of pound cake, Chai Peach and Lemon Ginger. Each of the flavor combinations was creative, and the cake was moist. The issue was that each slice cost a whopping $6. One used to be able to purchase an entire loaf of pound cake for that much. I had already spent a few minutes waiting in line and wanted to support this local cafe, therefore I went ahead with the transaction. read more

Very cute and new coffee shop in north PB! Dogs allowed! Definitely recommend checking out. Parking is tough, but you'll be able to find something on the side streets. There will be a line but it moves fast! And the workers were fantastic! Gave me a punch card to come back :) I got an iced oat milk latte, which was delicious. Although I do wish they used bigger ice cubes, because when I sipped they kept on coming out of the little hole! We also got a flat white which I was told was a little too bitter for their liking. I first came here when it opened last year and have been back probably 3-4 times since... And the one thing that I will say is each time that I have come here, the coffee is never good or memorable. When they initially first opened, I thought that maybe it was just something that was going to improve over time, but the coffee is extremely weak and the flavors are also lacking. Being Filipino the ube flavored latte was so disappointing because it tastes nothing like ube, not even a little bit. The lattes are just overpriced for what you're getting. I think each time I've gone as well, I've had to ask them to modify my drink in someway. One of the times I came last year, I met the owner who was extremely kind but the rest of the staff isn't very friendly in my experience of going there since. It's not that they're rude, but you just know the difference when you walk into a coffee shop and you feel welcomed, and it's definitely not the case here. Their bagels are super good but that's about it. The atmosphere is obviously very nice because it's an a less busy part of PB even though barista botanist down the street is extremely crowded... But overall it's an aesthetic and chill place to visit or sit down at. If you wanna just have somewhere to sit down that isn't overwhelmingly busy, especially on a nice day in PB this is a good spot. I've been wanting to try Desperado bagels for a while, but didn't want to have to pre order them ahead of time. I was so excited to learn PorchLight carries their bagels! The bagel was top notch - fluffy and filling. One of the closest you can get to NY style. I also got an iced matcha and it was delicious and in a nice plastic sip cup vs the usual paper ones. I've been into this place a few times. Today I came in 20 minutes before closing and they were cleaning when I got in so I asked them if they were already closed. They said yes, but they could make me a cold brew, which I said would be great since the website said they were open for another 20 minutes. The girl behind the counter seemed to have an attitude about it, and asking for milk, and a bit of sweetener seemed to make her even more irritated. It was about six dollars in total and it was really underwhelming. Unfortunate when hours are not listed correctly on yelp. Or if they decided to close early that I was giving an attitude about being in there when I was within their business hours. Probably the last time I'll be back. read more

Pretty cute, small little spot! The menu is high priced and fairly small. There was lots of seating and a nice, quiet vibe. The honey matcha latte was quite plain and didn't have a strong matcha flavor, it sort of just tasted like flavored water. The cappuccino was a bit heavy, but the espresso was very nice and mellow! The everything bagel was very delicious and soft! We did come a little bit before closing, but the service was still good. Overall, this is a nice little spot to stay and relax or study for a while. Mostly came here for the Desperado bagels, but I also got an Americano. Service was friendly and the space is very cute. I got an everything bagel with their special garlic/onion cream cheese - for $3 (or 4?) you get a very tiny amount of cream cheese. I would definitely opt to just use my own next time, even tho it was quite tasty. The bagels were chewy, yet soft and I get the hype to some extent, but I don't know how often I would go out of my way to get them. Overall, a solid experience all around! read more

Spat it out and was shocked to find it was some type of nylon or plastic string baked into the bagel. I likely ate piece of it :( and am really grossed out. Didn't expect some poison with my breakfast tbh. They definitely need to have their bakers wearing hair nets especially if they have hair extensions, which is what I'm guessing this was. Ordered the everything bagel with poblano, sausage, egg and a latte. The method they use to reheat the breakfast sandwich made the bagel very chewy and inedible. Two visits in one week, and I think I've found a great new neighborhood coffee shop! (La Clochette will always be #1 in my heart.) The biggest reason is the friendliness of the owner Mark: he is so genuine and welcoming and excited to get to know everyone! He told us it's been a 20-year dream of his to open a coffee shop in San Diego. And he hired a bunch of the former baristas from La Clochette, so that's automatic points in my book. They also have old-fashioned paper punch cards: buy 9 drinks, get one free! I will say this place is pretty small for how popular it's going to be. On a Sunday morning at 10:15am, I waited at least 20-30 minutes to order. The line was out the door and down the block. On a Friday morning at 8am, there were no open tables. So expect a long line and probably no open seating. They did mention they're planning to change up their seating to increase capacity; hopefully that will help. Wish they had a patio! The first time I came, I ordered a mocha but was given an iced mocha by mistake. I told them I'd just drink it, since they were slammed and I didn't want the drink to go to waste. Wasn't crazy about that mocha, but the latte I ordered on my second visit made up for it. 10/10 classic, plain, and simple latte. I'm not a bagel snob by any means but have been hearing great things about the bagels so will definitely be trying those on a future visit. Welcome to the neighborhood, Porchlight. I love desperado bagels and always wait for the weekends to get my fix, but last weekend they did a partnership for Porchlight coffee's opening, and it was literally so good. I hate when my latte is too sweet, and Porchlight makes it just the way I like (vanilla flavor is still there, but not sweetness overload and you can still taste that it's actually coffee lol) Food was so good we didn't have the time to even take good photos of it... but that's when you know it's bomb! Unfortunately not for me. I was very interested in trying a new coffee spot that opened in pacific beach. I ordered a cinnamon iced latte and an almond croissant. The cinnamon latte was very very watery and they charge an extra dollar for cinnamon which is just sprinkled on (not a syrup like I had assumed). The croissant was flat and not airy at all, very strange consistency. 2 stars because the service was friendly and quick but overall extremely overpriced for what you get. read more

I honestly never leave reviews. I'm a busy single mom and business owner, constantly juggling work and life, and it just never feels like there's enough time. So the fact that I'm sitting here writing this should tell you everything about how special this place is. You never really know what someone else is going through, and I don't usually share much about my personal life, but this is a particularly stressful and overwhelming season for me. And yet, every time I walk into Porchlight, I feel a kind of authentic warmth and care that hits deeper than I think the staff even realize. Just being able to grab my coffee and feel remembered, welcomed, and thought of, it really makes a difference. The moment that pushed me to finally write this was when I was parked across the street answering emails. The staff noticed me, remembered that I was one punch away from a free drink, made my drink and actually walked it over to me and knocked on my window. It was such a small gesture, but to me it was huge. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare. I'm writing this not just to tell people they should absolutely come here (because they should), but also to say to the owners and management: your staff is doing something really special. They've created a community that feels genuine and welcoming, and that's not easy to do. They deserve to be recognized for the way they treat people, it's the kind of thing that keeps someone like me coming back again and again. 10 stars! read more

Came in to Porchlight on a Sunday morning and was pleasantly surprised to be able to find seating to get some work done! I've been wanting to try this spot, but every time I've come by during the week it was pretty packed so I was excited to finally give it a shot. I got a latte with honey and oatmilk (no extra charge for milk substitutes!) and it was pretty good. They use small ice though so it was coming through the lid when I sipped and I feel like it melted pretty fast. I like the heart shaped stopper they include on their cups, such a cute touch. The baristas were super sweet too. They have skylights which let in a lot of nice natural light along with the big front window. When I first got there there was no line, but only a few open tables. By the time I left around noon most of the tables had opened up but the busyness was fluctuating throughout my stay. Definitely try it out if you're in the area! read more

Really wanted to love this place! Staff was super friendly hence the two stars. But $12 for a matcha seems insane...I get that it's ceremonial grade but the cup was filled 75% with ice which resulted in about 4 sips of drink. I am not sure if this is standard with all iced drinks but next time I would definitely ask for light ice. read more

Stopped here for the first time before heading out of town, and was pleasantly content with the atmosphere and the friendliness and talkative nature of the staff that took our order. He was very sweet and great energy. The bagels looked amazing, and they had cool different types and shmear for them. Also their pastries were fresh baked daily, he said and they also looked amazing. I got the lavender camomile rose hot tea which was amazing, a bottled peach ginger magnesium drink, which was light and delicious and the vegan power bowl with dragonfruit, nuts, coconut pieces, and some other things in it. I was most excited about that, but it honestly tastes like VOMIT. I do not recommend. I couldn't put my finger on what ingredient made it taste so awful, but I think it could have been the coconut cream that was in the dragon fruit puree. Dog friendly, saw lots of pups in line after us, and they even have dog treats in a jar at the register. Cute place right by the beach. read more
