I always drive past this place and never check it out so I decided to go in and try a hero today. The inside is much bigger than I expected. It has a pizza area, a sit-down area, and grocery aisles in the middle. When I arrived there was one person in front of me. I ordered a New Orleans, a Tuna Hero, and a Bacon egg and cheese as I was with my family. I brought the meal home so I could try it. I've never had a hero outside of ham, turkey, or tuna so I stepped out of my comfort zone here. The New Orleans was very delicious and had a lot of flavors in it. It was coupled with tomatoes, lettuce, and onions. I would say that I went back a second time since my first and did not enjoy the New Orleans that well. I imagine whoever makes it might have an effect on it. My sister had the BEC and my mother had the tuna. They both stated their heros were delicious. Lastly, we also ordered a panini to try and that wasn't too bad but I did feel like the meat was a little dry. Lastly, we waited about roughly 35 - 45 minutes for our sandwiches so the next time I definitely did call ahead.. and sadly still had to wait about 5-8 minutes upon arrival. When you look at places like these with very low stars, sometimes you think there's just no way, maybe it was a bad day, maybe they have sensitive taste buds, maybe they just think all food is bland. I craved a hero. I found a place called Hero Haven. I thought I found a match made in heaven. If I could sue for false advertisement, I would. The restaurant desperately needs to change their name from hero haven to Last Option Locally Haven". It was an incredibly subpar hero, having the turkey and the Italian. I almost forced myself to finish it because I didn't want the money to go to waste and people are struggling with food. I always wondered how can one sandwich spot be better than the other when they are using the exact same cuts of meats from the exact same company boar's head. I've never tried this place before but I just ordered 2 heroes through DoorDash and have never had such an awful hero. I paid for two full size heroes and they sent 2 halves. Both of our heroes were missing the lettuce and tomato and one was missing the bacon. I took a few bites and mine went in the garbage. Stay away from this place. read more

When I spoke to the gentleman at the front he said the black particles and something plastic in there were from the lemonade powder?? REALLY?? Returned the lemonade and the food. Love this place, been going for years. We like to get pizza before, after, or to bring to the beach since it's on the way. You literally cannot beat the prices!! And the food doesn't taste like cheap food, and you can literally see them making the fresh food in front of you. Sometimes we get one of the specials with wings, garlic knots, etc. and they're always good as well. On the other side, when I don't have kids with me I LOVE their hero sandwiches, which are also a great price. It's also convenient in that they have some grocery style foods in between on the shelves, and snacks and such. In the one establishment, you can find something for everyone. read more

Wow, I just read all the negative reviews. Guess I'm not alone. They used to be very good. But now this place is a joke. I ordered many times from them. Then one day my order is wrong and I complained to DoorDash. The next 3 times I tried to order from them, they cancelled my order everytime. I complained to DoorDash about that as well. They take your money and hold it for a few days after this place pulls this game. My complaint was that they gave me the wrong hero. That was it. So, if you want to play games. This place is the place for you. As for myself, there's better places that don't act like children. Good riddance! Thanks to the reviewers here too. I had a bad experience a while ago and I'm not sure how to tag that review but in any event I went down today for the fresh bagels. I was greeted by the owner; he was very friendly, the store was clean. I got a dozen and a half of fresh out of the oven bagels. They were great. Location: Hero Haven and More Address: 478A Neighborhood Rd, Shirley, NY 11967 Tel: 631-399-3802 On  5/31/2020 I placed an order by phone for pick up; upon arriving at 7:00 pm (they can check the cameras, and you'll know who the employee is) I noticed the sign clearly posted on the front door; asking patrons to enter with a mask as mandated by the state due to the covid19 pandemic, I enter the establishment to obtain my order; once at the cashier counter, I was paying for my purchase, when I asked the thin white woman in her 30's, that was helping me behind the counter why she was not wearing a mask as required by the state mandate; her reply was "I work 14-hours, and my nose runs, and it bleeds." ( At that moment with her reply, I should have left my order). Guess what; this person shouldn't be working in a food establishment.  Her reply was disgusting, especially when I'm picking up food. A face mask is a requirement by the CDC for establishments, that obviously is being forgone by this employee, as everyone other employee was wearing a face mask. As a person that has been personally impacted by Covid19, I personally; feel this person is disrespectful to the customers and the community by not wearing the required face mask. I will not be purchasing at this location ever again.  If Hero Haven can't help keep the community healthy, then you do not deserve business from me. Hate to write a review like this but i have to warn people so this does not happen to them. They must use a cheap wire brush to clean the pizza oven.I got a piece of the wire stuck in the back of my throat.Almost had to go to the hospital to remove it but i got it out a day later with tweezers.If i would of swallowed it i would of needed surgery. So make sure if you still want the pizza that you inspect it and chew it good. Hopefully the owner see's this and buys a better brush before he gets sued read more

They've gone down hill. The hero's are awful and mostly bread. They're either soggy or empty. It's just not worth it, there's too many other options in the area that will make a hero with some meat on it and that are delicious. If they don't step their game up, they won't last. read more

Update... I've ordered two times since my first post and the food is still on point but delivery got here in under 15 minutes!!! Delivery guy is cool as hell too! Food is amazing, friendly staff and great portions for the price. My only complaint is the delivery time. I think they use a web based service for delivery? The entire building could best be described as an establishment full of clowns. Every single employee is either high or drunk on the job. They have no problem selling bread and meat that has fallen on the floor. They do not properly clean any surfaces ever. It is absolutely over priced garbage food and I could not state enough how much of a mistake it is to eat there. The owner keeps a skeleton crew to save money and it shows in his product. He has three people doing the work of five or six. The Better Business Bureau, Department of Health, Department of Labor all need to check into this place. I know this as a former employee who had to quit over my wages being manipulated, not being respected at work, in front of customers no less. Also having morals and not wanting to serve people crap I just watched my coworker pick up off the refrigerator room floor. Worst restaurant I have ever eaten or worked at, hands down. I didn't have any expectations on this place going in. The parking is on the side of the building, I thought this was a deli type business, but walking in I saw how big it was. The place overall is clean and very organized. I was going to get a hero until I saw the pizza. I spoke to the guy that made the pizza and got two specialty slices. I love how they put the deli on one side and the pizzeria on the other. He gives you a ticket and you bring it to the counter to pay. All the specialty slices are $3.50, but when you see how thick they are you know it's worth it. The staff is very friendly, they gave me free blue cheese when some places charge and they even walked it to the table for me. The lady working there told me the place is family owned and operated and that she was part of the family. She really seemed like she cared about the place. After getting the food it was time to taste it. The pizza was actually really good. The slices were thick and had real ingredients. Bacon, chicken, ricotta, and cheese tasted fresh. The bacon was perfect. I enjoyed my entire meal. The only one negative was my slice was cold (you guys that read my stuff know about me and cold food) so you know I have issues with sending it back and making them feel bad. That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars. They are worth it and I will go again, next time I will just have them leave it in longer. read more

Other than that, the heros are a good size and tasty. They make a bunch of speciality sandwiches and salads (fresh mozzerella & mushroom salad = yum). I hear the pizza is good, but I've never tried it. Prices are about what you would expect for a place like this. The BEST thing about this place is the HUGE candy selection. I have been a customer for a little over two years, I religiously order a pizza every Wednesday night. I have always loved there food. They always made it to order. The past few times I have noticed something is off. They definitely changed something. I continued to go back just hoping they had an "off night". This past Wednesday when my pizza was delivered it appeared to be dropped or tipped over for a long period of time. I was told that because by father who's a diabetic and had to eat so he had one of the slices that was eatable there only bringing be back a medium.
