This is my go to sandwich shop for the days I'm craving a sub or good laugh. I've come here probably 6 times in the last 5 months and each time I'm so impressed with their consistent service. They take pride in their food and the quality which sets them apart from others. My favorite is the pepper turkey with provolone. The bread is made daily and always fresh. They have a wide range of toppings for your sandwich too. I like their extra thin red onions and their oil vinegar mix. It makes the sandwich! If you like pulled pork, come here Mondays and Tuesdays for their homemade special sandwich. I tried it and it was the best I've ever had! They also have great veggie options like the tree hugger...eggplant, mozz, red peppers, and balsamic. Plus you can always make your own sandwich based on your preferences. Had a taste for a good ole turkey sub and I found this place in my local area! My sub was loaded with tons of turkey meat where I had to compress it a little to take a bite! Way better than the chain sandwich places, where they are stingy with the meat. Clean and inviting place where I sensed great, warm and welcoming customer service!! After a few failed attempts I finally made it here to see (and taste) what all the hype is about. The 6th stop on 'Sub Crawl 2016' (with just a few weeks left) when I entered I was overwhelmed with all the options on the board so one of the workers let me know 'The Hoboken' was the day's special so I went with that, the 'UFO' and a ham 'n cheese for the kids. While I waited I scanned the celebrity wall and there's a lot of great autographed pictures but for me Hero King earned their first star for having an Uncle Floyd picture hanging up. Finally reached my house, famished, and started to dig in. The Hoboken was phenomenal. I couldn't have eaten it any faster - it was that good. The UFO looked like a serious contender. A stacked sandwich that looked perfectly put together but it ended up being underdressed and seasoned. A another splash of oil and vinegar and a pinch of spices and... this place would've been 5-stars without a doubt. Good eats all the same. read more

I've been wanting to stop in here for a while and finally was able to today... And wow! First of all, I had called just to confirm they were still open and the customer service I received from the start was simply amazing. Once I walked in the door, I was instantly welcomed and felt right at home. The owners John and Ray were so friendly, funny, and generous. Since they knew it was my first time there, they wanted to make sure my first experience was positive and it was. Now for the food, it was honestly the best sub I've ever had. Came here today since I was in Nutley. I found this location on yelp about a month ago & knew the reviews were good. I was greeted right away, ordered a ham, salami & provolone sub. I also purchased an orange soda, total was $9.22. I felt that was a reasonable price. No place to eat inside so you need to take your order to go. Once I got home, I was in HEAVEN! They don't have zero stars for robbing your customer but I would like to say first of all amazing sandwich every time! I have been ordering from this establishment for a few years but through Uber eats for delivery. I have never heard of this place only because of Uber eats I tried it. I've been paying $11.75 for a hero which had a good portion and definitely was good. I thought it was a little expensive but paid it because I thought it was good enough. Today I pick the sandwich up in the establishment for the first time But I used pick up on the Uber Eats app. The gentleman behind the counter told me he charges 30% more because that's what Uber charges him. ( so 8.95 for a sandwich if you don't use Uber eats) So if you're getting the sandwich delivered, you are paying 30% more for the sandwich plus the fees involved with Uber eats. So $15.95 for a sandwich! I was getting robbed from this establishment! How disrespectful and dishonest to inflate the Cost of your good. Unfortunately I will never eat here again for the dishonest nature of this establishment! A piece of advice check out the surrounding sandwich establishments. Nobody is charging their customers 30% more! Hero King is a thief! I want to thank the owner for replying! But the fees associated with the customers end Is billed to the customer by Uber eats. $1.49 delivery fee plus the service fee plus the tip for the driver. Your associated cost for using the platform should be absorbed by your company! Think of it as an advertisement agency that's charging you send Cents on the dollar. One of the cheapest advertising tricks in the business is to use a delivery service. Just so you know sir you're talking to a well seasoned restaurant consultant! I am completely well-versed in uber policies! You are robbing your customers point blank. I've been eating the sandwiches at that price for years! You cannot afford the platform then don't use it! Had the "Hoboken" and #18 Bread was so fresh as well as the roast beef and fresh mozzarella. It was an outstanding sandwich from top to bottom. The roast beef tasted like they just made it (which makes sense since this was a Saturday and the sandwich is only available Wednesday's and Saturday's). My wife had the #18 (salami provolone lettuce tomato onions oil vinegar) and had nothing but great things to say about it. My wife and I decided to host a party of about 10 of our relatives who all live about two hours north in upstate NY. We knew we didn't want to cook and proceeded to ask friends in the area where we could get a solid sandwich tray to feed the group. I'll tell you two things the hero king does well for first time customers: 1. Easy to access menu for both catering and single orders online. 2. Extremely helpful and friendly woman that answered questions and took order when I called. The food: Ordered a large sandwich tray.. Mac salad and garden salad. (Got a mix with some wraps too). Everything was packed perfect and came with dressings, etc.. Turkey, ham, roast beef - all delicious and some of the best deli meat I've ever tasted. Salads were fresh and exactly what the Mac salad dr ordered. The rolls and delicious light vinaigrette with the lettuce/cheese/tomatoes were impeccable. Fresh and delicious. All reasonably priced. Given the high quality and exceptional customer service on ordering and when I picked up... I would've easily payed 20-30 percent more. So I've been eye balling this place ever since I moved to Belleville 4 months ago. Having a good deli in your arsenal of lunch choices is always key. And the picture and reviews on yelp always caught my eye. In particular the "Larry David". I finally had a chance to go today on a rainy day, and I'm glad I did. The place looks very quaint and has that "romantic" feeling of a classic neighborhood Mom and pop shop. As soon as you walk in there's a small open space and the counter right in front of you. No tables or anything. Which told me right away this place must be built for FAST turnover of sandwiches. There was only one person in front of me waiting in line, but the nice pleasant manager who was making a sandwich still made time to make eye contact with me and acknowledge my presence in the store. I slowly made my way up to the counter and she asked me what I would like. I immediately said "I'd like to try that Larry David of yours." She said of course, asked me what size sandwich id like, what cheese, and reminded me that their special "sauce" has a little bit of a kick to it. I said that's perfectly fine. The sandwich only took a couple minutes to make and I was ready to pay. I also got their own brand soda (vanilla cream) a macaroni salad, and crab chips as well. So far, Service and ambiance was an A++! Now for the main event. I was planning on going back to work to eat this sandwich. But I couldn't wait. I ripped it open as soon as I got back to my car. It was wrapped first in foil then again in paper, so it could have definitely kept its warmth and freshness for a while. First bite? BLISS. Everything was firing on all cylinders. The star of the show was obviously the protein, the pastrami. Pastrami for me has always been hit or miss. It's either dry, or chewy, or really good. This was none of those, this was PERFECT. It's honestly the best pastrami I've ever had. Now maybe I'm in the honeymoon period, and I'm just really happy with my lunch choice. But it was tender, it was soft, they give you a lot, and most importantly it was FULL of flavor. Now everyone knows a sub can STINK if the bread is bad This bread was aces. It was soft and buttery like. Just complimented the pastrami so well. And made it easy to bite down fully and get a full bite of everything in your mouth. Now the surprise star of the show was the secret sauce. This sauce described as "thousand island dressing with a kick" and it was spot on! I even asked for extra sauce on the side just so I can taste it by itself and decide. And wow next time I'm gonna order this sandwich with EXTRA sauce on it!! All in all, I don't know what more to say. I love love love supporting neighborhood joints like this, especially ones that love their community back. You want them to succeed and have all the crazy success it deserves based on their product alone. But at the same time, as a "local" you want to keep this hidden treasure to you and your fellow community members!! Ill say this, yes I'll come back again (and again, and again, and again lol), but not only for the sandwiches. Good quality meats and cheeses, also satisfactory customer service by the entire staff. I ordered #17 with the works (light tomatoes and lettuce) and got their root beer soda ( very authentic, seriously good) and chips. Ordered just a half size and that was good enough for two, imo. Cute little shop that makes delicious sandwiches and wraps. Take out only. They have a nice variety (the only hot sandwich they make is Pastrami, otherwise it's cold subs and wraps). Hubby got a turkey and provolone on a spinach wrap that he loved. I got grilled eggplant, fresh mutz, and roasted peppers AKA The Tree Hugger. Really good and very refreshing and a nice alternative to eggplant parmesan, light and delicious and perfect for a hot day. They also have sides of pasta and macaroni and potato salad. I just wanted a hero sandwich and I got more than what i bargained for. The owner Johnny was really cool and treated us just like family. This place reminds me of the school delis in New York back in the day. The assortment of sandwiches are awesome and pricing not bad for the amount of meat and freshness of the sandwich. The half sub is about $7.40 and whole sub is $14.50, but its 16 inches (thats a whole lotta sandwich). You can literally split the half sub into another half. I bought the full sub so I could have some for later, which I have resting on my counter at home. The lettuce is shredded (which is the best), tomatoes sliced thin as well as the cold cuts. The bread is soft and does not cut your gum. The owner makes his own soda and juice, which was really awesome. He makes a chocolate egg cream, which I have never heard of and let me tell you that soda was soooo good and refreshing. He offered it to us for free to taste as well as the pineapple soda. He was definitely right about how good they are. He even gave bag of chips away as well. He is such a cool dude!!
