Booked a 3 day rental online and was quoted $334. The actual price was $500. Had abiur 3 extra fees not specified when I booked. The only thing I asked for was an extra driver which was an additional $45. Checking in at the counter for pick up was also confusing as I was quoted 3 different prices with varying deposits depending on which card I used. No explanation of fees or add ons. I declined any extra coverage. I have never had this happen with a rental with any company before and will NEVER rent a car through Hertz again. read more

Staff at Detroit rental for Hertz is rude and incompetent. At the counter they asked me to call hertz while I'm at the hertz counter. They are the worst people I've seen ever before. This was at Christmas and they tried to cancel my order even though I pre paid it. They are terrible and I hope they never have to get any service anywhere because of the way they treat disabled people. read more

The only reason there are two stars is because the staff was nice. The car was a piece of crap. It hadn't been cleaned well, it didn't smell good and it was way out of alignment. Hertz is definitely not the quality it used to be. I will not be using hertz again. read more

If you decide to rent from Hertz you should have your head examined! I'm not sure why this place is even in business, they sure don't want to rent cars to people. The employees here could care less about you or anything other than standing around and collecting a paycheck. It felt as though they are purposely refusing people just to get there jollies off! I witnessed 2 other people in front of me in line told to kick rocks as well. Here's the short version. My wife and I get off the plane an hour later than scheduled. We take a shuttle bus to the Hertz car rental building. ( The bus driver turns out is the only employee that dose any real work here.) After watching the grumpiest lady I've met in a long time berate an active duty Air Force Pararescue member because the vehicle he rented froze due to lack of proper antifreeze. I knew things were not going to go well. We presented the lady behind the counter with our on-line reservation. She looked it up and confirmed we had one. She informed us that because we did not have a return flight at that exact airport she would need a credit card or she would need 3 forms of id and they would have to run a credit check. Which I thought was strange. We explained that our return flight was in a different city and that was shown on the reservation. At that point we were handed our cards back and told that was not possible and that they would not be able to rent us a car. I asked to see the manager. she got on the phone but instead of asking for a manager she say's "I need a number 5" . Honestly I don't even know if the person I spoke with was actually a manage. He backed up the lady at the counter by telling me there was nothing they were going to do for us and that we needed to leave. I asked if we could take the shuttle back to the airport he said the shuttle was for customers only and it wasn't his problem how we were going to get back to the airport and in 20 degree weather with it snowing outside it's pretty messed up when you took a 10 minute bus ride to get there. so a $20 dollar Uber and a little help from the fantastic people at Enterprise Car Rental got us back on track. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM GOING TO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW NOT TO RENT FROM HERTZ. It may not be much but as a restaurant owner I'm sure I can spread the news to a few thousand people. read more

They allowed me to reserve a car with a debit card. When I got there they said they don't take them, but they also wouldn't accept a different card to pay. They said they would have to rebook a reservation that took the price from $123 to $450! When I said I wouldn't pay that price, the person at the counter told me to "call hertz." When I said, "you are hertz" she informed me should couldn't get "tied up on the phone" we were literally the only people there and there was another worker in the back. I had to call the hertz number multiple times and try and get our original price moved to our new reservation. If you don't take debit cards why do you allow someone to reserve with them? If someone reserves with a debit card why can't they pay with a credit card? If you have my original reservation why can't your staff and computers talk to each other to problem solve? The answer: because you want people to be stranded with no car and no other option than to pay and extra $300. I will never use Hertz again. read more

Been a loyal customer of Hertz for about 15 years. Always felt comfortable except when we picked up at the Detroit Airport location a couple years ago. This first time was a sh$t show- no one around- car not ready- The people who were there told each other "that's not my job"- I completed a survey about it. Was never contacted regarding our bad experience. This past April, my husband went home for a funeral and had to rent there again- they contact him a month later with a bill that the undercarriage was scratched - again- no one there when he returned the car, just a key drop off. Sending us to collections for an almost $800- no idea how they got $800 for the minor damage. The car sat in the driveway the whole 2 weeks he was home. What they blame him for would have been a very noticeable noise as a driver. Disgusting they treat us that way. Be careful, I guess during Covid-19, some businesses who are hurting, will do what they need to to get by. read more

the Location from hell. the agents are mean, the cars all smell like cigarette smoke and the front of the building is under constant work so there is no parking if you are getting dropped off there. best to go to the location at Metro Airport. Avoid this location unless you are looking to fight with each person who works there. Regardless of how nice you are - they will make you go off. read more

I had a great experience renting a car at this location. Everyone I encountered, both in person and over the phone, was friendly and helpful. The vehicle I was promised with my online reservation was available at the time promised. It was clean smelling, in good condition, and full of fuel. I called to extend my reservation for one day with no issues at all. The waiting area was comfortable enough while I waited for a ride. I will definitely consider this Hertz location for my future car rental needs. read more

This was the worst rental experience I have ever had. Booked a vehicle one month ahead, rang the day before to ensure vehicle and pickup time. The vehicle size we required was not available when we arrived and staff were not particularly helpful in securing a replacement. We waited three hours in the office to get a smaller vehicle. I think the staff are a little overwhelmed if there is any increased work load. This experience had me seriously considering my use of the Hertz network in the future. Hertz had fine helpful staff in Poughkeepsie NY which restored some of my faith a few days later. read more

I received an email from Hertz at the Marriott in the Renaissance Center, Detroit, Michigan, stating my car was reserved for 9:00 am. When I arrived their office was closed! There was a sign to call a number, which I did. They directed me to this Hertz location about a mile down the street, and said, "Can you catch a cab?" I'm supposed to pay to go to another rental outlet because the one that confirmed my reservation wasn't even open? I had a ride, so we drove to this Hertz only to be told there was no car available, one was on its way, but they didn't know when it would show up (One woman there also waiting for a reserved "no show" car asked them why they told her on the phone that the car was available, and the response was, "We're supposed to say that." It's now 10:30 am. I called an 800 number to Hertz and demanded they find me a car at another nearby rental outlet. After being on hold too long, they found me a car in Ferndale, Michigan. The sales person there was very personable and efficient. I got a good car and was on my way back to New York - 2 1/2 hours late, not getting home til after midnight! I'm trying to get some kind of compensation for this - callling puts me on hold forever and they are not responding to my emails. I will continue to press them. I strongly recommend you avoid Hertz when renting a car!! read more

Was supposed to have the car brought to our hotel within 30 minutes with an advance call. When I called, I was informed the car was being serviced and it would be there in an hour. After over an hour, still no car. When I called back, I was told it was still being serviced and they had no control. Received the vehicle after a two hour wait. The first time I started the car, I received a "Service Required" message in the car. I only rent from Hertz and always have a great experience. This was one of the worst. read more
