Hertz experience was the real disaster more than the airport in remodeling chaos. Every other rental company had buses circling every 15-20 minutes, but we were left waiting for almost an hour. When the bus finally did show up, it was so overcrowded that people were literally at each other's throats. It was basically a free-for-all just to get on. Then, to top it off, I get to the lot as a President's Circle member, expecting the perks that are supposed to come with that. It was noon, the reserved lot was 80% empty, and the "premium" selection was a joke. Just a bunch of random Jeeps and huge RAM pickups ready to haul horses and a handful of base-model Nissan Kicks and Kias. It's just pathetic. You're paying for a top-tier service as seems Economy, Budget and Thrifty are better, but you're getting a bottom-of-the-barrel experience. They aren't even trying anymore. read more

I got here at 0224. It is now 0316 and I have moved 10 feet. There's one agent for 30+ people. Also, the music has been skipping since I got here and I feel like I'm in purgatory. Update: it is 0420 and I'm still here with the music continuing to skip. Update: I'm finally being seen at 0520. Any type of check in that you do on the app doesn't count as anything so don't bother. Terry just spent 45 minutes with one person and before that it was 20 minutes. Honestly he was averaging 10 minutes a person until the very end. Music skip never got shut off. I hate this place. Service at the Hertz was below par for sure. I select the "Manager Special" and got a Buick that was a real lemon. The service manager was not helpful at all. I told him that I come often to Boston but this man could not care less. Part of the President's Club. The electric panel in the car was not working and the seat was less than comfortable. I've been fortunate with my experience renting from Hertz at the Denver airport. The shuttles have consistently been pretty full but it's a fairly quick ride between the rental cars and the terminals. The drivers I've encountered haven't been overly friendly, but they have been helpful with bags so I'll take that for sure. I've not had to deal with anyone at the counter so can't comment on that portion of their customer service. I will say that the Hertz app needs a lot of work, but I can't hold this location accountable for that. read more

If I could do negative stars I would. Absolutely shady practices. I rented a car for 5 hrs in Denver. 5 months later they sent me a bill for damage. They send me a fake service order. I called the number fake number. Tried to find the person fake person. They sent me to collections for non payment because it was over 90 days. I had the bill for 2 weeks. I have travel insurance so they paid the claim. However I ran a carfax on the car. The car was never fixed or even taken in for an estimate. They would not tell me if the car was rented out again that same day. Very very dishonest business. NEVER USE THEM! Use Sixt. They have been wonderful so much better service and the cars are nicer. WHAT A RIPOFF! Steer clear from Hertz unless you want to be robbed. I initially rented the vehicle online and waited to pay at the store. The online price had come out to just under $700 for a week. Once I got to the physical location I was told it was going to be $1400 with a $200 hold on my credit card or $500 on a debit card. $1400 for a vehicle for 6 days is insanity! Im renting it not putting a down payment to buy it. When I made the reservation online it also said that if I rented for longer than 5 days I would get 2 days free and that was not applied either. Then to make it worse it didn't go through on their end but still charged my account. Rude, lazy, and zero costumer service. Driver was mad he had to help with bags after he asked. Couldn't lift them and was just upset that he had to work. Never experienced anything like this at any car rental place. Tried to tip to be nice even though he didn't do anything. However, they really need to work on not overcrowding the Hertz shuttle bus that transports customers to and from the airport. I was very disappointed by my recent experience with my rental in Denver. Their sales team tries to sell based on fear and try to get you sign up for all the items, even though you didn't ask for it purposely. They are good at putting the fear out to people and trying to make more money from you. Beware of the gas policy and the way that it is explained at this location. I was told when I first got the car that I could choose to not return the car with a full tank. I assumed that this meant that they would charge me a reasonable rate to refill the gas tank. When I returned the car and got my bill, they charged me $10.99 per gallon. I rented a car from Hertz for a family trip to Vail and was upsold to a large SUV, which I agreed to. The problem was the vehicle itself--a Ford Explorer with over 80,000 miles and completely worn-out brakes. The car was unsafe, and I barely made it to Vail before realizing something was seriously wrong. When I called Hertz Roadside Assistance, I was told my only options were to get towed and travel two hours back to Denver for a replacement or drive over 100 miles to a mechanic. Either way, I was expected to lose hours of my family vacation because Hertz provided a dangerous vehicle. Any competent rental company would have delivered a replacement. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - Hertz is a scam! We had an awful experience with Hertz and I can say with full confidence, I will never be using them ever again. We reserved a full-size SUV with 4WD or AWD well in advance because we were heading to the snow and needed a reliable vehicle. To ensure everything would go smoothly, we called one month before our trip to confirm our reservation. We even called two days prior to double-check, and everything was supposedly "good to go." When we arrived to pick up our car, they didn't have the vehicle we reserved. Apparently with Hertz, you can "reserve" a car, but that doesn't actually mean anything at all! Instead of the 4WD/AWD SUV we booked, they told us they only had a 2WD vehicle available, which was completely useless for our trip. When we asked for the correct type of vehicle, they told us they could "upgrade" us, but at a ridiculous extra charge of $500 per day. Our original total for four days was supposed to be under $500, but now they were saying it would cost $2,500 for the same time frame! Their excuse? They jack up prices in the winter due to "high demand". Well, that's exactly why we booked ahead of time - to avoid this! The most infuriating part wasn't just the reservation issue but the complete lack of customer service. We spoke with multiple employees, including the manager, and not one of them was helpful. The manager specifically, was absolutely awful! I have never encountered an experience where a manager just has nothing to say and puts you fully in the wrong. All the workers just shrugged their shoulders and gave us blank stares like they couldn't care less. No apologies, no effort to make things right, nothing. It was clear they didn't care about their customers - just about squeezing as much money as possible out of people in a tough situation. We were here for over an hour trying to get our issues resolved and got nowhere. While Hertz was offering zero solutions, we were able to book a last-minute car through Turo and got exactly the car we needed for only $600 total. The process was quick, seamless and stress-free. Terrible experience at this Hertz location. We had a reservation confirmed online for a specific vehicle and price, but when we arrived, the staff attempted a blatant bait-and-switch -- trying to push a different car at a much higher rate. When we refused to go along with it, they became rude and uncooperative. It was clear they were intentionally dragging out the process as a form of pressure, making us wait for hours just to receive the vehicle we had originally reserved. This was absolutely the smoothest transaction I've had with a rental car company. Let's start from the beginning...I booked my car about 2 weeks in advance and INCLUDED MY FLIGHT INFORMATION,, a few days before my trip im getting emails and texts reminding me to send verification for pre check where I would skip the line. I did it the day before, very simple process and my profile updated immediately. Day of, our flight was delayed by two hours, I was nervous that my car would be given away but I arrived 2.5 hrs after my expected pick up time and I found my name on the board, got in a car and checked in at the gate and drove off (the whole process too 5 min and that including loading my luggage). We picked this place again bc of the option to check in online & just walk up to car. Well... technology has NOT improved their service. We & so many others had to wait 2 hours despite reservations, given similar excuses as years before. We were not able to check in online at all, told "we're tight on vehicles". After waiting for a while, I asked a staff about the hold-up, if they were short on vehicles, he said "I don't know, you have to talk to a manager". Manager came out & was extremely defensive, stating "we're working as fast as we can", "you're not the only one" (duh), "if you don't know...there's snow, you will find out", "customers returned the cars late". Some families with small children had to entertain their littles, walking in & out the buildings, with absolutely no estimated wait time - "I can't tell you". One guy walked up to staff wanting to cancel his reservation after 2-hour wait, but they insisted that a car would be available soon & did not process his refund process. I made a reservation on the app a week prior to pick up. Once I landed at Denver, the Hertz sign was easy to spot and a bus was ready to transport a few customers to their location. Inside the building, all the customers were helped right away. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I paid for a compact vehicle and that's what i was give. A 2025 Nissan with 11k miles. I had zero issues with the vehicle. Upon return, I followed the "drop off" signs. An employee was there to assist. He checked me out and took video of the vehicle. I also recommended everyone to take a video after your drop off. I had an invoice in my email before even reaching the airport. I've rented cars by Denver International plenty of times. Most of the time, the lines took forever or there would be car issues. This is my first time renting from Hertz in Denver and it's been my best car rental experience. I reserved a car ahead of time via Expedia so the pick-up was super quick. They gave a brand new Kia Sportage. The only snafu was the license plate did not match what was in their system, but they easily fixed that. Customer service was great. Some deal layered in a network of websites led me here, but I wasn't thrilled with the experience. Picking up a car required a shuttle ride from the airport and a long wait in line (supposedly once you're in the club you only have to wait in line the first time to show your ID). The procedure led me to just pick a car from a small row, and I was fortunate I got in before a few other people as I wasn't thrilled with the option. The car ultimately worked out pretty well. However, the return process was a nightmare. I dropped my car off pretty quickly, but the airport shuttle, with a timer saying it came every seven minutes, took twice that at what one would think would be a close to peak hour. My packed bus combined with several other delays to cause me to narrowly miss a flight, so this was an impactful failure in service, for which I doubt they will offer me any recompense. My conclusion is that the Denver airport requires a lot of extra time due to the hassles, but I'd like to think that other rental companies might have one or two hassles less. read more

Man, Hertz used to be a good rental company. Not any more. First of all the cost of the car I reserved was $60 higher than I was quoted. I brought this up when picking up the car and was told that "taxes changed", I find that highly unlikely as I made the reservation 3 weeks prior. Secondly, the car was filthy. The inside of the windshield had sticky residue all over it from something that obscured my vision. Third, staff was dismissive of all of my concerns. Staff in the Gold Plus kiosk refused to talk to me (even though I'm a member) and after a long wait at the regular counter I was consistently ignored. Despite me staying in a good mood and not complaining! Fourth, the car I reserved wasn't ready. But that's every car rental place I've ever used. Pick up my vehicle without any issues until I was driving out of their lot. The employee at the booth said the car I had was flagged but cleared it in their system so I can drive away with it. Fast forward to after driving it for a day. While I was on the freeway. The car stalls and the check transmission light turns on as well as all the other "something" is wrong with the vehicle lights. I drove it back to my hotel, called road side assistance and they sent a tow truck out to tow it. They said they would have to drive me all the way back to the airport to pick up another vehicle, even though they had a Hertz two blocks down the street from my hotel. Instead they offered a free Lyft ride to the airport the next day. The next day I finally get to the airport. They did not have my car ready as they promised. Mary Lou was kind enough to upgrade me to select a presidential vehicle. It's pretty much the same old vehicles. I picked up the keys to the closest car since I was now in a hurry with all of Hertz delays. When I hand Mary Lou the keys to switch out the vehicles in their system. She proceeds to tell me that the vehicle has a hold as in something was wrong with it. I was furious and asked why would they place vehicles on the lot of they are obvious broken, have mechanical problems or have holds on them. She just blamed it on the guys on the floor. Be prepared to be frisked upon rental car return. New policy is to have two Hertz people search for damage as you return the vehicle. If you rent there first document and photograph any scratches on wheels, exterior, or damage to the car before you leave the lot. Have the exit person walk and inspect the car with you. Make sure all little damage is carefully documented before you leave with your rental. People are getting big extra bills. Also expect to wait a long time for a bus. read more

Fraudsters! Renter beware. I rented an SUV for the weekend for a family gathering. The staff was extremely helpful even though we did not arrive until 1 am. The first Cadillac SUV we received had a cracked windshield and we had to get another. The second Cadillac SUV had a cracked windshield and we received a third vehicle. This time it was a Jeep Wagoneer. I documented the vehicles existing damage on video prior to leaving the lot. The damage consisted of large chips in the windshield and a partially broken plastic trim piece at the bottom of the front bumper. I understand this is Colorado, gravel gets put on the road for ice, and they have hailstorms. Mind you, the tires were worn to the point that in a snowstorm they would have become inoperable. We returned the SUV three days later and the person checking us in immediately started climbing on the front passenger side door jam examined the windshield and the roof. I thought it was odd because no other check-in staff were doing this even though there was an enormous line of vehicles being checked in and staff checking the vehicles in. Our check-in guy started circled two pits in the windshield. As I looked at the vehicles around us, no other vehicles with pitted windshields had circles and nearly every vehicle he pits. Our check-in guy said we could not check out without paying extra because we had pits in our windshield and we had to pay for the damage. I showed him the video I took of the SUV before I left the lot that clearly showed the existing pits in the windshield. He said I could sign something that disputed the claim and the video was not proof that the damage already existed. He said by me signing it was not an admission that I was responsible. After a heated exchange I told him I was absolutely not signing anything and to get his manager over immediately. The manager responded, viewed the video, admitted the video showed the pre-existing damage, and said I was not responsible. I demanded a printed final receipt and we left. The moral of the story, video your vehicle and document all damage before leaving the Hertz lot. I have never dealt with this at any other car rental dealership before and I'm a platinum member with Enterprise (they just didn't have the vehicle I was looking to use for the weekend). If I didn't have proof of the damage, they would've charge me extra, put the vehicle back in fleet for use without correcting the damage, and probably done it again to the next unsuspecting customer, as evidenced by the first two vehicles I received and refused because of their damaged windshields.
