I had an absolutely frustrating experience with Hertz at Tri Cities Airport and would strongly caution anyone against renting from this location. I returned my rental car at Spokane, which was clearly noted on my reservation. Simple enough -- except getting a receipt turned into a nearly all-day ordeal. The Tri Cities desk told me the car hadn't been checked in yet and couldn't issue a receipt. Spokane confirmed it was checked in at 10:15 AM -- right when I dropped it off. So I called Tri Cities back. That's when things got really bad. I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes. I hung up and called back. Eight times. No answer. I left two voicemails. As of writing this review, no one has called me back. All I needed was a receipt to submit for a business expense reimbursement -- something that should take two minutes. To make matters worse, I contacted Hertz Corporate hoping they could step in. I was told that because this is an independently operated Hertz location, Corporate could not assist me. So there is essentially zero accountability and zero recourse for customers. This experience is completely unacceptable. Their reviews online are fully consistent with the treatment I received -- I wish I had read them before booking. I will never rent from Hertz again, at any location. This Hertz, at the time of my writing, has 25 reviews; 24 of these reviews are given 1 star, with the 25th review being 5 stars. I scratch my head, but then realize that more people than not will take the time to make a bad review of a this type of business if they feel they've been screwed. The last review is almost 2 years old as well. I've been renting vehicles through Hertz for many years, but I have always booked and paid ahead for my rentals via AAA membership. Maybe this has something to do with never having a crappy experience, except maybe a longer wait time once in awhile. I have rented vehicles in Temecula, CA; Buffalo, NY; Knoxville, TN; and Kona, HI. I have always received what I ordered, with a couple times getting a free vehicle upgrade. I have never had any monetary add-ons needing contested. The vehicles have always been clean, inside and out. This Hertz was no exception. The pick up and drop off went without a hitch. If anything "negative" was had it was the young lady I interacted with at the time of pick up didn't have much of a personality, but I wasn't there to make friends anyhow. Wow, I just noticed that everyone is talking about the price hikes that this rental company does. Wish I would have seen this before I used this company. Dealing with the same issue now, pending on the manager to get back to me but looks like this is a common thing. Total pending to pay at rental counter 97.58, charged 136.34(extra 38.76) for "upgrade" that I never received since I was driving a small Hyundai(the lowest priced car). I thought something was suspicious when they lady tried to force me to get an upgrade because they had no "vehicle for my price" available but yet I got a Hyundai. I will be sure to update this once it has been resolved. I know its only $38.76 but not sure how many people this has been done too(seems like a lot). Day 2 No call received from Manager Sophia, let her know that I spoke with Stephanie yesterday and that I was expecting a call yesterday or today. She replied with "I have been cleaning cars all day what can I help you with"(soooooorrrrry lady). As I was explaining the situation again she cut me off, and said what do you want 30 dollars(as if that was nothing). I replied with a yes please. She advised she was going to process the discrepancy and that it will be done within in the next couple days(lets see if this is true). Fantastic experience. The employee working was friendly and helpful. There was some confusion created by the third party (Orbitz) website I had booked through, and he was really knowedgeable and able to sort it out. The car was very nice and got exremely good mileage for a minivan-ish vehicle. I'm often really hard on businesses here, but this was a truly excellent experience. read more

Got stranded at the Pasco airport at 11:30PM because you said you would make an "exception" and have someone stay late past closing to rent me a car (which I truly appreciated at the time). Not only was this confirmed by your corporate office, but also the local branch. You couldn't have just told me from the beginning that no one would be around so I could have planned accordingly? I was planning on driving out that night to the nice B&B that I booked, but ended up paying for two rooms (one of which I didn't stay at, obviously) and staying at a dumpy motel nearby. Worst of all, no apologies from your staff or attempts to recover your horrible service mishaps at all. I understand that things can go wrong, but no attempt at all? Really? Hertz? I am a Hertz #1 Club Gold Member and rent a Hertz car every week somewhere around the globe. I only tell you this because I want you to know that I have tons of experience with the Hertz brand. I am normally quite impressed with the customer service and efficiency. HOWEVER, this location has provided me with the worst customer service that I have had anywhere, with any consumer purchase, in years. I was treated so horribly that I was almost in tears at the counter. I will do EVERYTHING in my power to NEVER rent here again and I suggest nobody else does either. This is a franchise location and the owner of this store should be very concerned about the employees that they put behind the counter. There is no reason why a franchise location should treat a customer any differently than corporate. They should be more concerned with customer retention. Overall, this experience goes down on the record as the worst ever Hertz. Even after the disaster of an employee at the counter, the car is filthy, has the maintenance required light on and is so overpriced that I am considering reporting price gouging. Worst experience renting a car. First car didn't have rear left tail lights. It was easy to get a different car. Unfortunately it had not been washed and was filthy. The low air indicators were on and I was told it was due to cold weather. I gave it 20 minutes on the road called Hertz let them know the indicators were still on. They said not to worry they had added air that morning. I took the car directly to Les Schwab and all four tires needed air. So much for customer service or safety for customers from Hertz. Returned the car and it took over 45 minutes to return the car(Avis in the next stall had four customers come and go while I tried to return a car). Tried to do the Hertz survey and the numbers needed to take the survey were not valid. Cannot recommend them on any level-run do not walk to another car rental company. read more

I too would like to give this location negative stars! I rented a car for $55 for the weekend, the bill came to over $145 after they added fees. I reserved a car there was as i was talking with the agent at the desk, I asked several questions about my rental, including what gas option I was getting. He told me one thing and signed me up for another. The net change in the price to me was, and profit in their pocket, was roughly $49. After talking with the same person after I got home and saw what they had done, he turned a deaf ear to me and said, "Well you signed it...you should have read it first!" Yes, to his point I should have, but I had just talked with him about it, and I thought he would be an honest employee and not try and cheat his customers...boy was I wrong. Now having returned home and not able to fill the car up my self, the manager of the location did offer me the ability to switch from the full tank I purchased to the "Have them fill it up" option for a mean $9+ per gallon. So I'll probably end up saving about $20 from that "help". Bottom line a $55 rental, plus originally $61 for gas and another $29 in other fees and taxes. Now saving maybe $20, a $55 car rental is only costing me around $125. I read something once about truth-in-advertising...NOT AT HERTZ. If I could give a quarter star, I would. They provide a vehicle that runs out of windshield washer fluid. Then on top of that, they charged me when the insurance company was covering the cost of the rental. This is a franchise Hertz location, so corporate Hertz, isn't quite connected to them. The staff here is shady and you have to call several times throughout the day, if you're lucky to get ahold of someone. I finally got ahold of a person, Christine. She said she would call me back, but never did. I got ahold of her the next day and she said she called State farm (they placed reservation as my own vehicle is in the shop), and that they were attempting to get ahold of me, which was a blatant lie, because I had been talking to them regularly and had spoken to them the day before and this morning. This place is super shady with very poor customer service... I recently had the worst customer service experience of my life (even worse than the time I tried to cancel my Time Warner Cable service back in 2011), all thanks to the Hertz in Pasco, Washington. The detailed timeline of events is below, but for anyone just looking for a summary here it is: I was recently overcharged $84.75, lied to, and hung up on by associates from the Pasco, Washington Hertz. I eventually received a refund, but not before multiple phone calls and significant frustration. Below is a timeline of events: 5/22/15 at 11:09am - I picked up the rental car in Pasco, WA. 5/24/15 at 4:35pm - I returned the vehicle to the 8th Ave. Seattle location, within the 48-72 hour window specified under the 3 day car rental terms. 6/3/15 - I checked my credit card statement and learned that Hertz had charged me $272.28, which is $84.75 more than the contract price of $187.53. 6/4/15 - I talked to Employee C (will refrain from mentioning entire name) from the Pasco location to inquire about my overcharge. She said since her records stated that since I returned the car under 48 hours (this was incorrect, I returned the car within the agreed upon 48-72 hours), that I had to pay a two day rental rate of $89.99/day, a total bill that was much higher than the contract rate of 3 days at $36.99/day. Never minding the fact that it seems strange a customer could be charged more for bringing a car back early, I provided Employee C with a picture I took at the time I dropped off the car, showing a time and location stamp of when and where the picture was taken, proving that I returned the car on time, as opposed to early. Employee C said that she would need the 8th street Seattle location to verify the time at which the car was returned. I began a three way call with Employee C and Employee M from the 8th Ave. Seattle location. While my contract with Hertz did not charge by the mile, Employee C and Employee M attempted to agree on the car's mileage at the time of return, but reported two different odometer readings to each other. I believe this should have been an obvious sign that there were issues with Hertz data accuracy, perhaps the same data that inaccurately reported that I returned the car early. Employee C and Employee M told me they would research the situation and get back to me. 6/9/15 - After not hearing back, I called Employee C to check on the overage charge. She said that she would submit a form for a credit, however the reimbursement could take 30-60 days. I told her that I do not want to wait that long for the reimbursement, and she instructed me to follow up with her in a couple days. 6/11/15 - I called Employee C back in regards to the overcharge. She said that I would need additional proof that I returned the car at 4:35pm on 5/24. I told her that since the 8th Ave. location was closed at 4:35pm when I dropped the car off, I had to leave the keys in a drop box and therefore was not able to obtain a receipt upon checkout. She doubted that I dropped the car off after hours because she said the location is open 24/7, a false statement given the hertz website specifies the office closes at 2pm on Sundays. I then asked to speak to a manager. At this point I began speaking with Employee T. After explaining the situation to her, she agreed to provide me a refund. I told her that I had a negative customer experience, and that customer satisfaction is important to help protect a company's brand via social media, etc. She told me that I was threatening to post via social media (I was not), that I would receive an e-mail with the refund details, and then hung up on me. read more

It would be better to take a taxi away from the airport and find another rental company than rent from Hertz at the airport. They have very poor customer service and they do not inspect their cars unless it is convenient for them. They claimed i smoked in their car and it was supposedly keyed in my possession, so the rental ultimately cost me and my insurance company more than $2000. I don't smoke and i never had but when this was explained to them they didn't care and wouldn't listen to anything. They must be really hurting for business if they are treating their customers like this in such a small area. This location is owned by an independent person/company so it doesn't do any good to call hertz customer service and they will push you away just like this local branch did. I wrote several complaints to Hertz and all i heard back was that they were forwarded to the local manager. The local manager reflects the professionalism of the employees and has no customer service skills whatsoever. I could go on and on about this because it is the classic example of a large company taking advantage of the little guy. In a nut shell do not rent from Hertz in Pasco. I rented a car in another State. I purchased insurance and had an incident. So I went to Hertz in Tri Cities airport. I was told there would be no difference in my rental agreement. When I returned the car in redlands California, it took an hour due to confusion with rental agreement. End result is Hertz in Tri Cities over charged me 168.00. They have yet to resolve this with me. It has been 2 months. I get no help from anyone because this particular Hertz is a franchise! I have called everyone I can with NO help. I rented a compact car for one day. I brought in hours late. I was charged for 2 full days at $89 per day (for a compact) unbelievable. I paid for the gas fill up. The total was $270 for a compact rental for 1 day and 4 hours, and that did not include their insurance!! What a rip off. Called to see if they would adjust based on pure unreasonableness. I rented a car through Priceline. My flight was bumped, then delayed. I called and left 3 messages. When I fibally arrived, I was told the car I paid for was given away and I would have to pay walk up prices for an upgrade. I informed her this is an illegal bait and switch. She would not help me. Said she could only check the messages if I gave her the exact time I called. My phone was dead and she would not let me plug in so I could get that info. Stated "we can't answer the phones". What I see from the reviews, this bait and switch is common practice for them. I thought Hertz 2as a reliable brand. I now am out an additional 182.00 and a whole lot smarter. Beware, this is a franchise, not a Hertz corporation rental location. Hertz normally gives a one hour grace period on returns, not these guys, at least not unless you put up a fight. I returned my one day rental just a few minutes late and noticed that my bill was almost double what it should be. Guy at the counter tried to make it sound like he was doing me a favor when he adjusted the bill back to what it should be! Oh, and since this is a franchise, they don't participate in the Hertz Gold Rewards program so forget about the triple miles promotion when you rent here. WARNING: Do not rent a car from Hertz Rent a Car at the Pasco Airport EVER. I recently rented a car from them. They DID NOT have ME fill out a Vehicle Inspection Report but THEY did fill one out. Later I found out that they wrote on that document that the car was in perfect condition when I picked it up. When I returned the car I noticed there was a dent/scratch in the rear bumper. I pointed this out to the kid that I returned it to. He said "no problem, we'll take care of it". They took care of it alright. They charged me $1,079.30 for the repairs AND loss of use. After talking to my insurance, my credit card, PurCo (Hertz Collection Agency), I realized that I couldn't win. My deductible is $500 so with increased rates, I would end up paying more if I filed a claim. When I called Hertz at the Pasco Airport to discuss these issues, the Manager lady told me that I was disrespecting her and shortly thereafter hung up on me. I have called and asked to talk to the manager later on including today and I'm still waiting for her call back. Waiting.........Yeah, I'll hold my breath. thanks to the Hertz in Pasco Washington, i now have experienced the worst customer service ever. the absolute indifference to customer needs or satisfaction is clearly what this Hertz is striving for - and have achieved. for the past few years i have been traveling 2-3 times per month, and when possible i rent from Hertz - but if go to Pasco again, i will walk to my appointment before renting from the Pasco Hertz. reservations thru the Hertz website are a joke... twice in a row the reserved cars are not available, im told others 'without' reservations rented them all - seriously? what is the point of a reservation? oh! i know, so you can offer me a smaller car at the same price, and say "will this work for you?" if it would have worked for me, i would have rented it ! i select a vehicle based on the number of passengers and luggage. because of Pasco Hertz we had to use two different vehicles to get everyone around. any other Hertz i've rented from would apologize and offer me a free upgrade - Not Hertz Pasco! even tho as i walked to the back-40 where the my offering resided, i passed numerous other cars in Hertz parking spaces - OH! im sorry, those must have been for customers with RESERVATIONS! OH WAIT! THAT WAS ME!. when i returned the car, no comment from the employee, just took the keys and asked the milage - again, i asked why they didnt honor the reservation, i got " I Told You! Other walk-up customers came in!" i told him "well, you certainly lost My business in the future" to which i received a "SO?" wow! i was so shocked by this level of customer service i simply shook my head and walked away. lesson learned. hopefully future potential customers will learn from my experience. read more
