I recently returned a rental from HERZT and feel compelled to share this warning. I rented an EV and used Tesla Superchargers during the rental. Every single charging session was clearly documented with time, location, cost, and a photo as proof. Most of the time, I charged the vehicle at home. The total charging cost was about $151, but HERZT charged me more than double that amount without any explanation. Their bill did not match my records at all. I called their customer service several times to dispute the charges, but no solution was offered. The attitude I received was essentially: "If you want to rent from us, you have to accept our terms." No explanation, no itemized breakdown, no accountability. I ended up returning the car today. Seven years ago, I had already noticed that HERZT tends to overcharge and sneak in fees. I gave them another chance, and unfortunately, nothing has changed. This time, I made sure to clean the vehicle carefully and took photo evidence before returning it. At this point, I would not be surprised if they still try to add a cleaning fee out of nowhere. My advice is simple. Go to Enterprise instead. I have rented from Enterprise for over 15 years and never had a single unpleasant experience. Their pricing is transparent, and their service is reliable. I underestimated just how unreliable HERZT still is. I will never rent from them again. If Enterprise is not available, I would rather ride a bicycle than deal with HERZT again. Seriously. read more

I reserved a car for pick up at 6:00 and paid in full before pick up and they had locked up early and were leaving even though I arrived on time. When I let "Nick" know we were there to pick up and that we had already paid, he said he was off the clock and it wasn't his problem. When we attempted to further discuss with him, he ignored us and got in his car. It was unbelievable. And then he encouraged that we complain to his manager and district manger because they wouldn't care. I can't believe Hertz would allow such a rude individual to represent their company. I was given a Hertz rental when my car dealership had to keep my car for a couple of weeks for warranty repairs. The folks at the customer service area were pleasant enough but worked super slow, so I wound up waiting close to an hour to pick up the car. I was warned that dogs were not allowed in the car and if I did carry dogs in the car, there would be a $400 cleaning charge. During the nearly 2 weeks I had the car, there were no dogs in it, and I didn't even have a human passenger in it. Yet, when I returned the car, I was told there was dog hair in the driver seat foot well and they were going to charge me $400. They show me a photo of the footwell and it was not perfectly clean (that's where my SHOES go - anyone have perfectly clean shoe bottoms?). They even checked with the manager who claimed I would need to get the car cleaned or pay $400. Now I've had my car meticulously detailed and paid maybe $75, and this was nowhere close to that. None of them seemed to get with the logic that, if I had transported dogs in the car, it wouldn't be in the driver seat foot well. So I drove a mile to an auto car wash place, purchased a lint roller for $3, and basically lint rolled the mat, brought it back, and all was good. I mean, I could buy a complete set of new mats for this car and not spend anywhere close to $400. This place is nothing more than a giant cash grab. I've rented with Enterprise many times and have had no such problems, so I recommend driving very fast past Hertz and using Enterprise instead. read more

I had a great first experience renting a car for Uber through Hertz thanks to Christian. Though the wait time was longer than I expected, Christian made up for the trouble with his exceptional customer service; he explained the rental process in detail, mentioned additional services without seeming pushy, and answered all my questions in a professional but personable manner. On Tuesday I picked up a car to rent because Land Rover had set up this rental, as my own car was being serviced. Raquel helped me get an Infiniti SUV because she said the Jaguar she had on the lot was dirty. She NEVER went around the car with me to show me damages. She only told me the car DID NOT have a full tank of gas. She gave me a car that had a chip in the windshield and didn't even tell me. Then when I got back on Friday to Land Rover and dropped my rental, Sam called me from Hertz to tell me there was a gash in the back passenger tire and they were holding me responsible to pay. They charged me $135.00 to fix the tire and a would not recognize any of their employees disregard for the consumer. Very unprofessional experience. Steer clear! read more

Everything worked out just fine for me. My agent was a young lady named Kensi who picked me up at the auto body shop, processed me at the Hertz office, and I was off. This was an insurance claim so I was in no hurry. When it came time to return my rental I was lucky enough to have Kensi as the closing agent who also returned me to the body shop. I did return my vehicle with proper fuel and did run it through a car wash so no issues with cleaning fee. I had a reservation today for October 30th at 3 PM. I called the Hertz rental location to let them know I was running late. So I called hertz rental and I spoke to a Christian supposedly a manager and when I was talking he would talk over me and I told him let me finish talking and then you can have a chance to talk, he was talking over me so I got a little aggressive to tell him don't talk over me when I'm talking at what I am trying to achieve , so I had to let him know that I might be running late a few minutes and he said that he couldn't promise a car here after one minute after 3 o'clock . I did rent a vehicle from Hertz priorly and they did hold the car for me a few minutes after my time of my reservation because I was running a little late. and so I had to let him know that I have to take an Uber to go get a rental so sadly I had to cancel everything as far as even getting the Uber ride there . Christian was not helpful. He doesn't care for the customers , he claims to be a manager, I ask him let me speak to your higher manager. He said there is no one to speak to so christian wasn't helpful. Christian is very rude and very unprofessional of customer service . Please replace him and place him somewhere in the back where he doesn't have to interact with customers on the phone. He might be much better washing cars or cleaning them, but not attending people on the phone helping people over the counter. I told him I was going to "Yelp" him and he said to go ahead I don't care "Really" is that how you think ? As for today, I just lost my rental reservation and I had to cancel my Uber ride. This review is for their equally bad sister business next door: Hertz Uber. Finally had it with them. I rented from Avis 2 miles from my house. Brand new 2022 Kia Soul. Combined my USAA discount with prepay discount. Total $1126/mo. Much better than $1250/mo for some POS older model and 3hr wait to speak to a condescending agent. And good luck changing cars at the Hertz location if there is a problem. Nasty people at Uber Hertz. As for Avis they have online checkin. The guy was super nice. Just make sure you get the rental company's insurance card from the glove compartment and that it's current. That is the one Uber takes for proof of insurance. I am starting my 2nd mo with them tomorrow. HE ANSWERED THE PHONE! WOW!!!! He said I can keep the Kia but just gotta get it an oil change across the street at Pep Boys. No problem. Caveat. I tried getting this Avis rental on Lyft. But they weren't letting it happen. But oh well I wasn't driving for them anyway. Good luck. Fire Hertz Uber if you can combine discounts elsewhere. I was very impressed. The staff was very personable. I received a vehicle above my expectations in almost new condition. Even though they were extremely busy it took less time than expected and there were no hidden surprises. I wish I could have read the bad reviews prior to reserving the rental from here. The person who assisted me looked overwhelmed, tired and just ready to go home. The entire experience was rushed. The Tesla that was rented required a 4-digit pin before taking off (driving) which the assistant failed to enter before going back inside the building. I had to go in and call him to assist me. The pin was entered and I was told it was a 1time thing and it wouldn't require it again. I drove home to get ready for take off and when I tried to turn it back on and take off there it was (4-digit pin) was needed to drive the car. I called customer service was hung-up on 3times, the pin couldn't be provided, car couldn't be replaced because I kept getting hung up on and the rental place didn't open until 9am the next day Saturday. Terrible experience!! Do not rent from here! Save yourself a headache! read more

I was helped right away by the friendly employees. After signing paperwork, I was brought out to a 2020 nissan murano. Later that day, I received a call from the repair shop stating my car might take 1 month to fix. The insurance company would only cover 20 days of rental. I returned to hertz to see if I could get into a cheaper vehicle. Instead, they were kind enough to adjust the rate so that insurance would cover close to all the days I would need a rental. This is exceptional service on their part. After close to 1 month, I returned the suv with no problems. I would highly recommend this location for any car rental need. read more

Terrible service. Employees were extremely rude. I reserved and paid for a car online and when I get there they said they don't have any cars except one car that cost double. Why would you let customers reserve and pay for a car you don't have and let them get all the way to the office to say you don't have any cars except one that's double the price. I called the reservation number and they told me the location didn't even cancel the reservation after all of that and I was already showing as a no show. Had to rent a car from here a few days ago, and did not have the best service. The lady who helped us (a large hispanic women) had the worst service ever. The whole time she had attitude. Did not smile once. And was just rude at giving us our service. All she did was have smart remarks to things we'd say, and while putting down my information said " would you like to go there instead i can stop what im doing " just because we mentioned having to get a rental a few days ago prior to having to get another. Awful customer service by manager Nick at this location. I set up a reservation the night before on the phone with Hertz hotline and was informed I would be picked up, I just needed to call 30 minutes ahead of time to ensure a ride. I purposely picked this location being that it was only 4.5 miles away from where I needed to be retrieved from. I went ahead and called at 8:20 AM (my reservation was set for 9AM) and the manager Nick answered telling me that they wouldn't pick me up because they only do so within a 3 mile radius. I was never informed of this information by the Hertz employee who set up my reservation the night prior. And when I searched online, Hertz Local Edition Free Pick Up & Return Service stated you must be within 15 minutes of any HLE location. I was less than a 10 minute drive. Nick continued to ARGUE with me on the phone that they wouldn't pick me up because i was too far away. And later shared they were short staffed. Nick could have leaf with that and perhaps had a much more appropriate response, rather than arguing with a customer on the phone about picking them up. I am disappointed and quite frankly appalled with the lack of concern or care towards a paying customer. Nick was inconsiderate and not personable at all, I had to arrange for my own ride and resulting in me being not one hour late to work, but 2 hours. Raquel helped me in person and was more accommodating and overall personable. So thank you Raquel for treating me like a decent human being. read more

On 9-15-22 We were referred to Hertz from Moss Bros while our van was being worked on. It was going to be a discounted rate of $35 a day. We had the car rental (Chevrolet Spark) Extremely small car for 1 week. We were told on 9-15-22 it was going to be a charge of $461.82... but when we return the car, we would be getting our $200.00 deposit back. We returned the car on 9-22-22. The gas tank was full and there were no problems or damages. I saw the charge on my bank account of $461.82 on 9-25-22 and waited for the deposit.... I waited for more than a week on 9-30-22 I went in and spoke to the manager Rachel. She told me that from the time the car is returned to the time the deposit is returned is up to my banking institute. that the money is in limbo during this period. I thought that that sounded wrong, so I went into my bank and asked. There had not been a 2nd transaction of any money returned and that it is completely false for Hertz to say the money is up to the bank to return. I have been with Wescom Credit Union for more than 20 years and they are accurate and have the best client services. They told me that Hertz has not done any deposit, transaction whatsoever, but I should wait till Monday to check again. On 10-3-22 I called and spoke to the manager Rachel I was told they did not have me in their system, they did not have an invoice number or contract number. I told them that when I returned the car the employee at the desk did not return my paperwork. the manager then told me I must have spent the money (the deposit) in my account "Sarcasm and rudeness is the least of this".... this company did not treat me and my husband fair .... no deposit was given back ... I let Moss Bros know that they should not refer anyone for Hertz on Indian in Riverside. I also reported them to the BBB ... Absolutely bad business!!!!!!! I had a 11am car rental appointment, we arrived at 10:50 and drove away at 12:40. I had to wait almost two hours to get keys and drive away!? That's NOT customer value Hertz! Had to do the same when returning.... I own your stock and I want to love you... but it just "Hertz". I would choose an airport location for drop off and pickup. No cars available, and they close in 1/2 an hour, and you are simply out of luck. Oh, they have an overpriced upgrade for double the price (since when is a Taurus a premium vehicle?). When asked about why bother making a reservation, their response is "that's the corporate web site". Huh? It had trash, it was filthy and there was GUM stuck on the car! And some other food source I'm not sure of was stuck in one of the pockets. I reserved a car, same day at 9a for a 5:30p pickup... got a confirmation code and even called to see what model id actually be getting and to add gps...come in at 5:30 to pick up my car and am told there are none...wtf?
