If I could I would give this car rental location a ZERO. In preparation and coordination of moving our child from S.F. to home I pre reserved a pickup truck at the Shingle Springs location 2 days before. I was told they would need to bring one to the lot so I could not have it at my requested 9 am but it would be available at 10. Upon arriving to pick it up at 10, it was not there and they did not even know if one would be available that day!!! Thanks a lot Hertz. Way to mess up a carefully planned move! And to top it off. The customer service person I spoke with for my refund acted like they were doing me a favor by not charging me a cancellation fee!! What a joke. I told her I should charge them the $50 cancellation fee because the failed to provide me with a vehicle. read more

I was skeptical to use the rental location but I was pleasantly surprised. I rented a mini van two days prior to my leave date. The next day with concerns there might be issues I called to make sure they had received my reservation. They had, and told me they would be getting a van brought up to the location sometime that day and then let me know when it would be ready. They did call and said I was all set. That afternoon I went to pick up my rental. It was quick and the gentleman behind the counter was polite and prompt. We checked the van out in a matter of mins and I was on my way. Upon drop off I was there a total of 5 mins to sign a few forms and for him to check them mileage. Overall a good experience and I would use them again. Getting in touch with this edition is like pulling teeth. Good luck calling and getting through. Apparently, even 67 years after the answering machine was invented (According to Wikipedia), they still haven't figured out that they should have one. No answering machine, no voicemail, no second line (so if you call, it's just the busy tone). Essentially, unless they "feel like" answering the phone, you're not getting through. I work at a place where clients have to leave without returning the car to them, and we have a pickup arrangement. After they don't pickup the car, knowing it's here, they STILL CHARGE BY THE DAY! I had one client be charged an extra $400, just because the local edition wouldn't pick it up! It was refunded, however It took a month an a half to put it back on their card. After I've called the corporate office, being as I couldn't get a hold of them for a full day and a half (calling every 20-30 minutes), I was told the local edition didn't exist by a condescending person in "billing" which is where i was eventually transferred to. After asking how they don't have a voicemail and why the phone just rings and rings, I told her that my clients paying more for their lack of effectiveness was ridiculous, inefficient and that my clients WON'T BE PAYING for company induced late-fees, I was promptly hung up on. Very professional... Hertz will never be a company I reserve a car through nor one that I suggest. After dealing with them, I will never willingly do so again and will be advising my clients to strictly use the Placerville Enterprise as every experience with them is professional and effective. And when I can't get a hold of them, they have discovered answering machines and voicemail, so that's pretty handy. On top of that, they call back! Basically, Hertz is the Comcast of rental companies and if I never have to deal with them again. If they're the only option wherever I'm at, I'd rather walk or hitchhike. read more

BEWARE! I rented a car through Hertz, paying in advance 2 days before rental. I checked in early online with all my information. Today I called in advance of picking up the rental at 430 and was told rental was pre paid and good to go. When I arrived at this dreary hole in the wall the manager said I could not rent the vehicle without a corporate coupon because I was using a visa debit card. When I asked for a manager I was informed I was speaking to the manager. No "sorry", no "how can I make this right". Only too bad for you. Terrible customer service, terrible company. We had an appointment thru AAA for a car. We confirmed the appointment ourselves. So here I sit at the collision repair place stranded because they have nothing available. On top of this they lied by saying triple A gave them the wrong day when we confirmed the appointment with them ourselves. My entire day is down the drain. Use Enterprise. They are at least making an effort for me. I'm calling AAA to let them know what Hertz said about them as well so they have the option of directing their clients...elsewhere. if I could I'd give you zero stars....I would. read more

This location is by far the worst I've seen. They neglected to mention the daily lunch break from 12-1pm (no staff available for pick up/drop off) when I inquired about their hours by phone. When I arrived to pick up my rental, they only had an SUV although I reserved a compact car as a Hertz Gold Member. I strongly suggest using a different location, perhaps Folsom, if at all possible. We rented a car in Oakland yesterday, confirmed the $, return time and location. Today when we tried to return the car in Shingle Springs two hours before it was due we were sent another hour down the hill to another location, and they say we need to pay for the gas. Upon arrival the next location ( Roseville ) we find the business closed and a sign saying that our charges will continue until they reopen on Monday. So, now it seems that we are paying for 3 days instead of one, an additional 27 miles and gas. I think not. read more

The pricing for my car was a lot higher than Enterprise where I usually get a car, but since I needed one at the last minute I had to go with Hertz. I entered a very busy office with several people already ahead of me with only one person who was answering the phones and working with customers. My car was very small, very pricey and not equipped with cruise control, which I would have thought would be the most basic service available. read more

I give this 2 stars only for how close they are to the KOA we're staying at. Seriously, go anyplace else as they do overcharge here. It was almost $400.00 for two-days of a car rental. The car had scraps along the side of it, and the front drivers-side fender was loose. The manager chalked it up to it just "being a rental". So you can really tell that he cares about the cars he has on the lot. If you need to drop off the car on the weekend or before 9am, you're stuck, as they have no key drop box. You have to wait for operation hours only. Every car rental place I've ever been to has someone or someplace a person is able to drop off their car rental to. Now instead of us leaving early Saturday morning to head back to Colorado, we have to wait until 9am for another Hertz rental dealership in FOLSOM to open, so that we are able to drop off the car. Not being from this area, we asked where the Folsom Hertz is located, and the Manager said just look it up on your smartphone. Customer service is absolute negative, it's a circus and it is run by people who take tourist for a ride with their price gouging . read more

The manager acted helpful and assured me he would "see what he could do" First off, I made my reservation online and as a gold member I should've been allowed to pay with my CC on file. However, I did not physically have the card because I have it loaded into Apple Pay and use it that way all the time. I presented my debit card as a physical card, but needed to charge my AMEX. Apparently, this is not policy. However online it says as long as you present a physical card, you can PAY with any card you wish. Well that is not what happened. Also, I made the reservation for a full size SUV. My reservation was accepted and that is what I expected to be given on arrival. Nope.. They only had a Jeep Compass... Which is not big enough for what I need. Three kids in car seats... Have you saw the back seat of a Jeep Compass?? Well just because it says it seats 3.. Doesn't mean it does! So, I called before picking it up to make sure it was ready and that it would be easy pick up. They tell me they only have the jeep and that if I wanted I could call around... That "I" could call around and see if any other location had what I needed! That is not my job! I'm not being paid to find my own rental! I made a reservation online, and expected to get what I reserved!! And if you don't have it then YOU FIND IT FOR ME! So, because I was frustrated I called to find something. They won't have anything until Monday. And I have to drive almost 4 hours round trip to get the vehicle I need, the one I reserved!! Please tell me how this is caring about your customers? Doing your best to please your customer? Doing your job and making sure your customer is getting what they reserve and paid for?! As a veteran, hertz gold member, and frequent traveler... I had a wonderful experience with this company and location. I rented a compact car from dec 26 2016 until about jan 23 2017. I was quoted online about $500, upon the day of pickup the charge sky rocketed to over $1000, because the computer automatically added an age differential charge. The new location manager (i wish i remembered his name, he was great) was called and he was able to fix it to where i paid my original online quote. At the time of returning i was nervous because i had put ALOT of mileage on the car (which id rather not mention in case they never picked it up) and had dog hair stuck to every inch of the interior. The guy at the counter (he was the cleaner, as well) asked no questions, i paid the remainder of the balance and went on my way. Car was a 2017, immaculate with under 10,000 miles and i was very pleased with it (enough that i am thinking of buying one of their used rental cars). Its too bad to see all these awful, negative reviews considering my (first ever) car rental experience with them was wonderful. Thank you and I will be seeing you guys again soon! read more

Rented a Hyundai Sonata from this location 9/6/16 to 9/13/16 for a week @ $175 with all extra charges/taxes included. I booked online and had a cheaper rate, but this was "the best" they could do - so I went ahead and paid for it. I told him upfront I did not want insurance/damage protection @ $17 a day... my current car insurance has coverage as well as the credit card I used. I declined the prepay for gas of $38.95. John told me he had to do some "fat fingering" to get the price to work the way it did online, but if I had any issues to blame it on the older gentleman sitting over in the corner wearing a fedora (who I later found out had been working there 9 years). My wife was standing right beside me as he went through an hour long presentation/skit on how I was responsible for anything and everything that happens to the car unless I get the insurance..... I continued to decline. There was a lady behind us renting a car, who was laughing at the ridiculousness of the skit... but he continued - and we declined again. I had to fly out a day earlier than planned so my dad returned the car.... and they just gave him the receipt. That final receipt included the prepay for gas and the insurance totaling over $140 extra in charges. I called billing and they were very rude and just said, "sorry can't help you" and when I called the Shingle Springs office John denied even talking to me and told me to call corporate. I used Hertz to save a few dollars versus Enterprise.... and I have learned my lesson. I just hope people who go to rent a car see these reviews and steer clear of this place. Our reservation was for 8:30am but I noticed they opened at 8am. We were renting to go on a long road trip so I thought we'd show up early to maybe get a headstart. The manager was very rude right from the get-go. We were understanding and didn't mind waiting, but all he really needed to tell us was that he'd work on getting our car ready, not that our reservation isn't until 8:30 so it would be at least that long. We then started looking at the other reviews and noticed he likes to overcharge customers. This made us nervous. I drove to a beautiful location in Shingle Springs and the staff was very professional, courteous, and greeted me with a smile. The amount spent on the vehicle was reasonable. I waited less than 10 minutes to pick up the rental and was out in a flash. I would strongly recommend this location to others. read more

This place is the WORST!!! I called Monday at 1:20pm and my call ended up getting forwarded to the Folsom office. I spoke with a man that answered my call. Told him what I was looking for and reserved a car to be picked up at 2:00pm on Friday in the Shingle Springs office. I show up Friday to get the rental car and they had no record of it. He stated I should have been given a confirmation number. Since I didn't have one, he could not give me the price OR the car I reserved. He can give me a smaller car and for more money. Or I can wait till after 5:00 to get a car delivered from Folsom. Or I can drive to Folsom and pick up a car.... No thank you. I will not do business with this company again. Clearly they are only out for themselves. He basically told me don't shop local, spend your money else where or plan to pay more than you were promised. read more

I would leave no stars if that was possible. Over a week ago I arranged through my insurance (CSAA) and a local body shop for a rental car. I was assured the rental car would be waiting for me when I got to the body shop to leave my truck for repairs. After an hour and a half, numerous phone calls to Hertz, which they either didn't answer or the one time I got through they hung up on me, the driver finally appeared with a car. I sent him back to the agency and called Enterprise, who were fantastic as usual. I did call Hertz to express my dissatisfaction with their lack of service and also expressed my dissatisfaction with Hertz to CSAA. Don't bother going here for a car, they are terrible. read more

They provided me with a case number and said a customer service manager would get back to me within a week or two. It's been over a month and I have not heard back from anyone. David is a weasel business person......swaps out cars (for bigger models) & then charges the higher rate (under your nose) for damage protection. Then has the NERVE to say at time of "turn in"- "You could have gone to any Hertz Rental and switched cars"....really at END- you really pissing me off now. Save yourself the pain. We were told one amount but charged 36 dollars more. Requested a vehicle with hand controls. A small or medium SUV. They only had a car, even with several days advance notice. Had to drive to Sac international to swap out the car for what we needed.....and got from Enterprise. Then got back home to see the additional charges. No consideration for our situation. All I can say is Bite Me Hertz. We are good customers but now only at Enterprise. read more

I rented from them some time ago and they said I stole the spare (donut). My car has a full size spare, why would I do that? This deserves ZERO STARS. i prepaid for a hertz car online for a week because it was a lower rate and i thought it would be easier for us to just pick-up already paid for rather than spending the time at the counter. oh, what a mistake that was. hertz was so disorganized and the place never had anyone there though we had registered to pick a car up to be ready we needed for meeting to go to. when ready to pick-up there no one was at your store. we were running late to a meeting. later a truck pulls up in the parking lot where a red-eyed young man who was very high on drugs gets out of truck with smoke coming out and a girlfriend sitting in it. he apologized for not being there on time. he kept looking away and down nervously because he did not want to look us to look him in the eye because he was definitely high on something. he gave us our prepaid car rental we reserved but crazy tells us he'll give us a good rate for the car as we left with the keys. we couldn't ever understand what he was ever talking about since we had already paid for a rental but said ok and we had to quickly leave because he made us so late to our meeting. upon returning the prepaid rental car this hertz employee takes and checks in the prepaid car as we expected and we left never knowing he charged us again now double on my credit card without my authorization. and for a whopping $173.84 when i already prepaid $97.87 before we even picked up the car. this began a whole bunch of nightmares in dealing with this terrible company. rather than being treated as a good paying customer who prepaid the bill from the start, i had to fight for months on trying to fix this. no one there would ever answer the phones. in addition, when we tried to go to this store the doors were always locked and the store never had anyone ever there even at different hours. finally, when i get a hold of the hertz guy, he is rude and says for me to call a different number of hertz's company that ended up being some old hertz disconnected number. i had to find online on my own how to complain. my bank saw the double charges and removed the higher amount i was double charged. but later found out hertz instead erased the prepaid discount rental amount saying i never picked up the prepaid rental and instead stuck me with the higher charge of the same exact rental days/time that i prepaid for. this became an incredible nightmare that should have been easy for me since i prepaid before i rented the car. i should have picked the car with ease ready for me and returned without trouble of a different rental. your employee was too out of it to even understand he was opening up a different rental for the one a paid for and reserved. now almost a half a year later we have spent numerous hours trying to call and even write emails and letters to the corp. they have never been helpful but treat you as though you are cheating them when i prepaid them in the beginning. i have never felt so dissatisfied and sick to my stomach as this company behaves. i very corrupt business all around. we travel a lot and use rentals quite often that our business now has decided to use enterprise (who is directly across the street from hertz) just because of this miserable way of being treated by hertz. take your business elsewhere. this is not a good company at all! read more

AAA member services had arranged a car rental for me after my car had to be towed so I walked from my workplace (about 1/2 mile) but when I got there at 4, I was told the reservation was for 5 & they wouldn't have a car for me until after 5, but reassured me they were open until 5:30. After picking up my 4 year old, I returned to get my car at 5:15. The employee that I had talked to earlier was in his car driving away. He looked right at me but didn't stop or come back. I assumed there must be another employee to get my car, after all he knew I was coming back for my car. Well, I found the doors locked & lights turned off. I was stranded with a 4 year old & no car. Our son rented a car from this location. He had been re-ended and needed a rental car for a week while his car was repaired. The car rental was $200 and was paid for by the other drivers insurance company. The person at the counter never let him know that they would be charging his card for over $500 for insurance. After spending an hour on hold with their billing dept., most of these charges were taken off our card. Who does business like this? If we hadn't of taken our time to fight this our son would have had to pay 3 times the rental fee for insurance that they didn't tell him he was buying. If you have to do business with this location I would recommend making sure they give you (in writing) everything they are going to charge you in the end. read more

Doesn't get much better and simpler than this. I'm 21 and needed to rent a car for 2 days, I went to daves rentals and they were going to charge me 290 plus tax plus i needed my own full coverage insurance and the service was not good. Then last minute I went to hertz and got a great car and only paid about 120 with insurance. Definitely, going back to these guys. Service was also great and fast... was in and out in about 5-10 mins. read more

I needed to exchange a Hertz car I had rented at the Sacramento Airport because my grandkid's carseat wouldn't fit correctly. Mike at this location was so helpful and friendly, very professional and efficient. The entire exchange transaction took less than ten minutes. And there was no problem at all when I eventually returned the replacement car to the airport. read more

Judging by past reviews, this place has clearly undergone a change in staff or new management because my experience with this Hertz location and, specifically, Alex, was about the best experience I've ever had renting a car (and I travel quite a bit). They are a small location but will move mountains to accommodate your requests or otherwise compensate you. Not to mention, their prices are the best in the area, which is nice to know for those of us who live here. I highly recommend Shingle Springs Hertz. read more

Can I post zero stars? We reserved a car for a holiday trip out of state to save on milage and wear on our own vehicles at a reasonable price. Luckily we didn't pre-pay for this rental or we may have been unable to cancel without a fee. On the day of our trip we arrived a few minutes ahead of our pick up time knowing we needed to fill out paperwork prior to our long drive. After standing in the lobby for a bit, we met possibly the most unfriendly, unhappy service "Representatives" of our lives. The "Representative" made it abundantly clear that he was not prepared to help us upon our arrival. After waiting almost 45 minutes we noticed that they had just begun to clean our rental. Again, we approached the counter again to see if we could at least process paperwork, and were told rudely that he would come find us when he was ready to help us. Note: we were the first customers of the day! Not too busy! Fortunately we had time to read all of the other horror stories on Yelp while we waited . At this point we informed "The Representative" that we needed to go due to the delay, and for the first time "The Representative" smiled and said "Okay, goodby". read more
