I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with Hertz Car Rental. I reserved and prepaid for a midsize vehicle through Southwest Vacations, with all pricing disclosed at the time of booking. When I arrived at the rental counter, the agent stated she did not need my Southwest confirmation number and proceeded to offer what she described as employee, AAA, and Costco discounts. At no point did I request or authorize an upgrade or any changes to my reservation. After returning the vehicle, I was surprised to receive additional charges totaling $383.25 for a vehicle upgrade that I never requested or approved. The paperwork presented at the counter was not clearly explained, and I was never informed that accepting the vehicle would result in significant additional charges beyond my prepaid reservation. I have disputed these charges, submitted supporting documentation, and filed complaints with both my credit card company and consumer protection agencies. Customers should carefully review every document presented at the rental counter and insist on receiving a clear explanation of any changes to their reservation before signing. I had an absolutely frustrating experience with Hertz at Tri Cities Airport and would strongly caution anyone against renting from this location. I returned my rental car at Spokane, which was clearly noted on my reservation. Simple enough -- except getting a receipt turned into a nearly all-day ordeal. The Tri Cities desk told me the car hadn't been checked in yet and couldn't issue a receipt. Spokane confirmed it was checked in at 10:15 AM -- right when I dropped it off. So I called Tri Cities back. That's when things got really bad. I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes. I hung up and called back. Eight times. No answer. I left two voicemails. As of writing this review, no one has called me back. All I needed was a receipt to submit for a business expense reimbursement -- something that should take two minutes. To make matters worse, I contacted Hertz Corporate hoping they could step in. I was told that because this is an independently operated Hertz location, Corporate could not assist me. So there is essentially zero accountability and zero recourse for customers. This experience is completely unacceptable. Their reviews online are fully consistent with the treatment I received -- I wish I had read them before booking. I will never rent from Hertz again, at any location. DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ. We usually rent from enterprise but there was a problem and they ran out of cars, literally. So, we were desperate as we were on a work trip and needed a very large SUV. Hertz was the only place that had one. They GOUGED us on the rate for the car. We nearly tripled what we were paying at enterprise. The guy asked me if I wanted any coverage I said no and he said ok it "comes with the liability coverage". I was like oh ok that works.. I STUPIDLY assumed it was because of how much they were charging me for the car per day. So, I initialed next to the total amount of the rental. He just kept saying it was included with the type of car we had. So, I trusted him like a moron. Come to find out he CHARGED me nearly 600 dollars for the coverage that I declined. I have witnessing who heard me decline it to him and heard him say it was included. If they pulled the footage they'd see the guy was a liar. I called hertz customer service who referred it back to the Spokane location who said I accepted and signed for it and nobody is refunding me. I told them the entire story and they insisted I accepted it and won't refund me the cost of the added insurance. Not to mention that, when we got our car it was FILTHY, and then the next day the check engine light comes on and says there is no oil in the vehicle. At this point we were an hour away from Hertz with Jan packed days so we couldn't get back out. We just kept driving it. Fast forward, o return that car to get a different one as I had to extend my trip and the new car is also filthy. This time a few hours later the car tells me the air in one of the tires is low and I need to fill it. So, I did. I will NEVER rent from hertz again. This was one of the worst rental car experiences, and the customer service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. Stay AWAY from the hertz at Spokane especially. I like Hertz, and am willing to pay more for the convenience, and have had good luck in Hawaii, SLC, DEN, etc. But my wife's experience in Spokane sucked. The car she was told was hers did not match what I had reserved (Buick Enclave, but she was led to a KONA). Tried to upgrade, ended up with a Rav4, so stripped was surprised it did not have roll up windows. Take my advice, pick any OTHER rental agency in Spokane, even AZ Car rental has to be better. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS HERTZ LOCATION! The Hertz car rental at Spokane Airport is a franchise, and their policies and procedures are a nightmare for customers. I returned my rental at 5 AM for a 6 AM flight, but there was no employee present to accept the vehicle or check it in. The Hertz counter was also empty, leaving me with no option but to leave the car and keys as instructed. Later, I was falsely accused of damage that did not exist when I had possession of the vehicle. The claim stated that "Emma found a ding and scrape on the driver-side front door and quarter panel," yet the repair invoice listed extensive work on the front bumper, grille, headlamp, fender, and door--none of which were issues when I returned the car. The fraudulent charges amounted to $1,432.55, plus a $300 service fee and additional loss-of-use costs. When I contacted Hertz's corporate claims department, they refused to assist, stating that this location is a franchise and they have no control over it. This location is running a shady operation, and I strongly advise against renting from them. If you do, take extensive photos and videos before and after your rental to protect yourself. I rented a vehicle from this Spokane location via Expedia, the rental was listed as a "Managers Special". I had the car less than 24 hours and drove it less than 30 minutes. It was returned in the same condition I received it --no damage, no issues, and absolutely nothing flagged during the return process. I was shocked to later receive a damage claim, including photos and a repair estimate. There was no evidence presented that the damage happened while the vehicle was in my care. The timing and lack of transparency raise serious concerns. Communication from the company has been evasive, they have submitted a damage claim with a third party called PurCo and refused to communicate with me directly. I contest this claim and have made that clear. Unfortunately, this Hertz/Dollar location is an independent operator, corporate is unable to get involved - quite unfortunate as I am a regular customer of Hertz/Dollar, and will no longer use them because of this experience. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and feels like an opportunistic attempt to make money off of honest consumers. I urge anyone traveling to Spokane, Washington to avoid this company at all costs! It is obvious by the other Yelp reviews that this problem will happen to other consumers. We had a very smooth and professional experience. Pickup is luckily right by baggage claim (yey to no shuttles) and Hertz is closest. They recognized my status, quick and smooth checkin. Chad even went above and beyond and pulled our van around when he heard our family of 5 had tons of luggage that hadn't come in yet. We appreciated his professional and friendly attitude. Don't bother, they do not take responsibility for anything. We rented a ford edge which was brand new and my wife went to Costco and while unloading the groceries she put her purse with the car keys in the driver side seat made sure the doors were unlocked and walked the cart to the return. When she got back to the car she discovered all the doors had automatically locked which the car is not supposed to do if your keys are inside. We called the local office and they referred us to roadside assistance, roadside assistance was down and couldn't help us and asked us to call back in an hour. So we called the location back and asked if they could bring out a spare set of keys to unlock the car or to see if they had setup remote access for the car and could unlock it, we were told they didn't have the keys and they couldn't help us. When we finally got through to the roadside assistance they couldn't even find the rental, they ended up calling the local office and apparently the rental was in another system and they could only send someone out even though the car wasn't supposed to lock with the keys inside. We were stuck and held hostage by this office and the complete lack of accountability or help. Someone did finally find the spare set of keys but they wouldn't even offer to bring them to us we had to get an Uber and pick them up if we wanted them. We either had to agree to the lockout fee or an Uber both ways so my wife finally agreed and they came and unlocked us. Today I got the bill for the unlock and called to speak with the "manager" Mark who refused to take any accountability and blamed my wife for leaving the keys in the car, because no one puts there purse down and walks to a cart return....with the car in plain sight. If you expect everything to work perfectly and not need any form of human decency from your rental agency then rent from these soulless people otherwise take your business somewhere where you will be treated with a modicum of respect. read more

I travel very frequent for work, we are supposed to rent from Hertz, since they filed for bankruptcy it's been down hill for Hertz - however, this location has got to be the worst of them all....the service is horrible, the only time as a member of the "presidents" club do I get good service is when the younger blond guy is working....other then that- different people with attitude like they hate there job!!! For now on, when traveling to Spokane I will use National- better car and people.....it could be due to this location being a franchisee. Read the bad reviews- most of them are true! BTW- take pictures and videos because they will contact you weeks later that you returned a damaged vehicle. read more

I planned a trip to Spokane to visit my son, paid for a SUV online through Expedia And paid extra for car insuranc.e. When I go to airport, the young man at counter asked if I wanted to purchase extra insurance coverage. I told him I already did that online. He said oh ok ok well sign here and initial here and here and I'll get you the keys . oh and there will be a $600 hold on your card because it's a debit. You will get that back after you turn it in. I signed and it isles the very small print contract. When I got to the hotel I noticed the hold was on $722. So I called back, got the same young man who told me oh it's because if you don't bring the car back full of gas, it's $8.99 per gallon to fill up. I said ok if I bring the car back full, I get the entire $722 held money back? He told me yes, you get the $722 back. once returned, I noticed all but $105 was returned. I called Hertz and was told I bought extra insurance thru them. I said I did not, I bought it thru Expedia. I was told that's not the same insurance and didn't I sign the contract? I explained what I was told and that I was told to sign and initial. I didn't realize he added extra insurance without telling me. I also explained the same young man told me I would get all of the money held returned. Again I was told oh well you signed the contract. I believe this is a sales gimmic- talk fast don't explain and just get people to sign the super tiny print while they are in a hurry. It's a rip off and I will never rent from hertz agian. We have never been to Spokane before and were pleasantly surprised by our recent experience there even knowing they had a 2-star rating. We arrived not knowing how busy it would be with Gonzaga hosting their graduation along with Mother's Day, and a high school prom all happening that weekend. Hertz was open so we could pickup late on a Friday. Agent was pleasant and thorough. The Altima we received was clean and to our surprise brand new (only 50 miles). We always purchase LDW to cover any mishaps with the car (our personal insurance agent always recommends this). It was raining when we dropped off and we ended up in a lane with poor coverage from the elements. The check-in crew verified we filled up and said they would email us the receipt. Overall it was a great experience and not sure why this Hertz would have a 2 star rating. They completely met expectations and delivered as expected. read more

Hertz is a dishonest company. I was contacted by their claims department WEEKS AFTER returning my rental car that I owed for damage to the windshield. They provided photos that don't actually show any damage, which the claims department acknowledged - and yet still demanded payment from me and threatened collections against me if I refused to pay. Because I had signed a blank damage form with my other rental documents, I had no choice but to pay up. These business practices are likely how they manage to pay their upper executives big bonuses just before filing bankruptcy. This by far was hands-down, the worst service experience ever! we were charged an additional $25 a day when the reservation agent did not acknowledge that it would be an upgrade it was simply "will put you in a RAV 4". Upon our return we were running late for our flight return the keys and it wasn't till we saw our credit card bill that this charge had been added I tried to work on numerous occasions directly with the manager as this location is a franchisee there was no empathy lack of customer service lack of understanding, and I went directly to corporate corporate could not do anything, I am so incredibly dissatisfied. Hertz Spokane and Orbitz don't play well together-- according to the counter agents who told us all about their "system" and why they had to DOUBLE charge us for a pre-paid Orbitz rental. Why you ask? Because of a voucher system that "just doesn't work." The Hertz Spokane employees AND the manager insisted that their broken system gave them the authority to double charge us. Then they flat out refuse to refund it. Here's what happened: After pre-paying for a rental car through Orbitz, the Hertz counter at the Spokane airport charged us in FULL for the rental, plus the standard deposit. I told them they were wrong-- and showed my prepaid receipt. They insisted I had two choices: I was literally stuck with either double paying for a car reservation(once to Orbits and again to Hertz) or not getting a car *and* losing my prepaid deposit to Orbitz (it was non-refundable). But, the employee said, I can trust them-- the manager would fix the issue in the morning, and when I returned the car my receipt would reflect the correct charge. Unfortunately, upon returning the car, the manager stated he had been trying to fix it for four business days. And again I was given a lesson on their system and how vouchers work. I cannot stress this enough-- I DO NOT CARE how their system works. Having already paid in full, but being charged in full AGAIN by employees who knew full well that they were double billing you is theft. Word of advice: NEVER pre-pay a rental car! And Avoid Hertz Spokane: there are plenty of rental car options in Spokane. I've had great service at both Avis and Enterprise in Spokane. I should have read the yelp reviews before I reserved the car. Orbitz and Hertz Spokane should both be ashamed. Just because you can't get your systems to work together does not give you the right to double charge my credit card. And promising to remove the charge 5 days later is not an acceptable resolution. read more

I am super brand loyal to Hertz. I've never had a problem renting with them, always get great vehicles to drive, pricing is comparable (or better) and when things do go wrong they take care of you asap. My one comment - and it's not about this location which was helpful, friendly and fast - is that I wish you could have all of your primary drivers currently covered on your personal insurance able to drive the rental without an additional fee. This rental location is in the lower level of the airport and you walk out to a small row of cars to pick up your vehicle. It's easy in and easy out on both pickup and return. read more

SCAM warning. Was relieved they had my $216 contract price rental. Young lady said "all you have to do is initial here, here, and here." Those initials cost me an additional $220. I NEVER take extra insurance coverage because I have primary rental car coverage through my fancy travel credit card. But apparently, at this location, they dont have to mention they are doubling the cost of your rental. Make them print out what the rental will cost you before you leave, (after what ever they make you sign to get the car) and DONT accept their email print out on return (have them give it to you on the spot). read more

The pits !!! I would never rent any vehicle from Hertz ever again. They over charged for an SUV that my wife used for a trip to Spokane, WA. We rented through Hotwire.com and paid for everything with them. She picked the SUV up and was told insurance did not cover SUVs, so we spent $299 more than Hotwire charged for 1 week rental. The help that Mark provided was so feeble it was not even funny, a credit for $17, I drink that much in 1/2 hour at the bar. In future trips I will contact rentals directly to reserve and pay them directly too, but NOT Hertz. My wife wanted to turn SUV in 1 day early and was told she would be surcharged for early drop off, really, I think they could take the car back early and rerent it. She needed to stay near airport to return vehicle next day. Again this was not a joke. read more
