I rented a Thrifty rental car through Hotwire.com and got a great price. However, when I arrived to pick the vehicle up, the additional fees were far different from what I was quoted - Hotwire had screwed something up and I was expected to pay far more. Zak - the person whom I spoke with at the counter, quickly understood that the problem was Hotwire's. I contacted Hotwire, and Zak got Dan (his manager). Apparently it is a common problem for Hotwire to do this, and through quick action on the behalf of Dan, Hotwire cancelled my contract and refunded me - and then Dan and Zak were able to provide me a car at the same rate I booked with Hotwire. Turning the car back in was super easy, and I am extremely satisfied. Watching Dan turn into a Karen and ask for the Hotwire person's manager was the best entertainment I could have possibly had on a busy day of Christmas travel. 1 if that! This place told me I was good to go on car rental with a drivers licence and debit card. They didn't specify to me online booking the car rental or over the phone i needed a credit card to book my car rental. It was an add for a book now pay later ad. So I take the bus all the way down to the airport only to be told my debit card isn't accepted it has to be a credit card. I'm trying to rent a car so I can go car shopping because my car broke down. And then they just said that it could be another 2 hours to get the car. At the LAX Airport. This has been the worst car rental experience ever. And I've rented dozens of times. Hard up sell at the rental counter, especially with insurances. As soon as you decline, the friendliness goes away and the process is rushed through. Be sure to do a thorough inspection of the vehicle for scratches, windshield issues, etc, and keep the carbon copy for any issues upon return. Beware of return!! Take a photo of mileage and gas meter. Touch base with return attendant to ensure that you agree on fuel level and car condition. Keep all gas receipts. After my return, I was billed $67 for gas, yet I returned the car with a 100% full tank. Had to email and call to have this charge removed, even after the return attendant verified upon return of car that all was good. Do not trust these people, 3 day rental cost me $811 dollars. Original Expedia cost was $356. I rented through Expedia and when I got to the counter my return time was off so the agent made some adjustments. He was really nice, seemed helpful but alas he was only cheating me. Added insurance which I declined on Expedia etc. When they walk you through the sign offs you can't read what your signing, and the emailed all my contract and receipt to someone else. Zero star. Was told one thing at check in and then held to the fire by the actual franchisee. Zero empathy, zero customer service, and ZERO AC IN CAR. They charged me an extra day just for returning a car to an agreed to time (with check in agent) and a car that was not rentable. Upgraded to suburban and had no ac. Upon returning to the airport, we stopped a couple miles before our exit and topped off the rank before retiring it. I was charged an additional gurl charge of 32.97, thrifty claiming an extra 3 gallons of fuel. With the fuel line showing full driving off and unable to prove the tank was topped off and us returning it showing fuel line at full. I rented a car from Thrifty and when I turned the car in, there wasn't damage to the car. The lot attendant and I walked around the car and did a 360° inspection. A few weeks later I received a notice in the mail for $1,480 worth of damage. There were pictures showing a damaged front bumper. When I told them it wasn't damaged when I dropped it off and Riley, the lot attendant, did the walk around with me, they said that didn't matter. Then I asked to find who from Thrifty Car Rental moved the car after I dropped it off and they said "I'll tell you right now that you're not getting that information". In the end, I will have to pay $1,480 for damage that I did not do. I asked Jadine Brown (the agent from Purco - the company that handles the claim for Thrifty) this: "Jadine, put yourself in my shoes...if you know you didn't damage the vehicle, how would you feel about paying $1,480 to pay for damage you didn't do?" She said she wouldn't answer that question and I still needed to pay the claim. You're not a person at Thrifty Car Rental - you're just a number and no one cares how you feel. This could also happen to you so please make sure to rent from anywhere else. Also, looks up reviews from TrustPilot, Google and other sites. I'm very disappointed with the Thrifty and their "Mystery" offer. I think you should discontinue offering it. When I chose the offer I just needed a small inexpensive car to get a round town for a few days. The agent said all he had was a 15 passenger van! How is that possible!? I told him I knew how to drive a van and then he told me all the Spokane parking spots were super small - needless to say he fast talked me into a much more expensive package ( that was available) costing 20 $ more a day!! One of the few times I have to leave a rather negative review. I did not get my receipt ever. The guy at the counter was scamming people as I saw in front of me, and also with me. The charges here at the airport are also high. The car was clean that's the only thing that can be described as good in the experience. Car was advertised as having unlimited mileage, but when I got to the airport, the travel area was limited to a radius and anything beyond was $0.32/mile. If I could give this rental car company zero stars, I absolutely would. My sister and I wanted to take our elderly mother to see her sister, likely for the last time. We made our reservation are were so excited for our trip. However, after arriving at the Spokane airport our excitement was stifled when we arrived at the Thrifty car rental window. The young man working the front desk tried to charge us a ton of fees that were not disclosed when we booked our reservation online. When we inquired about the fees, his reply was condescending and rude. He started making jokes about the situation and refused to let me speak to a manager. Our reservation was only suppose to cost $253 at the time of pick up. Upon arrival, he said it was going to cost more than $ 1,000 (+). We were stuck at the counter, with our mom in a wheelchair, with no way to complete the last leg of our trip as none of us could afford the ridiculous fees they were trying to get us to pay. They even went as far as telling us that we had to pay even more because we were paying with a Visa? This was one of the most frustrating and anxiety provoking situation I have ever been in. I would never recommend thrifty rental car to anybody. Luckily, we were able to find another company to rent a car from (thank you Alamo )! The manager was extremely rude about it, I tried to call a different location to speak to the regional manager, and supposedly he was on vacation. Tried to call the corporate number, it was some Indian tech support guy and they hung up on me. STAY AWAY, REVIEW THE NEGATIVE POSTS ON HERE BEFORE BOOKING WITH THEM. The negative reviews on here are spot on from our terrible experience with Thrifty at the Spokane Airport! Dan's customer service was terrible and protected his staff with all the wrong doings. He mentioned that he went back to the videos and proved that everything they did was properly handled. I asked him to forward me the video but couldn't make it happen with other customers on the tape. I asked him to crop my section and he still wouldn't accommodate my request. They know they are at fault but they don't want to take the blame. It all started at arrival. We arrived 45 minutes before our car rental pick up time of 1:00 PM, they stated they won't have our premium car available and they could put us in a Nissan Rogue AWD. Keep in mind, the premium car would have been a Nissan Maxima or comparable. A base Nissan Rogue AWD run around $27K - New, and a base Nissan Maxima runs around $34K - New. So i felt I was being downgraded to the Rogue, I can see that the Rogue AWD during the winter could be an upgrade, but it was mid-summer. We ended up paying an upgrade charge to the Nissan Rogue. I've checked on the website week over week and not one time does the Rogue cost more to rent than the Maxima...hmmm??? We decided to fly home out of Couer D'Alene airport and reached out to Thrifty to see if we could return the car to CDA, at that time, they stated that they car had already been returned 1 hour 30 mins after we checked out. How could that be when we still have the car? It's because their whole system is screwed up. The informed me that there would be an additional charge of $100 to return to CDA. Upon returning from our trip, there was a charge of $100 + another $102 and charge and they stated the additional charge was for taxes and upgrade fee. So when they stated the car had been returned 1 hour 30 mins after we checked out the car, to me, that means the car we were suppose to receive was check-in 1 hour 30 mins. They initiated stated the car wouldn't be ready for another 45 minutes. Well the car came in 1 hour 30 minutes later. I think they know renters don't want to wait the time, so they going ahead and provide you what's available. Who want's to wait around at the airport when they can get you off in another car. read more

PSA: DO NOT rent from this company or this location! I had to rent a car at midnight to get home. They charged me $177.00 for an SUV that I clearly did not need, claiming they had no other vehicles. WORST PART: I drove the car 56 miles. No damage when I picked it up and no damage when I dropped it off the next day. Line agent witnessed it and said I was good to go. Now there is a claim against me for $665 and pictures of a cracked windshield going straight down the center. Anyone would have noticed this, especially while driving! My boyfriend worked with the third-party person working on this for Thrifty, and finally they decided we weren't worth pursuing. I really think this is a scam and will never rent from Thrifty again. Kimberly was great! We were exhausted after a long flight from the east coast, and Kimberly was thorough in explaining all of the additional options and charges. I booked my rental in advance via Priceline and when I arrived at they airport they refused provide a vehicle on the grounds that I did not yet have an outgoing flight booked, citing company policy. That in and of itself was frustrating, but to add insult to injury I stood waiting at an unattended desk for several minutes, and when the gentleman (term used very loosely) did appear from the back he was generally rude. This was a poorer customer service than we have had in a 3rd world country. Our RESERVED vehicle was rented out before we arrived. Therefore, we could PAY MORE for an upgrade or pay 10% less for a vehicle we did t order. This all after standing in line for FORTY MINUTE Response: After a 40 min wait in line, we were told that an outback was available. I specifically asked if this was a smaller SUV and was promptly told "yes and I will give you a discount". Had it been in the same class I don't see any need to agree that it is smaller class and provide discount. Please don't mistake the fact that a discount was offered with any kindness in mind!! Can you say bait and switch? My husband reserved a one week rental for a Compact size vehicle ("Chevrolet Cobalt or similar"). When he arrived on his flight yesterday, the rep at the counter told him they didn't have any compact vehicles available. Instead, he was offered a Toyota Yaris (which is much smaller, more like an Economy or Subcompact size -- with roll-up windows, to boot). My husband noticed they had a nice Chevy Cobalt parked on the lot and asked why he couldn't have that car. The rep told him it would cost him an extra $60 to get that car (yet, that was precisely the car model he had reserved). My husband then asked to speak with a manager. The youngish looking rep replied that he WAS the manager and refused to budge on the extra $. My husband reluctantly took the Cobalt but is very unhappy. Today he spoke with Dollar corporate and was told there was nothing they would do because the Spokane airport location is a franchise! Aren't there laws against this sort of bait and switch in Washington state? Next call will be to the Washington Attorney General's office. read more

STAY AWAY. Bite the bullet and pay a few extra bucks at another agency. Starting off, with one couple in front of me in line, it took 40 minutes just to get to the counter. Following, once the man who helped me saw i wasn't going to buy into any of his insurances, he immediately changed his attitude toward me and became extremely cold and short with me. Then suddenly, after being quoted $85 online, my total was now $97... "due to taxes and fees that don't show up online" Returning the vehicle: my passenger accidentally left a fairly expensive and very noticeable item in the car. When reaching out to them a day later, they casually said they didn't have it and that we signed away all rights to property left in the vehicle and they are not liable for anything. SO SKETCHY. The icing on the cake is that i ended up ultimately paying $144 for a car rental i was originally quoted $85. This was a in part because i accidentally forgot to top off the tank and they charged me $7/gal to refill.... but i'm still waiting for my receipt with the charge breakdown they've said they were going to email me several times now. Granted, my fault for the not refilling, but still, one more reason to find a better place to rent a car from. Tried to save a few dollars and ended up getting screwed out of our property and paying way more than if i'd just stuck with a company i know and trust. Lesson learned. The best car rental place I've ever been to period. I actually started using them a few years ago when they were the only rental company accepting debit cards and at the time I owned no credit card. It was Christmas and I was in spokane to see my daughter, so they not only saved the holiday, but got themselves a lifelong customer for my monthly visits up to spokane. At this point they've almost become friends. They know my work, my daughter, always remember details about my life. They always are accommodating upgrades, most recently Robert and Octavian providing upgrades. It's a truly one of a kind car rental company, and it's always great to see a familiar friendly smile every month, as every employee there is friendly and very helpful. It's always frustrating to hear there is a recall on your vehicle... hence I was set up with a rental for a day while my audi was in the shop. Thrifty picked me up at the dealership, and swiftly sent me on my way. The process of renting the vehicle took about 4 minutes, which was pleasant. The gentleman who picked me up was super upbeat, and very professional. When I returned the rental, they also gave me a ride back to the audi dealership. It was a different Thrifty employee, whom was also super upbeat and outgoing. Very courtious as well. The rental was very clean (which is rare with enterprise) inside and out. The many times I have rented a car it has never been easy, and I usually end up very frustrated. I usually rent from Enterprise, and I believe this is the first time I have rented with Thrifty.
