Low fluid warning at the beginning of the rental. This after being refused a non-CA plated car in Spokane Washington.

I travel a lot and always rent with Avis because they typically have great service. Spokane is always the exception. I've been given the wrong cars, cars without windshield wiper fluid, cars with very low volume and speed locks, and now a car that won't let me hook up to Car Play. Not sure why this station always is less than perfect, but the issues I've had outweigh the no issue rentals by far.

Proof of miles driven and flown.

[Counter]: The rental car counters at Spokane International Airport (GEG) are all located within a 5 to 10 minute walk from all concourses. There is no need to take shuttles or trams. [Rate]: Approximately $90 for a one-day rental of a midsize car. [Checking-in]: I accidentally waited in the wrong line and ended up having a staff member from National assist with my Alamo check-in. National and Alamo are owned by the same parent company (Enterprise Holdings). I had already checked in ahead of time via email, but I still needed to sign the rental agreement at the counter. [Pick-up]: To my surprise, I picked up a brand-new Nissan Sentra with only 8 miles on the odometer. Unfortunately, I was a little confused because there was no exit booth for checkout and I actually circled back to the pickup area & double-checked with a staff member. Unlike other rental car centers at larger airports, once car key is secured at the rental car counter then just simply drive out. [Drop-off]: Easy drop-off, but I had to flag down a staff member as there was only one person handling the return process for all returned vehicles. [Conclusion]: Overall the service was friendly and efficient, but it would be even better if (1) there were one more staff member supporting the pick-up and drop-off processes and (2) staff provided clearer airport exit instructions to avoid second guessing.

The Avis counter next door had a long line and the guy in the front of the Budget line kind of shrug and so I walked down to one of the other counters that didn't have a line and asked "how do we get a Budget employee?" The person pointed at the Avis counter and let us know that they would help us. The customer at the front of the Budget counter looked over at the Avis counter to which the girl working the Avis counter tells him "you can get in line here". If looks could kill. So there were only two families in the Avis line, even though there were plenty of people and now this irate customer and us but we waited about 25 minutes. Its a long process to rent a car and if you get stuck with one client, well damn. By the time we got our car there was a long line of about 20 people. Don't know how many cars but I waited 25 minutes and was the 4th car rented. I hope they are all getting into one big van!

They also did not have a car for any of the other people that were trying to honor their reservations. The staff was nice enough and apologized for the misunderstanding but then they added our names to a list and told us that they would call once a vehicle became available, we are still waiting. My question to Budget car rental is, what is the point of a reservation if there is not enough stock on hand to honor it? Why isn't there a few vehicles held in reserve to cover for the "late return" that snowballed into being on a waiting list with 12+ other families trying to get where they are trying to go?

When I arrived at the rental counter, the agent stated she did not need my Southwest confirmation number and proceeded to offer what she described as employee, AAA, and Costco discounts. At no point did I request or authorize an upgrade or any changes to my reservation. After returning the vehicle, I was surprised to receive additional charges totaling $383.25 for a vehicle upgrade that I never requested or approved. The paperwork presented at the counter was not clearly explained, and I was never informed that accepting the vehicle would result in significant additional charges beyond my prepaid reservation. I have disputed these charges, submitted supporting documentation, and filed complaints with both my credit card company and consumer protection agencies. Customers should carefully review every document presented at the rental counter and insist on receiving a clear explanation of any changes to their reservation before signing. This experience has left me feeling misled and frustrated. I expected transparency and honesty but did not receive either. I would not rent from Hertz again based on this experience.

I returned my rental car at Spokane, which was clearly noted on my reservation. Simple enough -- except getting a receipt turned into a nearly all-day ordeal. The Tri Cities desk told me the car hadn't been checked in yet and couldn't issue a receipt. Spokane confirmed it was checked in at 10:15 AM -- right when I dropped it off. So I called Tri Cities back. That's when things got really bad. I was placed on hold for over 20 minutes. I hung up and called back. Eight times. No answer. I left two voicemails. As of writing this review, no one has called me back. All I needed was a receipt to submit for a business expense reimbursement -- something that should take two minutes. To make matters worse, I contacted Hertz Corporate hoping they could step in. I was told that because this is an independently operated Hertz location, Corporate could not assist me. So there is essentially zero accountability and zero recourse for customers. This experience is completely unacceptable. Their reviews online are fully consistent with the treatment I received -- I wish I had read them before booking. I will never rent from Hertz again, at any location. Don't waste your time or money here.

Although we had 4 car options to pick from (for standard car), it does not feel like you get spoiled with options compared to some other locations. Loyal National Customer, Let Down in Spokane…read more I hate writing this one. I'm an Emerald Club Executive member who travels roughly two weeks a month, and National has earned my loyalty over a lot of trips. That's exactly why this Spokane experience stung. There's no Emerald Lot "pick your car and go" option here. Not a dealbreaker on its own, but that flexibility is a big part of why I choose National. So I went to the desk, got checked in, and was told there were no cars available. I'd have to wait for the manager to call my name. Thirty-five minutes. While I waited, I watched other customers get called, get offered vehicles, and hear the manager, Tony, apologize and offer upgrades. When my name finally came up, I was offered a full-size sedan. I asked about a larger SUV, something I'm used to as an Executive member, and was told I'd booked a mid-size and would be charged more for the upgrade. I explained that hadn't been my experience elsewhere. The response was that the desk gets charged for the different class. I never have been. What bothered me most wasn't the car. It was watching that same accommodation extended to everyone ahead of me and not to me. The delay also made me late to a scheduled meeting. For a loyal customer with choices, that's poor form. Credit where it's due: Tony handled a genuinely unruly, belligerent customer with real composure and defused the situation well. That part was impressive. National, I want to keep choosing you. Spokane, so better.

With that being said, there are some perks to being a smaller airport - easy to navigate. What's nice about GEG is that there is a direct flight from LAX to GEG and the Idaho border is only about two-hour drive away from GEG. [Rental Car]: Easy access to rental car counters as they are within 5 - 10 minutes of walking distance from all concourses - no need to take shuttles or use a people mover system. Please note that there is no exit booth for rental cars. Once car key is secured at the rental car counter, then just simply drive out.
