I am a corporate customer and have rented from this location every month for over a year. Typically, things are smooth! I return my car to the girl working there (she wears glasses), and she is friendly, respectful, punctual! About six months ago, I noticed one of the cars they rented to me, had a little bit of the weatherstripping pulled up on the side of the car.. no big deal so I jumped in, had my trip, and came to return it. I told the new person working at the desk that there was a little bit of damage to the car, didn't affect my trip, but wanted to let them know. They came back with a bill for me for over $1400. Their claims response agent was aggressive & rude, threatening to send me to collections unless I paid them immediately. I talked with the agent at the desk and they told me it's common. They told me to take pictures of the car before and after to ensure "the company doesn't try to come after me for something random." Absolutely unbelievable. Title: President's Club Means Nothing at Avis I've been a loyal Avis customer and a President's Club member, but my recent experience was nothing short of abysmal. After raising concerns about a rental issue, I received a canned reply from the airport manager, Mike Elliott, that simply restated Avis' policy without addressing my situation or offering any real resolution. If you're going to ask "How did we do?" at least be prepared to listen and assist in some way. Instead, I was met with a hollow, template response that made it clear that customer loyalty and membership status mean very little here. The message I walked away with: your concerns don't matter, and being part of President's Club carries no real value. A badge without action is meaningless. I returned my vehicle to the Spokane airport full and was still charged $114 for a refill. When I contacted Avis about this Lester Gates apologized and claimed to return the cost as the vehicle was indeed returned full. The charge was never returned to my account, so I reached out to him, and he never responded to my email. I reached out again a week later, and he still has never responded. I have returned cars there twice over the last two months and I was fraudulently charged for fuel during both rentals. I had to work with the local gas stations to get the receipts as well as Avis's corporate office to provide evidence that I fueled up the vehicles to get refunds issued because they don't answer the phone at the location...keep your fuel receipts and confirm all charges. read more

On a recent trip, we arrived in Spokane much earlier than expected as chance passengers well ahead of our scheduled car rental pickup time. OVERCHARGED/TOOK ADVANTAGE/CHARGED FOR ALL OPTIONAL SERVICES WITHOUT DISCUSSING ($122.58 WORTH) A little backstory. I had a reservation for Alamo that I was supposed to pick up when my plane landed at midnight. By the time we got off the plane and picked up our luggage, it was 12:30am. The Alamo people had left already by the time we arrived, despite being assured by a customer service agent that they would wait because my flight info had been attached to my reservation. Because Alamo was not there, my fiance and I had no other choice than to find another rental, as we still had an hour drive to our destination. We got in line for Hertz, but they only had a 12 passenger van, and it was not affordable or practical for just the two of us. So we got in line for Avis/Budget. The young gentleman said he had a car available and proceeded to rush through the intake, telling us it would be $256 (we picked it up at 12:40am on Saturday, 5/10 and would be returning it the NEXT day, Sunday, 5/11), and that there would be a $200 deposit required that would be returned once the car was returned. He said that because they were technically closed when he was helping us, that he would have to charge us an extra day. Fine. Whatever. Not sure this is standard but I didn't have a choice. He then proceeded to rush through the signing of the contract (just telling me to sign each page) without going over anything and without asking me if I wanted any of the additional services (insurance, etc.). Because I had been up for almost 24 hours and it was my first rental ever by myself, I figured I wouldn't be taken advantage of and signed the contract. This was on me, and I will fully admit to this. But not ONCE did he offer any additional services or give me a receipt. When I return the car on Sunday, I had to go to the counter and request a receipt, as I still hadn't gotten one. When I got it, it said that the guy had charged me $122.58 in OPTIONAL products/services that he never, not once, told me or asked me about. He charged me for a loss damage waiver, emergency sickness plan (whatever the hell this is), supplemental liability insurance, and extended roadside assistance. I would have NEVER gotten any of these. My regular insurance would have covered me if I had any issues. I also asked if they did a AAA discount, but he said it only worked if you booked online (not sure if this is true or not, and I haven't verified this). I don't know if this is a regular practice for Avis, but this is ridiculous and absolutely disgusting. It's nice to know that they take advantage of exhausted (and first time) customers/renters who don't have any other options. I will never, ever again, rent from this company. I will pay extra to stay the night at a hotel rather than rent from this company again. I learned my lesson and will make sure I record any conversation I have with a car rental agent in the future. read more

They charge you $10 a gallon for gas!! We were under the assumption that they COULD charge us for a full tank of gas which we took the chance of since we were running late for our flight. Horrible experience and will never rent from Avis again! Our overall experience with this rental was a negative one which had a large impact on the quality of our trip. We travel often and have never had an experience like this! The interior and exterior of the car was not clean, but more so, we were disappointed and concerned with the overall upkeep of this car. The car was in need of an oil change, new tires and new windshield wipers. The lack of air conditioning and the intermittent use of the touch screen made for a very uncomfortable experience, not at all what we had envisioned for our family vacation. We were not able to consistently use the audio tour we purchased. The temps were into the 90's and we were in a black car with our windows down; sometimes at a stand still in traffic while other times we were on a highway and unable to talk to each other. Further frustrations were felt when we spent several hours during our vacation contacting Avis to not receive any reasonable solution. We spoke to several different representatives all of whom told us to drive around to various Avis's to locate a replacement. We were in a very rural area with Avis locations being hours apart. The quality of the car is a poor representation of Avis and the customer support we received was incredibly poor. The Spokane manager offered us a small refund which after several months we still have not received and can't get a response from him or the national chain. read more

Is there a rating lower than 1? There is no trash can when you return your car. I asked about this and they said leave it no big deal. Months later I get a bill for $150 for cleaning out 2 straw wrappers and a napkin. I tell them this is excessive if not a crime. They say, it's not a cleaning fee, it's a punishment because those wrappers reduce our ability to provide world class service to their customers. But to retain your business, we'll reduce to $75. But guess what, they still charged my card a month later for $150. I call and they apologize and are happy to credit me $75. 1 month later still waiting on my credit. They stole $150 from me but I will never rent from this company again. I actually believe what they are doing is criminal, but I have a life to live. Never give these crooks your credit card number. I travel a lot and always rent with Avis because they typically have great service. Spokane is always the exception. I've been given the wrong cars, cars without windshield wiper fluid, cars with very low volume and speed locks, and now a car that won't let me hook up to Car Play. We first arrived at Avis and we didn't notice that we were in the wrong line (Avis Preferred) because the signage in the lane lines is horrific and unable to determine which line you are supposed to be in. We stood behind two Avis Preferred customers and had an Avis Preferred customer behind us. Kimberly was checking customers in without a smile or basically acknowledging anyone's presence. She didn't ask anyone how their day was or how their flight was, no smile, no nothing. Once the two Avis Preferred customers were finished, it was our turn or so I thought. Kimberly asked if we were Avis Preferred (which we weren't) and told us we were in the wrong line. We moved to the other line while Kimberly helped the person behind us (Avis Preferred). Once Kimberly was done helping them, she then asked "I can help who's next." We were the only ones standing there, she told us to move so she knew we existed, and she was extremely curt and rude. She asked for our driver's licenses, told us about the spouse/coworker driving and handed us back our ID's. Didn't say more than three sentences to us the entire time. Gave us the keys and we were on our way. We had a brand new Toyota Camry which was awesome! But I am all about customer service and I would not recommend Avis to anyone. It has now been over a month and I have yet to get my refund on the prepaid rental I booked. I rented a truck from there giving me 450 miles to drive from Spokane airport to Colville in Washington. I drove exactly 205 miles total and was charged from driving 3220. I have spoken with multiple agents all agreeing with me that there is no way I could've driven that amount in the short time I had the vehicle. I didn't even fly that many miles to get to WA from AZ. I am now receiving interest on my cc and getting further behind. I had to cancel the second part of my family vacation and miss out on seeing family that probably won't be around much longer. On May 2, I rented a car from the Spokane airport. A day later in the midst of traveling from Spokane I stopped for a break. Upon looking at the license plate discovered that the car tabs were expired in March 2024. I tried to contact Avis Spokane but ended up getting routed to customer service. Customer service took my information and then I was conveniently disconnected. Upon arriving in Pasco, WA I returned the car to Avis. This is disappointing and unacceptable to me because these things should have been checked prior to renting to me. Furthermore I could have been cited for driving with expired car tabs. A bunch of dishonest employees. I reserved a mini-van and when I arrive to pick it up they say they don't have it anymore. Why go through the effort to reserve it in the first place? I then get a step-down lower-grade car (was charged the same as the mini-van) and was told by the Avis counter person who is a Polynesian lady to bring back the car and I won't have to pay for gas. Guess what, they charged me for gas when I dropped it off, go figure. You call their local number and it is always deferred to their national number. I made a reservation online for a 7 seats vehicle but I went there to get a 5 seats vehicle. Also, I paid online and ended up going to the counter and paid $250 which I did not know about. I called the Avis in town because the Avis at the airport did not answer any of my calls. After reaching out to the Avis in town, they said they have a minivan available and ready for me. I showed up to Avis in the airport at 3pm. No one was at the Avis desk. There was a lady at the budget desk about 30 feet away with her back to the line. I stood there for 5 minutes waiting on someone when she happened to turn around and look towards all of us in line. She nonchalantly Looks over towards us and says oh, I can help you down here. I told her position we had been waiting for the Avis people and she informed us they had gone home as their shift was over...at 3pm?? Odd When she finally gave me the keys to my car I asked what it was. She informed me it was a sedan. As a tall person I don't always fit in the sedans. As a President's club member we typically get a 2 class upgrade as per the benefits of that level of status. I asked her if by chance they had a bigger car. She informed me that I reserved an intermediate size car (per my companies restrictions). and that I was given a full size which is a 2 class upgrade. I asked if Intermediate to full was a 2 class upgrade. She said that the car I was given have less than 20,000 miles so that is considered 1 class upgrade, then up to a full size was the 2nd class upgrade. Um excuse me....a car with less than 20,000 miles is considered an upgrade? Literally one of the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Well Avis GEG you just lost my business. My family's life was put in danger when it started raining and the windshield wipers on the rental vehicle did not work. I had to buy new windshield wipers after driving perilously through the rain, barely able to see the lines on the road. Upon returning the car, I spoke to a customer service agent who said someone would contact me regarding the experience. Nobody ever contacted me, and not only were our lives put at risk, I had to pay out of pocket to repair the vehicle. Made rental reservation a couple weeks in advance for a Camry or similar. Got to airport to pick up. Told no cars available and stuck us with POS Hyundai small SUV. It has over 60K miles and it stinks and its not comfortable.We are on tight time schedule so had to get on the road. No discount offered, only vehicles that we know are not comfortable. This is the first and only negative review I have ever written on a company. I hope it is my last. Nevertheless my simple story is about nothing more than extortion. On Dec. 7, I rented a car from Avis in Hillsboro, Oregon and drove it to Spokane. It was an uneventful trip and I most certainly did not cause any damage whatsoever. The next morning I returned the car to the Avis site at the Spokane International Airport. I was told everything was fine and I was off on my way. In early August, EIGHT MONTHS after the rental, I received a notice that there was "tire damage" on the car and my credit card would be charged. I have no recourse. They are going to debit my credit card $163.91. How can I clear the matter up eight months after the fact? What a bogus claim! What a detestable company. read more

Doesn't even deserve 1 star. Terrible customer service. Paid for a full size sedan, (Camry or similar) that would get 30-35mpg. Was given a Ford Escape with 20mpg. Politely asked for a Camry or Accord, and he rudely said we don't have any, put them key on counter and said take it or leave it. I asked for a manager, and he said no managers are here. I had to go, so I walked out with the key. Upon walking they the parking lot, there were at least 30 Camry/Accords or full size vehicles. Called customer service, and was hung up on twice. My experience at the location and with the personnel was fine- my car checked out in good condition according to Kelly- however- I will never ever rent from Avis ever again. Three and a half weeks later- after my trip was well over- I received a letter from a third party claims dept. that say they are affiliated with Avis for over $600 of damage for a collision that NEVER HAPPENED on my watch. Watch out for Viking Claims- they revealed that the car was inspected a full two days after my contractual relinquishment of the vehicle- TWO DAYS later for their damage report WITH additional mileage recorded on the odometer- so I'm getting stiffed for something that happened AFTER my car was returned? Calls to Avis were pointless as they did not acknowledge the claim number or the company's affiliation with them. Viking was threatening and strong arming with no evidence whatsoever- unless you count the buffoonery of admission to inspecting the car that much after the fact of return with additional mileage and the photo of the bumper that was not even the model of the car I rented. This is GARBAGE. I've submitted this to the fraudulent claims dept of my insurance company. AVIS can go suck it. BEWARE- if they ask you to buy supplemental insurance and you state that your private insurance will cover collision, etc- someone's enterprising business plan is "easy insurance scam". In the course of a 7 day rental from Avis at the Spokane airport we had a couple of minor mechanical issues which were handled promptly and efficiently by Avis representatives both on the phone and along our route. Although it was sometimes hard to get past the robo-operator, every live representative I spoke to was very helpful.
