Although we had 4 car options to pick from (for standard car), it does not feel like you get spoiled with options compared to some other locations. Loyal National Customer, Let Down in Spokane I hate writing this one. I'm an Emerald Club Executive member who travels roughly two weeks a month, and National has earned my loyalty over a lot of trips. That's exactly why this Spokane experience stung. There's no Emerald Lot "pick your car and go" option here. Not a dealbreaker on its own, but that flexibility is a big part of why I choose National. So I went to the desk, got checked in, and was told there were no cars available. I'd have to wait for the manager to call my name. Thirty-five minutes. While I waited, I watched other customers get called, get offered vehicles, and hear the manager, Tony, apologize and offer upgrades. When my name finally came up, I was offered a full-size sedan. I asked about a larger SUV, something I'm used to as an Executive member, and was told I'd booked a mid-size and would be charged more for the upgrade. I explained that hadn't been my experience elsewhere. The response was that the desk gets charged for the different class. I never have been. What bothered me most wasn't the car. It was watching that same accommodation extended to everyone ahead of me and not to me. The delay also made me late to a scheduled meeting. For a loyal customer with choices, that's poor form. Credit where it's due: Tony handled a genuinely unruly, belligerent customer with real composure and defused the situation well. That part was impressive. National, I want to keep choosing you. What the heck is the point of signing up for emerald club and being an executive if there is no priority line and even when you book in advance you get the same experience as if you waiting in a ungodly line for 30-40 minutes just to be put on a waiting list. National car rental at the Spokane airport. You have to walk a-ways to get to the counter, passed the baggage claim and it's all the rental car companies in one- very last counter is National. They do not have emerald aisle so you have to get your keys from an agent. Booked ahead and Went very smoothly and the agent was nice- no one in line so no wait at all. She had me pick between a few cars and went with the Jetta. They'll tell you the space number and you walk out and it's like finding Waldo, but it's relatively easy, can just be a walk. It's near the exit and you head out on your way. Very easy process. read more

As an Executive Emerald Club member, I'm used to passing the check out aisle and going straight to the car. At Spokane Airport, it's not that simple. They were quick and the reservation agent was very friendly and accomodating. He gave me a choice of 2 cars of which I picked the Chevy Equinox knowing what type of vehicle I was getting. This one was quite an upgrade. Much nicer than mine at home. Had all bells & whistles including double sun roof and front camera. Return was easy peasy. I couldn't be more pleased with my National experience. The people at the desk are FAST, friendly and HELPFUL. I've worked with them at least a dozen times and every one of them has been great. Isaiah and Caitlyn this last time especially. The value is excellent, the cars are excellent and even though Spokane doesn't have an Emerald Checkout, it has never taken more than 5 minutes once I get to the counter. If I can give no stars I would. My flight was pushing the closing time and I called several times speaking to different agents to make sure someone would be here to make sure I get my rental. They all confirmed someone would be here "1 hour after 12am to check out a rental for me." My flight gets delayed by an hour and called to make sure again that someone would be here. And again they said an agent will be here to check me out as "they will be watching the flights." I get to the counter at 12:45am and no one is here. I'm left waiting a very long time to get a Lyft at this time of the hour to my hotel that's 30 minutes away. Costed me 41.99! that's a days worth of rental! Thank god for Benjamin still driving late at night or else I'd have to hitch a ride from a stranger. Also, to make matters worse the rep, "Julie" who I spoke with over the phone using the national number laughed during our conversation when I asked her were they just giving me the run around prescripted responses or did they actually cared? Disgustingly unprofessional and offered no solution or accommodation. I frequently travel and utilize car rentals. I had rented as usual from National. After getting vehicle at airport pickup; I received no contract; after dropping off no receipt. When I looked at my credit card- they over charged me by over $250 and ADDED my credit card to someone else's account and cancelled mine. Hence, no contract or bill. I have reached out and there call center employee told me there was nothing they could do as IT WAS MY CREDIT CARD ON THIS OTHER PERSONS' ACOUNT MAKING IT MY CHARGE! WHAT! and a MANAGER would CALL me then hung up on me. I don't have any association with this other person - NONE WHAT SO EVER. I proceeded to call back asked for a manager and was told they couldn't do anything but have another department reach out to me to correct (offices close at 6pm CST based off there website details). So I am in a waiting game with this money being held up on my credit card. This is very disappointing and no immediate remedy. The other person picked up on a different day I wasn't even in the state yet and they extended their car rental. Still trying to figure out how they managed to get my credit card on this other person's account with PCI compliance and laws now stricter than ever on credit cards. They also billed this amount a day after the rental return date. I am deciding if I should truly let them fix it or dispute with my credit card company. read more

I booked a reservation with several weeks notice. I received multiple confirmations that my reservation was ready and waiting. I received an email suggestions I use the app to select my specific car. I get to the desk on Wed night at 11:45 PM local time with my 7 year old son, only to be told no cars are available, and there's no ETA for when one will be available. They offered to put us over to Dollar car rental but told they also may be out of cars, and that I would have to spend the time to go through an all new booking process under their then current rental rates (unknown). Topping it off, I grabbed an Uber to get my Son and I to my hotel and get an email from National "welcoming" me to Spokane and again confirming my car is available. I call the 800# several times. Once get transferred to roadside. Another time got someone who said sorry but offered no solutions other than to go to the airport in the morning, but no assurance there would be a car. Just a horrible experience, especially while traveling with a young child. No one could help, locally or on the phone. No one was empowered to solve the problem and get me a car as RESERVED. read more

I have rented from many National Car rentals in the past but this location was very unprofessional and....did not take great care with my personal data. I haven't rented from here for a couple of years. It am just getting around to this review now. This location keeps credit card data on file without your permission. They are supposed to ask for permission to store your credit card information on file, this one does not. When I found out they were storing information illegally I let them know it was not ok however they did not care and told me it was standard practice. Very upsetting Beware. This franchise seems to run by its own rules. Rent elsewhere. Note to add: at the time this happened I contacted customer service and asked for management and went to their offices extremely upset for the misuse of my credit card and personal information. I was told I was difficult for this. Only after I posted this did I get a response if we are sorry. I was told I was a over reacting and difficult for this theft if my personal information. The facts: 1. On 7/11/18, I placed a reservation with National Car Rental for a full size car for my son and myself. This is my first time to rent from National. 2. When I made reservation, I specifically indicated our flight information as arriving 10:30PM, July 18, into Spokane from Los Angeles. 3. Our flight was delayed 45 minutes, so I CALLED National Rental in Spokane to ensure that we'd have a car when we got there. The lady who answered the phone assured me "we will be open till 12:30am and will have a car for you". 4. Flight arrived into Spokane at 11:25PM, July 18. We proceeded to National Rental counter. 5. The lady at the counter told us that they were "out of cars" and that they would try to ask the other car rental companies if they'd honor our reservation. She explained that the cars they were expecting to be returned were not. 6. They asked the car rental company right next to them, Dollar - I believe - and Dollar said it'd be a $500 one way fee (we were returning to Seattle AND the Dollar person actually first said $300 and then corrected himself, upping it to $500 - who can blame him?). 7. Fortunately, I always have a contingency plan and had a back up reservation with another car rental company. Why? I tried making reservations with other rental companies in Spokane and everyone's website said that they were "sold out". Everyone except for National and another car rental company. At that point, I had a gut feeling that one of these companies was lying. Bottom line: National Car Rental didn't have the car we reserved AND promised by the lady I spoke with 2 hours earlier. It was midnight. The lady at the counter said that she could take my number and have the branch manager call us in the morning to see if they could get us into a car, if some cars were returned by then. Our schedule was a college tour and interview at 9AM that morning and then leaving immediately for Seattle for another tour. There was no room for checking to see if cars were returned. My message to National Car Rental: I'm not sure what your definition of a reservation is, but Webster states that: "it is an arrangement to secure accommodations at a restaurant or hotel, on a boat or plane, etc." Had it not been for my lack of faith in your business practices that caused me to have a contingency plan, our travel schedule would've been jeopardized. Your system gambles with the schedules of your customers. I don't gamble and I don't appreciate companies betting the odds that adversely affect my schedule. If you don't have cars available, don't pretend that you do on your website OR have your staff answering the phone be untruthful to your customers. I suggest your fix your method of determining inventory and be truthful to your customers before your gambling causes harm. read more

DO NOT USE THIS NATIONAL CAR RENTAL!!! This place doesn't deserve any stars but the minimum is one for the review. My flight was delayed due to bad weather and I didn't get in until almost 1 AM. When I got to the counter, nobody was there! Only Hertz and Avis had staff helping their customers. I was informed by those representatives that they knew the flight coming in from SFO was delayed yet the National Car Rental person didn't even bother to wait for me because they close at 12 AM. Who closes at 12 AM at an "International" airport? I have been to dinky regional airport in South Dakota and the rental car person waited for me! The worst part is when I talked to the manager on duty the next day he basically said too bad for you for coming in after our business hours, what kind of customer service is that? read more

You will have to go to the counter to check-in, regardless of your status. This location does not have an aisle. That said, I found the best, personable experience I've had at a national location. I arrived at the counter (May 19th) and was greeted by a friendly, helpful associate. There wasn't anyone in line and I got right through the process quickly. I was given the option of a couple of cars. I chose a brand new Dodge Charger (only 6 miles on the odometer). I went out, found the car in a close stall and was on my way. I returned the car and was greeted by a lot attendant. She quickly processed my info, given a receipt and had a receipt emailed to me. The two reasons I did not give this 5 stars: 1) No Emerald Isle. I like the idea of picking my car. However, I did get a choice, just didn't see the car. 2) Return process is confusing. I was getting ready to pull into a stall when I noticed the attendant checking in cars. Needs to be a clearer way to return vehicle. read more

Emerald Isle would have been nice, but honestly, I don't mind talking to someone at the counter when it all goes well. The car was nice, although it's obvious no one has cleaned the insides of the windows in a very long time. I hate smudges on the windows that make it difficult to see as you drive into the sun. My main problem is that fact that I have left numerous messages with Lost and Found and no one has returned my calls. Seriously? I left a very large item in the back seat and you can't even return my call to tell me you found it, or worse, you accidentally threw it away? How many times do I have to call before you either answer your phone or return my call? I wonder if Budget returns calls? read more

I traveled across the country only to find out they didn't have the child seat I had reserved. I had to leave my family and go buy one at Walmart which was useless to me after my trip. Review for May 8,2015 experience: I want to thank Wayne from National Car Rental from the bottom of my heart. My plane was delayed 3 times and didn't arrive until around 1:45am. I called the front desk and spoke with Wayne to let him know about the delay. He kindly let me know he would stay until I arrived even though it was after closing. Once I arrived, Wayne greeted me with a smile and gave the best customer service. I was so stressed out from all the delays, but he made all the difference. Spokane personnel at your desk was very accommodating when I asked for a small SUV with a WA license plate. Because I was staying at a hotel right across the street from the airport, I returned the car the night before my 5AM flight. Having been an Emerald Elite member since 2000, I must say this is a small inconvenience compared to all the "exactly the way we want it" treatment with which we are accustomed. Review of National: I like National more than any of the competition. The Emerald Aisle bypass is a godsend for folks that travel and rent cars frequently like I do. Very easy to get a car and get out on your way. Review of Spokane facility: The Spokane airport facility is the worst experience I've had with National. The main reason is that it doesn't provide the Emerald Aisle bypass service. I've read lots of complaints about this but it appears the backward, antiquated Spokane culture is preventing National from providing this service. read more
