The employee then offered me a Buick Encore and assured me that it was both a midsize SUV and all-wheel drive. Since I had an eight-day trip ahead of me, I accepted it based on that information. Spoiler alert: it was neither. The Buick Encore is not a midsize SUV, and it was not AWD. After spending eight days in a vehicle that wasn't what I reserved, I mentioned it to the same employee upon returning the car. His response? "Who told you that?" Well... you did. At that point, I was told that reservations are not guaranteed and was handed the billing department's phone number to sort it out myself. The bright spot in this experience was Hertz customer service over the phone. The representative confirmed that I was, in her words, "thoroughly correct" and acknowledged that I had not been given the class of vehicle I reserved. I did receive a small credit, which I appreciated. I understand that inventory changes and substitutions sometimes have to happen. What I don't appreciate is being told I'm getting a midsize AWD SUV when I'm not, especially when I'm about to head out on an eight-day road trip. So, if you reserve a specific class of vehicle at this location, you may want to double-check exactly what you're being handed the keys to before driving away. It is difficult, nearly impossible, to get anyone on the phone. Keys got locked in car and i spent 50 minutes to find out they charge me $75 to get THEIR KEY out of THEIR RENTAL. No way! I went to collect a rental last Saturday and joined a long line of others waiting to rent or return. The man at the counter was extremely rude to a customer who came to return but after waiting almost half an hour he made a video of the return and asked if he could just leave the keys and the gas receipt at the counter. The guy at the counter yelled at him and told him that it was not acceptable practice and he should wait because if any issues does arise, it will be Hertz word against his. The customer however left but the attendant kept saying how Hertz is able to afford better lawyers if a conflict arose. He also was flirting with a lady customer in the line and when it was her turn to be attended to he continued the flirting. I waited another 15 minutes whilst the lady was being attended to and then looked online and found a vehicle available at Enterprise just across the street. They take no responsibility for not having vehicles and offer no assistance when you are there with no means of transportation. Hertz in Detroit is running a SCAM! If you don't buy their insurance, they will "upgrade" you to a car that isn't washed and has damage. Then when you turn it in they contact you a couple weeks later and try to stick you with a repair bill. Happened to me in March and they're trying to get me for $2700. They let the car sit for 3 days before even bothering to document it. Now out of the kindness of their heart they want to settle for $2200. Aren't they sweet. Talk about horrible service, they are the slowest branch I've ever used and their attitude is very bad. Don't remember the guys name but the bearded guy on the right is never with a customer but somehow always busy with something else. When renting the car it took close to an hour with hardly anyone in the office and then dropping off I had to ask them to hurry so I can get out of there so I wouldn't miss my flight. And when asking hertz customer service if there is an airport shuttle they said yes there is because it booked at the wrong location instead of Tampa international, get to the location and was told no we only go 5 mile.... Insurance rented a vehicle for me for 20days. I picked up and had to go to Orlando same day. I told the Asst. Mgr Justin Newman to put insurance for 24 hours only. It took 24 days for my vehicle to be ready and found out when my card was charged $1200+ that he ran me full package for 24 days without my consent. I am not a negative person but was pissed when I went in to talk to him and he completely ignored me. It was until I got on the phone with customer service and had it on speaker phone that he gave customer service his employee number. I've rented a vehicle from this location twice so far. The first time was a great experience. I had rented a Chevy Cruze for 2 weeks. The price was unbeatable and the service was great as well. I loved the Chevy so much that I even considered purchasing one for myself. It was fairly new in awesome condition with most of the bells and whistles like a back up camera etc. My second rental experience was not so great. Initial service when picking up was great. The agent tried to find any discounts that I qualified for. He let me choose between a Hyundai Elantra or Kia Soul. I've owned an Elantra before and had bad experiences with it so I asked for the Soul. It wasn't ready so I had to wait for it to be washed an vacuumed. When I was given the keys, I noticed that the car was banged up everywhere. Just a lot of dings in general but the agent took a lot of pictures and assured me that I wouldn't be responsible for them. The interior of the vehicle was just as beat up. Needless to say I didn't like the car. The front tires skidded a lot and the rear windshield wiper didn't work. I wish I could have physically seen both cars before I decided. When I returned the vehicle today I advised the agent of all of its faults. He didn't seem to care much and just said it was due for an oil change. I'll probably try enterprise next time for a better selection of cars. The car they gave me smelled disgusting like smoke. My clothes all smell like smoke. I tried febreze and an air freshener but it was awful. The second day I had it, I waited on the phone more than 10 minutes to ask to switch it out and they never picked up after the hold. So I drove over. They did exchange the car for something smaller with less features. I got no apology just asked if I filled up the tank. I was told to go fill it up so I don't get charged. read more

We rented from this location and upon receiving the vehicle, it was not cleaned out very well at all. Smelled like food and dog hair was all in the seats. When time to return the vehicle, the door was locked and no employees were there....not even a sign on the door. We called the company to try and locate the employees but have had no luck. From someone who has rented from Enterprise and National quite a few times, I must say that I was disappointed in the service of this Hertz location. I got into an accident and the insurance company notified me that they used Hertz. When I arrived at the shop there was an Enterprise on site, but my reservation was not there. The shop called Hertz and the rep showed up about 15 minutes later to pick me up. When we got to the rental location there were probably about 12 people in there sitting around. There was absolutely no line and the Hertz reps would just ask for "whoever is next". It was really hard to tell who was next as there was no organization what so ever. It ended up taking me about 30 minutes to get helped (no bueno). As someone who works in customer service I would expect a high level of customer service from a business who does all of their work in person. I noticed a lot of eye rolling, "blah" attitudes, and even an employee being somewhat rude to a customer on the phone. The person that picked me up and checked me out was really nice, but it didn't make up for the lack of urgency and the over all attitude of this place. When I got my rental it smelled bad and the brakes made a really loud noise. I don't think I'll be renting from Hertz again in the future. This experience left a bad tast in my mouth. read more

Worst experience ever! Manager is extremely rude and disrespectful. When I had a problem with my rental he created the whole set of some imaginary rules and because of those rules they was charging me for car 2 weeks after I returned with a full tank. And on top of that he decided to charge me $34 dollars for gas when I returned with full gas of tank! He asked me if I have a receipt, I rented a car 2 weeks ago for one day and returned it with full tank, of course I don't keep the receipt! I rented hundred times from hertz (I am a gold member) and NEVER been asked for receipt! And never I was charged for gas when it was full! He was very rude and didn't even try to solve anything! I called their main number and lovely lady immediately reimbursed me for EVERYTHING! And somehow she never heard of his scam "rules" and apologized for this experience. Also just to make the picture full: Car was very (I mean VERY) dirty, but I needed just for half day so I didn't care. "Office" itself is looks so sketchy I wasn't even sure it's a real "Hertz" or some guy just transformed his garage in to "office". Whoever sold them franchise need to reconsider their decision. Places like this (and managers like this) hurting whole brand! Do yourself a favor, never rent from this place!
