Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I booked a car online drove in traffic to go pick it up. They waited until two minutes before I got there so tell me they had no cars and they were too busy to call me prior. There were cars, but apparently they were reserved for other people paying more money. Then I was told I had to spend over an hour on the phone with customer service to get a refund for the car they never had. I did that, and they are still fraud me for a vehicle that I never even used. I was late leaving town because of this whole fiasco. I had to find a car through someone else. Was late to my father in laws funeral. Now we are almost a week later the charge still has not come off my account. I tried calling their manager Riley at their location. He laughed at me and said whatever and hung up on me. This is fraud, and the worst customer service one could possibly experience. I emailed their corporate email to no avail. I was one of two customers there - one was waiting over an hour and a half and I ended up waiting close to an hour ....just to get an email for a car hold release when I had a reservation. Wife was waiting for me - everyone. Will who was helping (if you call it that) needs a new career. On April 3, 2024, I picked up a rental at Hertz Rent-A-Car in Tigard. I received an email about the car I was getting 20 minutes before the pick-up time. When I arrived, I presented my ID and they informed me about the car assigned to me. I inquired about available upgrades, and the representative offered a Nissan Rogue for an additional $10 per day. I mentioned that as a Hertz President's level member, I am entitled to free upgrades. However, she informed me that I needed to input a code during online booking to receive the upgrade. I explained that there was no code provided and upgrades were automatically given based on availability. Despite my explanation, she insisted on the requirement of a code, and I didn't argue further. She informed me that the car was electric and suggested downloading the Presto app. We walked out to the car, and she showed me the charging prongs. I noticed that the car was dirty, but I didn't address it. I returned to the office to inquire about parking, and was directed to park between two businesses due to limited space. On Thursday, I had a food delivery and noticed a lot of long white pet hair in the car when I folded down the seats. Concerned about the hair contaminating the food, I placed a blanket down. When I returned home, I discovered pet hair on the blanket and disposed of it. The next morning, I called and spoke to Autumn to report the issue. She suggested returning the car for a replacement, but I explained that I had an appointment and couldn't go to Portland that day. I informed her I might be able to return the car the following day as I had to go to Portland anyway, but I wanted to avoid the Hertz location in Salem due to a previous negative experience. Later, when I needed to charge the car in Portland, I encountered difficulties with the charging station and the app. A representative from the car rental lot came to assist me and forcibly unlocked the nozzle. Despite my efforts, the charging still didn't work properly, and it took significant time before I successfully started the charging process. However, the charging station was closed, so I had to drive to my house with low battery. I found another charging place, but it wasn't initially visible on the app. Worried about the car's charge, I decided not to leave it overnight, as I needed to use it in the morning. Unfortunately, the car's charge depleted, and I had to pull over at a gas station. I called roadside assistance, who quoted a $180 charge, but I opted to contact AAA, which charged $150. The car was towed to another lot, where I struggled to use the charging station despite watching instructional videos. Eventually, I managed to charge the car, but it projected a full charge by Saturday morning. Realizing there were different charging options, I regretted not having the faster charging option. Despite the charging, the car's range was only 18 miles when I turned it on, causing further stress. Due to time constraints, I couldn't remain at the charging station all night. The next day, I returned to the charging station in the morning and encountered difficulties again, as I wasn't familiar with the different types of chargers. After finally charging the car, I realized I would be cutting it close to returning the car to Enterprise by 12 PM. I attempted to call Enterprise to inform them, but the number provided indicated that the business was closed. I drove to the airport and exchanged the car there. Upon inspection, I noticed that the replacement car was not very clean and still had dirt and some pet hair. This reinforced my belief that the cars were not thoroughly cleaned. On Monday, I contacted Autumn again to inquire about my parked car in a different lot. She assured me that as long as I was conducting business with them, it wouldn't be towed. When I arrived to return the car, a gentleman who owned a business in that space approached me and expressed his intention to tow my car. I apologized for parking there and explained that I had been instructed to do so. I then entered the office and requested to speak to the manager, only to find out that Autumn was in charge. I explained the parking issue to her and informed her about my previous call regarding the potential towing. She didn't seem to remember the conversation and seemed indifferent to the situation. I brought up the pet hair issue, but she appeared unaware of it and had a smirk on her face. I mentioned being charged for an upgrade and explained the difficulties I faced with charging the car and the expenses incurred for towing. She questioned why I didn't ask more questions, despite my lack of knowledge and experience with electric cars. Lastly, I reminded her that she had suggested returning the car on Saturday, even though the office was closed. Reserved a full size sedan a month ago. Called 2 days before the rental date and was told it was all set. Arrived at the rental time to an empty, locked office. A half hour later the agent arrived and said the only thing he had was a pick up truck. That was it. He told me they hadn't had a sedan in weeks. We waited several minutes until I was actually honking the horn in the car I dropped my husband off in. We reserved an economy car, but all they had was a large truck. I'm not sure WHY the ability to reserve something they don't have exists but what can you do? At least they only charged us for an economy, as I feel they should have. I seriously cannot believe how terrible the customer service is here. My boyfriend had a reservation made at noon today (5/28/16) to pick up a rental for a very important trip for schooling that he spent so much time and money on to make happen and when we showed up to get the car the place was closed with a woman named Wendy at the desk. She opened the door for my boyfriend and said there was nothing she could do about his reservation because they shut the computer down when they are closed and cannot turn them back on. That's some serious bull. He begged her to turn them back on and she refused and said sorry there's nothing I can do went back inside and locked the door. Are you freaking kidding me? You can't turn the computers back on? Isn't it 2016? Or are your computers old and from the 90s? I cannot believe this. Wish I'd checked Yelp first I reserved the economy class car based on the amount of driving I intend to do while I have the car, (well over a thousand miles) so fuel economy was a big factor. Until I made my first short trip (about 200 miles) I failed to notice that the car doesn't have cruise control. I went back to Hertz, explained how disappointed I was that they would even have a car without cruise control in their inventory to begin with, and asked how it could be resolved. I was told that the only option was to upgrade to a different class of car. So, more money for the rental, and more money spent for fuel for the duration of the rental. Very disappointing, will definitely be looking elsewhere for rentals in the future. Also, the car's exterior was absolutely filthy, to the point that checking the car for pre-existing scratches/damage was very time consuming. After reading other reviews for this location, I changed this from 1 star to 2 stars just based on them having a car for me. Looks like some people didn't even get that lucky. read more

I rarely leave reviews (3rd time) but this was garbage. I did my due diligence and verified that I would be picked up upon dropping of my company car for repairs. The customer service operator said, "I'm sorry your reservations are for another day. . . we ( he should have said I" need to figure how to fix this." Not a big deal, except they didn't even call other enterprises in the area until I got there, they also didn't call me to let me know they weren't ready. This was one of my worst experiences working with Hertz. I was in a crunch because I realized that I needed a van to help transport items and people for my wedding. I did my due diligence and did some research on rates and ended up booking through CarRentals.com, which apparently was my first mistake. CarRentals.com allowed me to find this location which had the cheapest rate for my three day rental (from Thursday to Sunday). To get this deal I had to prepay for the whole thing. I went in to pick up the car-- no problem. In fact they saw that I pre-paid, said that the car was due back to them on Sunday. They brought up the deposit that would be returned to me unless there were damages, etc. No mention about them being closed on Sunday and how if I returned my car by the scheduled time they would charge me for the whole next day at a full rate! My rate was $45/day and they charged me an extra $98 for turning in my rental on time simply because their office was closed. I called twice to discuss this. The first time the employee put me on hold about five times while trying to find my name, then said he would have a supervisor call me back by the end of the day. This was on Friday. I called back on Wednesday because no one bothered to call me back. The explanation I got was the most asinine thing I have heard from a refutable company. I was basically told that my mistake was booking on a third party site because if I would have booked through Hertz it would have told me about the charge. They basically said sorry that NONE of their employees decided to mention this fact. The lady also had the gall to tell me I should have returned the car on Saturday before they closed to avoid this fee despite paying through Sunday! What pisses me off the most is that they charged me for a full day that I already paid for and basically said screw you for booking on a third party website. If I would have not been screwed over by Hertz I would have likely rented straight from them in the future. But after this experience I think I will stick with other more forthcoming rental companies. Enjoy your $98 dollars for a car that you were able to rent out the same day. Completed my business in 1 day and returned the vehicle back to the airport I rented at. They said since it was for business that they had to charge me for all four days. Really? Well I made an appointment to drop my car at a body shop & then confirmed with Hertz when & where I would need to be picked up. I drop my car off & tell the body shop manager Hertz is coming. State Farm uses them. No clue why. Anyway the body shop guy starts going off about how awful Hertz is & says he better call for me & make sure they are on the way. I got a call from Hertz on the morning of my trip. They told me the van that I had rented more than three weeks earlier was on its way up from Eugene and would be an hour late. OK, annoying, but not bad if it wasn't any later than that. I was traveling up to Seattle that day and wanted to get started early enough to beat their rush hour. The van arrived in the window they gave me and they turned it over to me quickly. Perhaps too quickly. They told me as I walked to the van that the low pressure light was on but they had filled up the tires and assured me everything was fine. They said the light would go out after a couple of miles. We were all packed up so I drove home, loaded up the family (5 people total) and our stuff and headed to Seattle. We got all the way there just fine, although the low pressure light never went off. I just assumed that the gauge was faulty since Hertz told me they had checked everything out. However, a couple nights later the valet desk at the hotel called me to tell me the tire was flat. I called Hertz for assistance and they offered to send someone out to put the spare on for $80. They said the charge would "probably" be refunded at the desk. Rather than counting on Hertz' promise I called AAA. Hertz did not recommend driving back to Portland on the spare so I had to swap vehicles. Naturally the only thing open late Saturday night was at SeaTac. I called Hertz back to arrange the exchange, and at first the second guy I talked to told me that the SeaTac location was closed. This after the first lady told me it was a 24 hour location. I asked him how that was possible since the first rep told me it was a 24 hour location, so he called them back. He told me they had 19 vehicles of a similar class available. I tried to reach their office directly but just got a flurry of automated menus. So after AAA put the spare on (thanks AAA!) I drove to SeaTac, hoping that they actually had vans available. I got there around midnight to find a short line, amazingly. Chris, the guy behind the desk, was patient as he tried to find me a new vehicle. I wound up having to pay to upgrade to a similar class vehicle in order to accommodate all the people and stuff in my party. I chose not to argue with Chris about that and he sent me on my way. Upon returning to this Tigard location they 1) didn't offer any accommodation for the risk they put my family in, only offering a half-hearted apology. 2) they were going to charge me for the gas, even though they originally told me bringing the vehicle back with 1/3 tank was fine (I wound up driving down the street and filling it up to save over $90 in exorbitant gas fees), 3) they charged me for the upgrade for all 4 nights rather than just the time I had the new vehicle. I had to bring this up after reviewing the bill and get them to refund me the extra charge. In short: terrible service (other than Chris at SeaTac), no concern for their drivers safety, no sense of personal pride or accomplishment, and terrible vehicles. We had a great experience with our Hertz rental. There were no issues with the car or reservations, but what makes this a 5 star review is the customer service. The pick up location closes at 6pm. We were stuck in traffic and weren't going to make it in time so we called the store to let them know we were on our way. We didn't arrive until 6:30pm. Luckily, we saw a Hertz employee, Florian Aarts, in the parking lot on his way out. He very kindly re-opened the store so we can pick up our car. Hands down the worst rental company AND corresponding location in the history of car rentals. I had a rental that was covered through my insurance company. I used two cars over the course of three weeks. They ALWAYS say they will call and never do. They never called to confirm my car was in and never called to tell me my replacement was in. It was like babysitting a bunch of kindergarteners. I had to almost grab their hand and force them to do a walk thru to assess any previous damage from other drivers before taking possession of both cars. The whole thing just seemed shady from start to finish. You would expect this from a cut rate regional car rental company, but not a national chain. When I rented the second one the contract stated the retail daily fare which was $30 higher than the rate the insurance company receives. At the time I was told not to worry about it and it would be corrected. When I turned it in I got the same story. They said they would call when the bill finalizes before it charges so I can approve it. Long story short, they never called and I saw a charge for $270 more than what should have been charged. I called them and they said they corrected it and the refund would be processed. When I asked for a receipt showing the updated charge I was told that, since the rental was closed, there was no receipt to print and they couldn't even do a screen shot. At this point I am still waiting for my $270.00 and couldn't be more dissatisfied. I travel a lot and use plenty of rental cars. Because of this experience I will NEVER use Hertz again and will be sure to tell my story to whoever will listen. This company is broken. The employees don't care about anything or anyone. If the world is burning and this Hertz location on 99 is the only rental company left on the planet and this location is the only one that rents cars, I would just walk. It's just not worth the hassle. Two months later I still don't have my refund. The local office said it has been soooo long that they don't have a record for my rental and gave me an 800 number. The people at this number were condescending and rude and I called them twice hoping I would get someone less rude. They refused to look at the details and told me to call State Farm. State Farm laughed and said they have no idea why they had me call them. When I called Hertz the second time she just said "hang on" in mid-sentence, put me on hold and transferred me to another person, the State Farm liaison. She actually pulled up the contracts they whey the other people should have and was finally able to correct the situation, I THINK. I haven't seen the refund yet so this will be updated again. I rent cars on a regular basis and decided to use Hertz since they had a great rate for the time frame I needed a vehicle. Picking-up the car took approximately 45 minutes, and I was late for work. Vehicles were not ready to be rented and my car was filthy on the outside, but I didn't have time to wait longer for cleaning. Seems like agents are trying their best, but the company is not supportive. Rented thru Hertz because that is the company my car insurance choose after my recent car accident. Arrived to pick up my car via Lift. Car was ready, no inspection. I assessed the car and noted damage to rear bumper and side panels, they said i didnt need to fill out paperwork. Strange, so i took pictures. The car was dirty, also very strange. I have rented from this Hertz location on many occasions over the years and have been pleased with their service each time. On this occasion I needed a rental for two weeks while my car was in the shop. The car was clean and ready when I arrived. Just before I was to return the car, I needed to extend the rental for a few days. They were very accommodating and extended the rental. Expensive insurance rate for 1 week rentals, needs a better location and better parking

This was second time rented a loaners car from this location. I had a good experience last time so I decided to use them this time when I needed to take my car repair. I have made reservations to be able to pick up a rental car at the Auto body shop when I drop my car. The person took my reservation was very professional and nice. However, I was very disappointed the worker from the Hertz did not bring my car and told me I have to go to the office to rent a car and do paperwork there. When he showed up it was almost 50 minute after my appointment time. He was explaining that if the office is busy or not enough employees they can't have two people leave office to deliver the car to the customer and no apologize about the situation. I wish they told me about it ahead of time. I had to cancel my clients because of this. The person who picked me up, we were having conversations, when he was driving took his phone out of his pocket and he started showing me some pictures on his phone while he was driving. That is very wrong. It was around 12:30 pm when finaly I was able to get a car and left the Hertz. I wasted my two hours just rent a car. Even my car insurance company recommends to rent a car from Hertz, I will chose enterprise next time. ( My auto repair shop people told me it happens this kind of situation often with Hertz. The staff was very rude and short with me. The website told me I could return the car at 3pm Saturday, but turns out they aren't open then, and that I could drop off the keys in the box but will be charged for an extra day, as well as a late fee. When I asked about this over the phone, the woman confirmed that the website booking does not actually correspond to their rules and procedures. I was obviously upset by this and the woman on the phone hung up on me after repeatedly telling me "that's just how it is". We called back, and she told me to look at my contract, which I did... but there was nothing in there about it, and then she told me not to call again... Reading all the reviews, I was surprised that my experience was a positive one. I was in a tight spot and needed a car to return home to California. Hertz had the best prices without drop-off fees. I reserved the car the previous night, got to Hertz and was heading home in about 20 min. Sales associate was professional and warmed up during the process. After renting a car I noticed a couple days later there was damage to the front passenger side rim, then a few days later the low tire pressure light comes on. I brought the car back because I didn't want to keep servicing the vehicle, and explained that I didn't damage the car. Long story short, I was liable for the damage because it wasn't noticed during inspection. However, I then requested that they do a previous damage check because I knew somebody at Hertz must have noticed this previously. After a couple calls they verified with a mechanic that the damage already existed. The guys at the counter told me the car should never have been allowed to be rented before being fixed. If you ever end up in this situation make sure to ask them to check for previous damage, I don't think this evidence would have surfaced if I didn't press them. read more

Made a reservation 2/3 weeks prior to my trip I showed up on time the staff was clearly miss managed! A lady and her daughter walk in without a reservation and get a car and walk out the door here I am a hour later still with no car.... I'm a little frustrated to say the least! They say that they don't have enough cars for all there reservation. No manager or PIC around the 2 employees here keep asking each other how to do things. I don't blame the employees I DO blame the management! Talk about leaving your staff out to hang!! Not happy! read more

Called 3 times let it ring 6-8times nobody picked up. Checked online open til 1pm on Saturday. Drove to store as my rental's air pressure light continues to go on and off and I wanted to switch out my car for an intermediate size. Get to store at 12:15 people are locking up; hand written sign on door be back in 15minutes. And Saturday hours on door have been changed to closed at 12. I asked the guy what to do about the tire pressure light he said "there is a meineke right behind you they can help you out." And then turned around and walked away. Horrible customer service! It is a good thing the insurance company is paying for my rental car. I will never personally rent a car from Hertz again. read more

The car and price were great. Unfortunately the customer service is what is pulling my rating lower. I dealt with the same gentleman at the counter on three separate occasions. He was never friendly and while he did answer questions they were often not helpful or left you tending towards frustrated with no resolution. read more
