I walked in at 10:30 PM, well before closing at midnight, and was seated by a hostess. I then sat for 20 minutes without anyone acknowledging me--not even a simple offer of water. No server ever came by, so I ended up getting up and leaving without a word from anyone. The space itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, the experience was completely overshadowed by the lack of service. It's a shame such a nice place is brought down by poor hospitality. read more

We planned a proposal with Kevin the front desk manager. He was phenomenal! He helped us make sure the day went smoothly. From the food set up to the proposal set up on the rooftop. The communication and commitment was by far the best we've ever encountered. There was a set food menu and each one of those dishes were great. The arugula salad had a lot of flavor and was a pretty large portion. The sushi platter was enough for each person and tasted very fresh. The scallops with the gold foil was the best one in my opinion! They had wagyu meatballs and wagyu tacos that was juicey and had plenty of spice. Then topped off with cod which was surprisingly not fishy. Salmon was a little fishy but the sauce helped out a lot. And the filet mignon was just amazing. This is an upscale restaurant with a wonderful view of Charlotte. For drink I ordered the Tropic Sanda and my husband ordered the Smoked Budda. Cool presentation for drinks. For food we ordered oxtail potstickers, the Hestia Roll, Miso Black Cod, and A5 Miyazaki Sirloin. The ox tail potstickers was just ok. I do like the citrus twist but I like ox tail for its fatty taste and it wasn't there, the shell was a bit dry as well. The beef on the Hestia roll are good quality beef...what one should expect for Wagyu, I like the beef to be sear a little more, but my husband like it. The miso black cod smell a bit fishy when they put it down but the fish tasted really fresh and buttery, but the the other ingredients that goes with it is very bland, carrot and rice didn't taste like much, except for the braised green. It was very salty! The flavor was very lacking in this dish. They need to add some sweet sauce to the dish to give it more depth in flavor. Caramelize the carrot of something. Luckily we had some ginger from the sushi so I ate it with that and it tasted much better. The $65 A5 Miyazaki Sirloin was very tender, you can definitely tell a difference in the quality of the meat but to me it still needed something to make it top notch. The sweet potato chips are nice, but the smashed potatoes and broccoli is just didn't give this dish the wow factor I was looking for. They put rosemary on top for decoration but didn't really cook the herb to blend it into the dish. Service was good, when I told the waitress I was hot they turned on the fan and blasted some air mist that cool down the place immediately. 5 of us went there to celebrate Father's Day. The restaurant location is good if you know where to look, its inside a hotel on its top floor. Nice ambiance and fantastic view from the outside seating. But it was too warm to sit outside even with the constant misting, and the numerous burning fireplace/fire pit didn't help. Wagyu meatballs - All have grilled/burnt marks on them, so needless to say it's the driest meatballs I have ever tasted, which is difficult to achieve given its Wagyu. Oxtail potsickers - the meat insides lacks in flavor and they're kind of dry as well Spider Deluxe roll - it's good, but can't distinguish the softshell crab from the snow crab since they are all chopped up to crumbles size. Miso Black Cod - This dish is good but I had it much better somewhere else. Black cod is a buttery fish, hard to mess it up, but the fish did smell a hint of fishyness indicating it's not at its best, but it didn't tasted fishy, and the kale, carrots and red rice all compliment the fish well. Wagyu Fried Rice - Its topped with the volcano/hurricane egg, but the scrambled egg tasted bland by itself. The riced is cooked with minced Wagyu beef and its a bit soggy. It does have lots of beefy flavor even it's hard to find the tiny pieces of beef in it. 6oz Tri Tip Wagyu - They brought the sliced raw meat in a beautiful cow shape stand, before cooking it on a hot stone plate. However one slice of the beef I had was so chewy and full of tendons that I had to use the knife to cut out all the tough stuff and fat before I could swallow it. Service - Asked our waitress to bring lemon or lime for my water, but she never did. Since the water glasses are small, we had to constantly ask the staff to fill our empty glasses. Wouldn't mind as much if the 20% tips were not automatically added to the bill. It's a nice place to go if want to impress someone with your big wallet. Personally not impressed with its mediocre food and service regardless it's price point. read more

We visited the other night for a friends birthday dinner. The restaurant was easy to locate and you do have to access an elevator to go up to it. The host were friendly as well as the overall customer service. We did get there prior to the entire party. It was a Saturday night so we went to the bar for a drink. It was pretty busy so I would recommend more staff behind the bar. However the drinks were pretty good and we did ask for recommendations from the bartender. The only one I wouldn't recommend is the margarita it just wasn't that good in my opinion. I would also maybe invest in a qr menu for the bar it would make things a lot smoothly for both parties. For food we started with pot stickers, I would give them a 7/8. They do have a spice to them and it was like semi steam fried if that makes sense. My entree I got the wagyu fried rice- highly recommend this was a great dish! Only thing is that it doesn't have as much meat in it and a massive egg. But the flavor was phenomenal! The prices are pretty high in my opinion however I felt it was a given for the area and type of food it was. Our server was great!! When it comes to the roof top this is the area that needs the most attention. I'm in an industry of attention to detail and it just didn't match at all. The tables are to on top of each other to be a roof top. People come here for this reason and they want to take photos. Your prime locations for photos are full of tables so that's not great. Also the floor is unbelievable out there. It looks like it was just slabbed down and that was it. Not secured in any way i don't know how that even past code. I am only giving this place 2/5 because I'm not allowed to rate 1.5 stars. We were very disappointed with how high of expectations we had. My brother got a cocktail and it just smelled like sewage water and a lot of those who received any type of fish entree smelled like the fish had been left out-one of my cousins had a very upset stomach after dinner. Me and my significant other ordered the bone marrow, hestia roll, petite filet mignon, and a5 wagyu sandwich. The bone marrow was probably the best thing we had all night and it was our appetizer. Hestia roll was okay. Nothing special and not worth $25. Petite filet mignon-I requested for medium but instead received medium-well steak so it was dry and again, nothing special about it. A5 wagyu sandwich wasn't even a sandwich. It was 4 pieces of steak on thin bread and not worth $50 in my opinion. Drinks were sour more than anything and didn't have much of a balance. Everyone at our party kept saying how sour their drinks were. I ordered the HORNETS' NEST IN JALISCO and my sig o ordered the Matcha Cooler. To get to the restrooms, you had to enter through another door and gave hospital vibes which wasn't anything bad but me and another guest had to wait to use the restroom because 2/3 stalls were occupied and the other stall did not have toilet paper. Luckily, I asked my s/o to grab some from the men's restroom for the both of us. I think it's unacceptable for a high $ amount restaurant to not keep up with their restrooms, especially for everyone paying so much and it being a hassle to get a reservation at this place. Ambiance was beautiful. The view of Ballantyne was great as well as being able to see the skyline. Lots of people outside on the rooftop though so it was hard to maneuver around and even get a picture. Overall, our large party of 18 decided that we were content we tried out this new Ballantyne rooftop restaurant and all very excited for it, but know that we will not be coming back. Through all of the reviews and pictures of food, this restaurant is not worth coming to again especially for its inconsistency. There are better rooftop restaurants/restaurants in Charlotte that serve better food with this price point. read more

Last weekend I asked some neighbors to come try this place with me. I read the reviews before I came on how expensive it was but thought to myself. Couldn't be that expensive, it's ballantyne. I wish I looked at the menu before I made the reservation. It was more expensive then Chicago or NYC. But you would think the quality of food would be outstanding at that price. Unfortunately it was not. You can get better sushi at Mr tokyo. The service too was pretty slow. We had apps and entrees. Took us 2.5 hours to have our meal. I was thoroughly disappointed with the food quality in relation to the prices demanded. Ordered a sushi roll with shrimp tempura and eel which was just not good. Overwhelmingly fishy in a bad way. Also had short rib potstickers which I thought were a bit dry. I did like the spicy edamame a lot, and the drinks were all original and good. I had also ordered a sweet potato dessert, which was very good. The view from the balcony was very nice, and the dining room was very presentable and upscale. Spent 48 hours and Charlotte and I'm glad hestia was on our itinerary. My CLT guide was excited to take us to this new rooftop restaurant. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. We sat outdoors but it was a bit too windy for us and we moved inside. It was a busy Saturday evening drink service was a little slow with only 3 bartenders working but the manager was so welcoming and accommodating, it made up for everything. I ordered a sushi roll. 10/10 The French fries were perfect. The meatballs were so juicy and flavorful. Our server was very attentive even though we had a large group. The only complaint I have is the "wagyu" taco. It was more like carne asada than wagyu. And the hard shell is off putting. Other than that, hestia was amazing. We will be returning. read more

When our server (Christine T) came up she not only asked if we had any dietary restrictions, but she knew what vegan means and then proceeded to show me on the menu my options. This is not something I experience often which is why it's such a big deal to me! (Normally in restaurants, I have to explain what Vegan means and I still end up with butter or cheese added and have to send it back). Both genuinely passionate about the food they serve. Talking through the menu was a pleasure and each of their respective recommendations were spot on. They made what would've already been an exceptional experience uniquely exceptional. Perfect really. Highly recommend the Yakiniku hot stone wagyu trio. The sashimi chef tasting was best in class. The matcha pancakes and chicken and biscuits were good. But the wagyu burger was terrible. First they forgot the egg. Then when they brought it back out the burger was cold. I ordered it medium but I don't know why they even asked. The burger wasn't burger it was more like over cooked meat scraps on a bun. When I explained to the waitress that it was not something I was going to eat, instead of just apologizing she got defensive and started telling me that I didn't know what wagyu beef was. Ultimately, she took it off the bill but it was definitely unprofessional. The coffee was good but served lukewarm. Also, they charged $17 for a single mimosa.
