Even though my rating for their spot in Costa Mesa doesn't necessarily reflect it, of all of the many places we've discovered so far across our adventures around OC, Heybings is definitely one of my favorites. It may be a little bold to say, as we have eaten so many tasty things thus far, but it's in no small part because I've yet to find a bingsoo spot as good as them in the Bay Area! Not to mention the fact that the warm weather down gives me that much more of a reason (read: excuse) to keep coming back! Compared to the one in Costa Mesa, this Heybings is seems to be a bit smaller and the parking situation here isn't quite as easy (the parking lot has a lower level, but it can still fill up during peak hours). However, for whatever reason, this one feels a bit warmer and brighter (and just as cozy). As for the menu, it has all of the same delicious treats to offer - a terrific collection of their signature bingsoo flavors, including both their classic and seasonal offerings, mochi and liege waffles, coffees, and specialty lattes and drinks. The one thing I don't recall seeing listed that I remember from before is matcha, but I can't say I was looking for it either. -- MELON LIME BREEZE - Honeydew Base, Fresh Melons, Lime Zest, Condensed Milk, and Vanilla Ice Cream This is one of their specialty flavors that they rotate in, but they need to make this one of their regulars because it is SO GOOD! Between the melon base and fruit, plus the lime zest, this tasted so refreshing. Plus, I LOVED the creaminess from the vanilla ice cream. DELICIOUS! -- MANGO PARADISE - Milk Base, Housemade Mango Puree, Fresh Mango, Coconut Flakes, Condensed Milk, and Vanilla Ice Cream Not as amazing as the Melon Lime Breeze, but no less delicious. The taste of mango in this was really strong and, combined with the vanilla ice cream, condensed milk, and coconut flakes, kind of reminded me of Mango Sticky Rice (without the rice). -- MATCHA STRAWBERRY - Matcha Base, Housemade Strawberry Puree, Fresh Strawberries, Condensed Milk, and Matcha Ice Cream You could argue this is a little "basic", but there's a reason why this is a classic sort of combination. The Strawberries and the puree weren't overly sweet and balanced nicely with the taste of the matcha (flavorful with just a slight bit of that earthy flavor). Beyond the bingsoo, the other awesome thing about this place has been the service. While I do think it's a little better at their location in Costa Mesa, the workers have always been friendly and get orders out fairly quickly. Really, the only "knock" is that they don't come around to clear off tales as fast, which can be problematic when seating gets scarce (mostly at nights and on weekends). Of course, it would be nice if customers bussed their own trays/dishes when they're done and brought it to the little window/shelf at the back, but that's not exactly something that can be (nor should be) relied on either. Considering how much I've enjoyed our visits to this location just as much as their spot in Costa Mesa and how I rounded that down from the same FOUR AND A HALF STARS, it seems only fair that I round up for this one. Previously tried Heybings in Costa Mesa and decided to stop by the Irvine location after having lunch nearby. I love a good bingsu and Heybings does not disappoint. Ordered the Large Mango Paradise ($14.50), Single Strawberry Delight ($8.50), and Single Black Sesame ($8.75). All three were super refreshing and came with a generous amount of toppings. I honestly couldn't pick a favorite because they were all delicious, especially on a warm summer afternoon. The bingsu was light, refreshing, and perfect for sharing. Disposable paper cups and utensils are available by the register for self-service, which is convenient if you're sharing your bingsu. There is parking directly in front of the restaurant shared with the other businesses but it does tend to fill up. Underground parking is also available and is shaded. The milkiness mixed with the subtle lime and melon is so good. We ordered at the front with the worker or there's also a kiosk by the door to order with. I don't like other shaved ice places that use just plain ice and then add syrup on top. Easy parking. There are a few group tables and bar seats, but the shop itself is fairly small, so it gets stuffy and uncomfortable during busy hours.Ordering at the register was simple. The matcha bingsoo was good, with a generous amount of matcha syrup, mochi, and red beans. I appreciated the stronger tea flavor, which balanced the sweetness well. The jasmine green grape bingsoo was refreshing with a nice tanginess. My only small complaint is that the outside of the paper cups gets extremely sticky and messy. I wish they prepared them a bit more neatly so the eating experience felt cleaner, especially for those who are particular about cleanliness. They have a minimalist design on the inside with limited seating, and the chairs that they do have are very uncomfortable. Strawberry cheesecake ($9) - This consisted of some shaved ice, strawberries, a few pieces of cheesecake, and a small scoop of ice cream on top. To me it didn't feel like things went well together. I had much better shaved ice in Hawaii and the few cheesecake pieces in the dessert were a little light and airy. Red bean mochi waffle ($8.50) - The waffles seemed soft and soggy with some read beans in the mix. Cappuccino - $4.75 - It was a smooth tasting cappuccino but didn't have the rich and complex coffee flavors one finds at Italian coffee spots. I came here during lunch time around 12:30pm-ish. I've been meaning to try this place for a year now since I work 2 minutes away. They have a plethora of options on the menu from *ceremonial grade* (very important) matcha, fruity refreshers, caffeinated drinks, black sesame drinks and mochi related items. They are known for their shaved ice options with fruit! I wanted to try their classic Injeolmi but when I came, they were still making some ingredient in it that wasn't going to be ready for like 5 to 10 minutes. I was in a rush to get back to work so I didn't wanna wait that long. Instead, I got the ube mochi waffle. it was quite delicious! I could definitely taste the high-quality ingredients. The service was pretty quick & there was only me and three other people. The interior was very modern and clean. Parking can be a little challenging especially at night. Service was extremely slow but I would like to say that they were most likely understaffed when i went. Always a plus that they let me bring my dog in, there's a self ordering kiosk as well inside. It was quite busy when we went so there was limited indoor seating but there were also a few tables outside. It was very nice and clean inside as well. The dessert was good and I thought the nutella mochi was chewy and crunchy at the same time. The oreo bingsu has additional crunch inside which I thought stood out compared to other bingsu places where it's just the top. Cute little dessert shop. We were greeted at the door. I've had their shaved ice before and shared with a friend as it enough for both of us. This time I tried their sesame milk tea. It peaked my Interest as I rarely see that on a Menu and it was a sold out item. It was more milk than black sesame so if I order again I'd probably ask for less sweet and less milk just because I want more sesame flavors. My new favorite dessert place! Love Heybings! We stumbled upon this place after eating at the Persian/Mexican restaurant next door. They are on the pricey side for dessert but soooooo good. The bingsoo has the right amount of sweetness, not overbearing and feels somewhat light. My kids love the cookies and cream. They love the marshmallows on top. My personal favorite is the mango. We also had to try the mochi waffles. In the family, everyone had their own personal favorite. I liked the cheese one and the ube waffles the best. The sesame peanut was interesting and worth a try. The nutella is a classic. Service was great. The people creating the desserts do a great job at presenting instagram-worthy bowls of deliciousness. My sister and I tried Heybings' new location in Irvine. We've been to the Costa Mesa location and we loved their desserts and we're excited that another location opened up. We tried their matcha cloud. It was fun to eat. It comes with cereal and matcha ice cream. Their ice was super smooth and "not too sweet." Next time we want to try their matcha romance which comes with red bean and mochi. Of course when you get bingsu, you have to try their waffles. We tried their black sesame one and it paired well with our dessert. I personally like the Nutella one better. They have indoor seating but you can also do take out. Heybings is located in a strip mall with ample above ground and underground parking. I was warmly greeted by the staff when I entered and I really liked the modern decor of the place. My friend and I shared the Mango ice and the Matcha Strawberry. Even the small size is a good portion already. The mango ice had good flavor but the ice is plain ice so make sure you mix the syrup well so you don't run out of syrup fast like we did. Matcha Strawberry is matcha ice topped with strawberries and syrup and the ice is a lot more flavorful because it is matcha ice. I really liked the matcha which had a hint of bitterness like real matcha and the sweet strawberry syrup was a good compliment to the bitterness. There is a private parking lot and an underground parking garage for the plaza. Upon entering I saw a completely renovated interior with whimsical modern touches. There are a few small tables with nearby outlets, and there is wifi. We were immediately greeted and welcomed. Staff was all friendly and energetic. My little mentee ordered an iced Matcha Latte ($6) and I ordered an iced Ube Latte ($6). We also shared a Strawberry Cheesecake ($9/single) shaved ice and a Nutella Mochi Waffle ($8.75). Pricing was definitely on the higher side across the board relative to the portions. They were pretty quick since we came before it got busy. We got a really comfortable seat and people were definitely trying to vulture out spot when we were leaving. Both the shaved ice and the waffle were tasty but I don't think they were worth the price tag. It should have been double that portion for that price. The drinks were better priced, and made with quality ingredients. Overall a cute dessert shop with limited seating and on the pricey side. During my 2 visits, to date, I've ordered singles of their Mango Paradise ($8.75) and Classic Injeolmi ($8); while attractive in presentation, I expected (and hoped for) more ingredients/flavors throughout the ice, not just on top (hubby's desserts appeared to include more ingredients within his ice than mine). Based on many reviews, I ordered the Classic Injeolmi; while I enjoy the texture of the rice cakes, I found it bland overall. Yes, parking is limited on street level, but underground parking is available, with easy access (elevator or stairs) to the shops. It tastes like a matcha latte with some mix-ins so if that's your thing then this will be right up your alley. I love matcha so I tried their matcha latte but I feel like it lacked a bit of sweetener and that's coming from someone who doesn't love stuff that's too sweet. They use good quality matcha though which I could taste and tell from the vibrancy. I love that they whisk it to order. The injeolmi latte was also a hit but it would be even better with espresso, which I definitely recommend you pay $1 for if you order it. Stumbled across this spot after a running event. We did arrive before they opened on the weekend but the staff was definitely friendly and welcoming when they finally got everything step up. Inside had multiple different tables and seats for a few small parties. Relatively clean and had a modern take of most trendy dessert/tea places. We ordered two different types of their bingsoos (Melon Lime Breeze and Mango Paradise) small sizes for both since we wanted to try their different options. The melon lime bingsoo had melon flavor mixed in the snow which was a nice highlight as opposed to the mango bingsoo that had more of a mango puree drizzled on top. Both were refreshing but the melon lime had a little more kick to it which I enjoyed. Also the icecream on top paired well with the snow. Parking wasn't an issue on a weekend. Though could be a little more busier when the other restaurants open for lunch and dinner. read more
