Solid breakfast. You walk up and order and then you can sit outside where there are a bunch of tables that are shared by a group of restaurants. They bring it to you. The coffee was pretty good and you get a refill. The menu has some cool, interesting, reasonably priced items on the menu with a Hawaiian twist. There are also a lot of sweet pancakes and French toast.

Got the island chilaquiles and it was a solid 10/10. So flavorful! The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. Lots of inside and outside seating. Also the macadamia nut coffee was so yummy.

I love how smokey the Kahlua pulled pork Eggs Benedict is. My wife loved that the entree sized Spam Fried Rice had a generous amount of diced spam in it. She got it with eggs over easy and then chopped them up and mixed them in.

This is what I love about traveling! Finding spots like this! I know I'm in SoCal, but this took me back to hawaii. The kalbi and eggs were great. The kalbi marinade wasn't too strong for bfast. Was really good. The Ube pancakes were so good. Just like I had in hawaii! Service was really friendly and the experience overall was great. I know this is a chain but wow I'll be back.

Came in around 9 and the restaurant was not super busy which was nice but then around 10 it picked up but the nice thing about this location is plentiful seating areas, indoors and outdoors. Today is a beautiful sunny day and it was a great idea to sit outdoors to enjoy our Cali weather along with great food. We ordered loco moco Putin, light bites I believe my plate was called (two eggs, two protein and either pancakes, french toast or waffle) ube pancakes, kids cheese omelette which btw you can order as an adult too(thank you) and a spam musubi dynamite, two coffees and a smoothie .Let me just tell u that the spam musubi was a great surprise the sayc was a bit spicy, I would say the perfect amount because I'm usually a cry baby with spicy food. My order was perfectly cooked, I ordered the French toast which were cooked thoroughly which I usually don't get at other places. The bacon was nice and crispy, and the sausage link was delicious. The ube pancakes are my kids favorite! The loco moco putin was delicious ,fries were crispy but beware it comes with pico de gallo I'm guessing as a garnish but it was a bit overdone, I didn't see it on the ingredients but now that you've been warned either take it and love it or ask for less or none. Our coffees were strong and they give you the choice of getting it in a mug or a cup to go, we got a mug for drinking it there but as we left we asked for a refill in a cup to go which was nice. The smoothie was refreshing and sweet( ordered a mango guava smoothie) the ladies at the front desk were very nice and welcoming, greeting everyone that walked in the door. The place was spotless I did notice a lady cleaning up right away as guests left. When we were done with our meals another server picked up our plates and asked how everything was. Thank you ladies and this is definitely a great spot to stop by for breakfast/lunch when going to the beach .

My family affectionately call this joint BabyStacks. Food is always good all the way around. The waffle and French toast do not need any syrup. Who needs dead calories anyways! Just The Soft shell crab omelette was lightly flavored. It actually is a veggie omelette with a fried soft shell crab on top. It can get very busy in here especially on the weekends but the servers keep churning out the island love. When it comes to ambience big things can come in simple packages. I leave with more than I expect. Love is in the food. I would consider this a soul food.

you'd like pickup or dine there! There were lots of seating outside and it was a nice corner area. We ordered the Kalua pork Benedict and pancakes. The Benedict was really delicious! It was slightly salty in some parts but overall was such a delicious meal. Would love the potatoes to be crispier. They also had some really interesting items I'd lov

Always an amazing breakfast place! I love the pancakes, but they are usually very big and I cannot finish them. It takes around 10ish minutes for the food to arrive, which is fast in my opinion. Definitely recommend this breakfast place!!

Best kept secret! I just learned that the Stacks' kid menu is also for those "not so hungry " - you can get French toast, waffle or pancake with bacon or sausage and an egg for just $9!! Such a deal! The cashiers are consistently cheerful as is their food at this casual breakfast place w a Hawaiian vibe. (Tator tots were $5 and super crispy and delicious.)

food was super great and i would come back for brunch again. line was long and service was a bit slow, but not bad at all. the outside sitting area was super cute, but the inside is definitely crowded

We stopped by here after church for some breakfast. Wow! We absolutely loved it! My husband loves trying new places and loves spam. This was a perfect little place to go. It gets REALLY busy, so you want to try to come before the crowd hits or after. It's small but there is some outdoor seating as well. Would highly recommend giving this place a try! So yummy!

Chicken Katsu Curry with Fried Egg
    Dustin P.

Stopped by Stacks in Newport and ordered the Kalua Pork Eggs Benedict and the Chicken Katsu Curry with a fried egg. The portions were solid and everything looked great coming out, but a few things missed the mark. The Kalua pork was flavorful and tender, but the eggs were overcooked, not the runny poached eggs you expect from a proper Benedict. They also barely used any hollandaise, which made the dish feel dry. The potatoes on the side were soggy and lacked that crisp texture you hope for. On the flip side, the chicken katsu curry was the better of the two dishes. Overall, the meal was just okay. Could be a great brunch spot with better execution and a little more attention to detail.

    Chicken katsu Loco Moco
    Hannah M.

this is a great Hawaiian inspired brunch spot in the OC. to my knowledge, not much like it here! it's a casual setting where you order then sit at our table, but they're very quick with food. we went with our family and everyone loved what they got. some have even been back a few times. I got the chicken katsu loco moco. I enjoyed how there were multiple loco moco options. the chicken katsu was fried well. the gravy was a little bland and light in my opinion, could have used possibly some soy sauce or something else to make it a little more flavorful. my husband got the musubi and the katsu curry, both which he liked. they had some interesting specials like ribeye chilaquiles and omurice and prime rib loco moco, wish I could try those all too!

Decided to drive down to Newport for the day, wound up browsing the shops at Fashion Island, and…read morethen wound up having lunch at Great Maple, one of the better, sit-down restaurants at the center. It's a bright and airy venue, with thick, clubby stools at the bar and a dual, indoor/outdoor dining area that's just right for the coastal California locale. We arrived near the end of the lunch rush, so we were quickly seated by the friendly Hostess, though there were still plenty of folks eating, and a lively buzz was still thrumming through the room. It was just the right energy for a Saturday lunch. Our server, Darren, was a hoot, with a slight shimmy to his step and personality for days -- sometimes that can be a bit much, but in this case his charisma added a much appreciated charm to the meal. While we didn't imbibe at this sitting, they do have a full bar with a nice selection of cocktails suitable for brunch or dinner, and it's easy to imagine whiling away quite a few hours here at another opportunity. The menu offers a number of clever twists on brunch and lunch mainstays, especially house-made doughnuts and a few Benedicts that push all the buttons of "well, this is something appealingly different." That said, we were just tad boring today as diners, ordering a Burger and the house BLT. We may have made some ordinary-sounding decisions, but Great Maple's versions of these favorites were far from ordinary at all. The burger is made with high quality beef that has just the right amount of fat to make it juicy while retaining the integrity of the flavor of the meat. Cheese, veggies and a fresh brioche bun rounded out the presentation, as did a perfectly achieved pink medium rare. This was a very good, very satisfying burger served with crispy, shoestring fries that really hit the spot. The BLT is built on Levain sourdough that is thick-cut and lightly toasted, and holds up nicely against the moisture in the tomatoes and bright, leafy lettuce. Aioli had a noticeable but mild, and very enjoyable, garlic accent that played really well with everything, walking the line between "spread" and "dressing," and becoming a meaningful component of the sandwich rather than being just an adornment. But the star of the sandwich was the smoky bacon, cut thick enough to retain a pleasing chew while also boasting the kind of char and crisp that make for the most enjoyable bacon on a sandwich. Really, this was a terrific BLT, far above what you normally get, and, as I said before, not anywhere near as ordinary as you may think. So, a very good lunch at Great Maple, and very good reason to plan another visit very soon. Kudos to everyone.

My personal highlights were the Prime Skirt Steak, Chilean Seabass, and The Shorebird, especially the risotto that came with it. Everything tasted high quality and well prepared. We found street parking directly in front, which was free after 6 pm. There's also an underground lot where Shorebird validates two hours of parking. I had never eaten at this restaurant, but had always wanted to so today seemed like the perfect day to do so. Parking is definitely a little bit limited. I can imagine when it gets busy that it's tough to find parking, but I got here early enough in the morning so I was able to find it. If I'm being completely honest, the inside feels like an upscale IHOP. With a modern twist. The booths are nice and comfy, and the syrups are on full display much like IHOP. Wait staff was friendly and attentive, so I ordered the steak Skillet which came with a 7 oz steak, two eggs, potatoes with peppers, mushrooms and cheese, as well as half a biscuit and two buttermilk pancakes. I was very impressed with the steak, I'll be it a little bit tough, it was still a good size steak and very tasty. The skillet potatoes were amazing and the pancakes were very good. My only complaint about the service was I had to ask for my milk two times. Again, it wasn't that busy to wear. It would be easy to forget, but I will slide them some gray so, give them four stars instead of three. Bottom line? The food was delicious. I would definitely come here again. We arrived around 9 a.m. The parking situation was great, with plenty of spaces, and although the restaurant seemed busy, there were open tables and we were seated right away. From there, the service was confusing and inattentive. The first server came to take our drink order. When my sister asked about lattes, she said they had them but couldn't show us where they were on the menu--and didn't make any effort to find out. We asked for a few more minutes, and then she didn't return for quite a while. Even when she came back, no one offered or brought water for the table or the kids. We tried to give her our food order, but she explained that she only handled drinks and that we had to wait for another server. It took a while for the food server to come over, and then the food also took a long time to arrive. The latte was extremely sweet and not enjoyable. To their credit, they were nice about replacing it with brewed coffee and removed the latte from the bill, although we were charged for the brewed coffee. The food itself was mediocre at best. We ordered one children's meal with sausage and another with bacon, but both initially arrived with bacon. The bacon was very tough. They did correct the mistake and bring out the sausage when we asked. The sunny-side-up eggs were barely cooked, and the pancakes were just okay. My sister's meat-lovers omelet was especially disappointing. It wasn't soft or fluffy--it looked more like a thin egg crepe wrapped around pieces of ham, sausage, and bacon. We also had to specifically ask before we finally received water. For the prices--around $25 per person--we expected much better quality and more attentive service. We spend about the same at places like the Original Pancake House and receive much better food and service. The staff were accommodating when we asked them to correct the sausage and replace the latte, which we appreciated. However, the overall quality of the food, the long waits, and the disorganized service made the experience not worth the price. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.
