Tldr yummy and off to a good start! The only thing I knew about this place was that the Chinese stores had a Genshin Collab and that the fruit teas were good. I was pretty curious and finally had a chance to try! Luckily I managed to make it in time for the BOGO and ended up getting 4 drinks: Green lemon breeze: nice balance of tea and lemon flavor. Half sweet is the way to go! If youre going to leave it until the next day though remember to take out the lemon slices otherwise it gets really bitter Coco matcha jasmine: a really nice balance between matcha and jasmine. I could taste both! The matcha cream is definitely dairy though. ~~ I forgot to finish this review and it's been a while (and maybe 4 more visits) since my first visit but the drinks are still solid! The tea flavor is really tasty and this is one place I would definitely revisit for the plain tea. I do think the drinks are on the sweeter side so would recommend minimum sweetness. read more

The Mulberry Strawberry Boom is delicious and refreshing. The flavor was strong and there were lots mulberry chunks. The only thing was that the paper straw looked really gross from the mulberry stains. Perhaps with a drink like that, a bamboo straw would be better. The Grapefruit Mango boom and the Coconut Mango Boom is very fruity and thick. They don't skimp on the yummy parts. The Matcha Bobo Shake has a strong matcha flavor. If you've ever had a Vietnamese avocado smoothie, it is thick and creamy like that. Overall, the drinks great. This is probably 4 star by Chinese standard and 5 star by Bay Area standard. Having tried hey tea many times in china, I would say that this store is pretty legit. Hey tea is famous for its use of fresh milk, fruits and other ingredients, as well as loose leaf tea, rather than milk/tea powders, which makes a huge difference to me. That's why I kept going there. I was so thrilled to find out that they come to bay in such an efficient manner! First the drink, matcha jasmine latte - I've been craving for matcha my whole life. TBH, this is probably one of the best matcha creamed drinks in the bay. Most of the matcha drinks here has drinks + matcha powder casually sprayed on top, rather than matcha creamed tops made with whipped creams . I think heytea actually uses matcha cheese top, yet it's better than 90% matcha stores. What I really liked is that they offer extra matcha cream for free, and I went home and made another matcha drink myself using the leftover creams, lol. Grape crisp cloud - tastes legit, not too sweet, hint of cheese but not too overwhelming. Other things I like - 1. You can have separate cream/cheese top in a box, this is important for to go drinks, where when you got home and open the bag, the cheese/creams are not melted into the drink itself. 2. They have online app or WeChat mini program to order ahead or even look at the menu, they even tell you how busy the store is or if the online order is closed due to being too busy. 3. They packaged the drinks nicely in bags for pick up. 4. They have nice seating area and waiting area. Things I think could be improved: 1. Self-order kiosk is broken on the day that I went. 2. This place is located next the Gen KBBQ. It is in a very popular plaza during dining hours so beware of parking. The hype is still going on for this place during certain hours. You may expect up to a 40 minute wait after putting your order in. You can try the app but I hear their backend crashed during my visit. Once you enter there may be a functional kiosk to order from with pictures. I'd opt for that as there's some options that you may not be aware of and may be free. Otherwise, if it's in service mode or is out of paper, you can order from the cashier. Their cashier will try to recommend things but their menu is pretty minimalist in regards to options available. You get a number and can watch the workers scan a qr code on a machine that measures the sugar and syrup associated with your option. I also witnessed one of the workers drop a cup with their qr label into what looks like to be boba. They fetched the cup, peeled off the label, and reapplied it to a new cup whole tossing the old. The label still has the boba residual and contaminated another cup since they are stacked within one another. Also, the boba container was re-used after the cup was fished out. Not sure how that would go in terms of food and safety . While you wait, you have the option to stand inside to avoid the cold or wait outside. There is a screen with numbers showing when you can pick up but no one is shouting it out so you'll need to pay attention. Anyways, I got the matcha cloud latte with extra (free matcha). It's one of the few places where I can actually taste the matcha. With adjusted sweetness and ice, it was just right for my taste pallette. Was it worth the 40 minute wait? Not really. I would come again if the wait is more typical of boba shops. 3/5. Would give it a 4/5 if there was less waiting and I didn't witness some questionable practice with the label accident. read more

I ordered an extra hot oat milk brown sugar boba and was startled when it was handed to me in a plastic cup! I was expecting a paper cup. It was so hot it nearly scalded my hand on my way back to my car, and I rushed home to dump it into another container. I feel generally uncomfortable about hot liquids in plastic, and the cup was starting to warp so I'm not sure it was heat-resistant plastic. The boba is fine but I think you can find better for 7.50. I liked how they didn't upcharge for the oat milk, but the base price is so high I guess they didn't need to. I don't think I'll be ordering that drink again. Drinks were great! I've had Heytea in China and Hong Kong before and the taste is exactly the same. The boba milk tea is really creamy and reminds me of cereal, I am not a huge fan because the milk outshines the tea. But the star is their jasmine tea- its DELICIOUS I recommend it. We also ordered the bobo shake but it didnt look that great since it was a frozen drink. Matcha jasmine also tasted good. Surprisingly I am able to drink their milk without any issues (I'm lactose intolerant) so they might be using lactose-free milk for all drinks Service was quick and I love the tv screen that shows order numbers and how long the wait time is. The wait time is usually longer than how long it actually takes which is nice. The store is nice and bright but some of the seats already look dingy even though they recently opened. Great boba addition to the area even though this area most likely has almost a dozen in a few mile radius now. Went for one of the bogo 50% off and while we were quoted an hour-an hour and a half wait it went much faster as we got our drinks and left within 30-40 minutes of starting to wait. The BOGO free days were much longer lines and I don't think I would have wanted to wait in those lines. Matcha Bobo Shake 4/5 - I got a 70% Ice and that was because I originally forgot that it was a shake so I was glad that it still kept a decent shake texture. Half sugar was also a very decent choice pairing well with the matcha flavor that is kind of difficult to do well. Bobo/boba in a shake was not as great however probably due to the coldness of the shake. Bobo Milk Tea 3.5/5 - This one might be a bit unfair since I decided to leave it in the fridge overnight so there is less weighting here. But overall at 30% sugar it was almost perfect in terms of sweetness. Bobo/boba was pretty hard(due to being in the fridge so again... not judging too harshly on this). Service 5/5 - They have someone outside handing out menus during long lines which is nice. The two at the cashiers are also very quick at taking your order which helps speed up the line as well. Ambiance ? - Kind of way too busy when I came to judge on ambiance but otherwise very minimalistic and overall it is kind of a small store front. Parking 4/5 - Plaza with many big foodie names (Boiling Pot/Gen/Kura/Jeonju) as well as 99 Ranch so parking can be annoying sometimes, but I've never had to circle more than once to find a spot. Final Thoughts: 4.53/5 New boba spot number X and yes, the hype has brought us here. The lines are out the door (likely related to the deals happening for their opening) and long wait times are present. Their menu appears quite small, but I believe that might just be the layout they have. There are more items on there that are simply listed and not pictured, so just a note because I almost missed some of them. Drink: Crisp Grape Boom, 30% Sweetness: 4.6/5 Grape is a flavor that's used in some shops and I can't say that any of them have impressed me since the flavor from the syrup is really artificial without anything to back it up. Interestingly enough, this drink has a pretty nice flavor. While I still think there's syrup or an extract included, the drink includes real grapes muddled at the bottom that brings out the natural flavor. It's a pretty prominent flavor in this drink even for a fruit like that, so I personally liked it. The grapes at the bottom also add a texture component, as well. There's slight crispy from the skins of the grape and the larger pieces. Sweetness level was ideal. I usually go for a lighter sweetness level and this was the right amount for me. Hmm I couldn't really get hints of the tea though, which is interesting. There's no taste of bitterness from the tea. Not complaining too much, but just an observation. Mulberry Strawberry Boom: 4.5/5 Definitely a fruit girl and different fruits always entice me. The actual fruit is used inside the drink, so the flavor comes out really nicely. It seems to also be muddled at the bottom, so you get the whole fruit when you take sips. Taste and texture of the fruit itself is almost identical to a blackberry. This combined with the strawberry flavor worked really well. The flavor of the tea was overpowered by the fruits in this drink too though. Again, no bitterness or hints of that flavor here. Matcha Bobo Shake (Not picture): 4.3/5 Matcha taste is quite good (this comes from a person that seemingly doesn't have a palate for high quality matcha though, so it is up to your discretion). Personally, I would have preferred a stronger matcha flavor, but overall, it comes through nicely. Flavor of the milk was also really nice. Never been one to love milk myself, but the flavor of the milk worked well with this drink. I can't explain the flavor, but no complaints about it. Consistency wise, it's quite thick for being only 70% ice. I understand that it is a shake, but the mouthfeel still feels very icy versus being smooth. Not a big concern though. Boba wise, texture is a little bit harder than I would like and this was to be expected in a drink like this. Aesthetics: Icy Looking at the drinks, they somewhat look like a half melted shaved ice in a cup. It's kind of interesting that all of them were really icy like that. This probably explains why these drinks are quite low in calories, as well. They are presented with nice colors though, which is appealing to me for these drinks. --------- Quality: Optimal There is quite a long description stated on their receipts and honestly, they didn't have to sell me on that because their flavors speak pretty well themselves. I appreciate the flavor of the matcha, teas, and real fruits inside of the drinks. Natural is usually my way to go, so needless to say, I believe their quality is optimal. Price: Fair to expensive About $6 to $8 per drink with some outliers being $4 and $10 per drink. This seems like a fair price to me? When I first looked at the prices, they were somewhat expensive, but I believe with the quality that is provided, their pricing is fair. Service: Optimal For the long line, they were kind of fast? Sort of? With the long line, our stated wait time was 1 hour, but we were able to order our drinks and get them within about 30 minutes. Not ideal in the freezing cold, but I feel like it was worth it. They cashiers were also really nice and welcoming. I observed one worked standing there and explaining some of the drinks/options to another customer. These gestures are always appreciated. Ambiance: Simple Super simple interior. White all around - It's very bright and just very simple. One bar table lines the wall where the door is and then there are a few smaller seats perpendicular to that. Can't I love the layout because people are just clumped together and waiting for their drinks in the empty space. Definitely not ideal if you wanted a picture here. Location/Parking: Fair to optimal Location appears quite ideal because it's right next to Gen and in a plaza with other food places and restaurants. 99 Ranch Market is here within the same plaza and Costco is just across the street, so a bit of traffic happens within the area. Parking wise, fair to ideal. Yes, the lot is quite large, but when it is crowded, it is crowded. Especially during the rush hours, you might have to go a few rounds before finding a spot. We went on opening day and the wait was almost 2 hours, so if you don't like to wait for your bona, I would suggest giving it a couple of months before going. Parking was also insanely hard since it is in a plaza with a couple of other popular restaurants and grocery places. The drink itself is good and on par with the already existing stores in New York. I think their fruit drinks are what excels more. Usually, when it is not as packed, the inside of the store smells amazing - very fresh and fragrant tea (I would love to know what room spray or fragrance they are using). Finally tried HeyTea! HeyTea has been opening up many locations around the Bay Area and I was really excited to finally try it! The wait for the kiosk to order the drink didn't take that long and there was also an option to order with the QR code. The wait for your drink is where it takes a long time. My friend and I waited maybe over 30 minutes. We actually went to Ranch 99 and even Kura sushi. When we were done with dinner, our drinks were ready! We got the matcha drinks. I love their tall cups with the twist lid and I LOVE their cute bottle for the kale tea. Every drink I have tried here is delicious, but I especially love their kale tea. It is the perfect balance of fruity, vegetable, tea, and sweet. It tastes fragrant but not too bitter nor too sweet. I also like that you can order on a kiosk or you could opt to order with the employee, who are very nice and do quick work. I've been seeing Heytea on social media of friends and family that visit China. I was happy that there was a location in SoCal when I was visiting. When I tried it, I immediately understood the hype. I was sooo excited that this San Jose location opened. I went on the third day of opening. The line was super long but moved relatively quick. Staff were helpful with answering questions and handing out cups of water while we waited. Upon entering the store, the pleasant smell of tea and jasmine let's you know that you're one step closer to your drink lol If you're into syrupy milk tea/teas with a bunch of topping choices, I don't think this is the place for that. The teas are very tea-forward. The fruit drinks have real fruit chunks. The quality speaks for itself :) We ordered the Mango Coconut Boom and the Supreme Brown Sugar Bobo Milk Tea. I really enjoyed the Mango Coconut Boom drink. Normally other places' mango drinks taste like artificial mango or are too acidic, but I didn't have any issues here! I got it at 70% sweet, and it was almost perfect. I think 50% would have been perfect for me but that wasn't an option. In the SoCal location, I tried a matcha drink and the matcha was strong! This is located right next to a Kura sushi & Gen bbq, perfect for an before or after meal treat. When I walked into the store, I smelled the fragrant smell of jasmine tea which was a good sign. I got the Cloud Crisp Grape, and while it was good I didn't feel like it was worth the high price point (when did boba get this expensive?). However, I tried my friend's hot Matcha Jasmine and that was really good, this is the drink I'll be getting again.
